A Higgs category for the cluster variety of triples of flags
The cluster variety of triples of flags (associated with a split simple Lie group of Dynkin type Delta) plays a key role in higher Teichmuller theory as developed by Fock-Goncharov, Jiarui Fei, Ian Le, ... and Goncharov-Shen. We refer to it as the basic triangle associated with Delta. In this paper, for simply laced Delta, we construct and study a Higgs category (in the sense of Yilin Wu) which we expect to categorify the basic triangle. This category is a certain exact dg category (in the sense of Xiaofa Chen) which is Frobenius and stably 2-Calabi-Yau. We show that it has indeed the expected cyclic group symmetry and that its derived category has the expected braid group symmetry. A key ingredient in our construction is a conjecture by Merlin Christ, whose proof occupies most of this paper. The proof is based on a new description of the Higgs category in terms of Gorenstein projective dg modules. Our techniques are in the spirit of Orlov in his work on triangulated categories of graded B-branes.
Ramsey numbers of digraphs with local edge structure
One of the classical topics in graph Ramsey theory is the study of which $n$-vertex graphs have Ramsey numbers that are linear in $n$. In this paper, we consider this problem in the context of directed graphs. The oriented Ramsey number of a digraph $G$ is the smallest integer $N$ such that every $N$-vertex tournament contains a copy of $G$. We prove that every bounded-degree acyclic digraph with a ``local edge structure'' has a linear oriented Ramsey number.
More precisely, we say that a digraph $G$ has graded bandwidth $w$ if its vertices can be partitioned into sets $V_1, \dots, V_H$ such that all edges $uv \in E(G)$ with $u \in V_i$ and $v \in V_j$ satisfy $1 \leq j - i \leq w$. We prove that $\vec{r}(G) \leq 3^{57Δw} |V(G)|$ for any acyclic $G$ with graded bandwidth $w$ and maximum degree $Δ$.
This provides a common generalization of several prior results, including on digraphs of bounded height, of digraphs of bounded bandwidth, and blowups of bounded-degree oriented trees. This notion also captures a wide variety of natural digraphs, such as oriented grids and hypercubes.
The Ungar Games on Graded Posets

For a poset $P$, an Ungar move sends $P$ to $P\setminus T$, where $T$ is some subset of maximal elements of $P$. With these Ungar moves, Defant, Kravitz, and Williams define the Ungar games, where two players alternate making nontrivial Ungar moves until one player cannot make a move and loses. We characterize the second-player wins on graded posets. We first prove recursive characterizations of second-player wins before using these results to give classifications of the second-player wins in terms of boolean circuits. We also generalize Defant, Kravitz, and Williams' work on Young's Lattice $J(\mathbb{N}^2)$ to the higher-dimensional $J(\mathbb{N}^d)$.
Big Varchenko-Gelfand rings and orbit harmonics
Let $\mathscr{M}$ be a conditional oriented matroid. We define a graded algebra $\widehat{\mathscr{VG}}_\mathscr{M}$ with vector space dimension given by the number of covectors in $\mathscr{M}$ which admits a distinguished filtration indexed by the poset $\mathscr{L}(\mathscr{M})$ of flats of $\mathscr{M}$. The subquotients of this filtration are isomorphic to graded Varchenko-Gelfand rings of contractions of $\mathscr{M}$, so we call $\widehat{\mathscr{VG}}_\mathscr{M}$ the {\em graded big Varchenko-Gelfand ring of $\mathscr{M}$.} We describe a no broken circuit type basis of $\widehat{\mathscr{VG}}_\mathscr{M}$ and study its equivariant structure under the action of $\mathrm{Aut}(\mathscr{M})$. Our key technique is the orbit harmonics deformation which encodes $\widehat{\mathscr{VG}}_\mathscr{M}$ (as well as the classical Varchenko-Gelfand ring) in terms of a locus of points.

