An exceptional equinumerosity of lattice paths and Young tableaux
We consider families $\mathcal{P}_n$ of plane lattice paths enumerated by Guy, Krattenthaler, and Sagan (1992). We show by explicit bijection that these families are equinumerous with the set $\mathrm{SYT}(n+2,2,1^n)$ of standard Young tableaux.
Connections Between Frames with Rational Eigensteps and Semistandard Young Tableaux
In this paper, we explore a correspondence between frames with rational eigensteps and semistandard Young tableaux (SSYT), via the relation assigning a Gelfand-Tsetlin pattern to a frame via the frame's eigensteps. We will identify how certain key structures in SSYTs correlate with particular frame properties. For example, the weight of an SSYT yields the sequence of norms of any compatible frame. Additionally, this correspondence leads to a novel way to construct the eigensteps of a frame coming solely from tableaux. This is an alternative to the Top Kill algorithm which may be viewed as a combinatorial reinterpretation of the algorithm. We further employ other combinatorial techniques such as the boxcomp method to generate a ``complement" SSYT. On the frame side, this corresponds to a tight frame's Naimark complement as well as to a generalization of the Naimark complement for non-tight frames. Further research points to an analysis of equiangular tight frames and their corresponding tableaux, as well as using more combinatorial operations to further analyze frames.
The Schützenberger involution and colored lattice models
Colored lattice models can be used to describe many different types of special functions of interest in both algebraic combinatorics and representation theory, for example Schur polynomials, nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials, and characters and Whittaker functions for representations of p-adic groups. A notable example is the metaplectic ice model of which there are actually two different variants: a Gamma and a Delta variant. These variants differ in key aspects but surprisingly produce equal partition functions, which are weighted sums over admissible configurations, and this equality is called the Gamma-Delta duality. The duality was used to prove the analytic continuation of certain multiple Dirichlet series and is highly non-trivial, especially since the number of configurations on each side of the equality can differ.
In this paper we construct a new family of solvable, colored lattice models and prove that they are dual to existing lattice models in the literature, including the above metaplectic case and the lattice model for (non-metaplectic) Iwahori Whittaker functions together with its crystal limit for Demazure atoms for Cartan type A. The equality of partition functions is shown using Yang-Baxter equations involving R-matrices mixing lattice model rows of types Gamma and Delta.
For the crystal Demazure lattice model we show that the duality refines to a weight-respecting bijection of states given by the Schützenberger involution on the associated Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns or semistandard Young tableaux. We also show how the individual steps exchanging two rows in the proof of the duality for the partition functions refines to Berenstein-Kirillov, or Bender-Knuth involutions.

We show that a ratio of Schur polynomials $s_λ/s_ρ$ associated to partitions $λ$ and $ρ$ such that $λ\subsetneqρ$ has a negative partial derivative at any point where all variables are positive. This is accomplished by establishing an injective map between sets of pairs of skew semistandard Young tableaux that preserves the product of the corresponding monomials. We use this result and the description of the first Laurent coefficient of the Hilbert series of the graded algebra of regular functions on a linear symplectic quotient by the circle to demonstrate that many such symplectic quotients are not graded regularly diffeomorphic. In addition, we give an upper bound for this Laurent coefficient in terms of the largest two weights of the circle representation and demonstrate that all but finitely many circle symplectic quotients of each dimension are not graded regularly diffeomorphic to linear symplectic quotients by $\operatorname{SU}_2$.
The chromatic symmetric function of graphs glued at a single vertex

