Quantum super Schur--Weyl duality and character formulas for mirabolic Hecke algebras
We establish a quantum super Schur--Weyl duality for the mirabolic Hecke algebra \(H_n^{\mathrm{mir}}(q)\) with \(q\) indeterminate and determine the corresponding bimodule decomposition. The centralizer of the mirabolic action is shown as a direct sum of homogeneous quantum Schur superalgebras. We describe the tensor-space annihilator and the resulting faithful quotient. When nonzero, the annihilator is generated by an explicit spectral idempotent attached to the smallest rectangle excluded by the hook condition. From the quantum super Schur--Weyl duality, we derive a super Frobenius formula for mirabolic Hecke algebras. This formula then yields a Murnaghan--Nakayama rule and Regev-type formulas for the irreducible characters. We also construct a super mirabolic RSK bijection from words in a super alphabet with an additional even letter to hook semistandard insertion tableaux together with recording pairs that distinguish the positions of the additional letter. This correspondence yields a Roichman formula for irreducible characters of \(H_n^{\mathrm{mir}}(q)\). Finally, we establish a parameter-inversion isomorphism between \(H_n^{\mathrm{mir}}(q^{-1})\) and the \(q\)-rook monoid algebra \(R_n(q)\) and use it to transport the duality, annihilators, and character formulas in both directions. The transported tensor decomposition provides a representation-theoretic interpretation of hook and two-row character sums for \(R_n(q)\).
Unequal-parameter Kostka--Foulkes polynomials of type $C_n$ at fundamental weights
We establish an explicit formula for the Kostka--Foulkes polynomial of type $C_n$ with unequal parameters at fundamental weights. As an application, we deduce an explicit Lusztig--Kato formula for the Hecke algebra of the special (but not hyperspecial) maximal compact subgroup of a quasi-split but non-split special orthogonal group over a $p$-adic field.
Quasiparabolic Gelfand models for finite irreducible Coxeter groups and their canonical Hecke structures
Quasiparabolic sets extend parabolic coset spaces while retaining a length filtration and natural Hecke algebra deformations. Gelfand models built from induced linear characters ask when such spaces can account for every irreducible representation exactly once. We classify, up to equality of the individual induced characters, all quasiparabolic Gelfand models for finite irreducible Coxeter groups with inducing characters restricted from their ambient parabolic subgroups, including the additional models of type \(D_{4r+2}\) and \(B_3\). We derive the associated finite Gelfand-pair and commutant consequences, construct canonical Hecke structures for the additional classical models.
Cutoff for q-deformed classical card shuffles in the type A Iwahori--Hecke algebra
We study the mixing behavior of three q-deformed card shuffles on $\mathcal{H}_q(S_n)$: the short systematic scan introduced in \cite{DiaconisRam2000}, the $q$--deformed random--to--random shuffle introduced in \cite{AxelrodFreedBraunerChiangComminsLang2024}, and the $q$--deformed $k$--star transposition shuffle, whose $q=1$ counterpart was studied in \cite{ArfaeeNestoridi}. The first two chains were diagonalized in \cite{DiaconisRam2000} and \cite{AxelrodFreedBraunerChiangComminsLang2024}, respectively. Here, we diagonalize the $q$--deformed $k$--star transposition shuffle and use the spectra of the three chains to study their mixing behavior. For fixed $q>1$, we prove that all three exhibit total variation and $\ell^2$ cutoff. For the short systematic scan, these improve both the upper and lower bounds of Diaconis and Ram \cite{DiaconisRam2000}.
Level-Rank Dualities for Finite Reductive Groups
This is an extended abstract of our work "Level-Rank Dualities from $Φ$-Cuspidal Pairs..." We present evidence for a family of surprising coincidences within the representation theory of a finite reductive group $G$: more precisely, dualities between blocks of cyclotomic Hecke algebras attached by Broué-Malle to $Φ$-cuspidal pairs of $G$, where the Hecke parameters are specialized not to the order of the underlying finite field, but to roots of unity. For the groups $G = \mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbf{F}_q)$, these coincidences can be expressed very concretely in terms of the combinatorics of partitions, and the whole story recovers an avatar of the level-rank duality studied by Frenkel, Uglov, Chuang-Miyachi, and others.
