Hall-Littlewood polynomials, affine Schubert series, and lattice enumeration
We introduce multivariate rational generating series called Hall-Littlewood-Schubert ($\mathsf{HLS}_n$) series. They are defined in terms of polynomials related to Hall-Littlewood polynomials and semistandard Young tableaux. We show that $\mathsf{HLS}_n$ series provide solutions to a range of enumeration problems upon judicious substitutions of their variables. These include the problem to enumerate sublattices of a $p$-adic lattice according to the elementary divisor types of their intersections with the members of a complete flag of reference in the ambient lattice. This is an affine analog of the stratification of Grassmannians by Schubert varieties. Other substitutions of $\mathsf{HLS}_n$ series yield new formulae for Hecke series and $p$-adic integrals associated with symplectic $p$-adic groups, and combinatorially defined quiver representation zeta functions. $\mathsf{HLS}_n$ series are $q$-analogs of Hilbert series of Stanley-Reisner rings associated with posets arising from parabolic quotients of Coxeter groups of type $\mathsf{B}$ with the Bruhat order. Special values of coarsened $\mathsf{HLS}_n$ series yield analogs of the classical Littlewood identity for the generating functions of Schur polynomials.

We give a criterion for a collection of polynomials to be a universal Gröbner basis for an ideal in terms of the multidegree of the closure of the corresponding affine variety in $(\mathbb{P}^1)^N$. This criterion can be used to give simple proofs of several existing results on universal Gröbner bases. We introduce fine Schubert polynomials, which record the multidegrees of the closures of matrix Schubert varieties in $(\mathbb{P}^1)^{n^2}$. We compute the fine Schubert polynomials of permutations $w$ where the coefficients of the Schubert polynomials of $w$ and $w^{-1}$ are all either 0 or 1, and we use this to give a universal Gröbner basis for the ideal of the matrix Schubert variety of such a permutation.
Schubert Calculus and the Heisenberg Algebra
We show that the Hilbert space with basis indexed by infinite permutations and the cohomology ring of the infinite flag variety can be seen as representations of the Heisenberg algebra, which are isomorphic using the back-stable Schubert polynomials. We give a model for infinite permutations as certain two dimensional fermions, generalizing the Maya diagram construction for partitions. Under this framework, the pipedream model for Schubert polynomials can be viewed as the Hamiltonian time evolution of the 2D fermions.
Multiprojective Seshadri stratifications for Schubert varieties and standard monomial theory
Using the language of Seshadri stratifications we develop a geometrical interpretation of Lakshmibai-Seshadri-tableaux and their associated standard monomial bases. These tableaux are a generalization of Young-tableaux and De-Concini-tableaux to all Dynkin types. More precisely, we construct filtrations of multihomogeneous coordinate rings of Schubert varieties, such that the subquotients are one-dimensional and indexed by standard tableaux.
From Schubert Varieties to Doubly-Spherical Varieties
Horospherical Schubert varieties are determined. It is shown that the stabilizer of an arbitrary point in a Schubert variety is a strongly solvable algebraic group. The connectedness of this stabilizer subgroup is discussed. Moreover, a new family of spherical varieties, called doubly spherical varieties, is introduced. It is shown that every nearly toric Schubert variety is doubly spherical.
Hyperplane Arrangements in the Grassmannian
The Euler characteristic of a very affine variety encodes the algebraic complexity of solving likelihood (or scattering) equations on this variety. We study this quantity for the Grassmannian with $d$ hyperplane sections removed. We provide a combinatorial formula, and explain how to compute this Euler characteristic in practice, both symbolically and numerically. Our particular focus is on generic hyperplane sections and on Schubert divisors. We also consider special Schubert arrangements relevant for physics. We study both the complex and the real case.

