$K$-$k$-Schur functions are $k$-Schur positive
The $k$-Schur functions (resp., $K$-$k$-Schur functions) are the symmetric function representatives of Schubert classes in the homology (resp., $K$-homology) of the affine Grassmannian of type $A$. We prove that every $K$-$k$-Schur function is a nonnegative integer linear combination in the basis of $k$-Schur functions. This settles a conjecture by Lam, Schilling and Shimozono. The proof relies on realizations of $k$-Schur and $K$-$k$-Schur functions as Catalan and Katalan functions, respectively.
Crystal skeletons: Combinatorics and axioms
Crystal skeletons were introduced by Maas-Gariépy in 2023 by contracting quasi-crystal components in a crystal graph. On the representation theoretic level, crystal skeletons model the expansion of Schur functions into Gessel's quasisymmetric functions. Motivated by questions of Schur positivity, we provide a combinatorial description of crystal skeletons, and prove many new properties, including a conjecture by Maas-Gariépy that crystal skeletons generalize dual equivalence graphs. We then present a new axiomatic approach to crystal skeletons. We give three versions of the axioms based on $GL_n$-branching, $S_n$-branching, and local axioms in analogy to the local Stembridge axioms for crystals based on novel commutation relations.

Strong $q$-log-convexity of the $d$-Hoggatt polynomials
In this paper, three ($q$-)log-convexity or concavity properties related to the $d$-Hoggatt numbers are investigated. First, we show that the $d$-Hoggatt transformation preserves the log-convexity of a sequence. We then establish the strong $q$-log-concavity of a $q$-analog of $d$-Hoggatt numbers. Finally, we prove the core result of this work, namely, the sequence of $d$-Hoggatt polynomials is strongly $q$-log-convex, based on the theory of Schur functions.
On statistics of prime parking functions, Łukasiewicz paths, and quasisymmetric functions
We recall that a parking function of length $n+1$ is said to be prime if removing any instance of 1 yields a parking function of length $n$. In this article, we study prime parking functions from multiple lenses. We derive an explicit formula for the average value of the total displacement of prime parking functions. We present a formula for the displacement-enumerator of prime parking functions that involves a sum over Łukasiewicz paths. We describe the one-to-one correspondence between parking functions and labeledŁukasiewicz paths via Dyck paths. We introduce the concept of $\ell$-forward differences and use this as a vehicle for examining ties, ascents, and descents in prime parking functions. We establish a link between Schur functions corresponding to the partition $(i,1^{n-i})$ and fundamental quasisymmetric functions indexed by prime parking function tie sets of size $n-i.$

Majorization Inequalities from Logarithmic Convexity
Majorization inequalities for symmetric polynomials have interested mathematicians for centuries, from the AM-GM inequality for two variables going back at least to Baudhāyana's Śulbasūtra and Euclid's Elements in the first millenium BCE, through classical results of Newton, Muirhead and Gantmacher, to more recent extensions to Schur polynomials and zonal spherical functions. These have been established case by case, with no unified approach. Although it is known that majorization inequalities follow from symmetry and convexity in the indexing partition, the difficulty of proving convexity in specific cases has left a number of outstanding conjectures inaccessible until now. The key insight of this paper is that log-convexity provides a more versatile tool and a unifying principle. It implies convexity and hence majorization, and it is preserved under multiplication and weighted averaging, making it well suited to inductive arguments in a wide range of settings. Using this idea, we prove new majorization inequalities for Macdonald polynomials, Jack polynomials and Heckman-Opdam hypergeometric functions, unifying existing results and resolving several open conjectures.

