Graph enumeration for moduli spaces of curves and maps
We develop a calculus based on graph enumeration for $S_n$-equivariant motivic invariants of graphically stratified moduli spaces. We apply our theory to the Deligne--Mumford moduli space $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{g, n}$ and to the space of torus-fixed stable maps $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{g, n}(X, β)^{\mathbb{C}^\star}$ when the target $X$ admits an appropriate $\mathbb{C}^\star$-action, deriving new formulas in each case. A key role is played by the Pólya--Petersen character of a graph, which enriches Pólya's classical cycle index polynomial. This character is valued in an algebra $Λ^{[2]}$ of wreath product symmetric functions, which we study from combinatorial and representation-theoretic perspectives. We prove that this algebra may be viewed as the Grothendieck ring of the category of polynomial functors which take symmetric sequences of vector spaces to vector spaces, building on foundational work of Macdonald. This leads to a plethystic action of $Λ^{[2]}$ on the ring $Λ$ of ordinary symmetric functions. Using this action, we derive our formulas, which ultimately involve only ordinary symmetric functions and the Grothendieck ring of mixed Hodge structures.

Improved Bounds on Ultra-Log Concavity of the Grothendieck Class of $\overline{\mathcal{M}_{0,n}}$
The class of the fine moduli space of stable $n$-pointed curves of genus zero, $\overline{\mathcal{M}_{0,n}}$, in the Grothendieck ring of varieties encodes its Poincaré polynomial. Aluffi-Chen-Marcolli conjecture that the Grothendieck class of $\overline{\mathcal{M}_{0,n}}$ is real-rooted (and hence ultra-log-concave), and they proved an asymptotic ultra-log-concavity result for these polynomials. We build upon their work, by providing effectively computable bounds for the error term in their asymptotic formula for $\mathrm{rk}\, H^{2l}(\overline{\mathcal{M}_{0,n}})$. As a consequence, we prove that in the range $l \le \frac{n}{10\log n}$, the ultra-log-concavity inequality \[\left(\frac{\mathrm{rk}\, H^{2(l-1)}(\overline{\mathcal{M}_{0,n}})}{\binom{n-3}{l-1}}\right)^2 \ge \frac{\mathrm{rk}\, H^{2(l-2)}(\overline{\mathcal{M}_{0,n}})\mathrm{rk}\, H^{2l}(\overline{\mathcal{M}_{0,n}})}{\binom{n-3}{l-2}\binom{n-3}{l}} \] holds for $n$ sufficiently large.
Fans and polytopes in tilting theory III: Classification of convex $g$-fans of rank 3
Published • View Publication • BIB
The $g$-fan $Σ(A)$ of a finite dimensional algebra $A$ is a non-singular fan in its real Grothendieck group, defined by tilting theory. If the union ${\rm P}(A)$ of the simplices associated with the cones of $Σ(A)$ is convex, we call $A$ $g$-convex. In this case, the $g$-polytope ${\rm P}(A)$ of $A$ is a reflexive polytope. Thus, in each dimension, there are only finitely many isomorphism classes of fans that can be realized as $g$-fans of $g$-convex algebras. An important problem is to classify such fans for a fixed dimension $d$. In this paper, we give a complete answer for the case $d=3$: we prove that there are precisely 61 convex $g$-fans of dimension 3 up to isomorphism. Our method is based on the decomposition of fans into the $2^3$ orthants in the real Grothendieck group of $A$, together with a detailed analysis of possible sequences of $g$-vectors arising from iterated mutations.

Kőnig = Ramsey, A compactness lemma for Ramsey categories
We prove a new characterization of the Ramsey property of categories in terms of a generalized form of Kőnig's tree lemma. Afterwards, we discuss its applications to structural Ramsey theory. In particular, we provide a new proof of the existence and uniqueness of minimal Ramsey expansions and a new transfer theorem which uses Grothendieck opfibrations and unifies several known Ramsey transfers.

