Towards plethystic $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ crystals
To find crystals of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ representations of the form $Λ^n\text{Sym}^r\mathbb{C}^2$ it suffices to solve the combinatorial problem of decomposing Young's lattice into symmetric, saturated chains. We review the literature on this latter problem, and present a strategy to solve it. For $n \le 4$, the strategy recovers recently discovered solutions. We obtain (i) counting formulas for plethystic coefficients, (ii) new recursive formulas for plethysms of Schur functions, and (iii) formulas for the number of constituents of $Λ^n\text{Sym}^r\mathbb{C}^2$.
A Hopf algebra generalization of the symmetric functions in partially commutative variables
The quasisymmetric functions, $QSym$, are generalized for a finite alphabet $A$ by the colored quasisymmetric functions, $QSym_A$, in partially commutative variables. Their dual, $NSym_A$, generalizes the noncommutative symmetric functions, $NSym$, through a relationship with a Hopf algebra of trees. We define an algebra $Sym_A$, contained within $QSym_A$, that is isomorphic to the symmetric functions, $Sym$, when $A$ is an alphabet of size one. We show that $Sym_A$ is a Hopf algebra and define its graded dual, $PSym_A$, which is the commutative image of $NSym_A$ and also generalizes $Sym$. The seven algebras listed here can be placed in a commutative diagram connected by Hopf morphisms. In addition to defining generalizations of the classic bases of the symmetric functions to $Sym_A$ and $PSym_A$, we describe multiplication, comultiplication, and the antipode in terms of a basis for both algebras. We conclude by defining a pair of dual bases that generalize the Schur functions and listing open questions.

We revisit the Rédei-Berge symmetric function $\mathcal{U}_D$ for digraphs $D$, a specialization of Chow's path-cycle symmetric function. Through the lens of matrix algebra, we consolidate and expand on the work of Chow, Grinberg and Stanley, and Lass concerning the resolution of $\mathcal{U}_D$ in the power sum and Schur bases. Along the way we also revisit various results on Hamiltonian paths in digraphs.
Revisiting Foulkes characters of wreath products
The article is concerned with the Foulkes characters of wreath products, which are block characters of wreath products, i.e., the positive-definite class functions depending only on the length of its elements. Inspired by the works of Gnedin--Gorin--Kerov and Miller, we introduce two specializations of the Schur--Weyl--Sergeev duality for wreath products and obtain two families of block characters, which provide a decomposition and an alternative construction of the Foulkes characters of wreath products. In particular, we give alternative proofs on some remarkable properties of the Foulkes characters. Along the way, we show that the Foulkes characters are the extreme rays of the cone of the block characters of wreath products and construct the representations with traces being the Foulkes characters via the coinvariant algebra of wreath products.

We present a library of formalized results around symmetric functions and the character theory of symmetric groups. Written in Coq/Rocq and based on the Mathematical Components library, it covers a large part of the contents of a graduate level textbook in the field. The flagship result is a proof of the Littlewood-Richardson rule, which computes the structure constants of the algebra of symmetric function in the schur basis which are integer numbers appearing in various fields of mathematics, and which has a long history of wrong proofs. A specific feature of algebraic combinatorics is the constant interplay between algorithms and algebraic constructions: algorithms are not only in computations, but also are key ingredients in definitions and proofs. As such, the proof of the Littlewood-Richardson rule deeply relies on the understanding of the execution of the Robinson-Schensted algorithm. Many results in this library are effective and actually used in computer algebra systems, and we discuss their certified implementation.
Exponential Schur and Hindman Theorem in Ramsey Theory
Answering a conjecture of A. Sisto, J. Sahasrabudhe proved the exponential version of the Schur theorem: for every finite coloring of the naturals, there exists a monochromatic copy of $\{x,y,x^y:x\neq y\},$ which initiates the study of exponential Ramsey theory in arithmetic combinatorics. In this article, We first give two short proofs of the exponential Schur theorem, one using Zorn's lemma and another using $IP_r^\star$ van der Waerden's theorem. Then using the polynomial van der Waerden theorem iteratively we give a proof of the exponential Hindman theorem. Then applying our results we prove for every natural number $m,n$ the equation $x_n^{x_{n-1}^{\cdot^{\cdot^{\cdot^{x_1}}}}}=y_1\cdots y_m$ is partition regular, which can be considered as the exponential version of a more general version of the P. Csikvári, K. Gyarmati, and A. Sárközy conjecture, which was solved by V. Bergelson and N. Hindman independently. As a consequence of our results, we also prove that for every finite partition of $\mathbb{N},$ there exists two different sequences $\langle x_n\rangle_n$ and $\langle y_n\rangle_n$ such that both the multiplicative and exponential version of Hindman theorem generated by these sequences resp. are monochromatic, whereas in the counterpart in the finitary case, J. Sahasrabudhe proved that both sequences are the same. Our result can be considered as an exponential analog to the result of V. Bergelson and N. Hindman. We also prove that a large class of ultrafilters with certain properties do not exist, which could give us direct proof of the exponential Schur theorem. This result can be thought of as partial evidence of the nonexistence of Galvin-Glazer's proof of the exponential Hindman theorem.

