Canon Permutation Posets
A permutation of the multiset $\{1^m,2^m,\dots,n^m\}$ is a canon permutation if the subsequence formed by the $j$th copy of each element of $[n]:=\{1,2,\dots,n\}$ is identical for all $j\in[m]$. Canon permutations were introduced by Elizalde and are motivated by pattern-avoiding concepts such as (quasi-)Stirling permutations. He proved that the descent polynomial of canon permutations exhibits a surprising product structure; as a further consequence, it is palindromic. Our goal is to understand canon permutations from the viewpoint of Stanley's $(P,ω)$-partitions, along the way generalizing Elizalde's definition and results. We start with a labeled poset $P$ and extend it in a natural way to canon labelings of the product poset $P \times [n]$. The resulting descent polynomial has a product structure which arises naturally from the theory of $(P,ω)$-partitions and simplifies existing proofs. When $P$ is graded, this theory also implies palindromicity. We include results on weak descent polynomials, an amphibian construction between canon permutations and multiset permutations, giving rise to dissonant canon permutations, as well as $γ$-positivity and interpretations of descent polynomials of canon permutations.
A matrix approach to the enumeration of naturally labeled posets
We propose a matrix approach for enumerating naturally labeled posets by representing each poset $P$ on $[n]$ as a Boolean poset matrix $A$. This algebraic representation enables a systematic handling of partial orderings through $v$-extensions of the form $A^v=\bigl[\begin{smallmatrix}A&0\\ v&1\end{smallmatrix}\bigr]$. We show that $A^v$ defines a valid poset matrix if and only if the Boolean vector $v$ represents an order ideal of the poset $P$ associated to $A$, equivalently satisfying the fixed-point equation $vA=v$. Furthermore, we explore the twin-class decomposition of $A$, which partitions the elements of $P$ according to identical down- and up-sets. Finally, we present an algorithmic generation scheme for the posets based on the topological growth of their distribution lattices, offering a new approach to constructive enumeration of poset families.
Chow polynomials of rank-uniform labeled posets
We introduce and develop the theory of UMEL-shellable posets. These are posets equipped with an edge-lexicographical labeling satisfying certain uniformity and monotonicity properties. This framework encompasses classical families of combinatorial geometries, including uniform matroids, projective and affine geometries, braid matroids of type A and B, and all Dowling geometries. It also comprises all rank-uniform supersolvable lattices, and therefore also all rank-uniform distributive lattices. Our main result establishes real-rootedness phenomena for the Chow polynomials, the augmented Chow polynomials, and the chain polynomials associated with those posets, thus making simultaneous progress towards conjectures by Ferroni--Schröter, Huh--Stevens, and Athanasiadis--Kalampogia-Evangelinou. In the special case of lattices of flats of matroids, the (augmented) Chow polynomials coincide with the Hilbert--Poincaré series of the Chow ring associated to the smooth and generally noncompact toric varieties of the (augmented) Bergman fan of the matroid, whereas the chain polynomial encodes the Hilbert--Poincaré series of the Stanley--Reisner ring of the Bergman complex of the matroid. Therefore, these real-rootedness results are tightly linked to the study of these algebro-geometric structures in matroid theory.

Partially ordered patterns (POPs) generalize the classical notion of permutation patterns within the framework of pattern avoidance. Building on recent work by Burstein, Han, Kitaev, and Zhang, which introduced the concept of shape-Wilf-equivalence of sets of patterns, we develop the notions of \emph{ordinal} and \emph{disjoint sums} of labeled posets. This framework enables us to reinterpret their main result as an ordinal sum analogue of the classical theorem by Backelin, West, and Xin. We establish analogous results for disjoint sums of POPs and further extend their results to prove Wilf-equivalence for classes of POPs that include isolated vertices. In particular, we prove the shape-Wilf-equivalence of the sets of patterns $\{123, 213, 312\}$ and $\{132, 231, 321\}$. Our proof strategy involves a bijection that filters through an encoding scheme for the transversals avoiding these patterns. We use these results to completely classify the partially ordered patterns of size $3,4,5$ whose connected components are all chains. This classification also confirms a conjecture posed by Dimitrov at the problem session of the British Combinatorics Conference 2024 (BCC30).

In this paper, we explore (slightly generalized) $f$-Eulerian polynomials introduced by Stanley and frequently appearing in combinatorics. Notable special cases include the classical Eulerian polynomials, the generating polynomials of order polynomials for certain labeled posets, and the $d$-Narayana polynomials. We establish simple sufficient conditions for the reality (and sign) of their zeros and present implications for total positivity of sequences generated by values of polynomials at integers. We further relate these polynomials to generalized Euler's transformations for the generalized hypergeometric functions with integral parameter differences. Exploiting this and other hypergeometric connections, we provide purely hypergeometric proofs for various known and some new properties of $d$-Narayana polynomials. Another family encompassed by our definition of the generalized $f$-Eulerian polynomials is that of Jacobi-Piñeiro type II multiple orthogonal polynomials. Their zero location can thus be analyzed, for both canonical and non-canonical parameter values, without invoking orthogonality. Finally, we present several connection formulas relating $d$-Narayana polynomials to particular Jacobi-Piñeiro polynomials.

