The polyhedral realization of crystal base has been introduced by A.Zelevinsky and the second author([T.Nakashima, A.Zelevinsky, Adv. Math. 131, no. 1 (1997)]), which describe the crystal base $B(\infty)$ as a polyhedral convex cone in the infinite $\mathbb{Z}$-lattice $\mathbb{Z}^{\infty}$. To construct the polyhedral realization, we need to fix an infinite sequence $ι$ from the indices of the simple roots. According to this $ι$, one has certain set of linear functions defining a polyhedral convex cone and under the `positivity condition' on $ι$, it has been shown that the polyhedral convex cone is isomorphic to the crystal base $B(\infty)$. To confirm the positivity condition for a given $ι$, we need to obtain the whole feature of the set of linear functions, which requires, in general, a bunch of explicit calculations. In this article, we introduce the notion of the adapted sequence and show that if $ι$ is an adapted sequence then the positivity condition holds for classical Lie algebras. Furthermore, we reveal the explicit forms of the polyhedral realizations associated with arbitrary adapted sequences $ι$ in terms of column tableaux.
Schubert Derivations on the Infinite Wedge Power
The {\em Schubert derivation} is a distinguished Hasse-Schmidt derivation on the exterior algebra of a free abelian group, encoding the formalism of Schubert calculus for all Grassmannians at once. The purpose of this paper is to extend the Schubert derivation to the infinite exterior power of a free ${\mathbb Z}$-module of infinite rank (fermionic Fock space). Classical vertex operators naturally arise from the {\em integration by parts formula}, that also recovers the generating function occurring in the {\em bosonic vertex representation} of the Lie algebra $gl_\infty({\mathbb Z})$, due to Date, Jimbo, Kashiwara and Miwa (DJKM). In the present framework, the DJKM result will be interpreted as a limit case of the following general observation: the singular cohomology of the complex Grassmannian $G(r,n)$ is an irreducible representation of the Lie algebra of $n\times n$ square matrices.}
The adjoint braid arrangement as a combinatorial Lie algebra via the Steinmann relations
We study a certain discrete differentiation of piecewise-constant functions on the adjoint of the braid hyperplane arrangement, defined by taking finite-differences across hyperplanes. In terms of Aguiar-Mahajan's Lie theory of hyperplane arrangements, we show that this structure is equivalent to the action of Lie elements on faces. We use layered binary trees to encode flags of adjoint arrangement faces, allowing for the representation of certain Lie elements by antisymmetrized layered binary forests. This is dual to the well-known use of (delayered) binary trees to represent Lie elements of the braid arrangement. The discrete derivative then induces an action of layered binary forests on piecewise-constant functions, which we call the forest derivative. Our main result states that forest derivatives of functions factorize as external products of functions precisely if one restricts to functions which satisfy the Steinmann relations, which are certain four-term linear relations appearing in the foundations of axiomatic quantum field theory. We also show that the forest derivative satisfies the Lie properties of antisymmetry the Jacobi identity. It follows from these Lie properties, and also crucially factorization, that functions which satisfy the Steinmann relations form a left comodule of the Lie cooperad, with the coaction given by the forest derivative. Dually, this endows the adjoint braid arrangement modulo the Steinmann relations with the structure of a Lie algebra internal to the category of vector species. This work is a first step towards describing new connections between Hopf theory in species and quantum field theory.

We consider a family of 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras associated to uniform complete graphs on odd number of vertices. We prove that the symmetry group of such a graph is the holomorph of the additive cyclic group $\Z_n$. Moreover, we prove that the (Lie) automorphism group of the corresponding nilpotent Lie algebra contains the dihedral group of order $2n$ as a subgroup.
Branching Rules For Splint Root Systems
A root system is splint if it is a decomposition into a union of two root systems. Examples of such root systems arise naturally in studying embeddings of reductive Lie subalgebras into simple Lie algebras. Given a splint root system, one can try to understand its branching rule. In this paper we discuss methods to understand such branching rules, and give precise formulas for specific cases, including the restriction functor from the exceptional Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}_2$ to $\mathfrak{sl}_3$.