In this chapter, we give an overview of Billey-Postnikov (BP) decompositions which have become an important tool for understanding the geometry and combinatorics of Schubert varieties. BP decompositions are factorizations of Coxeter group elements with many nice properties in relation to Bruhat partial order. They have played an important role in the classification and enumeration of smooth Schubert varieties. They have also been used in the study of inversion hyperplane arrangements and permutation pattern avoidance. We survey many of these applications.
A superpotential for Grassmannian Schubert varieties
While mirror symmetry for flag varieties and Grassmannians has been extensively studied, Schubert varieties in the Grassmannian are singular, and hence standard mirror symmetry statements are not well-defined. Nevertheless, in this article we introduce a ``superpotential'' $W^λ$ for each Grassmannian Schubert variety $X_λ$, generalizing the Marsh-Rietsch superpotential for Grassmannians, and we show that $W^λ$ governs many toric degenerations of $X_λ$. We also generalize the ``polytopal mirror theorem'' for Grassmannians from our previous work: namely, for any cluster seed $G$ for $X_λ$, we construct a corresponding Newton-Okounkov convex body $Δ_G^λ$, and show that it coincides with the superpotential polytope $Γ_G^λ$, that is, it is cut out by the inequalities obtained by tropicalizing an associated Laurent expansion of $W^λ$. This gives us a toric degeneration of the Schubert variety $X_λ$ to the (singular) toric variety $Y(\mathcal{N}_λ)$ of the Newton-Okounkov body. Finally, for a particular cluster seed $G=G^λ_{\mathrm{rec}}$ we show that the toric variety $Y(\mathcal{N}_λ)$ has a small toric desingularisation, and we describe an intermediate partial desingularisation $Y(\mathcal{F}_λ)$ that is Gorenstein Fano. Many of our results extend to more general varieties in the Grassmannian.
Multiprojective Seshadri stratifications and Young-tableaux
We provide an algebraic-geometrical interpretation of the classical semistandard Young-tableaux via the notion of Seshadri stratifications. The columns appearing in such a tableau correspond to vanishing multiplicities of certain rational functions on Schubert varieties. To build a framework for this correspondence we generalize Seshadri stratifications to multiprojective varieties, which forms the largest part of this article.

Revisiting Kraśkiewicz and Pragacz's construction of Schubert modules, we provide a new proof that their characters are equal to Schubert polynomials. The main innovation is a representation-theoretic interpretation of a recurrence relation for Schubert polynomials recently discovered by Nadeau, Spink, and Tewari. Along the way, we review several related constructions, and show that the Nadeau-Spink-Tewari recursion determines the characters of flagged Schur modules coming from a broader class of translucent diagrams.

We study the torus equivariant K-homology ring of the affine Grassmannian $\mathrm{Gr}_G$ where $G$ is a connected reductive linear algebraic group. In type $A$, we introduce equivariantly deformed symmetric functions called the K-theoretic double $k$-Schur functions as the Schubert bases. The functions are constructed by Demazure operators acting on equivariant parameters. As an application, we provide a Ginzburg-Peterson type realization of the torus-equivariant K-homology ring of $\mathrm{Gr}_{{SL}_n}$ as the coordinate ring of a centralizer family for $PGL_n(\mathbb{C})$.

We study the multiplicity number of the characteristic cycle of the intersection complex of the matroid Schubert variety. It is shown to be a combinatorial invariant, and it can be computed by explicit formulas. We also conjecture that the generalization to arbitrary matroid is non-negative.
Some results related to the slide decomposition of Schubert polynomials
The expansion of a Schubert polynomial into slide polynomials corresponds to a sum over sub-balls in the subword complex. There has been recent interest in other, coarser, expansions of Schubert polynomials. We extend the methods used in [KM04] to prove that the subword complex is a ball or a sphere to a more general method, and use it to prove that the expansion of a Schubert polynomial into forest polynomials also corresponds to a sum over sub-balls in the subword complex.
When expanding the product $\mathfrak{S}_π\mathfrak{S}_ρ$ of two Schubert polynomials into Schubert polynomials $\mathfrak{S}_σ$, there is a bijection between shuffles of reduced words for $π$ and $ρ$ and reduced words for $σ$ (counted with multiplicity). We give such a bijection for Monk's rule and Sottile's Pieri rule.
We give tableau-based definitions of slide polynomials, glide polynomials, and fundamental quasisymmetric polynomials and show that the expansion of a Schur polynomial into fundamental quasisymmetric polynomials corresponds to a sum over sub-balls in the tableau complex.
The Schubert polynomials are the cohomology classes of matrix Schubert varieties, but there is no geometric explanation of the slide polynomials. We show that the slide polynomials are not (antidiagonal) Gröbner degenerations of matrix Schubert varieties, answering in the negative a question of [ST21, Section 1.4].

We show that interlacing triangular arrays, introduced by Aggarwal-Borodin-Wheeler to study certain probability measures, can be used to compute structure constants for multiplying Schubert classes in the $K$-theory of Grassmannians, in the cohomology of their cotangent bundles, and in the cohomology of partial flag varieties. Our results are achieved by establishing a splitting lemma, allowing for interlacing triangular arrays of high rank to be decomposed into arrays of lower rank, and by constructing a bijection between interlacing triangular arrays of rank 3 with certain proper vertex colorings of the triangular grid graph that factors through generalizations of Knutson-Tao puzzles. Along the way, we prove one enumerative conjecture of Aggarwal-Borodin-Wheeler and disprove another.

We study a collection of Hessenberg varieties in the type A flag variety associated to a nonzero semisimple matrix whose conjugacy class has minimal dimension. We prove each such minimal semisimple Hessenberg variety is a union Richardson varieties and compute this set of Richardson varieties explicitly. Our methods leverage the notion of matrix Hessenberg schemes to answer questions about the geometry of minimal semisimple Hessenberg varieties using commutative algebra and known results on Schubert determinantal ideals. In particular, we show that all type A minimal semisimple matrix Hessenberg schemes are reduced.