The $(P, w)$-partition generating function $K_{(P,w)}(x)$ is a quasisymmetric function obtained from a labeled poset. Recently, Liu and Weselcouch gave a formula for the coefficients of $K_{(P,w)}(x)$ when expanded in the quasisymmetric power sum function basis. This formula generalizes the classical Murnaghan--Nakayama rule for Schur functions.
We extend this result to weighted $(P, w)$-partitions and provide a short combinatorial proof, avoiding the Hopf algebra machinery used by Liu--Weselcouch.

A barcode is a finite multiset of intervals on the real line. Jaramillo-Rodriguez (2023) previously defined a map from the space of barcodes with a fixed number of bars to a set of multipermutations, which presented new combinatorial invariants on the space of barcodes. A partial order can be defined on these multipermutations, resulting in a class of posets known as combinatorial barcode lattices. In this paper, we provide a number of equivalent definitions for the combinatorial barcode lattice, show that its Möbius function is a restriction of the Möbius function of the symmetric group under the weak Bruhat order, and show its ground set is the Jordan-Hölder set of a labeled poset. Furthermore, we obtain formulas for the number of join-irreducible elements, the rank-generating function, and the number of maximal chains of combinatorial barcode lattices. Lastly, we make connections between intervals in the combinatorial barcode lattice and certain classes of matchings.
Posets for $F$-polynomials in cluster algebras from surfaces
We prove a simple formula for arbitrary cluster variables in the marked surfaces model. As part of the formula, we associate a labeled poset to each tagged arc, such that the associated $F$-polynomial is a weighted sum of order ideals. Each element of the poset has a weight, and the weight of an ideal is the product of the weights of the elements of the ideal. In the unpunctured case, the weight on each element is a single $\hat{y}_i$, in the usual sense of principal coefficients. In the presence of punctures, some elements may have weights of the form $\hat{y}_i/\hat{y}_j$. Our search for such a formula was inspired by the Fundamental Theorem of Finite Distributive Lattices combined with work of Gregg Musiker, Ralf Schiffler, and Lauren Williams that, in some cases, organized the terms of the $F$-polynomial into a distributive lattice. The proof consists of a simple and poset-theoretically natural argument in a special case, followed by a hyperbolic geometry argument using a cover of the surface to prove the general case.
F-Polynomials of Donaldson-Thomas Transformations
$F$-polynomials are integer coefficient polynomials encoding the mutations of cluster variables inside a cluster algebra. In this article, we study the $F$-polynomials associated with the action of Donaldson-Thomas transformations on cluster variables. For acyclic quivers, quivers of surface types, and quivers associated with triples of flags, we give explicit descriptions of their Donaldson-Thomas $F$-polynomials in terms of generating functions for ideals inside a labeled poset. We also describe the combinatorial procedure needed to modify these labeled posets to obtain Donaldson-Thomas $F$-polynomials for full subquivers and triangular extensions.

Cominuscule flag varieties generalize Grassmannians to other Lie types. Schubert varieties in cominuscule flag varieties are indexed by posets of roots labeled long/short. These labeled posets generalize Young diagrams. We prove that Schubert varieties in potentially different cominuscule flag varieties are isomorphic as varieties if and only if their corresponding labeled posets are isomorphic, generalizing the classification of Grassmannian Schubert varieties using Young diagrams by the last two authors. Our proof is type-independent.

We give two new combinatorial methods for computing cluster expansion formulas for arcs coming from possibly punctured surfaces. The first is by using $T$-walks, an extension of the $T$-path model for unpunctured surfaces to general surfaces. We also introduce a new way of generating $T$-paths. The second method is by using order ideals of labeled posets associated to arcs. We also use the theory of oriented posets to give a quick way to calculate the expressions using $2$ by $2$ matrices. The techniques introduced are applicable to different settings in cluster algebras and beyond.

We seek simple conditions on a pair of labeled posets that determine when the difference of their $(P,ω)$-partition enumerators is $F$-positive, i.e., positive in Gessel's fundamental basis. This is a quasisymmetric analogue of the extensively studied problem of finding conditions on a pair of skew shapes that determine when the difference of their skew Schur functions is Schur-positive. We determine necessary conditions and separate sufficient conditions for $F$-positivity, and show that a broad operation for combining posets preserves positivity properties. We conclude with classes of posets for which we have conditions that are both necessary and sufficient.
Random bipartite posets and extremal problems
Previously, Erdős, Kierstead and Trotter investigated the dimension of random height~$2$ partially ordered sets. Their research was motivated primarily by two goals: (1)~analyzing the relative tightness of the Füredi-Kahn upper bounds on dimension in terms of maximum degree; and (2)~developing machinery for estimating the expected dimension of a random labeled poset on $n$ points. For these reasons, most of their effort was focused on the case $0<p\le 1/2$. While bounds were given for the range $1/2\le p <1$, the relative accuracy of the results in the original paper deteriorated as $p$ approaches~$1$.
Motivated by two extremal problems involving conditions that force a poset to contain a large standard example, we were compelled to revisit this subject, but now with primary emphasis on the range $1/2\le p<1$. Our sharpened analysis shows that as $p$ approaches~$1$, the expected value of dimension increases and then decreases, answering in the negative a question posed in the original paper. Along the way, we apply inequalities of Talagrand and Janson, establish connections with latin rectangles and the Euler product function, and make progress on both extremal problems.
Toric heaps, cyclic reducibility, and conjugacy in Coxeter groups