We describe how the chromatic symmetric function of two graphs glued at a single vertex can be expressed as a matrix multiplication using certain information of the two individual graphs. We then prove new $e$-positivity results by using a connection between forest triples, defined by the first author, and Hikita's probabilities associated to standard Young tableaux. Specifically, we prove that gluing a sequence of unit interval graphs and cycles results in an $e$-positive graph. We also prove $e$-positivity for a graph obtained by gluing the first and last vertices of such a sequence. This generalizes $e$-positivity of cycle-chord graphs and supports Ellzey's conjectured $e$-positivity for proper circular arc digraphs.
Local algorithms for coplactic switching and evacuation of Young tableaux
Tableau switching is a well studied bijection on pairs of skew Young tableaux which swaps their relative positions. This is achieved by successively sliding the entries of the inner tableaux through the outer one via jeu de taquin (JDT) slides. Tableau coswitching is a similar but coplactic operation, meaning it commutes with any sequence of JDT slides. Coswitching is defined by first performing JDT rectification on the union of the tableaux, switching the resulting pair, then unrectifying the union. This definition requires us to perform large scale modifications to the skew shapes during the rectification and unrectification steps, which is both computationally taxing and obscures the effect of coswitching on the pair of skew tableaux. In previous work, Gillespie and Levinson define an algorithm which computes coswitching as a sequence of local moves, which do not alter the skew shapes of the tableaux, when one of the tableaux is a single box.
In this paper, we extend the results of Gillespie and Levinson (and Gillespie, Levinson, and Purbhoo for type B) to the case the two skew tableaux are of arbitrary size. We also describe multiple bijections on tableaux, each descending to the evacuation shuffling (esh) operation on pairs of dual equivalence classes. We show how special cases of our local algorithm compute the Schützenberger involution on skew tableaux, as well as the wall-crossing and monodromy of certain covering spaces of the moduli space $\overline{M}_{0, r}(\mathbb{R})$.
The major index (maj) and its Schützenberger dual
We construct the independent particle representation for the Semistandard Young Tableaux (SsYT) of skew shape $λ/μ.$ The partition function of this particle system gives the generating function of the SsYT of skew shape $λ/μ.$ Thus we obtain a bijective proof of the Stanley formula for the SsYT generating function.
To do this we define for every SsYT $T$ its plinth, $\mathsf{p}\left( T\right) ,$ which is a SsYT of the same shape $λ/μ.$ The set of plinths is finite. Our bijection associates to every SsYT $T$ a pair $\left( \mathsf{p}\left( T\right) ,Y\left( T-\mathsf{p}\left( T\right) \right) \right) ,$ where $Y\left( T-\mathsf{p}\left( T\right) \right) $ is the reading Young diagram of the SsYT $\left( T-\mathsf{p}\left( T\right) \right) $. \newline In particular, every Standard Young Tableau (SYT) $P$ has its plinth, $\mathsf{p}\left( P\right) $. The two statistics of SYT-s -- the volume $\left\vert \mathsf{p}\left( P\right) \right\vert $ and $\mathsf{maj}\left( P\right) $ -- are related via the Schützenberger involution $Sch:$% \[ \left\vert \mathsf{p}\left( P\right) \right\vert =\mathsf{maj}\left( Sch\left( P\right) \right) . \]
Classification of irreducible $\mathfrak{u}$-diagonalizable $H_{\ell,n}$-modules
We give a classification for the irreducible $\mathfrak{u}$-diagonalizable representations of the degenerate affine Hecke algebra of type $G(\ell,1,n)$. Precisely we show that such $H_{\ell,n}$-modules are indexed by $\ell$-skew shapes and that the representation indexed by a skew shape $D$ has a basis of eigenvectors indexed by standard Young tableaux of shape $D$.
Blocking Ideals: a method for filtering linear extensions of a finite poset
The standard notion of poset probability of a finite poset P involves calculating, for incomparable $α$, $β$ in P, the number of linear extensions of P for which $α$ precedes $β$. The fraction of those linear extensions among all linear extensions of P is the probability that $α< β$. The question of whether there is always a pair $α, β$ such that this probability lies between 1/3 and 2/3, in any poset P (that is not a chain) is the famous "1/3-2/3-conjecture".
A general way of counting linear extensions of P for which $α$ precedes $β$ is to count linear extensions of the poset obtained by adding the relation $(α,β)$, and its transitive consequences.
For chain-products, and more generally for partition posets, lattice-path methods can be used to count the number of those linear extensions.
We present an alternative approach to find the pertinent linear extensions. It relies on finding the "blocking ideals" in $J(P)$, where $J(P)$ is the lattice of order ideals in P. This method works for all finite posets.
We illustrate this method by using blocking ideals to find explicit formulas of poset probabilities in cell posets $P_λ$ of two-row partitions. Well-known formulae such as the hook-length formula for $f^λ$, the number of standard Young tableaux on a partition $λ$, and the corresponding determinental formula by Jacobi-Trudi-Aitken for $f^{λ/ μ}$, the number of standard Young tableaux on a skew partition $λ/ μ$, are used along the way.
We also calculate the limit probabilities when the elements $α,β$ are fixed cells, but the arm-lengths tend to infinity.
Symmetry of ascent and descent distributions on rectangular and staircase tableaux
We give direct bijective proofs of the symmetry of the distributions of the number of ascents and descents over standard Young tableaux of shape $λ$, where $λ$ is a rectangle $(n,n,\dots,n)$ or a truncated staircase $(n,n-1,\dots,n-k+1)$. These can be viewed as instances of the more general symmetry of the distribution of descents over linear extensions of graded posets, for which previous proofs by Stanley and Farley were based on the theory of $P$-partitions and the involution principle, respectively. In the case of two-row rectangles $(n,n)$, our bijection is equivalent to the Lalanne--Kreweras involution on Dyck paths, which bijectively proves the symmetry of the Narayana numbers.
Our bijections are defined in terms of certain arrow encodings of standard Young tableaux. This setup allows us to construct other statistic-preserving involutions on tableaux of rectangular shape, providing a simple proof of the fact that ascents and descents are equidistributed up to a shift, and proving a conjecture of Sulanke about certain statistics in the case of three rows. Finally, we use our bijections to define a possible notion of rowmotion on standard Young tableaux of rectangular shape, and to give a bijective proof of the symmetry of the number of descents on canon permutations, which have been recently studied as a variation of Stirling and quasi-Stirling permutations.
Lusztig $q$-weight multiplicities and Kirillov-Reshetikhin crystals
Lusztig $q$-weight multiplicities extend the Kostka-Foulkes polynomials to a broader range of Lie types. In this work, we investigate these multiplicities through the framework of Kirillov-Reshetikhin crystals. Specifically, for type $C$ with dominant weights and type $B$ with dominant spin weights, we present a combinatorial formula for Lusztig $q$-weight multiplicities in terms of energy functions of Kirillov-Reshetikhin crystals, generalizing the charge statistic on semistandard Young tableaux for type $A$. Additionally, we introduce level-restricted $q$-weight multiplicities for nonexceptional types, and prove positivity by providing their combinatorial formulas.
On Minimal Polynomials of Elements in Symmetric and Alternating Groups
Let $ (ρ, V) $ be an irreducible representation of the symmetric group $ S_n$ (or the alternating group $ A_n$), and let $ g $ be a permutation on $n$ letters with each of its cycle lengths divides the length of its largest cycle. We describe completely the minimal polynomial of $ρ(g)$, showing that, in most cases, it equals $x^{o(g)} - 1 $, with a few explicit exceptions. As a by-product, we obtain a new proof (using only combinatorics and representation theory) of a theorem of Swanson that gives a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a standard Young tableau of a given shape and major index $r \ \text{mod} \ n$, for all $r$. Thereby, we give a new proof of a celebrated result of Klyachko on Lie elements in a tensor algebra, and of a conjecture of Sundaram on the existence of an invariant vector for $n$-cycles. We also show that for elements $g$ in $S_n$ or $A_n$ of even order, in most cases, $ρ(g)$ has eigenvalue $-1$, with a few explicit exceptions.
Robinson-Schensted shapes arising from cycle decompositions