Weak Bruhat interval modules of the 0-Hecke algebras for stable Grothendieck polynomials
For a partition $λ$, let $G_λ^{(β)}$ be the stable $β$-Grothendieck polynomial attached to $λ$. Each homogeneous component of the $β= 1$ specialization $G_λ^{(1)}$ is Schur-positive and hence positive in the fundamental basis of quasisymmetric functions. For $m\ge|λ|$, let $G_{λ,m}^{(1)}$ be the homogeneous degree $m$ component of $G_λ^{(1)}$. In this paper, we first give a direct proof of an expansion of $G_{λ,m}^{(1)}$ in the fundamental basis in terms of standard set-valued tableaux. We then use these tableaux as a basis to define a module of the $0$-Hecke algebra and show that the quasisymmetric characteristic of the resulting module is $G_{λ,m}^{(1)}$. We further show that this module decomposes as a direct sum of weak Bruhat interval modules.
Jack Content Operators and the Deformed ${\mathcal W}_{1+\infty}$ Algebra
Frenkel and Wang obtained a representation of the Virasoro algebra by commuting Goulden's cut-and-join operator with the Heisenberg generators. A vertex-operator construction by Lascoux and the author extends this representation to $\mathcal W_{1+\infty}$ by means of differential operators whose eigenvalues are the power sums of the contents of a Young diagram. We develop a Jack deformation in the spherical degenerate double affine Hecke algebra and its stable limit. Starting from the Heckman--Polychronakos integrals, we isolate operators whose eigenvalues are the power sums of the $α$-contents. Because the Goulden--Jackson product is defined in the convention dual to the usual Calogero--Sutherland Hamiltonians, the multiplication operators $Δ_μ(α)$ are obtained by taking Hall adjoints. This gives conceptual derivations of the Jack cut-and-join operator and of the stable $3$-cycle operator. A normal-ordering construction due to Sergeev and Veselov makes the latter calculation explicit and suggests an integral form over $\mathbb Z[α]$. The commutators of the cut-and-join operator contain one half of the usual Feigin--Fuchs realization, but this Virasoro completion is not the deformation of the Frenkel--Wang construction. The latter takes place in the deformed $\mathcal W_{1+\infty}$ algebra $\mathbf{SH}^c$, equivalently in the affine Yangian of $\mathfrak{gl}_1$: in our normalization its first nontrivial Cartan mode is $ψ_3=3Δ_2(α)+2(α-1)E$, and its commutators with the first raising and lowering modes recursively generate the remaining currents. At $α=1$ these relations specialize to the central-charge-one $\mathcal W_{1+\infty}$ representation used by Lascoux and the author.
Periodic ASEP and random walks on affine Hecke Algebra
We study the large time behavior of a periodic ASEP with fixed period started from the step initial condition. We establish the limit shape theorem and the asymptotic distribution of a single second class particle. Our single-species results extend the previous results of Lam and Ayyer-Linusson about periodic TASEP to the ASEP case. These results can also be interpreted as describing the limit behavior of a random walk on affine Hecke algebra.
Enumerating cores of charged multipartitions
Granville and Ono proved that there is an $e$-core partition of $n$ for every $n\in\mathbb{N}$ if and only if $e\geq 4$, which translates to a statement about the existence of defect $0$ blocks for symmetric groups in positive characteristic and defect $0$ unipotent blocks of finite general linear groups in positive, non-defining characteristic. Motivated by analogous applications to the block theory of finite classical groups, imprimitive spetses, and cyclotomic Hecke algebras, we prove similar positivity statements about different variants of $e$-cores for charged multipartitions.
