Matching algebras and their Dunkl subalgebras
For a finite simple graph $G = (V, E)$, we consider the quotient algebra $\mathcal M(G)$ of the polynomial ring in the variables $u_e$ (for $e \in E$) by the ideal generated by all products $u_e u_f$ for non-disjoint edges $e$ and $f$ (including all squares $u_e^2$). This quotient is called the matching algebra of $G$, since it has a basis indexed by the matchings of $G$. In this quotient, we define a subalgebra $\mathcal D(G)$ generated by the signed incidence sums $θ_v=\sum_{e=(v,w)}u_e-\sum_{e=(w,v)}u_e$ for all $v \in V$ (where all edges of $G$ are oriented arbitrarily); we call this the Dunkl matching algebra.
We show that, as a graded vector space, $\mathcal D(G)$ is dual to the span of all polynomials $p_M = \prod_{(i,j) \in M} (x_i - x_j)$, where $M$ ranges over all matchings of $G$. For the complete graph $K_n$, the latter span is a direct sum of two-row Specht modules (one in each degree); thus its Hilbert series is that of the Catalan triangle, and, in characteristic zero, the Dunkl matching algebra can be presented by linear and quadratic relations. For arbitrary graphs, we formulate the saturation problem of deciding when the selected matching Specht generators $p_M$ in a given degree $k$ span the full two-row Specht module $S^{(n-k,k)}$. We show that saturation in degree $k$ forces $k$-connectivity, that saturation in degree $2$ is equivalent to $2$-connectivity, and that $k$-linked graphs are saturated in degree $k$. We also prove saturation in every possible degree whenever the complement of $G$ is a matching. We show that the Dunkl matching algebra equals the full matching algebra exactly for forests, and give an explicit Hilbert series formula for unicyclic graphs.
Symmetric group actions on the coordinate ring of the lower unipotent group and the polynomial ring with quantum parameters
Givental-Kim and Ciocan-Fontanine gave an explicit presentation of the quantum cohomology ring of the flag variety. The author and Shirato introduced an algebraic generalization of their presentation in the context of the coordinate rings of regular nilpotent Hessenberg varieties. In particular, they connect the coordinate ring of the lower unipotent group in a general linear group and the polynomial ring with quantum parameters. In this paper we consider the dual of the connection and we see that the Plücker coordinates correspond to the quantizations of Schur polynomials. As an application of the connection, we construct an action of the symmetric group on the polynomial ring with quantum parameters. Using the symmetric group action, one can define the divided difference operators on the polynomial ring with quantum parameters. We study the quantizations of Schubert polynomials in relation to the divided difference operators.
Kostant $ρ$-decomposition of homology I. Finite-dimensional representations
We give explicit, uniform formulas for the graded characters and total ranks of the Lie algebra homology of finite-dimensional representations in all classical types. In many cases, these compute the Tor groups of finite length modules over polynomial rings, and this is the first in a series of papers to investigate total rank conjectures from this perspective. These formulas refine and generalize the classical $ρ$-decomposition of Kostant, and in particular we prove that the characters involved exhibit three structural phenomena: divisibility (by a large power of 2), equidistribution, and uniform factorization formulas.
Asymptotic $\mathrm{v}$-number of graded families of ideals and the Newton-Okounkov region
In this paper, we prove that for Noetherian graded families $\mathcal{I} = \{I_k\}_{k \ge 0}$ of homogeneous ideals in a Noetherian $\mathbb{N}$-graded Noetherian domain, $\lim\limits_{k \to \infty} \frac{\mathrm{v}(I_k)}{k}$ exists, and is given by $\frac{α(I_r)}{r}$ for some $r \ge 1$, where $α(I)$ denotes the initial degree. Extending these results to integral closures, we show that $
\lim\limits_{k\to\infty}\frac{\mathrm{v}(\overline{I_k})}{k} = \lim\limits_{k\to\infty}\frac{α(\overline{I_k})}{k}=\lim\limits_{k\to\infty}\frac{\mathrm{v}(I_k)}{k}=\lim\limits_{k\to\infty}\frac{α(I_k)}{k} $. For a graded family of monomial ideals in a polynomial ring, we provide a combinatorial interpretation of these limits via Newton--Okounkov regions $Δ(\mathcal{I})$. This connection is further generalized to arbitrary homogeneous ideals using good valuations. We also establish that both $\operatorname{reg}(I_k)$ and $\mathrm{v}(I_k)$ are eventually quasi-linear functions of $k$ for any Noetherian graded family. For a stable monomial ideal $I$ we show that $\mathrm{v}(I) < \operatorname{reg}(I)$. Finally, for a zero-dimensional homogeneous ideal $I$ in a polynomial ring $S$, we prove that $\mathrm{v}(I) < e(S/I)$, where $e(S/I)$ denotes the multiplicity.
