We are interested in the maximum possible number of facets that Dirichlet stereohedra for three-dimensional crystallographic groups can have. The problem for non-cubic groups was studied in previous papers by D. Bochis and the second author (Discrete Comput. Geom. 25:3 (2001), 419-444, and Beitr. Algebra Geom., 47:1 (2006), 89-120). This paper deals with ''full'' cubic groups, while ''quarter'' cubic groups are left for a subsequent paper. Here, ''full'' and ''quarter'' refers to the recent classification of three-dimensional crystallographic groups by Conway, Delgado-Friedrichs, Huson and Thurston (math.MG/9911185, Beitr. Algebra Geom. 42.2 (2001), 475-507).
Our main result in this paper is that Dirichlet stereohedra for any of the 27 full groups cannot have more than 25 facets. We also find stereohedra with 17 facets for one of these groups.
Automorphisms and Enumeration of Maps of Cayley Graph of a Finite Group
A map is a connected topological graph $Γ$ cellularly embedded in a surface. In this paper, applying Tutte's algebraic representation of map, new ideas for enumerating non-equivalent orientable or non-orientable maps of graph are presented. By determining automorphisms of maps of Cayley graph $Γ={\rm Cay}(G:S)$ with ${\rm Aut} Γ\cong G\times H$ on locally, orientable and non-orientable surfaces, formulae for the number of non-equivalent maps of $Γ$ on surfaces (orientable, non-orientable or locally orientable) are obtained . Meanwhile, using reseults on GRR graph for finite groups, we enumerate the non-equivalent maps of GRR graph of symmetric groups, groups generated by 3 involutions and abelian groups on orientable or non-orientable surfaces.

Let $K$ be a field, and let $R = K[X]$ be the polynomial ring in an infinite collection $X$ of indeterminates over $K$. Let ${\mathfrak S}_{X}$ be the symmetric group of $X$. The group ${\mathfrak S}_{X}$ acts naturally on $R$, and this in turn gives $R$ the structure of a left module over the (left) group ring $R[{\mathfrak S}_{X}]$. A recent theorem of Aschenbrenner and Hillar states that the module $R$ is Noetherian. We prove that submodules of $R$ can have any number of minimal generators.
On the number of plane partitions and non isomorphic subgroup towers of abelian groups
We study the number of $k \times r$ plane partitions, weighted on the sum of the first row. Using Erhart reciprocity, we prove an identity for the generating function. For the special case $k=1$ this result follows from the classical theory of partitions, and for $k=2$ it was proved in Andersson-Bhowmik with another method. We give an explicit formula in terms of Young tableaux, and study the corresponding zeta-function. We give an application on the average orders of towers of abelian groups. In particular we prove that the number of isomorphism classes of ``subgroups of subgroups of ... ($k-1$ times) ... of abelian groups'' of order at most $N$ is asymptotic to $c_k N (\log N)^{k-1}$. This generalises results from Erd{\H o}s-Szekeres and Andersson-Bhowmik where the corresponding result was proved for $k=1$ and $k=2$.
An application of a local version of Chang's theorem
We prove a theorem claimed in math.CA/0605519 which asserts that if A is a subset of a compact abelian group G with density of a particular (natural, although technical) form then the A(G)-norm (that is the sum of the absolute values of the Fourier transform) of the characteristic function of A cannot be too small.
Zeta functions of graphs with $\mathbb{Z}$ actions
Suppose $Y$ is a regular covering of a graph $X$ with covering transformation group $π= \mathbb{Z}$. This paper gives an explicit formula for the $L^2$ zeta function of $Y$ and computes examples. When $π= \mathbb{Z}$, the $L^2$ zeta function is an algebraic function. As a consequence it extends to a meromorphic function on a Riemann surface. The meromorphic extension provides a setting to generalize known properties of zeta functions of regular graphs, such as the location of singularities and the functional equation.

The Kocinac alpha_i properties, i=1,2,3,4, are generalizations of Arhangel'skii's alpha_i local properties. We give a complete classification of these properties when applied to the standard families of open covers of topological spaces or to the standard families of open covers of topological groups. One of the latter properties characterizes totally bounded groups. We also answer a question of Kocinac.