Noncrossing Combinatorics, the Full Twist, and Decategorification of Knot Invariants
Much work in knot theory has consisted of categorifying, and thereby strengthening, knot invariants. We take the opposite approach: decategorification, more commonly called combinatorics. We introduce a technique that relates the dual braid group generators, the Hecke images of pure braids, and factorization problems in reflection groups to knot invariants. We prove that the $(a,z{=}0)$-HOMFLYPT polynomial can be computed as a solution to such a problem. This technique was motivated by Coxeter--Catalan combinatorics. For example, we give a new proof of EL-shellability of the noncrossing partition lattice using the image of the full twist in the Hecke algebra; in a surprising sort of combinatorial reciprocity, its inverse computes the homotopy type. Similarly, noncrossing partitions naturally arise from our construction applied to positive powers of the full twist, while cluster complexes come from the same construction applied to negative powers. In crystallographic type, we exploit the conjugacy of all Coxeter elements to give the first reflection subword models for rational noncrossing Catalan objects. Our reciprocity gives two models: one generalizing noncrossing partitions, and one generalizing clusters. Applying the same method produces two (rational) noncrossing parking models.
Molecules of an affine FPF $W$-graph and an asymptotic row-Beissinger correspondence
Kazhdan--Lusztig $W$-graphs encode the cell structure of Hecke algebras, while their bidirected connected components are called molecules. In finite type~$A$, the Robinson--Schensted correspondence describes cells and molecules, and Beissinger's row insertion constructs the common tableau associated with an involution. In affine type~$A$, the affine matrix-ball construction assigns an affine permutation a pair of tabloids together with a dominant weight, and Marberg introduced affine FPF $W$-graphs indexed by affine fixed-point-free involutions. We prove that, for an affine fixed-point-free involution, complete two-cycle truncations followed by finite row Beissinger insertion asymptotically recover both its common AMBC tabloid and its dominant weight. We also identify the bidirected edges of $Γ_n^{\m}$ with dual equivalence moves under AMBC, obtaining a classification of its molecule.
Stable Limit DAHA of type $(C^{\vee},C)$ and Stable Limit Koornwinder Polynomials
We construct two stable limit representations of the double affine Hecke algebra of type $(C^\vee,C)$ on the space of almost symmetric Laurent polynomials, namely the positive and negative stable limit representations. Starting from the standard polynomial representation of the finite rank DAHA of type $(C_n^\vee,C_n)$, we study the asymptotic behavior of the Cherednik operators under the two natural rescalings by positive and negative powers of the parameter $t$. We prove that these rescaled Cherednik operators admit well-defined limits on the ring of almost symmetric Laurent polynomials. This yields stable positive and negative actions of a common stable limit DAHA. The action of the limit Cherednik operators is also proven to be triangular on a natural basis of almost symmetric Laurent polynomials labeled by tuple-partition symbols with respect to the induced Bruhat order. We further construct for each of the two stable limit representations a set of simultaneous eigenfunctions of the limit Cherednik operators using the partial symmetrization operators acting on the non-symmetric Koornwinder polynomials. We show that each of the two sets of the eigenfunctions form a basis of the space of almost symmetric Laurent polynomials, and denote them by the positive and negative stable limit Koornwinder polynomials.
Pseudo-centralizers in affine Hecke algebras
We introduce and study a subalgebra $\mathcal{B}$ of the affine Hecke algebra, which arises from a centralizer construction in the double affine Hecke algebra, and which may be regarded as a $v$-deformation of the affine Fomin-Stanley subalgebra introduced by Lam as a combinatorial model for the affine Grassmannian homology ring. In types $\mathsf{A}_n$ and $\mathsf{B}_2$ and $\mathsf{G}_2$, we show that $\mathcal{B}_\mathrm{aff}$ admits a canonical basis indexed by the cosets of the finite Weyl group in the affine Weyl group. We also discuss conjectural positivity properties of the canonical basis and explain how it can be used to study the center of the affine Hecke algebra.
