Diagram algebras (e.g. graded braid groups, Hecke algebras, Brauer algebras) arise as tensor power centralizer algebras, algebras of commuting operators for a Lie algebra action on a tensor space. This work explores centralizers of the action of a complex reductive Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ on tensor space of the form $M \otimes N \otimes V^{\otimes k}$. We define the degenerate two-boundary braid algebra $\mathcal{G}_k$ and show that centralizer algebras contain quotients of this algebra in a general setting. As an example, we study in detail the combinatorics of special cases corresponding to Lie algebras $\mathfrak{gl}_n$ and $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ and modules $M$ and $N$ indexed by rectangular partitions. For this setting, we define the degenerate extended two-boundary Hecke algebra $\mathcal{H}_k^{\mathrm{ext}}$ as a quotient of $\mathcal{G}_k$, and show that a quotient of $\mathcal{H}_k^{\mathrm{ext}}$ is isomorphic to a large subalgebra of the centralizer. We further study the representation theory of $\mathcal{H}_k^{\mathrm{ext}}$ to find that the seminormal representations are indexed by a known family of partitions. The bases for the resulting modules are given by paths in a lattice of partitions, and the action of $\mathcal{H}_k^{\mathrm{ext}}$ is given by combinatorial formulas.

We introduce deformations of Kazhdan-Lusztig elements and specialised nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials, both of which form a distinguished basis of the polynomial representation of a maximal parabolic subalgebra of the Hecke algebra. We give explicit integral formula for these polynomials, and explicitly describe the transition matrices between classes of polynomials. We further develop a combinatorial interpretation of homogeneous evaluations using an expansion in terms of Schubert polynomials in the deformation parameters.
Decomposition numbers for Hecke algebras of type $G(r,p,n)$: the $(ε,q)$-separated case

The paper studies the modular representation theory of the cyclotomic Hecke algebras of type $G(r,p,n)$ with $(\eps,q)$-separated parameters. We show that the decomposition numbers of these algebras are completely determined by the decomposition matrices of related cyclotomic Hecke algebras of type $G(s,1,m)$, where $1\le s\le r$ and $1\le m\le n$. Furthermore, the proof gives an explicit algorithm for computing these decomposition numbers. Consequently, in principle, the decomposition matrices of these algebras are now known in characteristic zero. In proving these results, we develop a Specht module theory for these algebras, explicitly construct their simple modules and introduce and study analogues of the cyclotomic Schur algebras of type $G(r,p,n)$ when the parameters are $(\eps,q)$-separated. The main results of the paper rest upon two Morita equivalences: the first reduces the calculation of all decomposition numbers to the case of the \textit{$l$-splittable decomposition numbers} and the second Morita equivalence allows us to compute these decomposition numbers using an analogue of the cyclotomic Schur algebras for the Hecke algebras of type $G(r,p,n)$.

We study symmetric polynomials whose variables are odd-numbered Jucys-Murphy elements. They define elements of the Hecke algebra associated to the Gelfand pair of the symmetric group with the hyperoctahedral group. We evaluate their expansions in zonal spherical functions and in double coset sums. These evaluations are related to integrals of polynomial functions over orthogonal groups. Furthermore, we give an extension of them, based on Jack polynomials.

We identify a subalgebra \pH_n of the extended affine Hecke algebra \eH_n of type A. The subalgebra \pH_n is a \u-analogue of the monoid algebra of §_n \ltimes \ZZ_{\geq 0}^n and inherits a canonical basis from that of \eH_n. We show that its left cells are naturally labeled by tableaux filled with positive integer entries having distinct residues mod n, which we term \emph{positive affine tableaux} (PAT).
We then exhibit a cellular subquotient \R_{1^n} of \pH_n that is a \u-analogue of the ring of coinvariants \CC[y_1,...,y_n]/(e_1,...,e_n) with left cells labeled by PAT that are essentially standard Young tableaux with cocharge labels. Multiplying canonical basis elements by a certain element π\in \pH_n corresponds to rotations of words, and on cells corresponds to cocyclage. We further show that \R_{1^n} has cellular quotients \R_λthat are \u-analogues of the Garsia-Procesi modules R_λwith left cells labeled by (a PAT version of) the λ-catabolizable tableaux.
We give a conjectural description of a cellular filtration of \pH_n, the subquotients of which are isomorphic to dual versions of \R_λunder the perfect pairing on \R_{1^n}. We conjecture how this filtration relates to the combinatorics of the cells of \eH_n worked out by Shi, Lusztig, and Xi. We also conjecture that the k-atoms of Lascoux, Lapointe, and Morse and the R-catabolizable tableaux of Shimozono and Weyman have cellular counterparts in \pH_n. We extend the idea of atom copies of Lascoux, Lapoint, and Morse to positive affine tableaux and give descriptions, mostly conjectural, of some of these copies in terms of catabolizability.
Algèbre combinatoire et effective: des graphes aux algèbres de Kac, via l'exploration informatique
This manuscript synthesizes almost fifteen years of research in algebraic combinatorics, in order to highlight, theme by theme, its perspectives.
In part one, building on my thesis work, I use tools from commutative algebra, and in particular from invariant theory, to study isomorphism problems in combinatorics. I first consider algebras of graph invariants in relation with Ulam's reconstruction conjecture, and then, more generally, the age algebras of relational structures. This raises in return structural and algorithmic problems in the invariant theory of permutation groups.
In part two, the leitmotiv is the quest for simple yet rich combinatorial models to describe algebraic structures and their representations. This includes the Hecke group algebras of Coxeter groups which I introduced and which relate to the affine Hecke algebras, but also some finite dimensional Kac algebras in relation with inclusions of factors, and the rational Steenrod algebras. Beside being concrete and constructive, such combinatorial models shed light on certain algebraic phenomena and can lead to elegant and elementary proofs.
My favorite tool is computer exploration, and the algorithmic and effective aspects play a major role in this manuscript. In particular, I describe the international open source project *-Combinat which I founded back in 2000, and whose mission is to provide an extensible toolbox for computer exploration in algebraic combinatorics and to foster code sharing among researchers in this area. I present specific challenges that the development of this project raised, and the original algorithmic, design, and development model solutions I was led to develop.
The biHecke monoid of a finite Coxeter group