In many physical problems or applications one has to study functions that are invariant under the action of a symmetry group G and this is best done in the orbit space of G if one knows the equations and inequalities defining the orbit space and its strata. It is reviewed how the P-matrix is defined in terms of an integrity basis and how it can be used to determine the equations and inequalities defining the orbit space and its strata. It is shown that the P-matrix is a useful tool of constructive invariant theory, in fact, when the integrity basis is only partially known, calculating the P-matrix elements, one is able to determine the integrity basis completely.
Testing spherical transitivity in iterated wreath products of cyclic groups
We give a partial solution a question of Grigorchuk, Nekrashevych, Sushchanskii and Šunik by giving an algorithm to test whether a finite state element of an infinite iterated (permutational) wreath product $\hat G = \mathbb Z/k\mathbb Z\wr \mathbb Z/k\mathbb Z\wr \mathbb Z/k\mathbb Z\wr >...$ of cyclic groups of order $n$ acts spherically transitively. We can also decide whether two finite state spherically transitive elements of $\hat G$ are conjugate. For general infinite iterated wreath products, an algorithm is presented to determine whether two finite state automorphisms have the same image in the abelianization.
Möbius Functions and Semigroup Representation Theory II: Character formulas and multiplicities

We generalize the character formulas for multiplicities of irreducible constituents from group theory to semigroup theory using Rota's theory of Möbius inversion. The technique works for a large class of semigroups including: inverse semigroups, semigroups with commuting idempotents, idempotent semigroups and semigroups with basic algebras. Using these tools we are able to give a complete description of the spectra of random walks on finite semigroups admitting a faithful representation by upper triangular matrices over the complex numbers. These include the random walks on chambers of hyperplane arrangements studied by Bidigare, Hanlon, Rockmere, Brown and Diaconis. Applications are also given to decomposing tensor powers and exterior products of rook matrix representations of inverse semigroups, generalizing and simplifying earlier results of Solomon for the rook monoid.
Superregular Matrices and the Construction of Convolutional Codes having a Maximum Distance Profile
Superregular matrices are a class of lower triangular Toeplitz matrices that arise in the context of constructing convolutional codes having a maximum distance profile. These matrices are characterized by the property that no submatrix has a zero determinant unless it is trivially zero due to the lower triangular structure. In this paper, we discuss how superregular matrices may be used to construct codes having a maximum distance profile. We also introduce group actions that preserve the superregularity property and present an upper bound on the minimum size a finite field must have in order that a superregular matrix of a given size can exist over that field.

Let G be a permutation group acting on {1,...,n}, and < be any admissible term order on the polynomial ring K[x_1,...,x_n]. We prove that the invariant ring K[x_1,...,x_n]^G of G has a finite SAGBI basis if, and only if, G is generated by reflections.

Representation theories of some towers of algebras related to the symmetric groups and their Hecke algebras
We study the representation theory of three towers of algebras which are related to the symmetric groups and their Hecke algebras. The first one is constructed as the algebras generated simultaneously by the elementary transpositions and the elementary sorting operators acting on permutations. The two others are the monoid algebras of nondecreasing functions and nondecreasing parking functions. For these three towers, we describe the structure of simple and indecomposable projective modules, together with the Cartan map. The Grothendieck algebras and coalgebras given respectively by the induction product and the restriction coproduct are also given explicitly. This yields some new interpretations of the classical bases of quasi-symmetric and noncommutative symmetric functions as well as some new bases.

