Myopic Tutte polynomials and Khovanov homology in $\mathbb{R}P^3$
We present a "myopic" Tutte polynomial for graphs on $\mathbb{R}P^2$ which takes only nullhomologous spanning subgraphs as input. It recovers the generalized Krushkal polynomial and Drobotukhina's analogue of the Jones polynomial for alternating, nullhomologous links in $\mathbb{R}P^3$. We use this myopic Tutte polynomial to prove an analogue of the Kauffman-Murasugi-Thistlethwaite Theorem, relating the Jones polynomial of an alternating link to certain refinements of the crossing number. Finally, we construct a spanning tree model for the Khovanov homology of nullhomologous links, mirroring work by Champanerkar-Kofman and Wehrli for links in $S^3$. For alternating links, we use our model to prove that the Khovanov homology in $\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z}$ coefficients is determined entirely by the Jones polynomial and signatures of the link.

Generalized formulas for the Jones polynomial of a rational link
We derive new formulas for the Jones polynomial and the Kauffman bracket polynomial of a rational link represented by a standard diagram that is not necessarily alternating. These formulas generalize the results of Qazaqzeh, Yasein, and Abu-Qamar for the Tutte polynomial of the Tait graph of an alternating diagram of a rational link, as well as the matrix formulas of Lawrence and Rosenstein for the Jones polynomial of a rational link. Our approach uses the colored version of Brylawski's tensor product formula for Tutte polynomials of colored graphs, due to Diao, Hetyei, and Hinson. Furthermore, generalizing the formulas of Qazaqzeh, Yasein, and Abu-Qamar, we present a finite automaton that computes the crossing signs, thereby enabling the calculation of the writhe of a standard diagram of a rational link.

On the Tutte polynomial of series-parallel posets
The Tutte polynomial is a bivariate polynomial that has been extensively studied in graph and matroid theory. Gordon was the first to study the Tutte polynomial $T(P;x,y)$ of the greedoid induced by a poset $P$, including the special case of series-parallel posets. In particular, Gordon and McMahon conjectured that, for any two series-parallel posets $P$ and $Q$, the equality $T(P;x,y)=T(Q;x,y)$ holds if and only if $P\cong Q$. In studying this conjecture, Gordon introduced a subclass $\mathcal{P}$ of series-parallel posets and proved that this equivalence holds for all $P,Q\in\mathcal{P}$. In this paper, we introduce a new subclass $\mathrm H$ of series-parallel posets and prove that $\mathcal P\subseteq\mathrm H$. Moreover, we show that, for every $P\in\mathrm H$ and every $Q\in\mathrm{SP}$, the equality $T(P;x,y)=T(Q;x,y)$ holds if and only if $P\cong Q$, thereby extending Gordon's result.

Hall algebras of graphs and rooted trees
Hall algebras can be associated with a broad class of combinatorial structures through the theory of 2-Segal sets. In this paper, we study the Hall algebras arising from the 2-Segal sets of rooted trees, undirected graphs, and directed graphs. In each case, we establish an analogue of Green's theorem giving a twisted bialgebra structure to the Hall algebra, describe the primitive elements, and derive a presentation by generators and relations. As an application, we realize the Hall algebra of an undirected graph as the cohomology ring of a topological space. In the case of directed graphs, we introduce the Hall polynomial, defined as the Poincar{é} polynomial of the space of primitive elements. The Hall polynomial is an invariant of the underlying undirected graph which we show to be closely related to the Tutte polynomial. We furthermore give examples of graphs with equal Tutte polynomials but distinct Hall polynomials showing thus that the Hall polynomial encodes different information from that of the Tutte polynomial.