Let $X_r$ be a finite type Dynkin diagram, and $\ell$ be a positive integer greater than or equal to two. The $Y$-system of type $X_r$ with level $\ell$ is a system of algebraic relations, whose solutions have been proved to have periodicity. For any pair $(X_r, \ell)$, we define an integer sequence called exponents using formulation of the $Y$-system by cluster algebras. We give a conjectural formula expressing the exponents by the root system of type $X_r$, and prove this conjecture for $(A_1,\ell)$ and $(A_r, 2)$ cases. We point out that a specialization of this conjecture gives a relationship between the exponents and the asymptotic dimension of an integrable highest weight module of an affine Lie algebra. We also give a point of view from $q$-series identities for this relationship.
Asymptotics of lieanders with fixed composition sizes
Lieanders are special cases of meanders and first appeared in connection with Lie algebras. Using the results from the author with E. Goujard, P. Zograf and A. Zorich, we prove a polynomial asymptotics for the number of lieanders with fixed composition sizes as the number of arches tend to infinity. The coefficients of the asymptotics are rational numbers divided by an even power of pi.
Finite diamond-colored modular and distributive lattices with applications to combinatorial Lie representation theory
A modular or distributive lattice is `diamond-colored' if its order diagram edges are colored in such a way that, within any diamond of edges, parallel edges have the same color. Such lattices arise naturally in combinatorial representation theory, particularly in the study of poset models for semisimple Lie algebra representations and their companion Weyl group symmetric functions. One of our goals is to gather in one place some elementary but foundational results concerning these lattice structures; this includes some new results as well as some new interpretations of classical results. We then develop many points of contact between diamond-colored modular/distributive lattices and combinatorial Lie representation theory, leading to some new Dynkin diagram classification results and some new results concerning minuscule and quasi-minuscule representations.

Consider the real vector space of formal sums of non-empty, finite unoriented graphs without multiple edges and loops. Let the vertices of graphs be unlabelled but let every graph $γ$ be endowed with an ordered set of edges $\mathsf{E}(γ)$. Denote by Gra the vector space of formal sums of graphs modulo the relation $(γ_1,\mathsf{E}(γ_1))-\text{sign}(σ) (γ_2,\mathsf{E}(γ_2)) = 0$ for topologically equal graphs $γ_1$ and $γ_2$ whose edge orderings differ by a permutation $σ$. The zero class in Gra is represented by sums of graphs that cancel via the above relation. The Lie bracket of graphs with ordered edge sets is defined using the insertion of a graph into vertices of the other one. We give an explicit proof of the theorems which state that the space Gra is a well\/-\/defined differential graded Lie algebra: both the Lie bracket $[{\cdot},{\cdot}]$ and the vertex\/-\/expanding differential ${\mathrm d}=[{\bullet}\!{-}\!{\bullet},{\cdot}]$ respect the calculus modulo zero graphs.
Poset models for Weyl group analogs of symmetric functions and Schur functions
The `Weyl symmetric functions' studied here naturally generalize classical symmetric (polynomial) functions, and `Weyl bialternants,' sometimes also called Weyl characters, analogize the Schur functions. For this generalization, the underlying symmetry group is a finite Weyl group. A `splitting poset' for a Weyl bialternant is an edge-colored ranked poset possessing a certain structural property and a natural weighting of its elements so that the weighted sum of poset elements is the given Weyl bialternant. Connected such posets are of combinatorial interest in part because they are rank symmetric and rank unimodal and have nice quotient-of-product expressions for their rank generating functions. Supporting graphs of weight bases for irreducible semisimple Lie algebra representations provide one large family of examples. However, many splitting posets can be obtained outside of this Lie theoretic context. This monograph provides a tutorial on Weyl bialternants / Weyl symmetric functions and splitting posets that is largely self-contained and independent of Lie algebra representation theory. New results are also obtained.

Motivated by the study of simultaneous cores, we give three proofs (in varying levels of generality) for the expected norm of a weight in a highest weight representation of a complex simple Lie algebra. First, we argue directly using the polynomial method and the Weyl character formula. Second, we use the combinatorics of semistandard tableaux to obtain the result in type A. Third, and most interestingly, we relate this problem to the "Winnie-the-Pooh problem" regarding orthogonal decompositions of Lie algebras; although this approach offers the most explanatory power, it applies only to Cartan types other than A and C. We conclude with computations of many combinatorial cumulants.

We study coadjoint $B$-orbits on $\mathfrak{n}^*$, where $B$ is a Borel subgroup of a complex orthogonal group $G$, and $\mathfrak{n}$ is the Lie algebra of the unipotent radical of $B$. To each basis involution $w$ in the Weyl group $W$ of $G$ one can assign the associated $B$-orbit $Ω_w$. We prove that, given basis involutions $σ$, $τ$ in $W$, if the orbit $Ω_σ$ is contained in the closure of the orbit $Ω_τ$ then $σ$ is less than or equal to $τ$ with respect to the Bruhat order on $W$. For a basis involution $w$, we also compute the dimension of $Ω_w$ and present a conjectural description of the closure of $Ω_w$.