The structure of automorphism groups of zero-dimensional monomial algebras
Let $A$ be a zero-dimensional monomial algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, that is, a finite-dimensional quotient of a polynomial ring by a monomial ideal. Its automorphism group $G$ is a linear algebraic group, described through the homogeneous nilpotent derivations of $A$. We analyze the structure of $G$ in detail. Its identity component $G^0$ is a semidirect product of its unipotent radical and a reductive subgroup isomorphic to a product of general linear groups, and for each root degree we characterize when the associated derivations give rise to an additive root subgroup, and determine its dimension. Using the Lie brackets of these derivations, we then give an explicit algorithm that produces, out of the minimal monomial generators of the ideal, a family of root subgroups generating $G^0$ together with a maximal torus. Such a family is minimal in the generic case. We also show that the component group $G/G^0$ can be arbitrary: every finite group arises as the component group of the automorphism group of some zero-dimensional monomial algebra. Finally, we apply these results to the algebras $\mathbf{k}[\mathbf{x}]/\mathfrak{m}^d$, showing that the subgroup generated by a maximal torus and the outer root subgroups is exactly the subgroup of automorphisms with constant Jacobian determinant, and we deduce from this a new proof of Anick's theorem on the density of the tame automorphisms of $\mathbf{k}[\mathbf{x}]$.
Nonvanishing higher Specht polynomials and a construction for three row and hook shape Garsia--Procesi modules
Given a polynomial ring quotient $R=\mathbb{C}[x_1,\ldots,x_n]/I$ with an action of the symmetric group induced by permuting the variables, a higher Specht basis is a collection of bases for each irreducible $\mathfrak{S}_n$-module in its decomposition that mimics the behavior of the classical Specht polynomial construction in the lowest degrees. Higher Specht bases have now been constructed for the coinvariant ring, the full polynomial ring, the rings $R_{n,k}$ appearing in the $t=0$ Delta conjecture, the hook shape Garsia-Haiman modules, and the two-row Garsia-Procesi modules, and more.
We establish a general theory for determining when a higher Specht polynomial is nonzero, and give a proof of a conjectural higher Specht basis for all Garsia-Procesi modules in the cases of three row shapes and hook shapes.
A comparison of the v-number of a monomial ideal and its integral closure
Let $I$ be a monomial ideal in a standard graded polynomial ring and let $\overline{I}$ denote its integral closure. We study the relationship between $\mathrm{v}(I)$ and $\mathrm{v}(\overline{I})$. We prove that $\mathrm{v}(\overline{I}) \leq \mathrm{v}(I)$ for monomial ideals in two variables, for equigenerated monomial ideals in three variables and for several special classes of monomial ideals, while providing examples showing that this inequality does not hold in general. For the edge ideal $I(G)$ of a connected graph $G$, we show that $\mathrm{v}(I(G)^k)=\mathrm{v}(\overline{I(G)^k}) =
2k-1$ for all $k \geq 1+|E(G)|$. Moreover, when $G$ is disconnected, we prove that $\mathrm{v}(\overline{I(G)^k})\leq\mathrm{v}({I(G)^k})$ for all sufficiently large $k$.