A Survey of Graph Polynomials Related to the Chromatic Polynomial
Introduced by Birkhoff in 1912 to study the four-color conjecture, the chromatic polynomial has become one of the most extensively studied graph polynomials. It is closely connected to the Tutte polynomial through specialization, to the characteristic polynomial of the associated graphic matroid, and to the flow polynomial through planar duality. It has also inspired several related polynomials, including the $σ$-polynomial, the $w$-polynomial, and the $τ$-polynomial. This survey examines these relationships, illustrated in Figure 1, and reviews the main results.
The Loopy Polynomial: from Tutte's Universal $V$-Function to Bizonotopal Geometry
We study the loopy polynomial L_G, a multivariate graph invariant arising from bizonotopal graph algebras and defined by a deletion-loopy-contraction recursion, in which the contracted edge becomes a loop. We show that L_G contains the Tutte polynomial and admits a similar spanning-forest activity expansion. It also determines Stanley's chromatic symmetric function, the degree sequence, the induced edge count profile, and the independence polynomial for loopless graphs, and the clique and matching polynomials for simple graphs. Separating the size and the external activity of each forest component leads to a refined loopy polynomial, which we show to be equivalent to the extended U-polynomial of Noble and Welsh and to the extended polychromate. Different specializations of this common refinement give the ordinary U-polynomial, Tutte's universal V-function, and Stanley's Tutte symmetric function, placing these invariants into a single framework. We conjecture that L_G and the U-polynomial have the same distinguishing power on simple graphs, and verify this for all graphs on at most 11 vertices. Simplicity is essential: we found two loopless multigraphs with equal U-polynomials but distinct loopy polynomials. They also have distinct extended U-polynomials, so the ordinary U-polynomial does not determine the extended one on loopless multigraphs. This solves an open problem by Merino and Noble. For the score polytope P_G of the external bizonotopal algebra, loopy deletion-contraction lifts from the lattice-point enumerator to the polytope itself. This gives forest-indexed geometric parking complexes whose lattice points partition those of P_G, and which are piecewise-linearly parametrized by products of intervals whose lengths are the component weights in the forest expansion of L_G.

The Tutte polynomial determines the linear coefficient of the Ehrhart polynomial
We prove a formula for the linear coefficient of the Ehrhart polynomial in terms of the Tutte polynomial. Furthermore, we characterize the matroids that extremize this Ehrhart coefficient, proving a conjecture of Ferroni.

On the Greedoid Tutte Polynomial for simple rooted graphs
The Tutte polynomial, through its rank-generating formula, provides a unified framework for describing various combinatorial structures of graphs and matroids, and serves as an important polynomial invariant connecting graph theory, matroid theory, and their related applications. Let $G=(V(G),E(G),r(G))$ be a simple rooted graph, where $V(G)$ is the vertex set, $E(G)$ is the edge set, and $r(G)$ is the root. Let $Γ(G)$ be the greedoid induced by the rooted graph $G$, and let its greedoid Tutte polynomial be denoted by $T(Γ(G);x,y)$. Let $r=r(G)$, $L_r(G)=\{v\in V(G)\setminus\{r\}: rv\in E(G),\ d_G(v)=1\}$, and $\ell_r(G)=|L_r(G)|$. Gordon and McMahon proposed the following conjecture: for rooted graphs, $\operatorname{ord}_{x}T(Γ(G);x,y)=\ell_r(G)$, where $\operatorname{ord}_{x}T(Γ(G);x,y)=\max\{a\in\mathbb Z_{\geq0}:x^a\mid T(Γ(G);x,y)\}$, that is, the highest power of $x$ dividing $T(Γ(G);x,y)$ is equal to the number of leaf vertices adjacent to the root. In this paper, we proved that this conjecture holds for all simple rooted graphs.

