Symmetries of the q-deformed real projective line
We generalize in two steps the quantized action of the modular group on q-deformed real numbers introduced by Morier-Genoud and Ovsienko. First, we let the projective general linear group PGL(2,Z) act on q-real numbers via a q-deformed action. The deformed matrices we get have combinatorial interpretations, and we show that their traces are palindromic polynomials. Then we consider an extension of the group PGL(2,Z) by the 2-elements cyclic group, and define a deformed action of this extension on q-real numbers. We deduce from these actions some underlying relations between q-real numbers, and between left and right versions of q-deformed rational numbers. In particular we investigate the case of some algebraic numbers of degree 4 and 6. We also prove that the deformation of real numbers is an injective process.
Symmetric group actions on the coordinate ring of the lower unipotent group and the polynomial ring with quantum parameters
Givental-Kim and Ciocan-Fontanine gave an explicit presentation of the quantum cohomology ring of the flag variety. The author and Shirato introduced an algebraic generalization of their presentation in the context of the coordinate rings of regular nilpotent Hessenberg varieties. In particular, they connect the coordinate ring of the lower unipotent group in a general linear group and the polynomial ring with quantum parameters. In this paper we consider the dual of the connection and we see that the Plücker coordinates correspond to the quantizations of Schur polynomials. As an application of the connection, we construct an action of the symmetric group on the polynomial ring with quantum parameters. Using the symmetric group action, one can define the divided difference operators on the polynomial ring with quantum parameters. We study the quantizations of Schubert polynomials in relation to the divided difference operators.
Low-Twist Matrix Covariants of Exterior Powers: Vanishing and Modular Phenomena
We study morphisms from symmetric powers of exterior powers to determinant-twisted endomorphism representations of general linear groups. At the minimal positive determinant twist, we prove vanishing over every field of characteristic different from two: if the exterior degree r >= 3 is odd, the symmetric degree satisfies d >= 3, and the underlying space has dimension rd, then the corresponding equivariant Hom space is zero. The proof uses a block-exchange sign and a universal root-subgroup identity, so it also applies in small odd characteristics without semisimplicity. We then determine the second-twist spaces for trivectors in characteristic zero. In dimension 3m and degree 2m, they are scalar and one-dimensional for m = 2, and zero for m >= 3. Plethystic conjugation reduces the latter vanishing to an elementary weight-support bound for exterior powers of the ten-dimensional space of ternary cubics. Finally, over fields of characteristic zero or odd characteristic, an exact computer-assisted classification in dimension nine gives a one-dimensional scalar Hom space in characteristic five and zero in characteristic zero and in every odd characteristic other than five.
Laurent Symmetric Functions
We describe the ring of Laurent symmetric polynomials in terms of generators and relations, giving an analogue of the Fundamental Theorem of Symmetric Polynomials. We extend the Hall inner product, and give an algebraic proof that the Laurent Schur polynomials form an orthonormal basis of this ring. In the case of infinitely many variables, we realize the ring of Laurent symmetric functions as a direct limit of inverse limits, and relate them to characters of rational and algebraic representations of general linear groups.
The structure of automorphism groups of zero-dimensional monomial algebras
Let $A$ be a zero-dimensional monomial algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, that is, a finite-dimensional quotient of a polynomial ring by a monomial ideal. Its automorphism group $G$ is a linear algebraic group, described through the homogeneous nilpotent derivations of $A$. We analyze the structure of $G$ in detail. Its identity component $G^0$ is a semidirect product of its unipotent radical and a reductive subgroup isomorphic to a product of general linear groups, and for each root degree we characterize when the associated derivations give rise to an additive root subgroup, and determine its dimension. Using the Lie brackets of these derivations, we then give an explicit algorithm that produces, out of the minimal monomial generators of the ideal, a family of root subgroups generating $G^0$ together with a maximal torus. Such a family is minimal in the generic case. We also show that the component group $G/G^0$ can be arbitrary: every finite group arises as the component group of the automorphism group of some zero-dimensional monomial algebra. Finally, we apply these results to the algebras $\mathbf{k}[\mathbf{x}]/\mathfrak{m}^d$, showing that the subgroup generated by a maximal torus and the outer root subgroups is exactly the subgroup of automorphisms with constant Jacobian determinant, and we deduce from this a new proof of Anick's theorem on the density of the tame automorphisms of $\mathbf{k}[\mathbf{x}]$.