In the symmetric group $S_n$, each element $σ$ has an associated cycle type $α$, a partition of $n$ that identifies the conjugacy class of $σ$. The Robinson-Schensted (RS) correspondence links each $σ$ to another partition $λ$ of $n$, representing the shape of the pair of Young tableaux produced by applying the RS row-insertion algorithm to $σ$. Surprisingly, the relationship between these two partitions, namely the cycle type $α$ and the RS shape $λ$, has only recently become a subject of study. In this work, we explicitly describe the set of RS shapes $λ$ that can arise from elements of each cycle type $α$ in cases where $α$ consists of two cycles. To do this, we introduce the notion of an $α$-coloring, where one colors the entries in a certain tableau of shape $λ$, in such a way as to construct a permutation $σ$ with cycle type $α$ and RS shape $λ$.
Humps in Motzkin paths and standard Young tableaux in a $(2,1)$-hook
We calculate the number of humps and peaks in Motzkin paths with a given height, and calculate the number of standard Young tableaux (SYTs) in a $(2,1)$-hook with the difference of the first two parts fixed, which refine Regev's results in 2009. We also give new combinatorial proofs of Regev's results, and reveal some new recurrence relations related to humps, free Motzkin paths and SYTs.
BiSC: An algorithm for discovering generalized permutation patterns
Theorems relating permutations with objects in other fields of mathematics are often stated in terms of avoided patterns. Examples include various classes of Schubert varieties from algebraic geometry (Billey and Abe 2013), commuting functions in analysis (Baxter 1964), beta-shifts in dynamical systems (Elizalde 2011) and homology of representations (Sundaram 1994). We present a new algorithm, BiSC, that, given any set of permutations, outputs a conjecture for describing the set in terms of avoided patterns. The algorithm automatically conjectures the statements of known theorems such as the descriptions of smooth (Lakshmibai and Sandhya 1990) and forest-like permutations (Bousquet-M{é}lou and Butler 2007), Baxter permutations (Chung et al. 1978), stack-sortable (Knuth 1975) and West-2-stack-sortable permutations (West 1990). The algorithm has also been used to discover new theorems and conjectures related to the dihedral and alternating subgroups of the symmetric group, Young tableaux, Wilf-equivalences, and sorting devices.
A universal characterization of the shifted plactic monoid