Symmetric group actions on the coordinate ring of the lower unipotent group and the polynomial ring with quantum parameters
Givental-Kim and Ciocan-Fontanine gave an explicit presentation of the quantum cohomology ring of the flag variety. The author and Shirato introduced an algebraic generalization of their presentation in the context of the coordinate rings of regular nilpotent Hessenberg varieties. In particular, they connect the coordinate ring of the lower unipotent group in a general linear group and the polynomial ring with quantum parameters. In this paper we consider the dual of the connection and we see that the Plücker coordinates correspond to the quantizations of Schur polynomials. As an application of the connection, we construct an action of the symmetric group on the polynomial ring with quantum parameters. Using the symmetric group action, one can define the divided difference operators on the polynomial ring with quantum parameters. We study the quantizations of Schubert polynomials in relation to the divided difference operators.
Laurent Symmetric Functions
We describe the ring of Laurent symmetric polynomials in terms of generators and relations, giving an analogue of the Fundamental Theorem of Symmetric Polynomials. We extend the Hall inner product, and give an algebraic proof that the Laurent Schur polynomials form an orthonormal basis of this ring. In the case of infinitely many variables, we realize the ring of Laurent symmetric functions as a direct limit of inverse limits, and relate them to characters of rational and algebraic representations of general linear groups.

From Yang-Baxter to Robinson-Schensted-Knuth
We explain how to derive the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth (RSK) correspondence, a fundamental bijection in algebraic combinatorics, from the Yang-Baxter equation. The Yang-Baxter equation arose in the study of quantum many-body systems and later became a cornerstone of the theory of solvable lattice models, particularly vertex models. In a vertex model, arrows occupy the edges of a grid, and each vertex carries a Boltzmann weight determined by the arrows on the four edges meeting at it. The weight of a configuration is the product of these local weights, and a partition function is the sum of the weights of all configurations with prescribed boundary conditions. For a vertex model whose partition functions are the Schur polynomials, the two sides of each instance of the Yang-Baxter equation admit exactly one weight-preserving matching of their summands. Carried across a grid, this forced matching is the classical RSK correspondence in the form of Fomin's growth diagrams. In natural coordinates the local matching becomes the combinatorial three-dimensional R, a set-theoretic solution of the Zamolodchikov tetrahedron equation. Its periodic closure returns the combinatorial R-matrices of one-row crystals. The forced matching is special to the Schur weights. For the Hall-Littlewood and q-Whittaker deformations and their spin versions, at generic parameter values no deterministic matching works for all boundary data. Reading each instance of the Yang-Baxter equation probabilistically, we replace the matching by a coupling of the two sides - a bijectivization, or probabilistic bijection - and obtain Markov operators that transport probability measures attached to vertex models. Iterated over the grid, these operators produce randomized RSK-type dynamics and interacting particle systems, including q-PushTASEP and the stochastic six-vertex model.

Categorification of $k$-Schur functions and refined Macdonald positivity
We establish a substantial part of the categorification framework for $k$-Schur functions proposed in Chen's Ph.D.\ thesis, written under the supervision of Mark Haiman. More precisely, we realize $k$-Schur functions as the graded characters of a distinguished family of objects in a certain module category and establish module-theoretic analogues of several foundational properties of $k$-Schur functions. A final part of Chen's framework predicts a homological characterization of modules admitting filtrations by these distinguished objects; we establish this characterization under an additional combinatorial hypothesis. In addition, we unconditionally prove that modules arising in this framework admit filtrations whose subquotients are affine Demazure modules of level $k$. As a consequence, modified Macdonald polynomials expand positively in the characters of affine Demazure modules. This may be viewed as a homological refinement of Macdonald positivity, arising from an intrinsic $\mathrm{ext}$-orthogonality condition on the corresponding Garsia--Haiman modules. We also prove the combinatorial hypothesis for $m \le 2k$ in the appendix and verify it computationally for $m\leq 19$, yielding $k$-Schur positivity of modified Macdonald polynomials in these cases. Our approach builds on our previous work on the algebraic and geometric realization of Catalan symmetric functions, a class encompassing both $k$-Schur and Hall--Littlewood functions.