We give two new constructions of the harmonic algebra of a lattice polytope $P$, a bigraded algebra whose character is the $q$-Ehrhart series of $P$ defined by Reiner and Rhoades. First, we show that the harmonic algebra is the associated graded algebra of the semigroup algebra of $P$ with respect to a certain natural filtration, clarifying it's relationship with the more classical semigroup algebra. We then give a geometric interpretation of the harmonic algebra as a quotient of the ring of global sections of a certain family of line bundles on the blowup of the toric variety associated to $P$ at a generic point. Using this connection to toric geometry we resolve one the main conjectures of Reiner and Rhoades by showing that the harmonic algebra is not finitely generated in general.
Random-projector quantum diagnostics of Ramsey numbers and a prime-factor heuristic for $R(5,5)=45$

We introduce a statistical framework for estimating Ramsey numbers by embedding two-color Ramsey instances into a $Z_2 \times Z_2$-graded Majorana algebra. This approach replaces brute-force enumeration with two randomized spectral diagnostics applied to operators of a given dimension d associated with Ramsey numbers: a linear projector $P_{lin}$ and an exponential map $P_{exp}(α)$, suitable for both classical and quantum computation. In the diagonal case, both diagnostics identify R(5,5) at n=45. The quantum realizations act on a reduced module and therefore require only five data qubits plus a few ancillas via block-encoding/qubitization for R(5,5)=45, in stark contrast to the $\binom{n}{2} \approx 10^3$ logical qubits demanded by direct edge encodings. We also provide few-qubit estimates for R(6,6) and R(7,7), and propose a simple "prime-sequence" consistency heuristic that connects R(5,5)=45 to constrained diagonal growth. Our method echoes Erdős's probabilistic paradigm, emphasizing randomized arguments rather than explicit colorings, and parallels the classical coin-flip approach to Ramsey bounds. Finally, we discuss potential applications of this framework to machine learning with a limited number of qubits.
Complexity and recurrence in infinite words and related structures

We study the asymptotics and fine-scale behavior of quantitative combinatorial measures of infinite words and related dynamical and algebraic structures.
We construct infinite recurrent words $w$ whose complexity functions $p_w(n)$ are arbitrarily close to linear, but whose discrete derivatives are not bounded from above by $p_w(n)/n$. Moreover, we construct words of polynomially bounded complexity whose discrete derivatives exceed $p_w(n)/n^\varepsilon$ infinitely often, for every given $\varepsilon>0$. These provide negative answers in a strong sense to an open question of Cassaigne from 1997, showing that his theorem on words of linear complexity is best possible.
Next, we characterize, up to a linear multiplicative error, the complexity functions of strictly ergodic subshifts, showing that every non-decreasing, submultiplicative function arises in this setting. This gives the first `industrial' construction of strictly ergodic subshifts of prescribed subexponential complexity.
We then investigate quantitative recurrence in uniformly recurrent words and, as an application, address a question of Bavula from 2006 related to holonomic inequalities on the spectrum of possible filter dimensions of simple associative algebras: we construct simple algebras of prescribed filter dimension in $[1,\infty)$ and essentially settling the problem entirely in the graded case. Throughout, we construct uniformly recurrent words of linear complexity and with arbitrary polynomial recurrence growth.
Chow polynomials of simplicial posets with positive $h$-vector are real-rooted
We prove that a finite graded simplicial poset with a top element added has real-rooted Chow and augmented Chow polynomials whenever it has a positive $h$-vector. This class of posets include Cohen-Macaulay simplicial posets and in particular lattices of flats of uniform matroids.
Stanley-Reisner ideals with linear powers
Let $S = K[x_1, \dots, x_n]$ be the standard graded polynomial ring over a field $K$. In this paper, we address and completely solve two fundamental open questions in Commutative Algebra:
(i) For which degrees $d$, does there exist a uniform combinatorial characterization of all squarefree monomial ideals in $S$ having $d$-linear resolutions?
(ii) For which degrees $d$, does having a linear resolution coincide with having linear powers for all squarefree monomial ideals of $S$ generated in degree $d$?
Let $\mathcal{I}_{n,d}(K)$ denote the class of squarefree monomial ideals of $S$ having a $d$-linear resolution. Our main result establishes the equivalence of the following conditions:
(a) Any squarefree monomial ideal $I$ in $S$ generated in degree $d$ has a linear resolution, if and only if, $I$ has linear powers.
(b) $\mathcal{I}_{n,d}(K)$ is independent of the base field $K$.
(c) $d\in\{0,1,2,n{-}2,n{-}1,n\}$.
In each of these degrees, we show that a squarefree monomial ideal has a linear resolution if and only if all of its powers admit linear quotients, and we combinatorially classify such ideals. In contrast, for each degree $3\le d\le n{-}3$, we construct fully-supported squarefree monomial ideals $I$ and $J$ in $S$ generated in degree $d$ such that the linear resolution property of $I$ depends on the choice of the base field, $J$ has a linear resolution and $J^2$ does not have a linear resolution.
A plethystic chain rule
We consider a derivation $\mathsf{D}$ on the ring $Λ$ of symmetric functions and investigate its combinatorial, algebraic and geometric properties. More precisely, we show that $\mathsf{D}$ restricts to a quasi-isometry, with respect to the Hall product, on the graded component of $Λ$ of each positive degree and provide a chain-rule formula with respect to the plethysm operation. Furthermore, we relate the geometry of the Schur functions supporting $\mathsf{D}(f)$, where $f\in Λ$ is an homogeneous symmetric function, to that of $f$.
Fuss--Catalan algebras on generalized Dyck paths via non-crossing partitions
We study the Fuss--Catalan algebras, which are generalizations of the Temperley--Lieb algebra and act on generalized Dyck paths, through non-crossing partitions. First, the Temperley--Lieb algebra is defined on non-crossing partitions, and a bijection between a Dyck path and a non-crossing partition is shown to be compatible with the Temperley--Lieb algebra on Dyck paths, or equivalently chord diagrams. We show that the Kreweras endomorphism on non-crossing partitions is equivalent to the rotation of chord diagrams under the bijection. Secondly, by considering an increasing $r$-chain in the graded lattice of non-crossing partitions, we define the Fuss--Catalan algebras on increasing $r$-chains. Through a bijection between an increasing $r$-chain and a generalized Dyck path, one naturally obtains the Fuss--Catalan algebra on generalized Dyck paths. As generalizations of the Fuss--Catalan algebra, we introduce the one- and two-boundary Fuss--Catalan algebras. Increasing $r$-chains of symmetric non-crossing partitions give symmetric generalized Dyck paths by the bijection, and the boundary Fuss--Catalan algebras naturally act on them. We show that these representations are compatible with the diagrammatic representations of the algebras by use of generalized chord diagrams. Thirdly, we discuss the integrability of the Fuss--Catalan algebras. For the Fuss--Catalan algebras with boundaries, we obtain a new solution of the reflection equation in the case of $r=2$.

