The ABC of p-Cells
Parallel to the very rich theory of Kazhdan-Lusztig cells in characteristic $0$, we try to build a similar theory in positive characteristic. We study cells with respect to the $p$-canonical basis of the Hecke algebra of a crystallographic Coxeter system (see arXiv:1510.01556(2)). Our main technical tool are the star-operations introduced by Kazhdan-Lusztig which have interesting numerical consequences for the $p$-canonical basis. As an application, we explicitely describe $p$-cells in finite type $A$ (i.e. for symmetric groups) using the Robinson-Schensted correspondence. Moreover, we show that Kazhdan-Lusztig cells in finite types $B$ and $C$ decompose into $p$-cells for $p > 2$.
A Note on Specializations of Grothendieck Polynomials
Buch and Rimányi proved a formula for specializations of double Grothendieck polynomials based on the Yang-Baxter equation related to the degenerate Hecke algebra. A geometric proof was found by Yong and Woo by constructing a Gröbner basis for the Kazhdan-Lusztig ideals. In this note, we give an elementary proof for this formula by using only divided difference operators.

This article serves as an introduction to several recent developments in the study of quasisymmetric functions. The focus of this survey is on connections between quasisymmetric functions and the combinatorial Hopf algebra of noncommutative symmetric functions, appearances of quasisymmetric functions within the theory of Macdonald polynomials, and analogues of symmetric functions. Topics include the significance of quasisymmetric functions in representation theory (such as representations of the 0-Hecke algebra), recently discovered bases (including analogues of well-studied symmetric function bases), and applications to open problems in symmetric function theory.

We introduce a new family of finite posets which we call 2-chains. These first arose in the study of 0-Hecke algebras, but they admit a variety of different characterisations. We give these characterisations, prove that they are equivalent and derive some numerical results concerning 2-chains.
The relation between Parabolic Hecke modules and $W$-graph ideal modules in Kazhdan-Lusztig theory
In 2011, Howlett and Nguyen \cite{r1} introduced the concept of a $W$-graph ideal $E_J$ in $\left ( W,\leqslant_{L} \right )$ with respect to $J$ (a subset of $S$), where $\leqslant _{L}$ is the left weak order on $W$. They proved that one can construct a $W$-graph from a given $W$-graph ideal by constructing a Hecke module structure on $E_J$, where the $W$-graph was introduced by Kazhdan and Lusztig in \cite{d1}.
In this paper, we give the relation between Hecke modules on $E_J$ and general Hecke algebras by considering the relation between Hecke modules on $E_J$ and parabolic Hecke modules. And inspired by Lusztig \cite{g3}, we show that the parabolic Hecke module is isomorphic to a left ideal of the Hecke algebra. Lastly, we give the relation between $R$-polynomials on $E_J$ and parabolic $R$-polynomials as an application of the main results.

This paper gives a Schur-Weyl duality approach to the representation theory of the affine Hecke algebras of type C with unequal parameters. The first step is to realize the affine braid group of type $C_k$ as the group of braids on $k$ strands with two poles. Generalizing familiar methods from the one pole (type A) case, this provides commuting actions of the quantum group $U_q\mathfrak{g}$ and the affine braid group of type $C_k$ on a tensor space $M\otimes N \otimes V^{\otimes k}$. Special cases provide Schur-Weyl pairings between the affine Hecke algebra of type $C_k$ and the quantum group of type $\mathfrak{gl}_n$, resulting in natural labelings of many representations of the affine Hecke algebras of type C by partitions. Following an analysis of the structure of weights of affine Hecke algebra representations (extending the one parameter case to the three parameter case necessary for affine Hecke algebras of type C), we provide an explicit identification of the affine Hecke algebra representations that appear in tensor space (essentially by identifying their Langlands parameters).
Cylindric symmetric functions and positivity