Universality in the algebra and topology of cographs
A finite simple graph $G$ is called a cograph if it does not contain the path on four vertices $P_4$ as an induced subgraph. It is classically known that the family of cographs are well-quasi-ordered by the induced subgraph relation \cite{D}. In preceding work of Knudsen and the third author \cite[Theorem 7.2]{KR}, it was shown that this well-quasi-order statement admitted a categorification, which allowed those authors to prove universal finite generation statements about the homology groups of configuration spaces on cographs \cite[Theorem 1.5]{KR}. In this work, we expand \cite[Theorem 7.2]{KR} to be compatible with the family of polynomial rings on the vertex sets of cographs. By consequence, we are able to prove a number of universality results related with edge and toric ideals of these polynomial ring, partially generalizing and expanding upon work of Kahle \cite{kahle2019binomial}. We also conclude strong restrictions on the kinds of topologies that can arise from graph complexes and anchored configuration spaces associated to cographs, as well as combinatorial constraints on the possible combinatorics of hyperplane arrangements of cographs.
Symbolic Rees algebras of complementary edge ideals
Let $G$ be a finite simple graph on $[n]$ and let $I_c(G)$ denote its complementary edge ideal in the polynomial ring $S = K[x_1,\dots,x_n]$. We give a combinatorial description, in terms of the structure of $G$, of the minimal generators of the symbolic Rees algebra $\mathcal{R}_s(I_c(G)) = \bigoplus_{k \geq 0} I_c(G)^{(k)} t^k$, and show that this algebra is generated in degree at most $6$. Moreover, we completely determine the minimal generators of $\mathcal{R}_{s}(I_{c}(G))$ in graph-theoretic terms. We then study in more detail the homological invariants of the symbolic powers $I_c(G)^{(k)}$ for the classes of cycle graphs and complete multipartite graphs. For theses families, we study the behavior of the symbolic depth function $k\mapsto\operatorname{depth} S/I_c(G)^{(k)}$, we obtain the limit depth of the symbolic powers and the Waldschmidt constant of $I_c(G)$, and further prove that all the symbolic powers $I_c(G)^{(k)}$ are componentwise linear.
Multi-graded generic initial ideals, regularity, and the optimal colorful fractional Helly theorem for $d$-Leray complexes
A celebrated result of Bayer and Stillman from 1987 states that for a homogeneous ideal $I$ of a polynomial ring $S$, the regularities of $S/I$ and $S/\textrm{GIN}(I)$ are the same under the reverse lexicographic monomial ordering, where $\textrm{GIN}(I)$ is the generic initial ideal. If $R$ is a polynomial ring whose variables are subdivided into disjoint blocks of variables $X_1,\dots,X_c$, there is a natural multi-grading on $R$, and one can analogously define a multi-graded version of the generic initial ideal for any multi-homogeneous ideal $I$ of $R$. However, the full strength of the Bayer--Stillman Theorem fails in the multi-graded setting; there are multi-homogeneous ideals $I$ such that the regularities are not preserved after passing to the multi-graded generic initial ideal no matter the choice of monomial ordering.
We prove lower bounds on the regularity of $R/I$ in terms of almost regular sequences of the multi-graded generic initial ideal of $I$ restricted to each block of variables. Again, we use the reverse lexicographic monomial ordering, but interestingly, the lower bound result requires a particular choice of ordering on the variables.
As an application, we prove the optimal fractional Helly theorem for $d$-Leray simplicial complexes, a problem stemming from the work of Kim in 2017.
Componentwise linear monomial ideals
Let $S=K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ denote the polynomial ring in $n$ variables over a field $K$ with ${\rm deg} x_1=\cdots ={\rm deg} x_n = 1$ and ${\bf a} = (a_1,\ldots,a_n) \in {\mathbb Z}_{>0}^n$. Given a squarefree monomial $u=x_{i_1} \cdots x_{i_d}$ of $S$ with $1 \leq i_1 < \cdots < i_d \leq n$, we set $u^{[{\bf a}]}:=x_{i_1}^{a_{i_1}}\cdots x_{i_d}^{a_{i_d}}$. Let $I$ be a squarefree monomial ideal of $S$ and $G(I)$ its unique minimal set of monomial generators. We introduce the monomial ideal $I^{[{\bf a}]}$ with $G(I^{[{\bf a}]})=\{u^{[{\bf a}]} : u \in G(I)\}$. In the present paper, componentwise linearity of a squarefree monomial ideal $I$ and that of $I^{[{\bf a}]}$ is studied.