Cauchy identities for skew Ferrers shapes via RSK and keys
Let $μ\subseteqλ\subseteq(m^n)$. We characterize the image under the ordinary Robinson--Schensted--Knuth correspondence of matrices supported on the skew Ferrers diagram $λ/μ$. The outer boundary determines an upper bound on the right key of the insertion tableau, while the inner boundary determines a lower bound on its left key; both bounds depend on the keys of the recording tableau. This yields tableau expansions of skew Ferrers Cauchy kernels using the standard basis polynomials of Lascoux and Schützenberger, indexed by intervals in Bruhat order. The proof first treats ordinary Ferrers diagrams. Using the supremum characterization of right keys from earlier work, we follow the $λ$-dependent bounds through single RSK insertions. When $λ$ has repeated parts, these weak column bounds need not form a semistandard tableau. Strictification determines a set $\operatorname{Comp}(λ)$ of admissible weak compositions and, for each $α\in\operatorname{Comp}(λ)$, a composition $α^λ$. Ordinary RSK then gives a weight-preserving bijective realization of the expansion \[ \prod_{(i,j)\inλ}\frac{1}{1-x_i y_j} = \sum_{α\in\operatorname{Comp}(λ)} \hat K_α(x)K_{α^λ}(y), \] where $\hat K_α$ and $K_α$ denote Demazure atoms and key polynomials, respectively. We also give a direct admissibility criterion and a parking procedure for computing $α^λ$. After translating conventions, these agree with the admissibility condition and half-bubble-sort construction of Feigin, Khoroshkin, and Makedonskyi. The staircase and truncated-staircase identities follow as special cases. Finally, we extend the weak-bound construction to an infinite alphabet, where strictification need not exist, and derive the infinite-variable Cauchy identity for the $m$-symmetric Schur functions.

Type C transpositions and strong marked tableaux
Motivated by the Morse--Seelinger conjecture on type C $k$-Schur functions, we develop a permutation model for type C strong marked tableaux. Using type C transpositions, we give an explicit correspondence with the symmetric-core model that preserves the marking data. We also describe the induced affine Weyl group action on bounded partitions.

Elliptic $b$-Hurwitz theory and Jack heat trace
We study a deformation of the central heat trace on $\mathrm U(N)$ obtained by deforming Schur polynomials to Jack polynomials, and prove that it admits an asymptotic expansion to arbitrary order. Its coefficients are governed by elliptic $b$-Hurwitz numbers, which are genus-one counterparts of the $b$-Hurwitz theory of Chapuy and Dołęga \cite{ChapuyDolega22}. We construct the associated elliptic $b$-Hurwitz theory by means of generalized coverings on a torus and identify it with the genus-one closure of the genus-zero simple $b$-Hurwitz theory. At $b=0$ the construction recovers ordinary elliptic Hurwitz theory, while at $b=1$ it gives an automorphism-weighted geometric interpretation of the connected and disconnected twisted elliptic Hurwitz numbers of Hahn--Markwig \cite{HahnMarkwig26}. Our results extend the topological expansion obtained in the classical case in \cite{LemMai25,LM2} and take the form of a coupling between chiral and antichiral elliptic $b$-Hurwitz generating functions.

Temperley-Lieb Immanants of Ribbon Decomposition Matrices
Ribbon decomposition matrices give determinantal formulas for skew Schur functions that include as special cases the classical Jacobi-Trudi, Giambelli, and Lascoux-Pragacz formulas. We prove that certain elements of Lusztig's dual canonical basis, called Temperley-Lieb immanants, are Schur-positive when evaluated on ribbon decomposition matrices. We conjecture that this positivity holds for all elements of the dual canonical basis. This is known in the special case of Jacobi-Trudi matrices by a result of Haiman.
Rook characters as symmetric functions
We give several characterizations of an inhomogeneous basis of the ring of symmetric functions whose evaluations are the character values of the irreducible representations of the rook monoid (symmetric inverse semigroup). Using Schur--Weyl duality, we show that the transition coefficients of this basis with the power symmetric basis are the characters of the propagating partition algebra (dual symmetric inverse monoid algebra). In addition, the structure coefficients of this basis are equal to the coefficients in the smash (or Heisenberg) product of Schur functions.

