Pop-Stack Operators for Torsion Classes and Cambrian Lattices
The pop-stack operator of a finite lattice $L$ is the map $\mathrm{pop}^{\downarrow}_L\colon L\to L$ that sends each element $x\in L$ to the meet of $\{x\}\cup\text{cov}_L(x)$, where $\text{cov}_L(x)$ is the set of elements covered by $x$ in $L$. We study several properties of the pop-stack operator of $\mathrm{tors}Λ$, the lattice of torsion classes of a $τ$-tilting finite algebra $Λ$ over a field $K$. We describe the pop-stack operator in terms of certain mutations of 2-term simple-minded collections. This allows us to describe preimages of a given torsion class under the pop-stack operator. We then specialize our attention to Cambrian lattices of a finite irreducible Coxeter group $W$. Using tools from representation theory, we provide simple Coxeter-theoretic and lattice-theoretic descriptions of the image of the pop-stack operator of a Cambrian lattice (which can be stated without representation theory). When specialized to a bipartite Cambrian lattice of type A, this result settles a conjecture of Choi and Sun. We also settle a related enumerative conjecture of Defant and Williams. When $L$ is an arbitrary lattice quotient of the weak order on $W$, we prove that the maximum size of a forward orbit under the pop-stack operator of $L$ is at most the Coxeter number of $W$; when $L$ is a Cambrian lattice, we provide an explicit construction to show that this maximum forward orbit size is actually equal to the Coxeter number.

Everything is possible: constructing spectrahedra with prescribed facial dimensions
Published • View Publication • BIB
Given any finite set of nonnegative integers, there exists a closed convex set whose facial dimension signature coincides with this set of integers, that is, the dimensions of its nonempty faces comprise exactly this set of integers. In this work, we show that such sets can be realised as solution sets of systems of finitely many convex quadratic inequalities, and hence are representable via second-order cone programming problems, and are, in particular, spectrahedral. It also follows that these sets are facially exposed, in contrast to earlier constructions. We obtain a lower bound on the minimum number of convex quadratic inequalities needed to represent a closed convex set with prescribed facial dimension signature, and show that our bound is tight for some special cases. Finally, we relate the question of finding efficient representations with indecomposability of integer sequences and other topics, and discuss a substantial number of open questions.
Geproci sets on skew lines in $\mathbb P^3$ with two transversals
The purpose of this work is to pursue classification of geproci sets. Specifically we classify $[m,n]$-geproci sets which consist of $m=4$ points on each of $n$ skew lines, assuming the skew lines have two transversals in common. We show that in this case $n\leq 6$. Moreover we show that all geproci sets of this type are contained in the \emph{standard construction} for $m=4$ introduced in arXiv:2209.04820. Finally, we propose a conjectural representation for all geproci sets of this type, irrespective of the number $m$ of points on each skew line.

Combinatorics of $(m,n)$-Word Lattices
Published in The Electronic Journal of Combinatorics 31, 4 (2024). P4.1 • View Publication • BIB
We study the $(m,n)$-word lattices recently introduced by V. Pilaud and D. Poliakova in their study of generalized Hochschild polytopes. We prove that these lattices are extremal and constructable by interval doublings. Moreover, we describe further combinatorial properties of these lattices, such as their cardinality, their canonical join representations and their Galois graphs.

On the Divisibility of Degrees of Representations of Lie Algebras
Published • View Publication • BIB
Let $\mathfrak g$ be a reductive Lie algebra, and $m$ a positive integer. There is a natural density of irreducible representations of $\mathfrak g$, whose degrees are not divisible by $m$. For $\mathfrak g=\mathfrak{gl}_n$, this density decays exponentially to $0$ as $n \to \infty$. Similar results hold for simple Lie algebras and Lie groups, and there are versions for self-dual and orthogonal representations.
The Complement of the Djokovic-Winkler Relation
Published • View Publication • BIB
The Djoković-Winkler relation $Θ$ is a binary relation defined on the edge set of a given graph that is based on the distances of certain vertices and which plays a prominent role in graph theory. In this paper, we explore the relatively uncharted ``reflexive complement'' $\overlineΘ$ of $Θ$, where $(e,f)\in \overlineΘ$ if and only if $e=f$ or $(e,f)\notin Θ$ for edges $e$ and $f$. We establish the relationship between $\overlineΘ$ and the set $Δ_{ef}$, comprising the distances between the vertices of $e$ and $f$ and shed some light on the intricacies of its transitive closure $\overlineΘ^*$. Notably, we demonstrate that $\overlineΘ^*$ exhibits multiple equivalence classes only within a restricted subclass of complete multipartite graphs. In addition, we characterize non-trivial relations $R$ that coincide with $\overlineΘ$ as those where the graph representation is disconnected, with each connected component being the (join of) Cartesian product of complete graphs. The latter results imply, somewhat surprisingly, that knowledge about the distances between vertices is not required to determine $\overlineΘ^*$. Moreover, $\overlineΘ^*$ has either exactly one or three equivalence classes.