$K$-analogues of Hivert's divided difference operators
Several families of polynomials of combinatorial and representation theoretic interest (notably the Schur polynomials $s_λ$, Demazure characters $\mathfrak{D}_a$, and Demazure atoms $\mathfrak{A}_a$) can be defined in terms of divided difference operators. Hivert (2000) defines "fundamental analogues" of these divided difference operators, and Hivert and Hicks-Niese show in arXiv:2406.02420 that the polynomials that arise from those fundamental operators in analogous ways to the three families of polynomials above are respectively the fundamental quasisymmetric functions $F_a$ from (1984), the fundamental slides $\mathfrak{F}_a$ of Assaf and Searles from arXiv:1603.09744, and the fundamental particles $\mathfrak{P}_a$ of Searles from arXiv:1707.01172. Lascoux (2001) defines $K$-analogues of the divided difference operators, and in arXiv:1908.07364, Buciumas, Scrimshaw, and Weber show that the polynomials arising in corresponding ways from the $K$-theoretic divided difference operators are respectively the Grothendieck polynomials $\overline{s}_λ$, the combinatorial Lascoux polynomials $\overline{\mathfrak{D}}_a$ from arXiv:1611.08777, and the combinatorial Lascoux atoms $\overline{\mathfrak{A}}_a$ from arXiv:1611.08777, as conjectured by Monical in arXiv:1611.08777. We define $K$-analogues of Hivert's fundamental divided difference operators and show that the polynomials arising in the corresponding ways from our new operators are respectively the multifundamentals $\overline{F}_a$ of Lam and Pylyavskyy from arXiv:0705.2189, the fundamental glides $\overline{\mathfrak{F}}_a$ from of Pechenik and Searles from arXiv:1611.02545, and the kaons $\overline{\mathfrak{P}}_a$ of Monical, Pechenik, and Searles from arXiv:1806.03802.

Cauchy identities for Grothendieck polynomials and a dual RSK correspondence through pipe dreams
The Cauchy identity gives a recipe for decomposing a double Grothendieck polynomial $\mathfrak{G}^{(β)}_w(x;y)$ as a sum of products $\mathfrak{G}^{(β)}_v(x)\mathfrak{G}^{(β)}_u(y)$ of single Grothendieck polynomials. Combinatorially, this identity suggests the existence of a weight-preserving bijection between certain families of diagrams called pipe dreams. In this paper, we provide such a bijection using an algorithm called pipe dream rectification. In turn, rectification is built from a new class of flow operators which themselves exhibit a surprising symmetry. Finally, we examine other applications of rectification including an insertion algorithm on pipe dreams which recovers a variant of the dual RSK correspondence.

Changing Bases with Pipe Dream Combinatorics
Lascoux and Schützenberger introduced Schubert and Grothendieck polynomials to study the cohomology and K-theory of the complete flag variety. We present explicit combinatorial rules for expressing Grothendieck polynomials in the basis of Schubert polynomials, and vice versa, using the bumpless pipe dreams (BPDs) of Lam, Lee, and Shimozono. A key advantage of BPDs is that they are naturally back stable, which allows us to give a combinatorial formula for expanding back stable Grothendieck polynomials in terms of back stable Schubert polynomials. We also provide pipe dream interpretations for the rules originally given by Lenart (Grothendieck to Schubert) and Lascoux (Schubert to Grothendieck), which were previously formulated in terms of binary triangular arrays. We give new proofs of these results, relying on Knutson's co-transition recurrences. As a consequence, we obtain a formula for expanding Grothendieck polynomials into Schubert polynomials using chains in Bruhat order. The key connection between the pipe dream and BPD change of basis formulas is the canonical bijection of Gao and Huang. We show that co-permutations are preserved by this map.

