Grothendieck Weights on Permutohedral Varieties and Matroids
Grothendieck weights, introduced by Shah, are $K$-theoretic analogues of Minkowski weights on smooth toric varieties. We study Grothendieck weights on the permutohedral fan and prove two main results: a $K$-balancing condition that characterizes Grothendieck weights by a finite system of linear equations, and an explicit product rule for the ring structure. We apply this framework to matroids, giving a combinatorial characterization of Grothendieck weights on matroidal fans. As the main application, we compute the motivic Chern class of the hyperplane arrangement complement in its wonderful compactification and show that the result depends only on the matroid, not on the realization. This allows us to extend the definition of the motivic Chern class to all loopless matroids.
Linearly distributive coherence in the absence of units
Coherence in a monoidal category asserts that all morphisms built from structural isomorphisms with a fixed source and target coincide. These structural isomorphisms include, in particular, the associators. Linearly distributive categories carry two tensor products, with structural morphisms given by associators and distributors relating the two tensor products. In several examples, including Grothendieck--Verdier categories, also known as $\ast$-autonomous categories, these distributors need not be invertible.
We give a self-contained proof that linearly distributive categories without units are coherent, while units may obstruct coherence. With the same techniques, we also establish an analogous coherence result for Frobenius linearly distributive functors without units. These results admit a reformulation in terms of directed paths in associahedra and multiplihedra.
The interval neighborhoods in the real Grothendieck groups
For a finite dimensional algebra $A$, the TF equivalence on the real Grothendieck group $K_0(\operatorname{\mathsf{proj}} A)_\mathbb{R}$ can be regarded as a completion of the $g$-fan. For example, the silting cones $C^\circ(U)$ of 2-term presilting complexes $U$ give the most fundamental family of TF equivalence classes. The next step is studying the TF equivalence classes around each silting cone $C^\circ(U)$. Thus, in this paper, we investigate the closed interval neighborhood $D(U)$ of $C^\circ(U)$. As our main result, we give a $2^{|U|}:1$ correspondence between the TF equivalence classes in $D(U)$ and those in $K_0(\operatorname{\mathsf{proj}} B)_\mathbb{R}$, where $B$ is the algebra appearing in the $τ$-tilting reduction at $U$. For this purpose, we give an explicit description of defining inequalities and the faces of $D(U)$ as a polyhedral cone, by using 2-term simple-minded collections and $M$-TF equivalences.
Neutral-Fermion constructions of factorial $gp$-and $gq$-Functions
We develop neutral-fermionic constructions for the factorial $gp$- and $gq$-functions introduced by Nakagawa and Naruse, which are respectively dual to the factorial $GQ$- and $GP$-functions of Ikeda and Naruse. In particular, we realize the factorial $GP$-, $GQ$- and $gq$-functions as vacuum expectation values. As applications, we obtain, Jacobi--Trudi type determinantal formulas for the transition coefficients between functions with different equivariant parameters for $gq$ and its dual $GP$, as well as a Pfaffian formula for the factorial $gq$-functions. We further prove a remarkable coincidence among the transition coefficients for parameter changes for $gp$, $gq$, $GQ$, and $GP$. These coefficients admit a description in terms of factorial Grothendieck polynomials of type A.
Computation and sampling for Schubert specializations
We present computational results on principal specializations $\mathfrak{S}_w(1^n)$ of Schubert polynomials, which count reduced pipe dreams and reduced bumpless pipe dreams (RBPD). We find the first counterexample, at $n=17$, to the Merzon-Smirnov conjecture (arXiv:1410.6857) that the maximum of $\mathfrak{S}_w(1^n)$ over $S_n$ is attained at a layered permutation. The simulations suggest that $\lim_{n \to \infty} \log(\max_{w\in S_n}\mathfrak{S}_w(1^n))/n^2$ equals the maximal layered permutations' constant from Morales-Pak-Panova (arXiv:1805.04341). We also explore the random permutation drawn from the distribution proportional to $\mathfrak{S}_w(1^n)$, revealing permuton-like asymptotics similar to those for Grothendieck polynomials by Morales-Panova-Petrov-Yeliussizov (arXiv:2407.21653).
We implement and compare three recurrences for $\mathfrak{S}_w(1^n)$: the descent formula (Macdonald), transition formula (Lascoux--Schutzenberger), and cotransition formula (Knutson). For sampling uniformly random RBPDs (whose count is $\sum_{w\in S_n} \mathfrak{S}_w(1^n)$), we show that reducedness breaks the sublattice property of the ASM lattice, preventing monotone CFTP and causing false coalescence. We develop an efficient MCMC sampler with macroscopic "droop" updates for connectivity and fast mixing. Our code computes $\mathfrak{S}_w(1^n)$ up to $n\sim 20$ and samples random RBPDs up to $n\sim 60$ on a personal computer ($n\sim 100$ on a cluster).