Eulerian insertion operators and an Eulerian form of the Pieri rule
We study the operators obtained by inserting copies of a new largest letter into multiset permutations. Let $G_r$ denote the operator which inserts $r$ copies of a new largest letter. After the change of variables $δ=y-x$, $u=x/y$, and $E=u\partial_u$, we find that $$G_r=\frac{δ^r}{r!}E(E+1)\cdots(E+r-1).$$ Its generating series acts by a rational substitution, which yields the composition law. Our main result gives a common symmetric-function explanation for the ordinary and major-index operators. For $N\geq 0$, define $Φ_N(F_{N,S})=x^{|S|+1}y^{N-|S|}$. We prove that multiplication by the complete homogeneous symmetric function $h_r$ becomes the ordinary insertion operator: $Φ_{N+r}(h_r f)=G_rΦ_N(f)$, where $f\in\mathrm{QSym}_N$. There is a parallel specialization for the major index. A reverse finite principal specialization sends multiplication by $h_r$ to an operator $Q_r$, which is a polynomial in the $q$-shift $Θ_qf(t)=f(qt)$. Thus the ordinary and major-index operators arise from the same multiplication operator $f\mapsto h_r f$. Since the functions $h_r$ freely generate the ring of symmetric functions, the assignment $h_r\mapsto G_r$ extends to an algebra homomorphism. We determine the kernel of this homomorphism and the image of every homogeneous component. The images of Schur functions satisfy the Littlewood--Richardson multiplication identities, and the one-row case gives an Eulerian form of the Pieri rule.
Lower and upper bounds of Schur characters
Characterizations of lower and upper bounds for dual characters of flagged Weyl modules have attracted considerable interest. In this paper, we establish explicit pattern avoidance characterizations for lower and upper bounds of Schur characters, namely, the dual characters of Weyl modules associated with arbitrary diagrams. This setting extends the corresponding extremal problems for dual characters of flagged Weyl modules and includes skew Schur polynomials and, through Rothe diagrams, Stanley symmetric functions. Specifically, for a permutation $w$, we show that the Stanley symmetric function $F_w$ attains the lower bound if and only if $w$ avoids $321,2143,2413,3142$, and $3412$, and attains the upper bound if and only if $w$ avoids $312$ and $321$.

Diagrammatic Okada monoid and cellularity of the Okada algebra
It is well known that the Young lattice is the Bratelli diagram of the symmetric groups, expressing how irreducible representations restrict from $\mathfrak{S}_{N}$ to $\mathfrak{S}_{N-1}$. In 1975, Stanley discovered a similar lattice called the Young-Fibonacci lattice which was identified as the Bratelli diagram of a family of algebras $\{\mathbf{O}_N(X,Y)\}_{N \geq 0}$ by Okada in 1994. In this paper, we first realize the Okada algebra $\mathbf{O}_N(X,Y)$ and the associated monoid $\mathbf{O}_N$ using a labelled version of non-crossing arc-diagrams appearing in the description of the Temperley-Lieb algebra and Jones monoid. We establish, for general parameters $(X,Y)$, that the dimension of the Okada algebra $\mathbf{O}_N(X,Y)$ is $N!$, noting that Okada proved this result only in the semisimple case. We interpret a natural bijection between permutations and labelled arc-diagrams as an incarnation of Fomin's version of the Robinson-Schensted correspondence associated to the Young-Fibonacci lattice. The arc-diagram formalism allow us to probe the structure of the Okada monoid and algebra. In particular we prove that the Okada monoid is a regular, aperiodic $*$-monoid and we describe its Green relations and order. These results allow us to construct a cellular basis of the Okada algebra and to show that $\{\mathbf{O}_N(X,Y)\}_{N \geq 0}$ forms a coherent tower of cellular algebras in the sense of Goodman and Graber. We present some conjectures expressing the Gram determinant of the invariant bilinear form attached to each cell module in terms of Okada's clone Schur functions. We conclude the paper by presenting two follow-up, ongoing projects along with a series of questions pushing further the analogy between the symmetric groups and the Okada algebras.

