We extend the work of Hanlon on the chromatic polynomial of an unlabeled graph to define the unlabeled chromatic polynomial of an unlabeled signed graph. Explicit formulas are presented for labeled and unlabeled signed chromatic polynomials as summations over distinguished order-ideals of the signed partition lattice. We also define the quotient of a signed graph by a signed permutation, and show that its signed graphic arrangement is closely related to an induced arrangement on a distinguished subspace. Lastly, a formula for the number of unlabeled acyclic orientations of a signed graph is presented which recalls classical reciprocity theorems of Stanley and Zaslavsky.

If $J\subset I$ are two monomials ideals, we give a practical upper bound for the Stanley depth of $J/I$, which we call it the \emph{quasi-depth} of $J/I$. Also, we compute the quasi-depth of several classes of square free monomial ideals. We also study the Stanley depth of the monomial ideal associated of the independent sets of a graph.

Let $ G $ be a simple graph of $ \ell $ vertices $ \{1, \dots, \ell \} $ with edge set $ E_{G} $. The graphical arrangement $ \mathcal{A}_{G} $ consists of hyperplanes $ \{x_{i}-x_{j}=0\} $, where $ \{i, j \} \in E_{G} $. It is well known that three properties, chordality of $ G $, supersolvability of $ \mathcal{A}_{G} $, and freeness of $ \mathcal{A}_{G} $ are equivalent. Recently, Richard P. Stanley introduced $ ψ$-graphical arrangement $ \mathcal{A}_{G, ψ} $ as a generalization of graphical arrangements. Lili Mu and Stanley characterized the supersolvability of the $ ψ$-graphical arrangements and conjectured that the freeness and the supersolvability of $ ψ$-graphical arrangements are equivalent. In this paper, we will prove the conjecture.

We characterize the tournaments that are dominance graphs of sets of (unfair) coins in which each coin displays its larger side with greater probability. The class of these tournaments coincides with the class of tournaments whose vertices can be numbered in a way that makes them semiacyclic, as defined by Postnikov and Stanley. We provide an example of a tournament on nine vertices that can not be made semiacyclic, yet it may be represented as a dominance graph of coins, if we also allow coins that display their smaller side with greater probability. We conclude with an example of a tournament with $81$ vertices that is not the dominance graph of any system of coins.
Partially magic labelings and the Antimagic Graph Conjecture

The Antimagic Graph Conjecture asserts that every connected graph $G = (V, E)$ except $K_2$ admits an edge labeling such that each label $1, 2, \dots, |E|$ is used exactly once and the sums of the labels on all edges incident to a given vertex are distinct. On the other extreme, an edge labeling is magic if the sums of the labels on all edges incident to each vertex are the same. In this paper we approach antimagic labelings by introducing partially magic labelings, where "magic occurs'' just in a subset of $V$. We generalize Stanley's theorem about the magic graph labeling counting function to the associated counting function of partially magic labelings and prove that it is a quasi-polynomial of period at most $2$. This allows us to introduce weak antimagic labelings (for which repetition is allowed), and we show that every bipartite graph satisfies a weakened version of the Antimagic Graph Conjecture.
Difference operators for partitions under the Littlewood decomposition

The concept of $t$-difference operator for functions of partitions is introduced to prove a generalization of Stanley's theorem on polynomiality of Plancherel averages of symmetric functions related to contents and hook lengths. Our extension uses a generalization of the notion of Plancherel measure, based on walks in the Young lattice with steps given by the addition of $t$-hooks. It is well-known that the hook lengths of multiples of $t$ can be characterized by the Littlewood decomposition. Our study gives some further information on the contents and hook lengths of other congruence classes modulo $t$.