Pólya enumeration, wreath product symmetric functions, and moduli spaces of curves
We develop a calculus for $S_n$-equivariant Euler characteristics of moduli spaces of stable curves and stable maps. Our approach involves an enrichment of Pólya's cycle index polynomial of a graph to a certain algebra $Λ^{[2]}$ of wreath product symmetric functions. Building on foundational work of Macdonald, we prove that $Λ^{[2]}$ may be viewed as the Grothendieck ring of the category of polynomial functors which map symmetric sequences of vector spaces to vector spaces. This interpretation gives rise to an action of $Λ^{[2]}$ on the ordinary ring of symmetric functions $Λ$, which is described concretely in terms of Adams operations and skewing by power sums. This action lets us deduce appealing formulas, involving only ordinary symmetric functions, for generating functions of $S_n$-equivariant Euler characteristics.
Supports of Castelnuovo-Mumford polynomials
The Castelnuovo-Mumford polynomials are the maximal degree components of Grothendieck polynomials. The support of each Castelnuovo-Mumford polynomial is conjectured to be M-convex, i.e. the set of integer points of a generalized permutahedron (Mészáros and St. Dizier, 2020). This conjecture is known to hold in certain special cases but remains open in general. We define new families of permutations whose Castelnuovo-Mumford polynomials we show to have M-convex support. Specifically, we investigate which permutations have Castelnuovo-Mumford polynomials whose supports are the set of integer points in a schubitope.
Poset modules of the $0$-Hecke algebras of type $B$
In 2001, Chow developed the theory of the $B_n$ posets $P$ and the type $B$ $P$-partition enumerators $K^B_P$. To provide a representation-theoretic interpretation of $K^B_P$, we define the poset modules $M^B_P$ of the 0-Hecke algebra $H_n^B(0)$ of type $B$ by endowing the set of type-$B$ linear extensions of $P$ with an $H_n^B(0)$-action. We then show that the Grothendieck group of the category associated to type-$B$ poset modules is isomorphic to the space of type $B$ quasisymmetric functions as both a $\mathrm{QSym}$-module and comodule, where $\mathrm{QSym}$ denotes the Hopf algebra of quasisymmetric functions. Considering an equivalence relation on $B_n$ posets, where two posets are equivalent if they share the same set of type-$B$ linear extensions, we identify a natural representative of each equivalence class, which we call a distinguished poset. We further characterize the distinguished posets whose sets of type-$B$ linear extensions form intervals in the right weak Bruhat order on the the hyperoctahedral groups. Finally, we discuss the relationship among the categories associated to type-$B$ weak Bruhat interval modules, $B_n$ poset modules, and finite-dimensional $H_n^B(0)$-modules.
Staircase hook-length ratios and special values of Jacobi polynomials
We relate hook-length products for adjacent staircase partitions to special values of Jacobi polynomials. This connection expresses the number of semistandard tableaux in terms of Jacobi polynomials defined via Gauss hypergeometric functions. From this identity, we derive the special values of stable Grothendieck polynomials and $K$-theoretic Schur $P$-functions indexed by adjacent staircase partitions. These values provide ratios of the numbers of set-valued and shifted set-valued semistandard tableaux. This connection is further clarified by the theory of excited Young diagrams, which characterizes the coefficients in these specializations.
Positive specializations of K-theoretic Schur P- and Q-functions
Yeliussizov has classified the positive specializations of symmetric Grothendieck functions, defined in several different ways, providing a K-theoretic lift of the classical Edrei-Thoma theorem. This note studies the analogous classification problem for Ikeda and Naruse's K-theoretic Schur P- and Q-functions, which are the shifted versions of symmetric Grothendieck functions. Our results extend a shifted variant of the Edrei-Thoma theorem due to Nazarov. We also discuss an application to the problem of determining the extreme harmonic functions on a filtered version of the shifted Young lattice.
Permutations with only reduced co-BPDs
Bumpless pipe dreams (BPDs) are combinatorial objects used in the study of Schubert and Grothendieck polynomials. Weigandt recently introduced a co-BPD object associated to each BPD and used them to give an analogue to the change of bases formulas of Lenart and Lascoux between these polynomials. She posed the problem of characterizing the set of permutations whose BPDs have only reduced co-BPDs. We give a pattern-avoidance characterization for these permutations using a set of seven patterns.
The Grothendieck Group of the Variety of Spanning Line Configurations
We study the Grothendieck group of the variety $X_{n,k}$ of spanning line configurations introduced by Pawlowski--Rhoades [arXiv:1711.08301] as a geometric model for the generalized coinvariant algebra $R_{n,k}$. Our first result is a localization statement in $K$-theory for the complements of cell closures in smooth cellular varieties. Combining with the Fulton--Lascoux degeneracy loci formula, we prove that $K_0(X_{n,k})$ is canonically isomorphic to $R_{n,k}$, extending classical isomorphisms for the flag variety. We next identify the classes of the Pawlowski--Rhoades varieties with Grothendieck polynomials associated to words $w \in [k]^n$. Motivated by this identification, we develop models of classical and bumpless pipe dreams for words. We show that Schubert and Grothendieck polynomials of words are monomial-weight generating functions for these pipe dreams, extending the classical story from permutations to words and ordered set partitions.