The censored stochastic six-vertex model and parabolic Kazhdan--Lusztig $R$-polynomials
We introduce a censored version of the stochastic six-vertex model. We show that for parameters $b_1 < b_2$, this model started from the initial condition ${1}_{x>0}$ is stochastically dominated at any time by the blocking measure. This is a partial analog of the censoring inequality for monotone spin systems. In particular, this result allows us to control the behavior of second-class particles. The proof uses parabolic Kazhdan--Lusztig $R$-polynomials, whose appearance is explained using a connection between the stochastic six-vertex model and the Iwahori--Hecke algebras of symmetric groups. Furthermore, we find an intertwining relation for this process using normalized parabolic Kazhdan--Lusztig $R$-polynomials as an intertwining kernel.
AHA! RSK
We give a spectral realization of the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth (RSK) correspondence in terms of the representation theory of the symmetric group $S_n$ and the degenerate affine Hecke algebra (AHA) $H_n$. We view RSK, which builds a pair of standard Young tableaux from a permutation, as a special case of rectification, also known as Jeu de Taquin, which turns skew tableaux into straight ones. In this framing, the initial permutation corresponds to a skew tableau of staircase shape. To interpret this in terms of representation theory, take permutations to label weight vectors in a generic $H_n$-module $V(a_1, \ldots , a_n)$, which is isomorphic to $\mathbb{C}[S_n]$ as an $S_n$-module. Writing permutations as staircases amounts to placing these weight vectors inside the regular representation of a larger symmetric group containing $S_n$; more geometrically, we push $S_n$ to the right toward infinity so its Jucys-Murphy (JM) elements have enough room to represent the external translations of $H_n$. Then, rectification corresponds to squeezing out this extra room from the left, leaving only $S_n$ and its regular JM elements as the limit of the external translations. By expressing slides via sequences of exchanges of consecutive values inside the tableau, we can model rectification by an operator acting on the regular representation. This lets us explicitly write down the change of basis between $H_n$-weight vectors and $S_n$-weight vectors, where the latter are eigenvectors of the JM elements in $S_n$ acting both on the left and on the right, and hence labeled by pairs of standard tableaux. The resulting correspondence between the labels of the weight vectors is exactly RSK.
On Kazhdan--Lusztig basis elements having no reversal factorization
For $w$ in the symmetric group $S_n$, let $\widetilde C_w$ be the corresponding modified, signless Kazhdan--Lusztig basis element of the type-$A$ Hecke algebra $H_n(q)$. An extension [Ann. Comb. 25, no. 3 (2021) pp. 757--787] of a result of Deodhar [Geom. Dedicata 36, (1990) pp. 95--119] implies that any factorization of the form \begin{equation*}
\widetilde C_w = \frac1{f(q)} \widetilde C_{v^{(1)}} \cdots \widetilde C_{v^{(r)}},
\end{equation*} with $v^{(1)},\dotsc,v^{(r)}$ maximal elements of parabolic subgroups of $S_n$ and $f(q) \in \mathbb N[q]$ depending on these, provides cancellation-free combinatorial interpretations of the polynomials $\{P_{v,w}(q) \,|\, v \in S_n \}$ appearing in the expansion $\sum_v P_{v,w}(q) T_v$ of $\widetilde C_w$ in terms of the natural basis $\{ T_v \,|\, v \in S_n \}$ of $H_n(q)$. While the set of permutations $w \in S_n$ admitting such a factorization of $\widetilde C_w$ has not yet been characterized, we apply a result of Gaetz -- Gao [Adv. Math. 457 (2024) Paper No. 109941] to describe a set admitting no such factorization.