Let $\mathcal{M}_{n,a}$ be the set consisting of involutions in symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ with exactly $a$ fixed points and apply the orbit harmonics method to obtain a graded $\mathfrak{S}_n$-module $R(\mathcal{M}_{n,a})$. Liu, Ma, Rhoades, and Zhu figured out a signed combinatorial formula for the graded Frobenius image $\mathrm{grFrob}(R(\mathcal{M}_{n,a});q)$ of $R(\mathcal{M}_{n,a})$. Our goal is to cancel these signs. Finally, we find two positive combinatorial formulae for $\mathrm{grFrob}(R(\mathcal{M}_{n,a});q)$. As an application, we deduce a series of $\mathfrak{S}_n$-equivariant isomorphisms between graded components $R(\mathcal{M}_{n,a})_d$ and $R(\mathcal{M}_{n,a^{\prime}})_d$ for some integers $a\neq a^{\prime}$ and $d$. Our positive formulae also yield potential attempts to find a linear basis for $R(\mathcal{M}_{n,a})$ and a statistic $\mathrm{stat}:\mathcal{M}_{n,a}\rightarrow\mathbb{Z}_{\ge0}$ to interpret the Hilbert series $\mathrm{Hilb}(R(\mathcal{M}_{n,a});q)$ of $R(\mathcal{M}_{n,a})$.

The ideals generated by fold products of linear forms are generalizations of powers of defining ideals of star configurations, or of Veronese type ideals, and in this paper we study their Betti numbers. In earlier work, the authors together with Yu Xie showed that these ideals have linear graded free resolution, and in this paper we take the study of the homological information about these ideals to the next natural level.
Orbits and equivariant local systems combinatorics in graded Lie algebras
In this paper, we will describe a combinatorial object to list the orbits in the ${\mathbb Z}$-graded Lie algebra, their Jordan bloc decomposition, their dimension, their dimension, the partial order and the equivariant local system (up to isomorphism) for four infinite families: two are for the symplectic groups and two are for the special orthogonal groups. These orbits and equivariant local systems appear in the study of perverse sheaves arising from graded Lie algebras.
The V-Number of Binomial Edge Ideals: Minimal Cuts and Cycle Graphs