Rank-metric codes have been a central topic in coding theory due to their theoretical and practical significance, with applications in network coding, distributed storage, crisscross error correction, and post-quantum cryptography. Recent research has focused on constructing new families of rank-metric codes with distinct algebraic structures, emphasizing the importance of invariants for distinguishing these codes from known families and from random ones. In this paper, we introduce a novel geometric invariant for linear rank-metric codes, inspired by the Schur product used in the Hamming metric. By examining the sequence of dimensions of Schur powers of the extended Hamming code associated with a linear code, we demonstrate its ability to differentiate Gabidulin codes from random ones. From a geometric perspective, this approach investigates the vanishing ideal of the linear set corresponding to the rank-metric code.
Quiver presentations and Schur--Weyl duality for Khovanov arc algebras
We provide an ${\rm Ext}$-quiver and relations presentation of the Khovanov arc algebras and prove a precise analogue of the Kleshchev--Martin conjecture in this setting.

The fundamental quasisymmetric functions in superspace are a generalization of the fundamental quasisymmetric functions involving anticommuting variables. We obtain the action of the product, coproduct, and antipode on the fundamental quasisymmetric functions in superspace. We also extend to superspace the well known expansion of the Schur functions in terms of fundamental quasisymmetric functions.

We establish new Murnaghan--Nakayama rules for symplectic, orthogonal and orthosymplectic Schur functions. The classical Murnaghan--Nakayama rule expresses the product of a power sum symmetric function with a Schur function as a linear combination of Schur functions. Symplectic and orthogonal Schur functions correspond to characters of irreducible representations of symplectic and orthogonal groups. Orthosymplectic Schur functions arise as characters of orthosymplectic Lie superalgebras and are hybrids of symplectic and ordinary Schur functions. We derive explicit formulas for the product of the relevant power-sum function with each of these functions, which can partly be described combinatorially using border strip manipulations. Our Murnaghan--Nakayama rules each include three distinct terms: a classical term corresponding to the addition of border strips to the relevant Young diagram, a term involving the removal of border strips, and a third term, which we describe both algebraically and combinatorially.
Super major index and Thrall's problem

Thrall's problem asks for the Schur decomposition of the higher Lie modules $\mathcal{L}_λ$, which are defined using the free Lie algebra and decompose the tensor algebra as a general linear group module. Although special cases have been solved, Thrall's problem remains open in general. We generalize Thrall's problem to the free Lie superalgebra, and prove extensions of three known results in this setting: Brandt's formula, Klyachko's identification of the Schur--Weyl dual of $\mathcal{L}_n$, and Kr{á}skiewicz--Weyman's formula for the Schur decomposition of $\mathcal{L}_n$. The latter involves a new version of the major index on super tableaux, which we show corresponds to a $q,t$-hook formula of Macdonald.
Cauchy identities for staircase matrices