The usual combinatorial model for the 0-Hecke algebra of the symmetric group is to consider the algebra (or monoid) generated by the bubble sort operators. This construction generalizes to any finite Coxeter group W. The authors previously introduced the Hecke group algebra, constructed as the algebra generated simultaneously by the bubble sort and antisort operators, and described its representation theory.
In this paper, we consider instead the monoid generated by these operators. We prove that it has |W| simple and projective modules. In order to construct a combinatorial model for the simple modules, we introduce for each w in W a combinatorial module whose support is the interval [1,w] in right weak order. This module yields an algebra, whose representation theory generalizes that of the Hecke group algebra. This involves the introduction of a w-analogue of the combinatorics of descents of W and a generalization to finite Coxeter groups of blocks of permutation matrices.
Finite groups acting linearly: Hochschild cohomology and the cup product

When a finite group acts linearly on a complex vector space, the natural semi-direct product of the group and the polynomial ring over the space forms a skew group algebra. This algebra plays the role of the coordinate ring of the resulting orbifold and serves as a substitute for the ring of invariant polynomials from the viewpoint of geometry and physics. Its Hochschild cohomology predicts various Hecke algebras and deformations of the orbifold. In this article, we investigate the ring structure of the Hochschild cohomology of the skew group algebra. We show that the cup product coincides with a natural smash product, transferring the cohomology of a group action into a group action on cohomology. We express the algebraic structure of Hochschild cohomology in terms of a partial order on the group (modulo the kernel of the action). This partial order arises after assigning to each group element the codimension of its fixed point space. We describe the algebraic structure for Coxeter groups, where this partial order is given by the reflection length function; a similar combinatorial description holds for an infinite family of complex reflection groups.

For extra-large Coxeter systems (m(s,r)>3), we construct a natural and explicit set of Soergel bimodules D={D_w}_{w\in W} such that each D_w contains as a direct summand (or is equal to) the indecomposable Soergel bimodule B_w. When decategorified, we prove that D gives rise to a set {d_w}_{w\in W} that is actually a basis of the Hecke algebra. This basis is close to the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis and satisfies a ``positivity condition''.
Combinatorics of $(\ell,0)$-JM partitions, $\ell$-cores, the ladder crystal and the finite Hecke algebra
The following thesis contains results on the combinatorial representation theory of the finite Hecke algebra $H_n(q)$.
In Chapter 2 simple combinatorial descriptions are given which determine when a Specht module corresponding to a partition $λ$ is irreducible. This is done by extending the results of James and Mathas. These descriptions depend on the crystal of the basic representation of the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}_\ell}$. In Chapter 3 these results are extended to determine which irreducible modules have a realization as a Specht module. To do this, a new condition of irreducibility due to Fayers is combined with a new description of the crystal from Chapter 2. In Chapter 4 a bijection of cores first described by myself and Monica Vazirani is studied in more depth. Various descriptions of it are given, relating to the quotient $\widetilde{S_\ell}/{S_\ell}$ and to the bijection given by Lapointe and Morse.
A diagrammatic representation of an affine $C$ Temperley--Lieb algebra
In this thesis, I present an associative diagram algebra that is a faithful representation of a particular Temperley--Lieb algebra of type affine $C$, which has a basis indexed by the fully commutative elements of the Coxeter group of the same type. The Coxeter group of type affine $C$ contains an infinite number of fully commutative elements, and so the corresponding Temperley--Lieb algebra is of infinite rank. With the exception of type affine $A$, all other generalized Temperley--Lieb algebras with known diagrammatic representations are of finite rank. In the finite rank case, counting arguments are employed to prove faithfulness, but these techniques are not available in the affine $C$ case. To prove faithfulness, I classify the fully commutative elements in Coxeter groups of types $B$ and affine $C$ that are irreducible under weak star reductions. The classification of these irreducible elements provides the groundwork for inductive arguments that are used to prove faithfulness. The classification of the weak star irreducible elements of type $B$ also verifies C.K. Fan's unproved claim about about the set of fully commutative elements in a Coxeter group of type $B$ having no generator appearing in the left or right descent set that can be left or right cancelled, respectively. The results of this thesis will be used to construct a trace on the Hecke algebra of type affine $C$, which will then be used to compute leading coefficients of certain Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomials in a non-recursive way.