Motivated by a 1993 conjecture of Stanley and Stembridge, Shareshian and Wachs conjectured that the characteristic map takes the dot action of the symmetric group on the cohomology of a regular semisimple Hessenberg variety to $ωX_G(t)$, where $X_G(t)$ is the chromatic quasisymmetric function of the incomparability graph $G$ of the corresponding natural unit interval order, and $ω$ is the usual involution on symmetric functions. We prove the Shareshian--Wachs conjecture. Our proof uses the local invariant cycle theorem of Beilinson-Bernstein-Deligne to obtain a surjection from the cohomology of a regular Hessenberg variety of Jordan type $λ$ to a space of local invariant cycles; as $λ$ ranges over all partitions, these spaces collectively contain all the information about the dot action on a regular semisimple Hessenberg variety. Using a palindromicity argument, we show that in our case the surjections are actually isomorphisms, thus reducing the Shareshian-Wachs conjecture to computing the cohomology of a regular Hessenberg variety. But this cohomology has already been described combinatorially by Tymoczko; we give a bijective proof (using a generalization of a combinatorial reciprocity theorem of Chow) that Tymoczko's combinatorial description coincides with the combinatorics of the chromatic quasisymmetric function.

In 1977 Stanley proved that the $h$-vector of a matroid is an $\mathcal{O}$-sequence and conjectured that it is a pure $\mathcal{O}$-sequence. In the subsequent years the validity of this conjecture has been shown for a variety of classes of matroids, though the general case is still open. In this paper we use Las Vergnas' internal order to introduce a new class of matroids which we call internally perfect. We prove that these matroids satisfy Stanley's Conjecture and compare them to other classes of matroids for which the conjecture is known to hold. We also prove that, up to a certain restriction on deletions, every minor of an internally perfect ordered matroid is internally perfect.
On flow polytopes, order polytopes, and certain faces of the alternating sign matrix polytope
In this paper we study an alternating sign matrix analogue of the Chan-Robbins-Yuen polytope, which we call the ASM-CRY polytope. We show that this polytope has Catalan many vertices and its volume is equal to the number of standard Young tableaux of staircase shape; we also determine its Ehrhart polynomial. We achieve the previous by proving that the members of a family of faces of the alternating sign matrix polytope which includes ASM-CRY are both order and flow polytopes. Inspired by the above results, we relate three established triangulations of order and flow polytopes, namely Stanley's triangulation of order polytopes, the Postnikov-Stanley triangulation of flow polytopes and the Danilov-Karzanov-Koshevoy triangulation of flow polytopes. We show that when a graph $G$ is a planar graph, in which case the flow polytope $F_G$ is also an order polytope, Stanley's triangulation of this order polytope is one of the Danilov-Karzanov-Koshevoy triangulations of $F_G$. Moreover, for a general graph $G$ we show that the set of Danilov-Karzanov-Koshevoy triangulations of $F_G$ is a subset of the set of Postnikov-Stanley triangulations of $F_G$. We also describe explicit bijections between the combinatorial objects labeling the simplices in the above triangulations.

The machinery of noncommutative Schur functions provides a general tool for obtaining Schur expansions for combinatorially defined symmetric functions. We extend this approach to a wider class of symmetric functions, explore its strengths and limitations, and obtain new results on Schur positivity. We introduce combinatorial gadgets called switchboards, an adaptation of the D graphs of S. Assaf, and show how symmetric functions associated to them (which include LLT, Macdonald, Stanley, and stable Grothendieck polynomials) fit into the noncommutative Schur functions approach. This extends earlier work by T. Lam, and by C. Greene and the second author, and provides new tools for obtaining combinatorial formulas for Schur expansions of LLT polynomials.
This paper can be regarded as a "prequel" to (and, partly, a review of) arXiv:1411.3624, arXiv:1411.3646, and arXiv:1510.00644.
On trees with the same restricted U-polynomial and the Prouhet-Tarry-Escott problem
This paper focuses on the well-known problem due to Stanley of whether two non-isomorphic trees can have the same $U$-polynomial (or, equivalently, the same chromatic symmetric function). We consider the $U_k$-polynomial, which is a restricted version of $U$-polynomial, and construct with the help of solutions of the Prouhet-Tarry-Escott problem, non-isomorphic trees with the same $U_k$-polynomial for any given $k$. By doing so, we also find a new class of trees that are distinguished by the $U$-polynomial up to isomorphism.

