A Non-Multiplicable Upho Poset Constructed from the Petersen Graph
An upper homogeneous (upho) poset is a poset whose every principal filter is isomorphic to the whole poset. Fu--Peng--Zhang conjectured that every finitary upho poset admits a compatible left-cancellative, invertible-free monoid structure whose left-divisibility order coincides with the given order. We disprove this conjecture. For every vertex-transitive graph $G$, we construct a finitary upho poset $P(G,v_0)$ from walks starting at a fixed vertex $v_0$. Applying this construction to the Petersen graph, we show that multiplicability of $P(G,v_0)$ would force the automorphism group of $G$ to contain a regular subgroup. This would imply that $G$ is a Cayley graph, contradicting the fact that the Petersen graph is not Cayley. Hence $P(G,v_0)$ is a non-multiplicable finitary upho poset. We also show that the analogous poset associated with the line graph of the Petersen graph is multiplicable, demonstrating that non-Cayleyness of the underlying graph alone does not determine multiplicability.
Sprout Symmetric Functions: Part 1
A \emph{sprout sequence} is a sequence $\frakr=(R_0=1,R_1,R_2,\dots)$ of symmetric functions in the variables $\bmx=(x_1,x_2,\dots)$ over a field $K$ generated from a power series $F(t)=1+a_1t+a_2t^2+\cdots$ by the rule $\sum_{n\geq 0}R_nt^n = \prod_{i\geq 1} F(x_it)$. The power series $F(t)$ is called the \emph{seed} of $\frakr$. This concept originated in the work of Littlewood and Richardson (though not with the name ``sprout sequence''), and numerous examples of sprout sequences have appeared in the literature. They are related to chromatic Tutte polynomials of complete graphs and complete hypergraphs, binomial posets, upper homogeneous (upho) posets, topological genera, etc. We first develop the basic theory of sprout sequences and then look at the special case $F(t)=\sec(\sqrt{t})$. We give five characterizations of sprout sequences and consider the expansion of sprout symmetric functions in terms of well-known symmetric function bases. The Schur positivity, elementary symmetric function positivity, and complete homogeneous symmetric function positivity of $R_n$ for all $n$ are completely characterized using the Edrei-Thoma theorem from the theory of total positivity. The seed $F(t)=\sec(\sqrt{t})$ is especially interesting. The expansion of $R_n$ in the power sum or monomial basis is related to alternating permutations. The Schur function expansion is related to standard Young skew tableaux. The expansion in terms of the complete symmetric functions has nonnegative integer coefficients, but we don't know a combinatorial interpretation. Finally we give a formula for $R_n$ as a sum of chromatic symmetric functions of interval orders.

The monoid representation of upho posets and total positivity
We show that all totally positive formal power series with integer coefficients and constant term $1$ are precisely the rank-generating functions of Schur-positive upho posets, thereby resolving the main conjecture proposed by Gao, Guo, Seetharaman, and Seidel. To achieve this, we construct a bijection between finitary colored upho posets and atomic, left-cancellative, invertible-free monoids, which restricts to a correspondence between $\mathbb{N}$-graded colored upho posets and left-cancellative homogeneous monoids. Furthermore, we introduce semi-upho posets and develop a convolution operation on colored upho posets with colored semi-upho posets within this monoid-theoretic framework.

A note on Möbius functions of upho posets

A poset is called upper homogeneous (or "upho") if every principal order filter of the poset is isomorphic to the whole poset. We observe that the rank and characteristic generating functions of upho posets are multiplicative inverses of one another.
The Rank-Generating Functions of Upho Posets
Published • View Publication • BIB
Upper homogeneous finite type (upho) posets are a large class of partially ordered sets with the property that the principal order filter at every vertex is isomorphic to the whole poset. Well-known examples include k-array trees, the grid graphs, and the Stern poset. Very little is known about upho posets in general. In this paper, we construct upho posets with Schur-positive Ehrenborg quasisymmetric functions, whose rank-generating functions have rational poles and zeros. We also categorize the rank-generating functions of all planar upho posets. Finally, we prove the existence of an upho poset with uncomputable rank-generating function.