Let $\H_n$ be a (degenerate or non-degenerate) Hecke algebra of type $G(\ell,1,n)$, defined over a commutative ring $R$ with one, and let $S(\bmu)$ be a Specht module for $\H_n$. This paper shows that the induced Specht module $S(\bmu)\otimes_{\H_n}\H_{n+1}$ has an explicit Specht filtration.

From the combinatorial characterizations of the right, left, and two-sided Kazhdan-Lusztig cells of the symmetric group, 'RSK bases' are constructed for certain quotients by two-sided ideals of the group ring and the Hecke algebra. Applications to invariant theory, over various base rings, of the general linear group and representation theory of the symmetric group are discussed.

We first describe how the Kashiwara involution on crystals of affine type $A$ is encoded by the combinatorics of aperiodic multisegments. This yields a simple relation between this involution and the Zelevinsky involution on the set of simple modules for the affine Hecke algebras. We then give efficient procedures for computing these involutions. Remarkably, these procedures do not use the underlying crystal structure. They also permit to match explicitly the Ginzburg and Ariki parametrizations of the simple modules associated to affine and cyclotomic Hecke algebras, respectively .
On combinatorial formulas for the characters of Hecke algebras
Hecke algebras are beautiful q-extensions of Coxeter groups. In this paper, we prove several results on their characters, with an emphasis on characters induced from trivial and sign representations of parabolic subalgebras. While most of the results in type A are known, our proofs are of a combinatorial nature, and generalize to (partial) results in types B and C. We also present complete descriptions of such characters for type I.

This paper concerns the combinatorics of the orbit Hecke algebra associated with the orbit of a two sided Weyl group action on the Renner monoid of a finite monoid of Lie type, $M$. It is shown by Putcha in \cite{Putcha97} that the Kazhdan-Lusztig involution (\cite{KL79}) can be extended to the orbit Hecke algebra which enables one to define the $R$-polynomials of the intervals contained in a given orbit. Using the $R$-polynomials, we calculate the Möbius function of the Bruhat-Chevalley ordering on the orbits. Furthermore, we provide a necessary condition for an interval contained in a given orbit to be isomorphic to an interval in some Weyl group.

$W$-graph versions of tensoring with the $§_n$ defining representation

We further develop the theory of inducing $W$-graphs worked out by Howlett and Yin in \cite{HY1}, \cite{HY2}, focusing on the case $W = §_n$. Our main application is to give two $W$-graph versions of tensoring with the $§_n$ defining representation $V$, one being $\H \tsr_{\H_J} -$ for $\H, \H_J$ the Hecke algebras of $§_n, §_{n-1}$ and the other $(\pH \tsr_{\H} -)_1$, where $\pH$ is a subalgebra of the extended affine Hecke algebra and the subscript signifies taking the degree 1 part. We look at the corresponding $W$-graph versions of the projection $V \tsr V \tsr - \to S^2 V \tsr -$. This does not send canonical basis elements to canonical basis elements, but we show that it approximates doing so as the Hecke algebra parameter $\u \to 0$. We make this approximation combinatorially explicit by determining it on cells. Also of interest is a combinatorial conjecture stating the restriction of $\H$ to $\H_J$ is "weakly multiplicity-free" for $|J| = n-1$, and a partial determination of the map $\H \tsr_{\H_J} \H \xrightarrow{\counit} \H$ on canonical basis elements, where $\counit$ is the counit of adjunction.

This paper contains a complete description of minimal non-gatherable triangle triples in the lambda-sequences for the classical root systems, $F_4$ and $E_6$. Such sequences are associated with reduced decompositions (words) in affine and non-affine Weyl groups. The existence of the non-gatherable triples is a combinatorial obstacle for using the technique of intertwiners for an explicit description of the irreducible representations of the (double) affine Hecke algebras, complementary to their algebraic-geometric theory.