Let $S$ be a polynomial ring and let $I \subseteq S$ be a monomial ideal. In this short note, we propose the conjecture that the Betti poset of $I$ determines the Stanley projective dimension of $S/I$ or $I$. Our main result is that this conjecture implies the Stanley conjecture for $I$, and it also implies that \[ \operatorname{sdepth} S/I \geq \operatorname{depth} S/I - 1.\] Recently, Duval et al. found a counterexample to the Stanley conjecture, and their counterexample satisfies $\operatorname{sdepth} S/I = \operatorname{depth} S/I - 1$. So if our conjecture is true, then the conclusion is best possible.

Let $\mathbb{K}$ be a field and $S=\mathbb{K}[x_1,\dots,x_n]$ be the polynomial ring in $n$ variables over $\mathbb{K}$. Let $G$ be a graph with $n$ vertices. Assume that $I=I(G)$ is the edge ideal of $G$ and $p$ is the number of its bipartite connected components. We prove that for every positive integer $k$, the inequalities ${\rm sdepth}(I^k/I^{k+1})\geq p$ and ${\rm sdepth}(S/I^k)\geq p$ hold. As a consequence, we conclude that $S/I^k$ satisfies the Stanley's inequality for every integer $k\geq n-1$. Also, it follows that $I^k/I^{k+1}$ satisfies the Stanley's inequality for every integer $k\gg 0$. Furthermore, we prove that if (i) $G$ is a non-bipartite graph, or (ii) at least one of the connected components of $G$ is a tree with at least one edge, then $I^k$ satisfies the Stanley's inequality for every integer $k\geq n-1$. Moreover, we verify a conjecture of the author in special cases.
Arrangements Of Minors In The Positive Grassmannian And a Triangulation of The Hypersimplex

The structure of zero and nonzero minors in the Grassmannian leads to rich combinatorics of matroids. In this paper, we investigate an even richer structure of possible equalities and inequalities between the minors in the positive Grassmannian. It was previously shown that arrangements of equal minors of largest value are in bijection with the simplices in a certain triangulation of the hypersimplex that was studied by Stanley, Sturmfels, Lam and Postnikov. Here we investigate the entire set of arrangements and its relations with this triangulation. First, we show that second largest minors correspond to the facets of the simplices. We then introduce the notion of cubical distance on the dual graph of the triangulation, and study its relations with the arrangement of t-th largest minors. Finally, we show that arrangements of largest minors induce a structure of partially ordered sets on the entire collection of minors. We use the Lam and Postnikov circuit triangulation of the hypersimplex to describe a 2-dimensional grid structure of this poset.
A new family of posets generalizing the weak order on some Coxeter groups
We construct a poset from a simple acyclic digraph together with a valuation on its vertices, and we compute the values of its Möbius function. We show that the weak order on Coxeter groups of type A, B, affine A, and the flag weak order on the wreath product $\mathbb{Z} \_r \wr S\_n$ introduced by Adin, Brenti and Roichman, are special instances of our construction. We conclude by associating a quasi-symmetric function to each element of these posets. In the $A$ and $\widetilde{A}$ cases, this function coincides respectively with the classical Stanley symmetric function, and with Lam's affine generalization.
Random Partitions and the Quantum Benjamin-Ono Hierarchy
We derive exact and asymptotic results for random partitions from general results in the semi-classical analysis of coherent states applied to the classical periodic Benjamin-Ono equation at critical regularity $s= -1/2$. We find classical $dF_{\star |v} (c| \overline{\varepsilon})$ and quantum $d\hat{F}^{η_{NS}}( c | \hbar, \overline{\varepsilon})|_Ψ$ conserved densities for this system with dispersion coefficient $\overline{\varepsilon}$ extending Nazarov-Sklyanin (2013). For quantum stationary states, this conserved density is $dF_λ(c | \varepsilon_2, \varepsilon_1)$ the Rayleigh measure of the profile of a partition $λ$ of anisotropy $(\varepsilon_2, \varepsilon_1) \in \mathbb{C}^2$ for $\hbar = - \varepsilon_1 \varepsilon_2$, $\overline{\varepsilon}= \varepsilon_1 + \varepsilon_2$ invariant under $\varepsilon_2 \longleftrightarrow \varepsilon_1$. As Jack polynomials are the quantum stationary states and Stanley's Cauchy kernel (1989) is the reproducing kernel, the random values of the quantum periodic Benjamin-Ono hierarchy in a coherent state $Υ_v ( \cdot | \hbar)$ are a "Jack measure" on partitions, a dispersive generalization of Okounkov's Schur measures (1999). By our general results for coherent states, we have concentration on a limit shape as $\hbar \rightarrow 0$, the classical conserved density at $v$, and quantum fluctuations are an explicit Gaussian field. Our results follow from an enumerative asymptotic expansion in $\hbar$ and $\overline{\varepsilon}$ of joint cumulants over new combinatorial objects we call "ribbon paths". Our results reflect the fact that at fixed $\hbar>0$ the weight defining Fock space is already a fractional Brownian motion of variance $\hbar$ and Hurst index $(-s) - \tfrac{1}{2} \dim \mathbb{T} = + \tfrac{1}{2} - \tfrac{1}{2} = 0.$
Plane partitions with bounded size of parts and biorthogonal polynomials
Nice formulae for plane partitions with bounded size of parts (or boxed plane partitions), which generalize the norm-trace generating function by Stanley and the trace generating function by Gansner, are exhibited. The derivation of the nice formulae is based on lattice path combinatorics of biorthogonal polynomials, especially of the little $q$-Laguerre polynomials and a generalization of the little $q$-Laguerre polynomials. A summation formula which generalizes the $q$-Chu-Vandermonde identity is also shown and utilized to prove the orthogonality of the generalized little $q$-Laguerre polynomials.