As a visualization of Cartier and Foata's "partially commutative monoid" theory, G.X. Viennot introduced "heaps of pieces" in 1986. These are essentially labeled posets satisfying a few additional properties. They naturally arise as models of reduced words in Coxeter groups. In this paper, we introduce a cyclic version, motivated by the idea of taking a heap and wrapping it into a cylinder. We call this object a "toric heap", as we formalize it as a labeled toric poset, which is a cyclic version of an ordinary poset. To define the concept of a toric extension, we develop a morphism in the category of toric heaps. We study toric heaps in Coxeter theory, in view of the fact that a cyclic shift of a reduced word is simply a conjugate by an initial or terminal generator. This allows us to formalize and study a framework of "cyclic reducibility" in Coxeter theory, and apply it to model conjugacy. We introduce the notion of "torically reduced", which is stronger than being cyclically reduced for group elements. This gives rise to a new class of elements called "torically fully commutative" (TFC), which are those that have a unique cyclic commutativity class, and comprise a strictly bigger class than the "cyclically fully commutative" (CFC) elements. We prove several cyclic analogues of results on fully commutative (FC) elements due to Stembridge. We conclude with how this framework fits into recent work in Coxeter groups, and we correct a minor flaw in a few recently published theorems.

We introduce an enriched analogue of Lam and Pylyavskyy's theory of set-valued $P$-partitions. An an application, we construct a $K$-theoretic version of Stembridge's Hopf algebra of peak quasisymmetric functions. We show that the symmetric part of this algebra is generated by Ikeda and Naruse's shifted stable Grothendieck polynomials. We give the first proof that the natural skew analogues of these power series are also symmetric. A central tool in our constructions is a "$K$-theoretic" Hopf algebra of labeled posets, which may be of independent interest. Our results also lead to some new explicit formulas for the involution $ω$ on the ring of symmetric functions.

The $(P, ω)$-partition generating function of a labeled poset $(P, ω)$ is a quasisymmetric function enumerating certain order-preserving maps from $P$ to $\mathbb{Z}^+$. We study the expansion of this generating function in the recently introduced type 1 quasisymmetric power sum basis $\{ψ_α\}$. Using this expansion, we show that connected, naturally labeled posets have irreducible $P$-partition generating functions. We also show that series-parallel posets are uniquely determined by their partition generating functions. We conclude by giving a combinatorial interpretation for the coefficients of the $ψ_α$-expansion of the $(P, ω)$-partition generating function akin to the Murnaghan-Nakayama rule.

The $P$-partition generating function of a (naturally labeled) poset $P$ is a quasisymmetric function enumerating order-preserving maps from $P$ to $\mathbb{Z}^+$. Using the Hopf algebra of posets, we give necessary conditions for two posets to have the same generating function. In particular, we show that they must have the same number of antichains of each size, as well as the same shape (as defined by Greene). We also discuss which shapes guarantee uniqueness of the $P$-partition generating function and give a method of constructing pairs of non-isomorphic posets with the same generating function.

We discuss results dealing with universal cycles (u-cycles) and $s$-overlap cycles, and contribute to the body of those results by proving existence of universal cycles of naturally labeled posets (NL posets), $s$-overlap cycles of words of weight $k$, and juggling patterns. The result on posets is, to the best of our knowledge, the first demonstration of the existence of a u-cycle whose length is unknown.

To every labeled poset (P,ω), one can associate a quasisymmetric generating function for its (P,ω)-partitions. We ask: when do two labeled posets have the same generating function? Since the special case corresponding to skew Schur function equality is still open, a complete classification of equality among (P,ω) generating functions is likely too much to expect. Instead, we determine necessary conditions and separate sufficient conditions for two labeled posets to have equal generating functions. We conclude with a classification of all equalities for labeled posets with small numbers of linear extensions.

Partially ordered sets labeled with k labels (k-posets) and their homomorphisms are examined. We give a representation of directed graphs by k-posets; this provides a new proof of the universality of the homomorphism order of k-posets. This universal order is a distributive lattice. We investigate some other properties, namely the infinite distributivity, the computation of infinite suprema and infima, and the complexity of certain decision problems involving the homomorphism order of k-posets. Sublattices are also examined.