The v-number of a graded ideal is an invariant recently introduced in the context of coding theory, particularly in the study of Reed--Muller-type codes. In this work, we study the localized v-numbers of a binomial edge ideal $J_G$ associated to a finite simple graph $G$. We introduce a new approach to compute these invariants, based on the analysis of transversals in families of subsets arising from dependencies in certain rank-two matroids. This reduces the computation of localized v-numbers to the determination of the radical of an explicit ideal and provides upper bounds for these invariants. Using this method, we explicitly compute the localized v-numbers of $J_G$ at the associated minimal primes corresponding to minimal cuts of $G$. Additionally, we determine the v-number of binomial edge ideals for cycle graphs and give an almost complete answer to a recent conjecture, showing that the v-number of a cycle graph $C_n$ is either $\textstyle \left\lceil \frac{2n}{3} \right\rceil$ or $\textstyle \left\lceil \frac{2n}{3} \right\rceil - 1$.
Fundamental and homogeneous bases of Hopf algebras built from nonsymmetric operads
We introduce new partial order structures on the underlying sets of free nonsymmetric operads. These posets involve decorated ordered rooted trees, and their terminal intervals are lattices. These lattices are not graded, not self-dual, and not semi-distributive, but they are EL-shellable, and their Mbius functions take values in $\{-1, 0, 1\}$. They admit sublattices on the families of $m$-Fuss-Catalan objects and of forests of trees. This latter order structure is used to construct two new bases for the natural Hopf algebras of free nonsymmetric operads: a fundamental basis and a homogeneous basis. Along with the already known elementary basis of these Hopf algebras, this yields a triple of bases. The situation is similar to what is observed in the Hopf algebras of Malvenuto-Reutenauer, Loday-Ronco, and noncommutative symmetric functions, each of which presents such triples of bases and basis changes involving, respectively, the right weak partial order, the Tamari partial order, and the Boolean lattice partial order.

The (ordinary) representation theory of the symmetric group is fascinating and has rich connections to combinatorics, including the Frobenius correspondence to the self-dual graded Hopf algebra of symmetric functions. The $0$-Hecke algebra (of type $A$) is a deformation of the group algebra of the symmetric group, and its representation theory has an analogous correspondence to the dual graded Hopf algebras of quasisymmetric functions and noncommutative symmetric functions. Macdonald used the hook length formula for the number of standard Young tableaux of a fixed shape to determine how many irreducible representations of the symmetric group have dimensions indivisible by a prime $p$. In this paper, we study the dimensions of the projective indecomposable modules of the $0$-Hecke algebra modulo $p$; such a module is indexed by a composition and its dimension is given by a ribbon number, i.e., the cardinality of a descent class. Applying a result of Dickson on the congruence of multinomial coefficients, we count how many ribbon numbers belong to each congruence class modulo $p$. We also extend the result to other finite Coxeter groups.
Matroid complexes and Orlik-Solomon algebras
In this article we construct a combinatorial quasi-free differential graded model for the Orlik-Solomon algebra of supersolvable matroids, which generalizes in a matroidal setting the cdga of admissible graphs introduced by M. Kontsevich for the braid arrangements. Our construction draws on well-known concepts from matroid theory, including modularity, single-element extensions, and generalized parallel connections. We also show that this model carries a cooperadic structure in a suitably generalized sense. As an application, we use this model to give a new proof that the Orlik-Solomon algebras of supersolvable matroids are Koszul.
Upho lattices II: ways of realizing a core

A poset is called upper homogeneous, or "upho," if all of its principal order filters are isomorphic to the whole poset. In previous work of the first author, it was shown that each (finite-type N-graded) upho lattice has associated to it a finite graded lattice, called its core, which determines the rank generating function of the upho lattice. In that prior work the question of which finite graded lattices arise as cores was explored. Here, we study the question of in how many different ways a given finite graded lattice can be realized as the core of an upho lattice. We show that if the finite lattice has no nontrivial automorphisms, then it is the core of finitely many upho lattices. We also show that the number of ways a finite lattice can be realized as a core is unbounded, even when restricting to rank-two lattices. We end with a discussion of a potential algorithm for listing all the ways to realize a given finite lattice as a core.
Graded discrepancy of graphs and hypergraphs
This paper studies the following question of Bollobás and Scott: Let $G$ be a graph with $n$ vertices and $p\binom{n}{2}$ edges. What is the smallest $c(p, n)$ such that there is an ordering $v_1, \ldots, v_n$ of the vertices in $G$ with $\left|e(\{v_1, \ldots, v_i\})-p\binom{i}{2}\right|\leq c(p, n)$ for all $i\in \{1,\ldots,n\}$ ? We obtain upper and lower bounds for $c(p,n)$ that are both linear in $n$. Furthermore, we generalize the result to $k$-uniform hypergraphs.