We initiate a systematic study of key-avoidance on alternating sign matrices (ASMs) defined via pattern-avoidance on an associated permutation called the \emph{key} of an ASM. We enumerate alternating sign matrices whose key avoids a given set of permutation patterns in several instances. We show that ASMs whose key avoids $231$ are permutations, thus any known enumeration for a set of permutation patterns including $231$ extends to ASMs. We furthermore enumerate by the Catalan numbers ASMs whose key avoids both $312$ and $321$. We also show ASMs whose key avoids $312$ are in bijection with the gapless monotone triangles of [Ayyer, Cori, Gouyou-Beauchamps 2011]. Thus key-avoidance generalizes the notion of $312$-avoidance studied there. Finally, we enumerate ASMs with a given key avoiding $312$ and $321$ using a connection to Schubert polynomials, thereby deriving an interesting Catalan identity.

In [Hamaker-Pechenik-Speyer-Weigandt, Nenashev, Pechenik-Weigandt] are studied certain operators on polynomials and power series that commute with all divided difference operators $\partial_i$. We introduce a second set of "martial" operators {\martial_i} that generate the full commutant, and show how a Hopf-algebraic approach naturally reproduces the operators $ξ^ν$ from [Nenashev]. We then pause to study Klyachko's homomorphism $H^*(Fl(n)) \to H^*($the permutahedral toric variety$)$, and extract the part of it relevant to Schubert calculus, the "affine-linear genus''. This genus is then re-obtained using Leibniz combinations of the {\martial_i}. We use Nadeau-Tewari's $q$-analogue of Klyachko's genus to study the equidistribution of $\ell$ and comaj on $[n]\choose k$, generalizing known results on $S_n$.
Grothendieck Shenanigans: Permutons from pipe dreams via integrable probability

We study random permutations arising from reduced pipe dreams. Our main model is motivated by Grothendieck polynomials with parameter $β=1$ arising in K-theory of the flag variety. The probability weight of a permutation is proportional to the principal specialization (setting all variables to 1) of the corresponding Grothendieck polynomial. By mapping this random permutation to a version of TASEP (Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process), we describe the limiting permuton and fluctuations around it as the order $n$ of the permutation grows to infinity. The fluctuations are of order $n^{\frac13}$ and have the Tracy-Widom GUE distribution, which places this algebraic (K-theoretic) model into the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang universality class.
We also investigate non-reduced pipe dreams and make progress on a recent open problem on the asymptotic number of inversions of the resulting permutation. Inspired by Stanley's question for the maximal value of principal specializations of Schubert polynomials, we resolve the analogous question for $β=1$ Grothendieck polynomials, and provide bounds for general $β$.
Smooth Points on Positroid Varieties
In the Grassmannian $Gr_{\mathbb{C}}(k,n)$ we have positroid varieties $Π_f$, each indexed by a bounded affine permutation $f$ and containing torus-fixed points $λ\in Π_f$. In this paper we consider the partially ordered set consisting of quadruples $(k,n,Π_f,λ)$ (or \textit{(positroid) pairs} $(Π_f,λ)$ for short). The partial order is the ordering given by the covering relation $\lessdot$ where $(Π_f',λ') \lessdot (Π_f,λ)$ if $Π_f'$ is obtained by $Π_f$ by \textit{deletion} or \textit{contraction.} Using the results of Snider [2010], we know that positroid varieties can be studied in a neighborhood of each of these points by \textit{affine pipe dreams.} Our main theorem provides a quick test of when a positroid variety is smooth at one of these given points. It is sufficient to test smoothness of a positroid variety by using the main result to test smoothness at each of these points. These results can also be applied to the question of whether Schubert varieties in flag manifolds are smooth at points given by 321-avoiding permutations, as studied in Graham/Kreimer [2020]. We have a secondary result, which describes the minimal singular positroid pairs in our ordering - these are the positroid pairs where any deletion or contraction causes it to become smooth.
Embedding bumpless pipedreams as Bruhat chains

Schubert polynomials are distinguished representatives of Schubert cycles in the cohomology of the flag variety. In the spirit of Bergeron and Sottile, we use the Bruhat order to give $(n-1)!$ different combinatorial formulas for the Schubert polynomial of a permutation in $S_n$. By work of Lenart and Sottile, one extreme of the formulas recover the classical Pipedream (PD) formula. We prove the other extreme corresponds to Bumpless pipedreams (BPDs). We give two applications of this perspective to view BPDs: Using the Fomin-Kirrilov algebra, we solve the problem of finding a BPD analogue of Fomin and Stanley's algebraic construction on PDs; We also establish a bijection between PDs and BPDs using Lenart's growth diagram, which conjectually agrees with the existing bijection of Gao and Huang.