Classical double Grothendieck transitions
Kirillov and Naruse have constructed double Grothendieck polynomials to represent the equivariant K-theory classes of Schubert varieties in the complete flag manifolds of types B, C, and D. We derive a recursive formula for these polynomials, extending certain K-theoretic transition equations known in type A to all classical types. As an application, we obtain an identity that expands the K-Stanley symmetric functions in types B, C, and D into positive linear combinations of K-theoretic Schur P- and Q-functions. We also resolve several positivity conjectures related to the skew generalizations of the latter functions.
Flagged Hamel--Goulden formulas
We obtain Hamel--Goulden-type ribbon decomposition determinantal formulas for flagged supersymmetric Schur functions. As an application, we derive corresponding new determinantal formulas dual refined canonical stable Grothendieck polynomials. These results generalize and produce a number of new determinantal formulas for these symmetric functions including Jacobi--Trudi and skew Giambelli-type determinants.
Inhomogeneous $q$-Whittaker Polynomials I: Duality and Expansions
We introduce a new family of symmetric polynomials $\mathfrak{G}^{(\mathbf{u},\mathbf{v})}_λ$ arising from exactly solvable lattice models associated with the quantised loop algebra $\mathcal{U}_{q}(\mathfrak{sl}_{2}[z^\pm])$. The polynomials $\mathfrak{G}^{(\mathbf{u},\mathbf{v})}_λ$ unify $q$-Whittaker polynomials, inhomogeneous $q$-Whittaker polynomials, Grothendieck polynomials and their duals. Using Yang--Baxter equation, we derive Cauchy identities and combinatorial formulas for the transition coefficients.

We find a layered permutation $w\in S_n$ whose Schubert polynomial $\mathfrak S_w(x_1, \dots, x_n)$ has support of size asymptotically at least $n!/4^n$. This gives precise asymptotics for the growth rate of $β(n):= \max_{w\in S_n}|\mathrm{supp}(\mathfrak S_w)|$. We find a different layered permutation $w\in S_n$ whose Grothendieck polynomial has support of size asymptotically at least $n!/e^{\sqrt{2n} \cdot \ln(n)}$ and obtain more precise asymptotics for the growth rate of $β^{\mathfrak G}(n):=\max_{w\in S_n}|\mathrm{supp}(\mathfrak G_w)|$.
A note on canonical stable Grothendieck functions
In this article, we offer a new way to prove the Murnaghan-Nakayama type rule for the stable Grothendieck polynomials, originally established by Nguyen-Hiep-Son-Thuy. Additionally, we establish a Murnaghan-Nakayama type rule for cannoical stable Grothendieck functions.
On the Martin boundary for discrete TASEP
We study a problem with three equivalent formulations: describing Gibbs measures for five-vertex model in quadrant; classifying coherent systems on a p-deformation of the Gelfand-Tsetlin graph related to Grothendieck polynomials; finding the Martin boundary for discrete time TASEP with p-geometric jumps. We find a wide family of the Gibbs measures, parameterized by certain analytic functions. A subset of our measures have probabilistic interpretation as interacting particle systems with fixed particles speeds. In contrast to previous related boundary problems, we find that admissible speeds are not arbitrary, but must be larger than $\frac{p}{1-p}$. For this subset we further establish Law of Large Numbers and Central Limit Theorem, connecting the fluctuations to families of independent GUE eigenvalues. As a consequence, the measures from the subset are extreme points of the Martin boundary. It remains open whether our list of measures is exhaustive.
Pairs of tree dessins, their Shabat polynomials, and monodromy groups
Coverings of the Riemann sphere by itself, ramified over two points, are given by so-called Shabat polynomials. The correspondence between Grothendieck's dessins d'enfants and Belyi maps then implies a bijection between Shabat polynomials and tree dessins (bicolored plane trees). Dessins can be assigned a combinatorial invariant known as their passport, which records the degrees of their vertices. We consider all possible passports determining a pair of tree dessins, determining the associated Shabat polynomials and monodromy groups.
Combinatorial Aspects of Elliptic Schubert Calculus
The main goal of this paper is to extend two fundamental combinatorial results in Schubert calculus on flag manifolds from equivariant cohomology and $K$-theory to equivariant elliptic cohomology. The foundations of elliptic Schubert calculus were laid in a few relatively recent papers by Rimányi, Weber, and Kumar. They include the recursive construction of elliptic Schubert classes via generalizations of the cohomology and $K$-theory push-pull operators and the study of the corresponding Demazure algebra. We derive a Billey-type formula for the localization of elliptic Schubert classes (for partial flag manifolds of arbitrary type) and a pipe dream model for their polynomial representatives in the case of type $A$ flag manifolds. The latter extends the pipe dream model for double Schubert and Grothendieck polynomials. We also study the degeneration of elliptic Schubert classes to $K$-theory, which recovers the corresponding classical formulas.