Enumerating cores of charged multipartitions
Granville and Ono proved that there is an $e$-core partition of $n$ for every $n\in\mathbb{N}$ if and only if $e\geq 4$, which translates to a statement about the existence of defect $0$ blocks for symmetric groups in positive characteristic and defect $0$ unipotent blocks of finite general linear groups in positive, non-defining characteristic. Motivated by analogous applications to the block theory of finite classical groups, imprimitive spetses, and cyclotomic Hecke algebras, we prove similar positivity statements about different variants of $e$-cores for charged multipartitions.
Orbits on a product of two flags and a line and the Bruhat order, II
Let $G=GL(n)$ be the $n\times n$ complex general linear group and let $\B_{n}$ be its flag variety. A Borel subgroup $B$ of $G$ acts on $\B_{n}\times \mathbb{P}^{n-1}$ diagonally with finitely many orbits. In this paper, we give an embedding of the $B$-orbits on $\B_{n}\times \mathbb{P}^{n-1}$ into the $B$-orbits on the flag variety $\B_{n+1}$ of $GL(n+1)$ and show that this correspondence respects closure relations and preserves monoid actions. As a consequence both closure relations and monoid actions on the set of all $B$-orbits on $\B_{n}\times\mathbb{P}^{n-1}$ can be understood via the Bruhat order on the symmetric group on $n+1$ letters by using our results in \cite{Shpairs}. This amplifies work of Magyar \cite{Magyar} by making the closure relation more transparent and allows us to compute the monoid action using Demazure products. If $S_i$ is the stabilizer in $B$ of the line through the ith standard basis vector, we give an embedding of the $S_i$-orbits on $\B_n$ into the $B$-orbits in a single $G$-orbit in $\B_{n+1},$ and this embedding plays an essential role in the above results. We extend results from our papers \cite{CE21I}, \cite{CE21II}, and \cite{Shpairs}, and in particular show that for $S_i$-orbits on $\B_n,$ the closure ordering is given by the Richardson-Springer standard order.
Superspace coinvariants and inverse systems for $GL_n(\mathbb{F}_q)$
Let $q$ be a prime power and write $Ω$ for the bigraded algebra of regular differential forms over $\mathbb{F}_q^n$. The general linear group $GL_n(\mathbb{F}_q)$ acts on $Ω$; write $SI \subseteq Ω$ for the ideal generated by $GL_n(\mathbb{F}_q)$-invariants with vanishing constant term. The {\em $GL_n(\mathbb{F}_q)$-superspace coinvariant ring} is the quotient $SR := Ω/SI$. We calculate the bigraded Hilbert series of $SR$ and give an operator-theoretic characterization of the inverse system $SI^\perp$. Our results extend to subgroups $G$ of $GL_n(\mathbb{F}_q)$ which contain $SL_n(\mathbb{F}_q)$.
Triprojective almost perfect nonlinear permutations and functions
We give a large family of almost perfect nonlinear (APN) permutations of finite vector spaces of every odd dimension divisible by three. We also give APN functions that are not bijective on even dimensions and related highly nonlinear functions. The functions we provide admit a so-called triprojective structure induced by the general linear group $\mathrm{GL}(3,2^m)$.
Multisymmetric functions on eventually constant cyclic graphs
The study of spanning trees and related structures is central in graph theory, closely connected to understanding functions between finite sets. This paper generalizes the established relationship between rooted trees and eventually constant endomorphisms to a wider context including $k$-tuples of functions among $k$ disjoint vertex sets. We derive a weighted count of eventually constant $k$-tuples, which are characterized by their stabilization to constancy upon iterated composition. This construction is the set-theoretic analogue of the nilpotent cone and offers new insight into the combinatorial structure of cyclic digraphs. By identifying these $k$-tuples with their induced digraphs, we construct explicit formulas for their generating polynomials and analyze the cardinality of the set of eventually constant $k$-tuples. These polynomials are multisymmetric in $k$ sets of variables and can be re-expressed as the character of a representation of the product of general linear groups. We extend the ideas to the more general structures of eventually $N$-cyclic and $λ$-cyclic $k$-tuples, which we define and provide similar theorems for their generating functions and cardinality.