Irreducibility of interlace polynomials
The factorisation of graph polynomials often reflects combinatorial decomposition. For a nonempty loopless graph $G$, we first prove that the two-variable interlace polynomial $q(G;x,y)$, introduced by Arratia, Bollobás and Sorkin, is irreducible over $\mathbb{C}[x,y]$ if and only if $G$ is connected, exactly paralleling the classical irreducibility theorem for the Tutte polynomial. The loopless hypothesis is essential: we construct an infinite family of connected looped graphs whose two-variable interlace polynomials are reducible. For a nonempty graph $G$, we prove that Courcelle's multivariate interlace polynomial $C_G(u,v;\mathbf{x},\mathbf{y})$ is irreducible over $\mathbb{C}[u,v,x_a,y_a:a\in V(G)]$ if and only if $G$ is connected.
The DP Color Function of Bipartite Graphs
DP-coloring (or correspondence coloring) is a generalization of list coloring that has been widely studied since its introduction by Dvořák and Postle in 2015. As the analogue of $P(G,q)$, the chromatic polynomial of a graph $G$, the DP color function of $G$, denoted by $P_{DP}(G,q)$, counts the minimum number of DP-colorings over all $q$-fold covers of $G$. It follows that $P_{DP}(G,q) \leq P(G,q)$. It is known that there are graphs for which $P_{DP}(G,q) < P(G,q)$ for all sufficiently large $q$; in fact, all bipartite graphs containing a cycle have this property. A fundamental open question about DP color functions asks whether, for every graph $G$, there exist $N \in \mathbb{N}$ and a polynomial $p$ such that $P_{DP}(G,q) = p(q)$ whenever $q \geq N$. In this paper we answer this question affirmatively for all bipartite graphs. Specifically, if $G$ is an $n$-vertex bipartite graph with $c$ components, then $P_{DP}(G,q) = (-1)^{n-c}q^c \;T_G(1-q,1)$ for all sufficiently large $q$, where $T_G(x,y)$ is the Tutte polynomial of $G$. The ideas we develop also yield an asymptotic formula for $P(G,q)-P_{DP}(G,q)$ whenever the girth of $G$ is even.

Edge-Span Chern Algebras of Graphical Configuration Spaces
Place the vertices of a finite graph at projective points. Each edge defines a span map to $\mathrm{Gr}(2,n)$; the pulled-back Chern classes generate a graded algebra $A_G^{(n)}$. This assignment is a covariant graph functor, so the abstract graded-algebra type is a graph invariant. In ambient dimension four, the Hilbert series is incomparable with the chromatic and Tutte polynomials. On five vertices in dimension three, the $34$ graph classes yield $33$ algebra types, strictly refining both classical polynomials. For every tree $T$, we obtain a closed Hilbert-series formula depending only on $|V(T)|$ and $n$, while $A_T^{(3)}$ determines $T$ up to isomorphism. More precisely, its cubic relation data is a complete tree invariant of polynomial size. Finally, the graphical configuration space embeds as a dense open in the picture variety, and picture spaces with equal additive homology can have nonisomorphic edge-Chern algebras.

Linear relations for Tutte polynomials of semimatroids
We establish a family of linear relations for the coefficients of the Tutte polynomial of a semimatroid. We also introduce ranked central sets, a mild generalization of semimatroids, and prove that the same identities hold in this broader setting. The proof relies on the specialization $x=\frac{z}{z-1}$, $y=z$ along the hyperbola $(x-1)(y-1)=1$; under this specialization, the edge subgraph expansion over central sets reduces to the $f$-polynomial of the central set complex. As applications, we obtain explicit formulas for Tutte polynomials of affine hyperplane arrangements and for balanced Tutte polynomials of biased graphs, whose central sets are central subarrangements and balanced edge sets, respectively. Our results recover the generalized Brylawski's identities for Tutte polynomials of ranked sets, matroids and graphs.

Partition-selected flow polynomials and associated arrangements
We introduce a partition-selection method to generalize the flow, chromatic, and Tutte polynomials of a graph by restricting the standard edge subgraph expansions to subgraphs given by prescribed connected vertex partitions. We establish similar deletion-contraction formulas and specialization relations for these polynomials, recovering all classical polynomial invariants when the selection is the set of all partitions. Next we study a relation between Jaeger et al.'s nonhomogeneous flows and a special class of partition-selected flow polynomials (called affine flow polynomials). Specifically, we give a geometric realization of nowhere-zero nonhomogeneous flows by restricting the edge-coordinate arrangement to affine flow spaces. The resulting characteristic polynomials coincide with Kochol's admissible assigning polynomials and with affine flow polynomials, which enumerate nowhere-zero nonhomogeneous flows over finite fields. To see the key role of the partition-selection framework, we further introduce boundary arrangements determined by the bond structure of a graph. Using the intersection posets of boundary arrangements, we obtain the classification of all restricted arrangements mentioned above, the comparison of unsigned coefficients of affine flow polynomials, and the decomposition formulas for affine flow polynomials.