Pfaffian--Toeplitz identities, Schur positivity, and the $q$-log-convexity of Baxter polynomials
We use the Pfaffian minor summation formula together with Jacobi--Trudi Toeplitz matrices to derive Pfaffian expansions in skew Schur functions. This yields explicit Schur expansions for several generating functions involving products of skew Schur functions. In particular, using sparse skew-symmetric matrices, we provide a Pfaffian proof of a Schur-positive identity arising in the study of the $q$-log-convexity of the Narayana polynomials. As the main application, we prove that the Baxter polynomials form a $q$-log-convex sequence. We further show that the Baxter transformation defined by the refined Baxter numbers preserves log-convexity. Finally, by realizing the $q$-refined Baxter numbers as principal specializations of rectangular Schur functions, we prove that the array of $q$-refined Baxter numbers is $q$-log-concave both along each row and along each column. Both $q$-log-concavity results extend naturally to the $q$-analogues of the $d$-Hoggatt numbers.

Schur polynomials twisted by roots of unity and reciprocal pairs: torsion filters, fusion quotients, and an equal-rank reduction at odd order
Write $μ_t$ for all $t$-th roots of unity and $z^{\pm1}$ for $r$ free reciprocal pairs. We study $Φ_{t,r}(β)=s_λ(μ_t,z^{\pm1})$, $β=λ+δ$, and the question the companion paper left open after $r=1$: when does it vanish? We factor the evaluation into classical branching followed by a torsion filter, and the shape depends on the parity of $t$: the point lies in the orthogonal group with determinant $(-1)^{t+1}$. For odd $t$ it sits in the identity component: an ordinary restriction $SO_{2R'+1}\downarrow SO_{2m'+1}\times SO_{2r}$, the filter an odd orthogonal character at a principal element of order $h+1$. For even $t$ in the other: a twining, a virtual expansion, and a torsion element regular but not principal; there we prove the filter, with its sign. One description covers both: the filter is nonzero exactly when the shifted torsion point is regular semisimple in the group. Both are minimal-level fusion projections: the even of type $C$, the tensor sector of the odd of type $B$. Affine folding accounts for the values $0,\pm1$; what it does not survives as conjectures. The highest surviving weight is the dominant vertex of the numerator's Newton polytope minus the denominator's, the latter proved here, the former conditional on a single-orbit property; and the class there --- virtual for even $t$, a genuine multiplicity space for odd --- is conjecturally primitive, $\pm$ the generator of the rank-one quotient. For odd $t$ and one $Λ$ that numerator is a signed transversal count in $\{0,\pm1\}$ by the equal-rank character formula, leaving one division. We invert it in closed form, as a sum along an arithmetic progression of step $2t$; the quotient is $\pmε_t\det M$ for an explicit $0/{\pm}1$ matrix, so total unimodularity of $M$ would settle it. Two extremal statements remain. Everything unproved here is measured, in both parities.

A Newton Identity and Finite-Rank Reconstruction for the Queer Lie Superalgebra
We establish a Newton-type identity for the queer Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak q_N$, relating Sergeev's odd cyclic central elements to Nazarov's one-row Capelli elements. The identity is obtained by comparing Ivanov's generating function for factorial Schur $Q$-functions with the queer Perelomov-Popov product of Grigoryev and Nazarov. Its coefficient expansion yields a triangular change of generators between the odd cyclic and odd one-row families. In particular, the odd one-row Capelli elements generate the center, while the even one-row elements are redundant. In fixed rank, we derive determinantal relations and a generic reconstruction theorem. The basic cyclic Hankel determinant is identified with a resultant and factored into the failure-of-strong-typicality and shifted-resonance factors. After localization at this determinant, the center is generated by the first $2N$ odd cyclic elements; consequently, generic central characters are determined by their values on these elements.