The symplectic left companion of a Littlewood-Richardson-Sundaram tableau and the Kwon property
As a consequence of the Littlewood-Richardson (LR) commuters coincidence and the Kumar-Torres branching model via Kushwaha-Raghavan-Viswanath flagged hives, we have solved the Lecouvey-Lenart conjecture on the bijections between the Kwon and Sundaram
branching models for the pair $({GL}_{2n}(\mathbb{C}), {Sp}_{2n}(\mathbb{C})) $ consisting of the general linear group ${GL}_{2n}(\mathbb{C})$ and the symplectic group ${Sp}_{2n}(\mathbb{C})$. In particular, thanks to the Henriques-Kamnitzer $gl_n$-crystal commuter, we have recognized that the left companion of an LR-Sundaram tableau is characterized by the Kwon symplectic condition. We now show that the construction of the left companion tableau of an LR-Sundaram tableau exhibits in fact the Kwon symplectic property.
Pieri rule for classical groups, a new perspective
We study a new perspective on a certain Pieri rules for classical groups. Furthermore, we extend a fundamental theorem of Kostant concerning tensor products for classical groups. We show that a certain form of the Pieri rule is equivalent to the converse of this extended version of Kostant's theorem. In addition, we show an equivalence between the Pieri rule and the branching rule for general linear groups.
Power maps on General Linear groups over finite principal ideal local rings of length two
Word maps have been studied for matrix groups over a field. We initiate the study of problems related to word maps in the context of the group $\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathscr O_2)$, where $\mathscr O_2$ is a finite local principal ideal ring of length two (e.g. $\mathbb{Z}/p^2\mathbb{Z}$ and $\mathbb F_q[t]/\langle t^2\rangle$). We study the power map $g\mapsto g^L$, where $L$ is a positive integer. We consider $L$ to be coprime to $p$ (an odd prime), the characteristic of the residue field $k$ of $\mathscr O_2$. We classify all the elements in the image, whose mod-$\mathfrak m$ reduction in $\mathrm{GL}_n(k)$ are either regular semisimple or cyclic, where $\mathfrak m$ is the unique maximal ideal of $\mathscr O_2$. Our main tool is a Hensel lifting for polynomial equations over $\mathrm{M}_n(\mathscr O_2)$, which we establish in this work.
A central contribution of this work is the construction of canonical forms for certain natural classes of matrices over $\mathscr O_2$. As applications, we derive explicit generating functions for the probabilities that a random element of $\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathscr O_2)$ is regular semisimple, $L$-power regular semisimple, compatible cyclic, or $L$-power compatible cyclic.

Let $q$ be a fixed odd prime. We show that a finite subset $B$ of integers, not containing any perfect $q^{th}$ power, contains a $q^{th}$ power modulo almost every prime if and only if $B$ corresponds to a blocking set (with respect to hyperplanes) in $\mathrm{PG}(\mathbb{F}_{q}^{k})$. Here, $k$ is the number of distinct prime divisors of $q$-free parts of elements of $B$. As a consequence, the property of a subset $B$ to contain $q^{th}$ power modulo almost every prime $p$ is invariant under geometric $q$-equivalence defined by an element of the projective general linear group $\mathrm{PGL}(\mathbb{F}_{q}^{k})$. Employing this connection between two disparate branches of mathematics, Galois geometry and number theory, we classify, and provide bounds on the sizes of, minimal such sets $B$.

Double cosets appear in many contexts in combinatorics, for example in the enumeration of certain objects up to symmetries. Double cosets in a quotient of the form $H\backslash G / H$ have an inverse, and can be their own inverse. In this paper we present various formulas enumerating double cosets, and in particular self-inverse double cosets. We study double cosets in classical groups, especially the symmetric groups and the general linear groups, explaining how to obtain the informations on their conjugacy classes required to apply our formulas. We also consider double cosets of parabolic subgroups of Coxeter groups of type B.
Two stability theorems on plethysms of Schur functions
The plethysm product of Schur functions corresponds to composing polynomial representations of infinite general linear groups. Finding the plethysm coefficients $\langle s_ν\circ s_μ, s_λ\rangle$ that express an arbitrary plethysm $s_ν\circ s_μ$ as a sum $\sum_λ\langle s_ν\circ s_μ, s_λ\rangle s_λ$ of Schur functions is a fundamental open problem in algebraic combinatorics. We prove two stability theorems for plethysm coefficients under the operations of adding and/or joining an arbitrary partition to either $μ$ or $ν$. In both theorems $μ$ may be replaced with an arbitrary skew partition. As special cases we obtain all stability results on the plethysm product of two Schur functions in the literature to date. The proofs are entirely combinatorial using plethystic semistandard tableaux with positive and negative entries.