Let $\mathfrak g$ be a simple Lie algebra with a Borel subalgebra $\mathfrak b$. Let $Δ^+$ be the corresponding (po)set of positive roots and $θ$ the highest root. A pair $\{η,η'\}\subset Δ^+$ is said to be glorious, if $η,η'$ are incomparable and $η+η'=θ$. Using the theory of abelian ideals of $\mathfrak b$, we (1) establish a relationship of $η,η'$ to certain abelian ideals associated with long simple roots, (2) provide a natural bijection between the glorious pairs and the pairs of adjacent long simple roots (i.e., some edges of the Dynkin diagram), and (3) point out a simple transform connecting two glorious pairs corresponding to the incident edges in the Dynkin digram. In types ${\bf DE}$, we prove that if $\{η,η'\}$ corresponds to the edge through the branching node of the Dynkin diagram, then the meet $η\wedgeη'$ is the unique maximal non-commutative root. There is also an analogue of this property for all other types except type ${\bf A}$. As an application, we describe the minimal non-abelian ideals of $\mathfrak b$.
Atomic decomposition of characters and crystals

Lascoux stated that the type A Kostka-Foulkes polynomials K_{lambda,mu}(t) expand positively in terms of so-called atomic polynomials. For any semisimple Lie algebra, the former polynomial is a t-analogue of the multiplicity of the dominant weight mu in the irreducible representation of highest weight lambda. We formulate the atomic decomposition in arbitrary type, and view it as a strengthening of the monotonicity of K_{lambda,mu}(t). We also define a combinatorial version of the atomic decomposition, as a decomposition of a modified crystal graph. We prove that this stronger version holds in type A (which provides a new, conceptual approach to Lascoux's statement), in types B, C, and D in a stable range for t=1, as well as in some other cases, while we conjecture that it holds more generally. Another conjecture stemming from our work leads to an efficient computation of K_{lambda,mu}(t). We also give a geometric interpretation.

R.M. Green described structural properties that ``doubly infinite'' colored posets should possess so that they can be used to construct representations of most affine Kac--Moody algebras. These representations are analogs of the minuscule representations of the semisimple Lie algebras, and his posets (``full heaps'') are analogs of the finite minuscule posets. Here only simply laced Kac--Moody algebras are considered. Working with their derived subalgebras, we provide a converse to Green's theorem. Smaller collections of colored structural properties are also shown to be necessary and sufficient for such poset-built representations to be produced for smaller subalgebras, especially the ``Borel derived'' subalgebra. These developments lead to the formulation of unified definitions of finite and infinite colored minuscule and $d$-complete posets. This paper launches a program that seeks to extend the notion of ``minuscule representation'' to Kac--Moody algebras, and to classify such representations.

We develop a Borel-de Siebenthal theory for affine reflection systems by classifying their maximal closed subroot systems. Affine reflection systems (introduced by Loos and Neher) provide a unifying framework for root systems of finite-dimensional semi-simple Lie algebras, affine and toroidal Lie algebras, and extended affine Lie algebras. In the special case of nullity $k$ toroidal Lie algebras, we obtain a one-to-one correspondence between maximal closed subroot systems with full gradient and triples $(q,(b_i),H)$, where $q$ is a prime number, $(b_i)$ is a $n$-tuple of integers in the interval $[0,q-1]$ and $H$ is a $(k\times k)$ Hermite normal form matrix with determinant $q$. This generalizes the $k=1$ result of Dyer and Lehrer in the setting of affine Lie algebras.

For a semisimple Lie algebra admitting a good enumeration, we prove a parametrization for the elements in its Weyl group. As an application, we give a coordinate-free comparison between the crystal graph description (when it is known) and the Lie-theoretic description of the Weyl group multiple Dirichlet series in the stable range.

Let $\mathfrak g$ be a simple Lie algebra with a Borel subalgebra $\mathfrak b$ and $\mathfrak{Ab}$ the set of abelian ideals of $\mathfrak b$. Let $Δ^+$ be the corresponding set of positive roots. We continue our study of combinatorial properties of the partition of $\mathfrak{Ab}$ parameterised by the long positive roots. In particular, the union of an arbitrary set of maximal abelian ideals is described, if $\mathfrak g\ne\mathfrak{sl}_n$. We also characterise the greatest lower bound of two positive roots, when it exists, and point out interesting subposets of $Δ^+$ that are modular lattices.

We introduce new families of cylindric symmetric functions as subcoalgebras in the ring of symmetric functions $Λ$ (viewed as a Hopf algebra) which have non-negative structure constants. Combinatorially these cylindric symmetric functions are defined as weighted sums over cylindric reverse plane partitions or - alternatively - in terms of sets of affine permutations. We relate their combinatorial definition to an algebraic construction in terms of the principal Heisenberg subalgebra of the affine Lie algebra $\mathfrak{\widehat{sl}}_n$ and a specialised cyclotomic Hecke algebra. Using Schur-Weyl duality we show that the new cylindric symmetric functions arise as matrix elements of Lie algebra elements in the subspace of symmetric tensors of a particular level-0 module which can be identified with the small quantum cohomology ring of the $k$-fold product of projective space. The analogous construction in the subspace of alternating tensors gives the known set of cylindric Schur functions which are related to the small quantum cohomology ring of Grassmannians. We prove that cylindric Schur functions form a subcoalgebra in $Λ$ whose structure constants are the 3-point genus 0 Gromov-Witten invariants. We show that the new families of cylindric functions obtained from the subspace of symmetric tensors also share the structure constants of a symmetric Frobenius algebra, which we define in terms of tensor multiplicities of the generalised symmetric group $G(n,1,k)$.