Hybrid Grothendieck polynomials
For a skew shape $λ/μ$, we define the hybrid Grothendieck polynomial $${G}_{λ/μ}(\textbf{x};\textbf{t};\textbf{w}) =\sum_{T\in \mathrm{SVRPP}(λ/μ)} \textbf{x}^{\mathrm{ircont}(T)}\textbf{t}^{\mathrm{ceq} (T)}\textbf{w}^{\mathrm{ex}(T)}$$ as a weight generating function over set-valued reverse plane partitions of shape $λ/μ$. It specializes to \begin{itemize} \item[(1)] the refined stable Grothendieck polynomial introduced by Chan--Pflueger by setting all $t_i=0$; \item[(2)] the refined dual stable Grothendieck polynomial introduced by Galashin--Grinberg--Liu by setting all $w_i=0$. \end{itemize} We show that ${G}_{λ/μ}(\textbf{x};\textbf{t};\textbf{w})$ is symmetric in the $\textbf{x}$ variables. By building a crystal structure on set-valued reverse plane partitions, we obtain the expansion of ${G}_{λ/μ}(\textbf{x};\textbf{t};\textbf{w})$ in the basis of Schur functions, extending previous work by Monical--Pechenik--Scrimshaw and Galashin. Based on the Schur expansion, we deduce that hybrid Grothendieck polynomials of straight shapes have saturated Newton polytopes. Finally, using Fomin--Greene's theory on noncommutative Schur functions, we give a combinatorial formula for the image of ${G}_{λ/μ}(\textbf{x};\textbf{t};\textbf{w})$ (in the case $t_i=α$ and $w_i=β$) under the omega involution on symmetric functions. The formula unifies the structures of weak set-valued tableaux and valued-set tableaux introduced by Lam--Pylyavskyy. Several problems and conjectures are motivated and discussed.

Permutons from Demazure Products
We construct and analyze several new families of permutons arising from random processes involving the Demazure product on the symmetric group. First, we consider Demazure products associated to random pipe dreams, generalizing the Grothendieck permutons introduced by Morales, Panova, Petrov, and Yeliussizov by replacing staircase shapes with arbitrary order-convex shapes. Using the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) with geometric jumps, we prove precise scaling limit and fluctuation results for the associated height functions, showing that these models belong to the Kardar--Parisi--Zhang (KPZ) universality class. We then consider permutons obtained by applying deterministic sequences of bubble-sort operators to random initial permutations. We again provide precise descriptions of the limiting permutons. In a special case, we deduce the exact forms of the standard bubble-sort permutons, the supports of which were computed by DiFranco. A crucial tool in our analysis is a formulation, due to Chan and Pflueger, of the Demazure product as matrix multiplication in the min-plus tropical semiring. This allows us to define a Demazure product on the set of permutons. We discuss further applications of this product. For instance, we show that the number of inversions of the Demazure product of two independent uniformly random permutations of size $n$ is $\binom{n}{2}(1-o(1))$.

A contratableau model for K-theoretic Littlewood-Richardson rule
Published • View Publication • BIB
The K-theoretic Littlewood-Richardson rule, established by A. Buch, is a combinatorial method for counting the structure constants involved in the product of two Grothendieck polynomials of Grassmannian type. In this paper, we provide an explicit combinatorial formula in terms of set-valued contratableau for the K-theoretic Littlewood-Richardson rule generalizing contratableau model for the classical Littlewood-Richardson rule given by Carré.

Log-Concavity of the Grothendieck Classes of Banana Graphs and Clasped Necklaces
Published • View Publication • BIB
The Grothendieck classes of melonic graphs satisfy a recursive relation and may be written as polynomials in the class of the moduli space $\mathcal{M}_{0,4}$ with nonnegative integer coefficients, conjectured to be log-concave. In this article, we investigate log-concavity and ultra-log-concavity for the Grothendieck class of banana graphs and the three families of polynomials involved in the recursive relation. We prove that all four are log-concave, establishing the specific case of banana graphs for the log-concavity conjecture. We additionally introduce the infinite family of clasped necklaces, melonic graphs obtained by replacing an edge of a $2$-banana with a string of $m$-bananas. Using the recursive relation, we explicitly compute the classes of clasped necklaces and prove that they too are log-concave.