We introduce new families of cylindric symmetric functions as subcoalgebras in the ring of symmetric functions $Λ$ (viewed as a Hopf algebra) which have non-negative structure constants. Combinatorially these cylindric symmetric functions are defined as weighted sums over cylindric reverse plane partitions or - alternatively - in terms of sets of affine permutations. We relate their combinatorial definition to an algebraic construction in terms of the principal Heisenberg subalgebra of the affine Lie algebra $\mathfrak{\widehat{sl}}_n$ and a specialised cyclotomic Hecke algebra. Using Schur-Weyl duality we show that the new cylindric symmetric functions arise as matrix elements of Lie algebra elements in the subspace of symmetric tensors of a particular level-0 module which can be identified with the small quantum cohomology ring of the $k$-fold product of projective space. The analogous construction in the subspace of alternating tensors gives the known set of cylindric Schur functions which are related to the small quantum cohomology ring of Grassmannians. We prove that cylindric Schur functions form a subcoalgebra in $Λ$ whose structure constants are the 3-point genus 0 Gromov-Witten invariants. We show that the new families of cylindric functions obtained from the subspace of symmetric tensors also share the structure constants of a symmetric Frobenius algebra, which we define in terms of tensor multiplicities of the generalised symmetric group $G(n,1,k)$.
The Whitney Duals of a Graded Poset
We introduce the notion of a \emph{Whitney dual} of a graded poset. Two posets are Whitney duals to each other if (the absolute value of) their Whitney numbers of the first and second kind are interchanged between the two posets. We define new types of edge and chain-edge labelings which we call \emph{Whitney labelings}. We prove that every graded poset with a Whitney labeling has a Whitney dual. Moreover, we show how to explicitly construct a Whitney dual using a technique involving quotient posets.
As applications of our main theorem, we show that geometric lattices, the lattice of noncrossing partitions, the poset of weighted partitions studied by González D'León-Wachs, and most of the R$^*$S-labelable posets studied by Simion-Stanley all have Whitney duals. Our technique gives a combinatorial description of a Whitney dual of the noncrossing partition lattice in terms of a family of noncrossing Dyck paths. Our method also provides an explanation of the Whitney duality between the poset of weighted partitions and a poset of rooted forests studied by Reiner and Sagan. An integral part of this explanation is a new chain-edge labeling for the poset of weighted partitions which we show is a Whitney labeling.
Finally, we show that a graded poset with a Whitney labeling admits a local action of the $0$-Hecke algebra of type $A$ on its set of maximal chains. The characteristic of the associated representation is Ehrenborg's flag quasisymmetric function. The existence of this action implies, using a result of McNamara, that when the maximal intervals of the constructed Whitney duals are bowtie-free, they are also snellable. In the case where these maximal intervals are lattices, they are supersolvable.
Generalized nil-Coxeter algebras

Motivated by work of Coxeter (1957), we study a class of algebras associated to Coxeter groups, which we term 'generalized nil-Coxeter algebras'. We construct the first finite-dimensional examples other than usual nil-Coxeter algebras; these form a $2$-parameter type $A$ family that we term $NC_A(n,d)$. We explore the combinatorial properties of these algebras, including the Coxeter word basis, length function, maximal words, and their connection to Khovanov's categorification of the Weyl algebra.
Our broader motivation arises from complex reflection groups and the Broue-Malle-Rouquier freeness conjecture (1998). With generic Hecke algebras over real and complex groups in mind, we show that the 'first' finite-dimensional examples $NC_A(n,d)$ are in fact the only ones, outside of the usual nil-Coxeter algebras. The proofs use a diagrammatic calculus akin to crystal theory.

We combinatorially describe entries of the transition matrices which relate monomial bases of the zero-weight space of the quantum matrix bialgebra. This description leads to a combinatorial rule for evaluating induced sign characters of the type $A$ Hecke algebra $H_n(q)$ at all elements of the form $(1 + T_{s_{i_1}}) \cdots (1 + T_{s_{i_m}})$, including the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis elements indexed by $321$-hexagon-avoiding permutations. This result is the first subtraction-free rule for evaluating all elements of a basis of the $H_n(q)$-trace space at all elements of a basis of $H_n(q)$.

Analogues of 1-shuffle elements for complex reflection groups of type $G(m,1,n)$ are introduced. A geometric interpretation for $G(m,1,n)$ in terms of rotational permutations of polygonal cards is given. We compute the eigenvalues, and their multiplicities, of the 1-shuffle element in the algebra of the group $G(m,1,n)$. Considering shuffling as a random walk on the group $G(m,1,n)$, we estimate the rate of convergence to randomness of the corresponding Markov chain. We report on the spectrum of the 1-shuffle analogue in the cyclotomic Hecke algebra $H(m,1,n)$ for $m=2$ and small $n$.