Quantum Littlewood correspondences
In the 1940s Littlewood formulated three fundamental correspondences for the immanants and Schur symmetric functions on the general linear group, which establish deep connections between representation theory of the symmetric group and the general linear group parallel to the Schur-Weyl duality. In this paper, we introduce the notion of quantum immanants in the quantum coordinate algebra using primitive idempotents of the Hecke algebra. By employing $R$-matrix techniques, we establish the quantum analog of Littlewood correspondences between quantum immanants and Schur functions for the quantum coordinate algebra. In the setting of the Schur-Weyl-Jimbo duality, we construct an exact correspondence between the Gelfand-Tsetlin bases of the irreducible representations of the quantum enveloping algebra $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}(n))$ and Young's orthonormal basis of an irreducible representation of the Hecke algebra $\mathcal H_m$. This isomorphism leads to our trace formula for the quantum immanants, which settled the generalization problem
of $q$-analog of Kostant's formular for $λ$-immanants. As applications, we also derive general $q$-Littlewood-Merris-Watkins identities and $q$-Goulden-Jackson identities as special cases of the quantum Littlewood correspondence III.

We consider the problem of counting matrices over a finite field with fixed rank and support contained in a fixed set. The count of such matrices gives a $q$-analogue of the classical rook and hit numbers, known as the $q$-rook and $q$-hit numbers. They are known not to be polynomial in $q$ in general. We use inclusion-exclusion on the support of the matrices and the orbit counting method of Lewis et al. to show that the residues of these functions in low degrees are polynomial. We define a generalization of the classical rook and hit numbers which count placements of certain classes of graphs. These give us a formula for residues of the $q$-rook and $q$-hit numbers in low degrees. We analyze the residues of the $q$-hit number and show that the coefficient of $q-1$ in the $q$-hit number is always non-negative.

Let $G=GL(n)$ be the $n\times n$ complex general linear group and let $\mathcal{B}_{n}$ be its flag variety. The standard Borel subgroup $B$ of upper triangular matrices acts on the product $\mathcal{B}_{n}\times \mathbb{P}^{n-1}$ with finitely many orbits. In this paper, we study the $B$-orbits on the subvarieties $\mathcal{B}_{n}\times \mathcal{O}_{i}$, where $\mathcal{O}_{i}$ is the $B$-orbit on $\mathbb{P}^{n-1}$ containing the line through the origin in the direction of the $i$-th standard basis vector of $\mathbb{C}^{n}$. For each $i=1,\dots, n$, we construct a bijection between $B$-orbits on $\mathcal{B}_{n}\times\mathcal{O}_{i}$ and certain pairs of Schubert cells in $\mathcal{B}_{n}\times\mathcal{B}_{n}$. We also show that this bijection can be used to understand the Richardson-Springer monoid action on such $B$-orbits in terms of the classical monoid action of the symmetric group on itself. We also develop combinatorial models of these orbits and use these models to compute exponential generating functions for the sequences $\{|B\backslash(\mathcal{B}_{n}\times\mathcal{O}_{i})|\}_{n\geq 1}$ and $\{|B\backslash (\mathcal{B}_{n}\times \mathbb{P}^{n-1})|\}_{n\geq 1}$. In the sequel to this paper, we use the results of this paper to construct a correspondence between $B$-orbits on $\mathcal{B}_{n}\times\mathbb{P}^{n-1}$ and a collection of $B$-orbits on the flag variety $\mathcal{B}_{n+1}$ of $GL(n+1)$ and show that this correspondence respects closures relations and preserves monoid actions. As a consequence both closure relations and monoid actions for all $B$-orbits on $\mathcal{B}_{n}\times\mathbb{P}^{n-1}$ can be understood via the Bruhat order by using our results in [CE].

We focus on two aspects of cyclic orbit codes: invariants under equivalence and quasi-optimality. Regarding the first aspect, we establish a connection between the codewords of a cyclic orbit code and a certain linear set on the projective line. This allows us to derive new bounds on the parameters of the code. In the second part, we study a particular family of (quasi-)optimal cyclic orbit codes and derive a general existence theorem for quasi-optimal codes in even-dimensional vector spaces over finite fields of any characteristic. Finally, for our particular code family we describe the automorphism groups under the general linear group and a suitable Galois group.