The celebrated Cauchy identity expresses the product of terms $(1 - x_i y_j)^{-1}$ for $(i,j)$ indexing entries of a rectangular $m\times n$-matrix as a sum over partitions $λ$ of products of Schur polynomials: $s_λ(x)s_λ(y)$. Algebraically, this identity comes from the decomposition of the symmetric algebra of the space of rectangular matrices, considered as a $\mathfrak{gl}_m$-$\mathfrak{gl}_n$-bi-module. We generalize the Cauchy decomposition by replacing rectangular matrices with arbitrary staircase-shaped matrices equipped with the left and right actions of the Borel upper-triangular subalgebras. For any given staircase shape $\mathsf{Y}$ we describe left and right "standard" filtrations on the symmetric algebra of the space of shape $\mathsf{Y}$ matrices. We show that the subquotients of these filtrations are tensor products of Demazure and opposite van der Kallen modules over the Borel subalgebras. On the level of characters, we derive three distinct expansions for the product $(1 - x_i y_j)^{-1}$ for $(i,j) \in \mathsf{Y}$. The first two expansions are sums of products of key polynomials $κ_λ(x)$ and (opposite) Demazure atoms $a^μ(y)$. The third expansion is an alternating sum of products of key polynomials $κ_λ(x)\,κ^μ(y)$.
Optimization Tools for Computing Colorings of $[1,\cdots ,n]$ with Few Monochromatic Solutions on $3$-variable Linear Equations

A famous result in arithmetic Ramsey theory says that for many linear homogeneous equations $E$ there is a threshold value $R_k(E)$ (the Rado number of $E$) such that for any $k$-coloring of the integers in the interval $[1,n]$, with $n \ge R_k(E)$, there exists at least one monochromatic solution. But one can further ask, how many monochromatic solutions is the minimum possible in terms of $n$? Several authors have estimated this function before, here we offer new tools from integer and semidefinite optimization that help find either optimal or near optimal 2-colorings minimizing the number of monochromatic solutions of several families of 3-variable non-regular homogeneous linear equations. In the last part of the paper we further extend to three and more colors for the Schur equation, improving earlier work.

Graham, Rödl, and Ruciński originally posed the problem of determining the minimum number of monochromatic Schur triples that must appear in any 2-coloring of the first $n$ integers. This question was subsequently resolved independently by Datskovsky, Schoen, and Robertson and Zeilberger. Here we suggest studying a natural anti-Ramsey variant of this question and establish the first non-trivial bounds by proving that the maximum fraction of Schur triples that can be rainbow in a given $3$-coloring of the first $n$ integers is at least $0.4$ and at most $0.66656$. We conjecture the lower bound to be tight. This question is also motivated by a famous analogous problem in graph theory due to Erdős and Sós regarding the maximum number of rainbow triangles in any $3$-coloring of $K_n$, which was settled by Balogh et al.
Special values of $K$-theoretic Schur $P$- and $Q$-functions
We provide the special values of the skew version of the $K$-theoretic Schur $P$- and $Q$-functions. Using these special values, we show an oddness property of the number of shifted set-valued skew tableaux. Additionally, we generalize these special values to another skew case. Based on these special values, we give pairs among certain shifted set-valued skew tableaux.
Eigenvalue systems for integer orthogonal bases of multi-matrix invariants at finite N