On a conjecture of Las Vergnas
In 1988, Las Vergnas conjectured that if $M$ is a binary matroid with bicycle dimension $d$, then for $0 \leq k \leq d$, the $k$th derivative of the diagonal Tutte polynomial $T(M;z,z)$ evaluated at $z=-1$ is an integer multiple of $2^{d-k}$. While this was rapidly disproved for binary matroids and for graphs in general, extensive computations strongly suggested that it might be true for planar graphs. In this paper we prove that this is indeed the case. To do this, we consider a stronger divisibility property that we call the LV property, and a larger class of graphs, namely the class of delta-wye-reducible graphs. By a detailed analysis of how a delta-wye exchange affects the coefficients of the diagonal Tutte polynomial, we show that delta-wye-reducible graphs have the LV property. That Las Vergnas' conjecture holds for planar graphs immediately follows because planar graphs are delta-wye reducible and the LV property is stronger than Las Vergnas' divisibility conditions.

Combinatorial interpretations of Tutte polynomials at the point $(2,-1)$
Let $G$ be a simple connected graph, and let $T_{G}(x,y)$ be the Tutte polynomial of $G$. Motivated by the works in \cite{Ma}, we, in this paper, introduce the even-left spanning forests of $G$ and odd $G$-partitionable permutations, and show that $T_{G}(2,-1)$ is equal to both the number of even-left spanning forests of $G$ and the number of odd $G$-partitionable permutations. In particular, for a complete graph $K_n$, we prove that $T_{K_{n}}(2,-1)$ is the number of alternating permutations on $\{1,2,\dots,n+1\}$, using two distinct techniques: a recurrence relation and an explicit bijection construction.
Sprout Symmetric Functions: Part 1
A \emph{sprout sequence} is a sequence $\frakr=(R_0=1,R_1,R_2,\dots)$ of symmetric functions in the variables $\bmx=(x_1,x_2,\dots)$ over a field $K$ generated from a power series $F(t)=1+a_1t+a_2t^2+\cdots$ by the rule $\sum_{n\geq 0}R_nt^n = \prod_{i\geq 1} F(x_it)$. The power series $F(t)$ is called the \emph{seed} of $\frakr$. This concept originated in the work of Littlewood and Richardson (though not with the name ``sprout sequence''), and numerous examples of sprout sequences have appeared in the literature. They are related to chromatic Tutte polynomials of complete graphs and complete hypergraphs, binomial posets, upper homogeneous (upho) posets, topological genera, etc. We first develop the basic theory of sprout sequences and then look at the special case $F(t)=\sec(\sqrt{t})$. We give five characterizations of sprout sequences and consider the expansion of sprout symmetric functions in terms of well-known symmetric function bases. The Schur positivity, elementary symmetric function positivity, and complete homogeneous symmetric function positivity of $R_n$ for all $n$ are completely characterized using the Edrei-Thoma theorem from the theory of total positivity. The seed $F(t)=\sec(\sqrt{t})$ is especially interesting. The expansion of $R_n$ in the power sum or monomial basis is related to alternating permutations. The Schur function expansion is related to standard Young skew tableaux. The expansion in terms of the complete symmetric functions has nonnegative integer coefficients, but we don't know a combinatorial interpretation. Finally we give a formula for $R_n$ as a sum of chromatic symmetric functions of interval orders.