Depth and Krull dimension of Binomial edge ideals
Let $J_G$ denote the binomial edge ideal of a finite graph $G$ in the polynomial ring $S$. We determine all triples $(n,t,d)$ with $n\geq 3$ for which there exists a finite connected graph $G$ on $n$ vertices with ${\mathrm{depth}}(S/J_{G})=t$ and $\dim(S/J_G)=d$.
Derangement permutation matrices and orbit harmonics
Let $\mathbf{x}_{n \times n}$ be an $n \times n$ matrix of variables and let $S = \mathbb{F}[\mathbf{x}_{n \times n}]$ be the polynomial ring over these variables where $\mathbb{F}$ is a field of characteristic zero. Regard $S$ as the coordinate ring of the affine space $\mathbb{F}^{n \times n}$ of $n \times n$ $\mathbb{F}$-matrices. Let $\mathfrak{D}_n \subseteq \mathbb{F}^{n \times n}$ be the locus of derangement permutation matrices. We study the orbit harmonics quotient ring ${\bf R}(\mathfrak{D}_n) = S/\mathrm{gr} \, \mathbf{I}(\mathfrak{D}_n)$ where $\mathrm{gr} \, \mathbf{I}(\mathfrak{D}_n)$ is the associated graded ideal of the vanishing ideal $\mathbf{I}(\mathfrak{D}_n) \subseteq S$. We give an explicit generating set of $\mathrm{gr} \, \mathbf{I}(\mathfrak{D}_n),$ relate the Hilbert series of $\mathbf{R}(\mathfrak{D}_n)$ to the Foata transformation and the longest increasing subsequence statistic on $\mathfrak{S}_n$, and give an alternating sum formula for the graded $\mathfrak{S}_n$-character of $\mathbf{R}(\mathfrak{D}_n)$. Our proofs make heavy use of the mapping cone construction of homological algebra.

Let $I$ be a monomial ideal of a polynomial ring $R=K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ over a field $K$ and let ${\rm sgn}(I)$ be its signature ideal. If $I$ is not a principal ideal, we show that the depth of $R/I$ is the depth of $R/{\rm sgn}(I)$, and the regularity of $R/{\rm sgn}(I)$ is at most the regularity of $R/I$. For ideals of height at least $2$, we show that the associated primes of $I$ and ${\rm sgn}(I)$ are the same, and we show that $I$ is Cohen--Macaulay (resp. Gorenstein) if and only if ${\rm sgn}(I)$ is Cohen--Macaulay (resp. Gorenstein), and furthermore we show that the v-number of ${\rm sgn}(I)$ is at most the v-number of $I$ and compare the irreducible decompositions of $I$ and ${\rm sgn}(I)$. We give an algorithm to compute the signature of a monomial ideal using \textit{Macaulay}$2$, and an algorithm to examine given families of monomial ideals by computing their signature ideals and determining which of these are Cohen--Macaulay or Gorenstein.
Ordered alternating paths and the depth of symbolic powers of cover ideals of graphs
Let $G$ be a simple graph with cover ideal $J(G)$ in a polynomial ring $S$ in $|V(G)|$ variables. For a matching $M$ of $G$, we denote by $\ell(M)$ the length of the longest $M$-alternating path in $G$. We define $α_t(G)$ to be the maximum size of an ordered matching $M$ of $G$ such that $\ell(M) \le 2t-1$. We then prove that $$\operatorname{depth}(S/J(G)^{(t)}) \le |V(G)| - 1 - α_t(G)$$ for all $t \ge 1$, where $J(G)^{(t)}$ denotes the $t$-th symbolic power of $J(G)$, and that equality holds when $G$ is a forest.