We introduce a generalization of semistandard composition tableaux called permuted composition tableaux. These tableaux are intimately related to permuted basement semistandard augmented fillings studied by Haglund, Mason and Remmel. Our primary motivation for studying permuted composition tableaux is to enumerate all possible ordered pairs of permutations $(σ_1,σ_2)$ that can be obtained by standardizing the entries in two adjacent columns of an arbitrary composition tableau. We refer to such pairs as compatible pairs. To study compatible pairs in depth, we define a $0$-Hecke action on permuted composition tableaux. This action naturally defines an equivalence relation on these tableaux. Certain distinguished representatives of the resulting equivalence classes in the special case of two-columned tableaux are in bijection with compatible pairs. We provide a bijection between two-columned tableaux and labeled binary trees. This bijection maps a quadruple of descent statistics for 2-columned tableaux to left and right ascent-descent statistics on labeled binary trees introduced by Gessel, and we use it to prove that the number of compatible pairs is $(n+1)^{n-1}$.

Let $p$ be an odd prime and let $n$ be a natural number. In this article we determine the irreducible constituents of the permutation module induced by the action of the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ on the cosets of a Sylow $p$-subgroup $P_n$. As a consequence, we determine the number of irreducible representations of the corresponding Hecke algebra $\mathcal{H}(\mathfrak{S}_n, P_n, 1_{P_n})$.

We study a shift action defined on multipartitions and on residue multisets of their Young diagrams. We prove that the minimal orbit cardinality among all multipartitions associated to a given multiset depends only on the orbit cardinality of the multiset. Using abaci, this problem reduces to a convex optimisation problem over the integers with linear constraints. We solve it by proving an existence theorem for binary matrices with prescribed row, column and block sums. Finally, we give some applications to the representation theory of the Hecke algebra of the complex reflection group $G(r,p,n)$.

Recently Tewari and van Willigenburg constructed modules of the 0-Hecke algebra that are mapped to the quasisymmetric Schur functions by the quasisymmetric characteristic and decomposed them into a direct sum of certain submodules. We show that these submodules are indecomposable by determining their endomorphism rings.

We construct an action of the Hecke algebra $H_n(q)$ on a quotient of the polynomial ring $F[x_1, \dots, x_n]$, where $F = \mathbb{Q}(q)$. The dimension of our quotient ring is the number of $k$-block ordered set partitions of $\{1, 2, \dots, n \}$. This gives a quantum analog of a construction of Haglund-Rhoades-Shimozono and interpolates between their result at $q = 1$ and work of Huang-Rhoades at $q = 0$.

Given a module $M$ for the algebra $\mathcal{D}_{\mathtt{q}}(G)$ of quantum differential operators on $G$, and a positive integer $n$, we may equip the space $F_n^G(M)$ of invariant tensors in $V^{\otimes n}\otimes M$, with an action of the double affine Hecke algebra of type $A_{n-1}$. Here $G= SL_N$ or $GL_N$, and $V$ is the $N$-dimensional defining representation of $G$.
In this paper we take $M$ to be the basic $\mathcal{D}_{\mathtt{q}}(G)$-module, i.e. the quantized coordinate algebra $M= \mathcal{O}_{\mathtt{q}}(G)$. We describe a weight basis for $F_n^G(\mathcal{O}_{\mathtt{q}}(G))$ combinatorially in terms of walks in the type $A$ weight lattice, and standard periodic tableaux, and subsequently identify $F_n^G(\mathcal{O}_{\mathtt{q}}(G))$ with the irreducible "rectangular representation" of height $N$ of the double affine Hecke algebra.

We study walk algebras and Hecke algebras for Kac-Moody root systems. Each choice of orientation for the set of real roots gives rise to a corresponding "oriented" basis for each of these algebras. We show that the notion of distinguished subexpression naturally arises when studying the transition matrix between oriented bases. We then relate these notions to the geometry of Kac-Moody flag varieties and Bott-Samelson varieties. In particular, we show that the number of points over a finite field in certain intersections of these varieties is given by change of basis coefficients between oriented bases of the Hecke algebra. Using these results we give streamlined derivations of Deodhar's formula for $R$-polynomials and point-counting formulas for specializations of nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials $E_λ(\mathsf{q},t)$ at $\mathsf{q}=0,\infty$.

We give a new simple characterization of the set of Kleshchev multipartitions, and more generally of the set of Uglov multipartitions. These combinatorial objects play an important role in various areas of representation theory of quantum groups, Hecke algebras or finite reductive groups. As a consequence, we obtain a proof of a generalization of a conjecture by Dipper, James and Murphy and a generalization of the LLT algorithm for arbitrary level.

First we develop the theory of local rules for coboundary categories. Then we describe the local rules in two main cases. First for the quantum groups in general and in the seminormal representations of the Hecke algebras. Then for crystals in general and specifically for crystals of minuscule representations. Finally we show how growth diagrams can be extended to construct the action of the cactus group on highest weight words.