On The Morse Ensemble Polynomial Of Simplicial Complexes
We introduce the \emph{Morse ensemble polynomial} $\ME_K(z_0,\ldots,z_d)$ of a finite simplicial complex $K$, defined as the generating function $\ME_K = \sum_M \prod_i z_i^{c_i(M)}$ over all acyclic matchings $M$ on the face poset of $K$, where $c_i(M)$ counts critical $i$-simplices. This polynomial records the complete distribution of Morse vectors across all discrete Morse functions on $K$, and is an isomorphism invariant of simplicial complexes. Our main results are the following. \textbf{(I) The Laplacian Formula}: for any connected graph $G$, $\ME_G = z_1^{m-n}\det(z_0z_1\,I_n + L_G)$, identifying $\ME_G$ as a complete Laplacian spectral invariant and showing $\ME_G$ to be incomparable with the Tutte polynomial. \textbf{(II) The Top-Face Recursion}: adding a $d$-simplex $σ$ (with $\partialσ\subset K$) to a complex $K$ gives a recursion $\ME_{K\cup\{σ\}} = z_d\cdot\ME_K + \sum_{τ\precσ}(\ME_{P(K')\setminus\{σ,τ\}}-F(K,σ,τ))$. The correction term is controlled by the top incidence graph: an incidence-separation criterion detects exactly when $F=0$, and the incidence distance gives the leading obstruction term. As a topological application, this recursion gives exact coefficient recursions for perfect and optimal discrete Morse vectors. \textbf{(III) The independence ME polynomial} $Φ(G) := \ME_{\mathrm{Ind}(G)}$ is a fine graph invariant which strictly refines the graph-level Morse ensemble $\ME_G$, separates examples not distinguished by $T_G$ and $I(G;t)$, and records collapse-level information of $\mathrm{Ind}(G)$ through coefficients such as $[z_0]Φ(G)$.

Saddle-Point Asymptotics for Chromatic and Tutte Polynomial Evaluations of Complete Multipartite Graphs
We develop a saddle-point theory for acyclic orientations and negative chromatic evaluations of complete multipartite graphs, with applications to OEIS A267383, A372326, A372084, A372395, and A370613. The main tool is an exact Gamma-type integral representation for acyclic orientation counts and its Gamma-weighted extension to the negative chromatic axis. We prove Kotesovec's fixed-column conjecture for A267383 for arbitrary fixed numbers of parts, give the corresponding fixed-p Tutte-axis asymptotics, develop an analytic-combinatorics-in-several-variables framework for chromatic evaluations of fixed graph blow-ups, and give unconditional fixed-base families reducible to balanced Turan graphs. In the product regimes we prove fixed part-size and finite-profile expansions, and for equal-size parts we obtain an all-order expansion throughout every fixed polynomial window, including explicit corrections through the cubic scale. Finally, we prove logarithmic asymptotics for the partition-sum sequences A372395 and A370613 via a quadratic-energy partition model, a growing-window comparison for the Stirling-transform factors, and a random-permutation far-tail bound.
Topological indices on self-similar graphs generated by groups
In this paper, we determine precise formulas for the diameters, the number of perfect matchings, and the Tutte polynomials for an infinite family of finite graphs, namely the Schreier graphs of tree automaton groups, also called tree graph automata. This enables us to easily find the number of spanning trees, spanning forests, and an explicit form for the chromatic polynomials. In the second part of the paper, we provide the precise values for the Wiener and Szeged index of any tree graph automaton.

Graded Ehrhart Theory of Unimodular Zonotopes
Graded Ehrhart theory is a new $q$-analogue of Ehrhart theory based on the orbit harmonics method. We study the graded Ehrhart theory of unimodular zonotopes from a matroid-theoretic perspective. Generalizing a result of Stanley (1991), we prove that the graded lattice point count of a unimodular zonotope is a $q$-evaluation of its Tutte polynomial. We conclude that the graded Ehrhart series of a unimodular zonotope is rational and obeys graded Ehrhart--Macdonald reciprocity. In an algebraic direction, we prove that the harmonic algebra of a unimodular zonotope is a coordinate ring of its associated arrangement Schubert variety. Using the geometry of arrangement Schubert varieties, we prove that the harmonic algebra of a unimodular zonotope is finitely generated and Cohen--Macaulay. We also give an explicit presentation of the harmonic algebra of a unimodular zonotope in terms of generators and relations. We conclude by classifying which unimodular zonotopes have Gorenstein harmonic algebras. Our work answers, in the special case of unimodular zonotopes, two conjectures of Reiner and Rhoades (2024).