$\textbf{k}$-neighborhood ideals of graphs
In this paper, we introduce and investigate the $\textbf{k}$-neighborhood ideal of a graph, a natural generalization of the closed neighborhood ideal. Let $G$ be a simple graph on the vertex set $[n]$, and let $S=K[x_1,\dots,x_n]$ be the polynomial ring over a field $K$. For a vector $\textbf{k}=(k_1,\ldots,k_n)\in \mathbb{N}^n$ satisfying $1\leq k_i\leq \textrm{deg}_G(i)+1$ for all $i$, the $\textbf{k}$-neighborhood ideal of $G$ is defined as the squarefree monomial ideal $$\textrm{NI}_{\textbf{k}}(G)=\sum_{i=1}^n\, (\textbf{x}_W:\, W\subseteq N_G[i],\, |W|=k_i)$$ of $S$, where $\textbf{x}_W=\prod_{i\in W} x_i$. We study homological invariants and properties of $\textrm{NI}_{\textbf{k}}(G)$ focusing on its Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity, projective dimension and Cohen-Macaulayness. Special attention is devoted to the case where the vector ${\textbf{k}}$ is the degree-vector of the graph, i.e., $k_i=\textrm{deg}_G(i)$ for all vertices $i$, and to the case where $\textrm{NI}_{\textbf{k}}(G)$ coincides with the edge ideal of a graph. In these settings, we provide combinatorial characterizations and bounds for the regularity and projective dimension of $\textrm{NI}_{\textbf{k}}(G)$ for several classes of graphs, and further investigate the Cohen-Macaulay property of these ideals.
Shape changing identities for permuted-basement nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials
Permuted-basement Macdonald polynomials $E_α^σ(\mathbf{x};q,t)$ are nonsymmetric generalizations of symmetric Macdonald polynomials that form a basis for the polynomial ring $\mathbb{Q}(q,t)[\mathbf{x}]$ for each fixed $σ$. There are combinatorial formulas for them as generating functions over composition-shaped non-attacking fillings. In this extended abstract, we bijectively prove identities for the relationship between $E_α^σ$, $E_α^{σs_i}$, $E_{s_iα}^σ$, and $E_{s_iα}^{σs_i}$. These identities correspond to two combinatorial operations on non-attacking fillings: (1) swapping adjacent entries in the basement, generalizing a result of Alexandersson (2019), and (2) swapping adjacent parts in the shape, which yields a straightening rule for expanding $E_α^σ$ in the polynomials $\{E_{s_iα}^τ\}_τ$.
Betti numbers for cochordal zero-divisor graphs of commutative rings
This paper studies the zero-divisor graphs attached to several finite chain-ring families and computes the homological invariants of their edge ideals by using cochordal constructible systems. We begin with a general layered graph $C(q,L)$, whose vertices are arranged according to valuation layers and whose adjacency is governed by the single rule $k+\ell\ge L$, form some integers $k$ and $\ell$. This graph models the zero-divisor structure of a finite chain ring with residue field of order $q$ and nilpotency index $L$. We prove that $C(q,L)$ is cochordal, determine its type sequence, then correct and refine the Betti formula of its edge ideal [Dung and Vu, Cochordal zero divisor graphs and Betti numbers of their edge ideals, Comm. Algebra 54(2) (2026) 736--744]. The results are then specialized to the Gaussian quotient rings $\mathbb Z_{2^m}[i]$ and to the truncated polynomial rings $\mathbb Z_p[x]/(x^c)$. We compute projective dimension, regularity, independence number, height, Hilbert series, and Cohen--Macaulay behavior. The computations show that these quotient rings have $2$-linear resolutions, while Cohen--Macaulayness occurs only in the expected degenerate or complete-graph cases.
Depth of edge ideals and vertex connectivity of finite graphs
Let $G$ be a finite graph on $[n]:=\{1, \ldots, n\}$ and $κ(G)$ its vertex connectivity. Let $S=K[x_1, \ldots, x_n]$ denote the polynomial ring in $n$ variables over a field $K$ and $I(G^c)$ the edge ideal of the complementary graph $G^c$ of $G$. It is a classical result that ${\rm depth} S/I(G^c) \leq κ(G) + 1$. We give a sharp lower bound of ${\rm depth} S/I(G^c)$ in terms of $n$ and $κ(G)$. Furthermore, a sharp lower bound of ${\rm depth} S/I(G^c)^2$ as well as that of ${\rm depth} S/I(G^c)^{(2)}$ in terms of $n$ and $κ(G)$ is given.
Combinatorial aspects of normal ordering of 3-dimensional skew polynomial rings
In this paper, we discuss combinatorial aspects of normal ordering of 3-dimensional skew polynomial rings defined and classified by Bell and Smith \cite{BellSmith1990}. With some help of the Mathematical software \texttt{SageMath}, we are able to reduce the length of computation of PBW forms and normal orderings appearing in commutation rules of these algebras.