The plactic monoid $\mathbf{P}$ of Lascoux and Schützenberger (1981) plays an important role in proofs of the Littlewood-Richardson rule for computing multiplicities in the linear representation theory of the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ and the cohomology of Grassmannians. Commonly, $\mathbf{P}$ is defined as a quotient of a free monoid by relations derived from a careful analysis of Schensted's insertion algorithm and the jeu de taquin algorithm on semistandard Young tableaux. However, Lascoux and Schützenberger also gave an intrinsic characterization of $\mathbf{P}$ via a universal property.
Serrano's (2010) shifted plactic monoid $\mathbf{S}$ is an analogue of $\mathbf{P}$ that governs instead the projective representation theory of $\mathfrak{S}_n$ and the cohomology of isotropic Grassmannians. We provide a universal property for $\mathbf{S}$, analogous to the Lascoux-Schützenberger characterization of $\mathbf{P}$.

The Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence (RSK) is a bijection between nonnegative integer matrices and pairs of Young tableaux. We study it as a linear operator on the coordinate ring of matrices, proving results about its diagonalizability, eigenvalues, trace, and determinant. Our criterion for diagonalizability involves the $ADE$ classification of Dynkin diagrams, as well as the diagram for $E_9$.
Hook-valued tableau uncrowding and tableau switching

Refined canonical stable Grothendieck polynomials were introduced by Hwang, Jang, Kim, Song, and Song. There exist two combinatorial models for these polynomials: one using hook-valued tableaux and the other using pairs of a semistandard Young tableau and (what we call) an exquisite tableau. An uncrowding algorithm on hook-valued tableaux was introduced by Pan, Pappe, Poh, and Schilling. In this paper, we discover a novel connection between the two models via the uncrowding and Goulden--Greene's jeu de taquin algorithms, using a classical result of Benkart, Sottile, and Stroomer on tableau switching. This connection reveals a symmetry of the uncrowding algorithm defined on hook-valued tableaux. As a corollary, we obtain another combinatorial model for the refined canonical stable Grothendieck polynomials in terms of biflagged tableaux, which naturally appear in the characterization of the image of the uncrowding map.

Given a partition $λ$ of a number $k$, it is known that by adding a long line of length $n-k$, the dimension of the associated representation of $S_{n}$ is an integer-valued polynomial of degree $k$ in $n$. We show that its expansion in the binomial basis is bounded by the length of $λ$, and that the resulting coefficient of index $h$, with alternating signs, counts the standard Young tableaux of shape $λ$ in which a given collection of consecutive $h$ numbers lie in increasing rows. We also construct bijections in order to demonstare explicitly that this number is indeed independent of the set of consecutive $h$ numbers used.

We construct a basis of the Garsia-Procesi ring using the catabolizability type of standard Young tableaux and the charge statistic. This basis turns out to be equal to the descent basis defined in Carlsson-Chou (2024+). Our new construction connects the combinatorics of the basis with the well-known combinatorial formula for the modified Hall-Littlewood polynomials $\tilde{H}_μ[X;q]$, due to Lascoux, which expresses the polynomials as a sum over standard tableaux that satisfy a catabolizability condition. In addition, we prove that identifying a basis for the antisymmetric part of $R_μ$ with respect to a Young subgroup $S_γ$ is equivalent to finding pairs of standard tableaux that satisfy conditions regarding catabolizability and descents. This gives an elementary proof of the fact that the graded Frobenius character of $R_μ$ is given by the catabolizability formula for $\tilde{H}_μ[X;q]$.