Multi-matrix invariants, and in particular the scalar multi-trace operators of $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM with $U(N)$ gauge symmetry, can be described using permutation centraliser algebras (PCA), which are generalisations of the symmetric group algebras and independent of $N$. Free-field two-point functions define an $N$-dependent inner product on the PCA, and bases of operators have been constructed which are orthogonal at finite $N$. Two such bases are well-known, the restricted Schur and covariant bases, and both definitions involve representation-theoretic quantities such as Young diagram labels, multiplicity labels, branching and Clebsch-Gordan coefficients for symmetric groups. The explicit computation of these coefficients grows rapidly in complexity as the operator length increases. We develop a new method for explicitly constructing all the operators with specified Young diagram labels, based on an $N$-independent integer eigensystem formulated in the PCA. The eigensystem construction naturally leads to orthogonal basis elements which are integer linear combinations of the multi-trace operators, and the $N$-dependence of their norms are simple known dimension factors. We provide examples and give computer codes in SageMath which efficiently implement the construction for operators of classical dimension up to 14. While the restricted Schur basis relies on the Artin-Wedderburn decomposition of symmetric group algebras, the covariant basis relies on a variant which we refer to as the Kronecker decomposition. Analogous decompositions exist for any finite group algebra and the eigenvalue construction of integer orthogonal bases extends to the group algebra of any finite group with rational characters.
Hall-Littlewood polynomials, affine Schubert series, and lattice enumeration
We introduce multivariate rational generating series called Hall-Littlewood-Schubert ($\mathsf{HLS}_n$) series. They are defined in terms of polynomials related to Hall-Littlewood polynomials and semistandard Young tableaux. We show that $\mathsf{HLS}_n$ series provide solutions to a range of enumeration problems upon judicious substitutions of their variables. These include the problem to enumerate sublattices of a $p$-adic lattice according to the elementary divisor types of their intersections with the members of a complete flag of reference in the ambient lattice. This is an affine analog of the stratification of Grassmannians by Schubert varieties. Other substitutions of $\mathsf{HLS}_n$ series yield new formulae for Hecke series and $p$-adic integrals associated with symplectic $p$-adic groups, and combinatorially defined quiver representation zeta functions. $\mathsf{HLS}_n$ series are $q$-analogs of Hilbert series of Stanley-Reisner rings associated with posets arising from parabolic quotients of Coxeter groups of type $\mathsf{B}$ with the Bruhat order. Special values of coarsened $\mathsf{HLS}_n$ series yield analogs of the classical Littlewood identity for the generating functions of Schur polynomials.

It is conjectured (following the Stanley-Stembridge conjecture) that the cohomology rings of regular semisimple Hessenberg varieties yield permutation representations, but the decompositions of the modules are only known in some cases. For the Hessenberg function $h=(h(1),n,\ldots,n)$, the structure of the cohomology ring was determined by Abe, Horiguchi, and Masuda in 2017. We define two new bases for this cohomology ring, one of which is a higher Specht basis, and the other of which is a permutation basis. We also examine the transpose Hessenberg variety, indexed by the Hessenberg function $h' = ((n-1)^{n-m},n^m)$, and show that analogous results hold. Further, we give combinatorial bijections between the monomials in the new basis and sets of $P$-tableaux, motivated by the work of Gasharov, illustrating the connections between the $\mathfrak{S}_n$ action on these cohomology rings and the Schur expansion of chromatic symmetric functions.
Factorial Fock free fermions
We use a double shifted power analog of free fermion fields to introduce current operators, Hamiltonians, and vertex operators which are deformed by two families of parameters and satisfy analogous formulas to the classical case. We show that the deformed half vertex operators correspond to the row transfer matrices of a solvable six vertex model recently given by Naprienko [arXiv:2301.12110], which under a specialization yields the factorial Schur functions (up to a reindexing of parameters). As a consequence, we show that under the boson-fermion correspondence using our deformed half vertex operators, the natural basis (under this specialization) maps to the double factorial Schur functions. Furthermore, the image of the natural basis vectors are tau function solutions to the 2D Toda lattice.
A New Symmetric Function Identity With an Application to symmetric group character values
Symmetric functions show up in several areas of mathematics including enumerative combinatorics and representation theory. Tewodros Amdeberhan conjectures equalities of $Σ_n$ characters sums over a new set called $Ev(λ)$. When investigating the alternating sum of characters for $Ev(λ)$ written in terms of the inner product of Schur functions and power sum symmetric functions, we found an equality between the alternating sum of power sum symmetric polynomials and a product of monomial symmetric polynomials. As a consequence, a special case of an alternating sum of $Σ_n$ characters over the set $Ev(λ)$ equals $0$.