Involution words are variations of reduced words for involutions in Coxeter groups, first studied under the name of "admissible sequences" by Richardson and Springer. They are maximal chains in Richardson and Springer's weak order on involutions. This article is the first in a series of papers on involution words, and focuses on their enumerative properties. We define involution analogues of several objects associated to permutations, including Rothe diagrams, the essential set, Schubert polynomials, and Stanley symmetric functions. These definitions have geometric interpretations for certain intervals in the weak order on involutions. In particular, our definition of "involution Schubert polynomials" can be viewed as a Billey-Jockusch-Stanley type formula for cohomology class representatives of $\mathrm{O}_n$- and $\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}$-orbit closures in the flag variety, defined inductively in recent work of Wyser and Yong. As a special case of a more general theorem, we show that the involution Stanley symmetric function for the longest element of a finite symmetric group is a product of staircase-shaped Schur functions. This implies that the number of involution words for the longest element of a finite symmetric group is equal to the dimension of a certain irreducible representation of a Weyl group of type $B$.
Difference operators for partitions and some applications

Motivated by the Nekrasov-Okounkov formula on hook lengths, the first author conjectured that the Plancherel average of the $2k$-th power sum of hook lengths of partitions with size $n$ is always a polynomial of $n$ for any $k\in \mathbb{N}$. This conjecture was generalized and proved by Stanley (Ramanujan J., 23(1--3): 91--105, 2010). In this paper, inspired by the work of Stanley and Olshanski on the differential poset of Young lattice, we study the properties of two kinds of difference operators $D$ and $D^-$ defined on functions of partitions. Even though the calculations for higher orders of $D$ are extremely complex, we prove that several well-known families of functions of partitions are annihilated by a power of the difference operator $D$. As an application, our results lead to several generalizations of classic results on partitions, including the marked hook formula, Stanley Theorem, Okada-Panova hook length formula, and Fujii-Kanno-Moriyama-Okada content formula. We insist that the Okada constants $K_r$ arise directly from the computation for a single partition $λ$, without the summation ranging over all partitions of size~$n$.

We explore the enumeration of some natural classes of graded posets, including all graded posets, (2+2)- and (3+1)-avoiding graded posets, (2+2)-avoiding graded posets, and (3+1)-avoiding graded posets. We obtain enumerative and structural theorems for all of them. Along the way, we discuss a situation when we can switch between enumeration of labeled and unlabeled objects with ease, generalize a result of Postnikov and Stanley from the theory of hyperplane arrangements, answer a question posed by Stanley, and see an old result of Klarner in a new light.