Combinatorial proofs of the type A quiver component formulas
Published • View Publication • BIB
The K-theoretic quiver component formula expresses the K-polynomial of a type A quiver locus as an alternating sum of products of double Grothendieck polynomials. This formula was conjectured by A. Buch and R. Rimányi and later proved by R. Kinser, A. Knutson, and the second author. We provide a new proof of this formula which replaces Gröbner degenerations by combinatorics. Along the way, we obtain a new proof of A. Buch and R. Rimányi's cohomological quiver component formula. Again, our proof replaces geometric techniques by combinatorics.

Lawvere's fourth open problem: Levels in the topos of symmetric simplicial sets
In the topos of simplicial sets, it makes sense to ask the following question about a given natural number $n$: what is the minimum value $m$ such that $n$-skeletality implies $m$-coskeletality? This is an instance of the Aufhebung relation in the sense of Lawvere, who introduced this notion for an arbitrary Grothendieck topos $\mathcal{E}$ in place of $\mathbf{sSet}$, and levels/essential subtopoi in place of dimensions. We compute this Aufhebung relation for the topos of symmetric simplicial sets. In particular, we show that it is given by $2l-1$ for the level labelled by $l\geq 3$, which coincides with the previously known case of simplicial sets. This result provides a solution to the fourth of the seven open problems in topos theory posed by Lawvere in 2009.

Quantum integrable model for the quantum cohomology/K-theory of flag varieties and the double $β$-Grothendieck polynomials
A GL$(n)$ quantum integrable system generalizing the asymmetric five vertex spin chain is shown to encode the ring relations of the equivariant quantum cohomology and equivariant quantum K-theory ring of flag varieties. We also show that the Bethe ansatz states of this system generate the double $β$-Grothendieck polynomials.

Orthogonality of spin $q$-Whittaker polynomials
The inhomogeneous spin $q$-Whittaker polynomials are a family of symmetric polynomials which generalize the Macdonald polynomials at $t=0$. In this paper we prove that they are orthogonal with respect to a variant of the Sklyanin measure on the $n$ dimensional torus and as a result they form a basis of the space of symmetric polynomials in $n$ variables. Instrumental to the proof are inhomogeneous eigenrelations, which partially generalize those of Macdonald polynomials. We also consider several special cases of the inhomogeneous spin $q$-Whittaker polynomials, which include variants of symmetric Grothendieck polynomials or spin Whittaker functions.

Grothendieck positivity for normal square root crystals
Published • View Publication • BIB
Normal crystals (also known as Stembridge crystals) are commonly used to establish the Schur positivity of symmetric functions, as their characters are sums of Schur polynomials. In this paper, we develop a combinatorial framework for a novel family of objects called normal square root crystals, which are closely related to symmetric Grothendieck functions, the $K$-theoretic analogue of Schur functions. Among other applications, this tool leads to a new proof of Buch's combinatorial rule for the multiplication of symmetric Grothendieck functions. The definition of a normal square root crystal, originally formulated by the first two authors, largely mirrors that of normal crystals. Our main result is to show that the character of such a crystal is always a sum of symmetric Grothendieck polynomials. The proof relies on an unexpected connection between the raising operators for our crystals and the Hecke insertion algorithm developed by Buch, Kresch, Shimozono, Tamvakis, and Yong.

Stability of products of double Grothendieck polynomials
Published • View Publication • BIB
We prove that products of double Grothendieck polynomials have the same back- and forward-stability numbers as products of Schubert polynomials, characterize which simple reflections appear in such products, and also give a new proof of a finiteness conjecture of Lam-Lee-Shimozono on products of back-stable Grothendieck polynomials which was first proved by Anderson. To do this, we use the main theorems from our recent work, as well as expansion formulas of Lenart, Fomin-Kirillov, and Lam-Lee-Shimozono.