Recursive structures of molecules and cells in Gelfand $S_n$-graphs
$W$-graphs, representing the multiplication action of the standard basis on the canonical basis in the Iwahori-Hecke algebra are introduced by Kazhdan and Lusztig. Marberg defined a generalized $W$-graph, the Gelfand W-graph, corresponding to the Hecke algebra modules instead of Hecke algebras. To classify the molecules and cells of the Gelfand $S_n$-graphs, in this paper, we introduce a recursive structure of $S_n$ and then discuss the action of the recursive structure on the molecules. Using this struction, we show that a specific molecule is indeed a cell.
Kazhdan-Lusztig Basis and Optimization
We describe a conjectural approach to obtaining canonical bases of the Hecke algebra at $q=1$ via continuous quadratic optimization. We focus on Specht modules $S^λ$ and proper cones inside $S^λ$ that are invariant under the action of $1+s$ for all simple reflections $s\in S$. We show that there are unique minimal and maximal cones invariant under all $1+s$. For hook shapes, two-column shapes, and partitions of the form $(n-2,2)$, we prove that the Kazhdan--Lusztig basis spans this maximal cone. More generally, we define an optimization problem over bases that are unitriangular with respect to the polytabloid basis, subject to the constraint that the operators $1+s$ act non-negatively. We prove that the feasible region forms a compact semialgebraic set, and interpret it in terms of a hierarchy of invariant cones under all $1+s$. We demonstrate that minimizing the trace of the Gram matrix uniquely recovers Young's seminormal basis. Furthermore, we verify computationally that maximization uniquely recovers the Kazhdan--Lusztig basis for all partitions of $n\leq 7$. In higher ranks, the optimization detects deviations from the Kazhdan--Lusztig basis and may favour other natural positive bases, such as the Springer basis or $p$-canonical bases. Finally, we extend this framework to irreducible representations of $\mathfrak{sl}_n$. We observe that the Gelfand--Tsetlin basis corresponds to the unique minimizer, and we conjecture that the canonical basis corresponds to the maximum in small ranks.
Cusp Form Dimensions, Lattice Uniqueness, and LP Sharpness for Sphere Packing in Dimensions 8 and 24
The Cohn-Elkies linear programming (LP) bound for sphere packing is known to be sharp in dimensions 8 and 24 but in no other dimension above 2. We investigate why by examining three independent necessary conditions for LP sharpness, drawn from number theory, lattice theory, and conformal field theory. The first condition, dim S_{d/2}(SL_2(Z)) <= 1, bounds the freedom in theta series and rules out all d >= 48. The second, derived from Cohn and Triantafillou's dual LP obstruction via cusp forms for the congruence subgroup Gamma_0(2), explains why LP sharpness fails in dimensions 16 and 32 despite the first condition being satisfied. The third, via the Hartman-Mazac-Rastelli correspondence between LP bounds and the modular bootstrap for Narain conformal field theories, reinterprets LP sharpness as the existence of an extremal CFT. We formulate a conjecture that these three conditions are equivalent for d congruent to 0 mod 8, and observe that the Bost-Connes quantum statistical system provides a natural algebraic framework in which all three perspectives are connected through the Hecke algebra.
Mirabolic Hecke algebras, Schur-Weyl duality and Frobenius character formulas
We first introduce a new presentation for the mirabolic Hecke algebra $\mathscr{H}_{n,R}(q)$ over an arbitrary commutative ring $R$ and derive a new basis. Based on this presentation, specializing to the case of $\mathscr{H}_n(q)$ over the field $\mathbb{C}(q)$, we construct a basis for the cocenter of $\mathscr{H}_n(q)$, which facilitates the definition of its character table. We further establish a Schur--Weyl duality between $\mathscr{H}_n(q)$ and the quantum group $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}_r)$. As an application, we obtain Frobenius character formulas for the irreducible characters of $\mathscr{H}_n(q)$ within the ring of symmetric functions. Finally, we derive a recursive Murnaghan--Nakayama rule for the computation of the character table.