We consider certain modules of the symmetric groups whose basis elements are called tabloids. Some of these modules are isomorphic to subspaces of the cohomology rings of subvarieties of flag varieties as modules of the symmetric groups. We give a combinatorial description for some weighted sums of their characters, i.e., we introduce combinatorial objects called $(ρ,\Ll)$-tabloids and rewrite weighted sums of characters as the numbers of these combinatorial objects. We also consider the meaning of these combinatorial objects, i.e., we construct a correspondence between $(ρ,\Ll)$-tabloids and tabloids whose images are eigenvectors of the action of an element of cycle type $ρ$ in quotient modules.
Kazhdan's Property (T) for Graphs
D. A. Kahzdan first put forth property (T) in relation to the study of discrete subgroups of Lie groups of finite co-volume. Through a combinatorial approach, we define an analogue of property (T) for regular graphs. We then prove the basic combinatorial and metric properties of Kazhdan groups in this context. In particular, we use our methods to construct infinite families of expanders as in the classical case. Finally, we consider the combinatorial analogue of the group theoretic property $(τ)$ and prove its basic properties.
Properties of the Generalized Zig-Zag Product of Graphs
The operation of zig-zag products of graphs is the analogue of the semidirect product of groups. Using this observation, we present a categorical description of zig-zag products in order to generalize the construction for the category of simple graphs. Also, we examine the covering properties of zig-zag products and we utilize these results to estimate their spectral invariants in general. In addition, we provide specific spectral analysis for some such products.

The algebra of truncated polynomials A_m=Z[x]/(x^m) plays an important role in the theory of Khovanov and Khovanov-Rozansky homology of links. We have demonstrated that Hochschild homology is closely related to Khovanov homology via comultiplication free graph cohomology. It is not difficult to compute Hochschild homology of A_m and the only torsion, equal to Z_m, appears in gradings (i,m(i+1)/2) for any positive odd i. We analyze here the grading of graph cohomology which is producing torsion for a polygon. We find completely the cohomology H^{1,v-1}_{A_2}(G) and H^{1,2v-3}_{A_3}(G). The group H^{1,v-1}_{A_2}(G) is closely related to the standard graph cohomology, except that the boundary of an edge is the sum of endpoints instead of the difference. The result about H^{1,v-1}_{A_2}(G) gives as a corollary a fact about Khovanov homology of alternating and + or - adequate link diagrams. The group H^{1,2v-3}_{A_3}(G) can be computed from the homology of a cell complex, X_{Δ,4}(G), built from the graph G. In particular, we prove that A_3 cohomology can have any torsion. We give a simple and complete characterization of those graphs which have torsion in cohomology H^{1,2v-3}_{A_3}(G) (e.g. loopless graphs which have a 3-cycle). We also construct graphs which have the same (di)chromatic polynomial but different H^{1,2v-3}_{A_3}(G). Finally, we give examples of calculations of width of H^{1,*}_{A_3}(G) and of cohomology H^{1,(m-1)(v-2)+1}_{A_m}(G) for m>3.
Bipartite-uniform hypermaps on the sphere

A hypermap is (hypervertex-) bipartite if its hypervertices can be 2-coloured in such a way that ``neighbouring'' hypervertices have different colours. It is bipartite-uniform if within each of the sets of hypervertices of the same colour, hyperedges and hyperfaces, elements have common valencies. The flags of a bipartite hypermap are naturally 2-coloured by assigning the colour of its adjacent hypervertices. A hypermap is bipartite-regular if the automorphism group acts transitively on each set of coloured flags. If the automorphism group acts transitively on the set of all flags, the hypermap is regular. In this paper we classify the bipartite-uniform hypermaps on the sphere (up to duality). Two constructions of bipartite-uniform hypermaps are given. All bipartite-uniform spherical hypermaps are shown to be constructed in this way. As a by-product we show that every bipartite-uniform hypermap on the sphere is bipartite-regular. We also compute their irregularity group and index, and also their closure cover and covering core.

We consider two families of equivalence classes in the Weyl groups of type $B_n$ which are suggested by the study of left cells in unequal parameter Iwahori-Hecke algebras. Both families are indexed by a non-negative integer $r$. For $r=0$, the classes in the first family coincide with left cells corresponding to the equal parameter Iwahori-Hecke algebra. When $r$ is sufficiently large, the equivalence classes in the second family agree with left cells corresponding to a special class of choices of unequal parameters. Our main result shows that the two families of equivalence classes coincide, suggesting the structure of left cells for remaining choices of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra parameters.