Tableau formula for vexillary double Edelman--Greene coefficients
Published • View Publication • BIB
Lam, Lee and Shimozono recently introduced backstable double Grothendieck polynomials to represent $K$-theory classes of the infinite flag variety. They used them to define double $β$-Stanley symmetric functions, which expand into double stable Grothendieck functions with polynomial coefficients called double $β$-Edelman--Greene coefficients. Anderson proved these coefficients are $β$-Graham positive. For vexillary permutations, this is equivalent to a statement for skew flagged double $β$-Grothendieck functions. Working in this setting, we give a tableau formula for vexillary double $β$-Edelman--Greene coefficients that is manifestly $β$-Graham positive. Our formula demonstrates a finer notion of positivity than was previously known.

On some Grothendieck expansions
Published • View Publication • BIB
The complete flag variety admits a natural action by both the orthogonal group and the symplectic group. Wyser and Yong defined orthogonal Grothendieck polynomials $\mathfrak{G}^{\mathsf{O}}_z$ and symplectic Grothendieck polynomials $\mathfrak{G}^{\mathsf{Sp}}_z$ as the $K$-theory classes of the corresponding orbit closures. There is an explicit formula to expand $\mathfrak{G}^{\mathsf{Sp}}_z$ as a nonnegative sum of Grothendieck polynomials $\mathfrak{G}^{(β)}_w$, which represent the $K$-theory classes of Schubert varieties. Although the constructions of $\mathfrak{G}^{\mathsf{Sp}}_z$ and $\mathfrak{G}^{\mathsf{O}}_z$ are similar, finding the $\mathfrak{G}^{(β)}$-expansion of $\mathfrak{G}^{\mathsf{O}}_z$ or even computing $\mathfrak{G}^{\mathsf{O}}_z$ is much harder. If $z$ is vexillary then $\mathfrak{G}^{\mathsf{O}}_z$ has a nonnegative $\mathfrak{G}^{(β)}$-expansion, but the associated coefficients are mostly unknown. This paper derives several new formulas for $\mathfrak{G}^{\mathsf{O}}_z$ and its $\mathfrak{G}^{(β)}$-expansion when $z$ is vexillary. Among other applications, we prove that the latter expansion has a nontrivial stability property.

Young diagrams, deformed Calogero-Moser systems and Cayley graphs
Let ${\mathtt{k}}$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero and $n, m$ coprime positive integers. Let ${\stackrel{\rm o}{\mathfrak{g}}}$ be the Lie superalgebra ${\mathfrak{gl}}(n|m)$ with root system $Δ$. Using $Δ$, Sergeev and Veselov, \cite{SV2} introduced an action of the Weyl groupoid ${\mathcal{W}}$, in connection with their study of the the Grothendieck group of finite dimensinonal graded $\mathfrak{g}$-modules. We denote the subgroupoid of ${\mathcal{W}}$ with morphisms corresponding to isotropic roots by $\mathfrak T_{iso}$. Later, \cite{SV101} the same authors defined an action of ${\mathcal{W}}$ on $X={\mathtt{k}}^{n|m}$ such that the invariant algebra ${\mathcal{O}}(X)^{\mathcal{W}}$ is isomorphic to the algebra of quantum integrals for the deformed Calogero-Moser system introduced in \cite{SV1}. This completely integrable system depends on a non-zero parameter $κ$. When $κ=-m/n$ we study a certain infinite $\mathfrak T_{iso}$-orbit {\bf O} for this action. %which appears in \cite{SV101} Equation (14). The Cayley graph for this orbit is isomorphic to the Cayley graphs for two other actions of $\mathfrak T_{iso}$ which were studied in \cite{M23}.