Tropical Quiver Grassmannians
We introduce quivers of valuated matroids and study their tropical parameter spaces. We define quiver Dressians, which parametrize containment of tropical linear spaces after tropical matrix multiplication, and show that tropicalizations of quiver Grassmannians parametrize the realizable analogue. We further introduce affine morphisms of valuated matroids and show compatibility with weakly monomial quiver representations. Finally, we show that starting in ambient dimension 2, quiver Dressians can have nonrealizable points.
From affine to barycentric coordinates in polytopes
Published in Banach Center Publications 129 (2025), 185-200 • View Publication • BIB
Each point of a simplex is expressed as a unique convex combination of the vertices. The coefficients in the combination are the barycentric coordinates of the point. For each point in a general convex polytope, there may be multiple representations, so its barycentric coordinates are not necessarily unique. There are various schemes to fix particular barycentric coordinates: Gibbs, Wachspress, cartographic, etc. In this paper, a method for producing sparse barycentric coordinates in polytopes will be discussed. It uses a purely algebraic treatment of affine spaces and convex sets, with barycentric algebras. The method is based on a certain decomposition of each finite-dimensional convex polytope into a union of simplices of the same dimension.
Calibrated representations of the double Dyck path algebra
The double Dyck path algebra $\mathbb{A}_{q,t}$ and its polynomial representation first arose as a key figure in the proof of the celebrated Shuffle Theorem of Carlsson and Mellit. A geometric formulation for an equivalent algebra $\mathbb{B}_{q,t}$ was then given by the second author and Carlsson and Mellit using the K-theory of parabolic flag Hilbert schemes. In this article, we initiate the systematic study of the representation theory of the double Dyck path algebra $\mathbb{B}_{q,t}$. We define a natural extension of this algebra and study its calibrated representations. We show that the polynomial representation is calibrated, and place it into a large family of calibrated representations constructed from posets satisfying certain conditions. We also define tensor products and duals of these representations, thus proving (under suitable conditions) the category of calibrated representations is generically monoidal. As an application, we prove that tensor powers of the polynomial representation can be constructed from the equivariant K-theory of parabolic Gieseker moduli spaces.

Using a Grassmann graph to recover the underlying projective geometry
Published in Graphs and Combinatorics 40, 88 (2024) • View Publication • BIB
Let $n,k$ denote integers with $n>2k\geq 6$. Let $\mathbb{F}_q$ denote a finite field with $q$ elements, and let $V$ denote a vector space over $\mathbb{F}_q$ that has dimension $n$. The projective geometry $P_q(n)$ is the partially ordered set consisting of the subspaces of $V$; the partial order is given by inclusion. For the Grassmann graph $J_q(n,k)$ the vertex set consists of the $k$-dimensional subspaces of $V$. Two vertices of $J_q(n,k)$ are adjacent whenever their intersection has dimension $k-1$. The graph $J_q(n,k)$ is known to be distance-regular. Let $\partial$ denote the path-length distance function of $J_q(n,k)$. Pick two vertices $x,y$ in $J_q(n,k)$ such that $1<\partial(x,y)<k$. The set $P_q(n)$ contains the elements $x,y,x\cap y,x+y$. In our main result, we describe $x\cap y$ and $x+y$ using only the graph structure of $J_q(n,k)$. To achieve this result, we make heavy use of the Euclidean representation of $J_q(n,k)$ that corresponds to the second largest eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix.

Mirković-Vilonen Polytopes from Combinatorics
Mirković-Vilonen (MV) polytopes are a class of generalized permutahedra originating from geometric representation theory. In this paper we study MV polytopes coming from matroid polytopes, flag matroid polytopes, Bruhat interval polytopes, and Schubitopes. We give classifications and combinatorial conditions for when these polytopes are MV polytopes. We also describe how the crystal structure on MV polytopes manifests combinatorially in these situations. As a special case, we show that the Newton polytopes of Schubert polynomials and key polynomials are MV polytopes.

Representation theoretic interpretation of the Springer correspondence for dihedral groups
The Lusztig-Shoji algorithm is generalized to a complex reflection group $W$ and give us a version of the Springer correspondence of $W$. We show that the combinatorics of generalized Springer correspondences of dihedral groups of order $2n$ exhibit the Brauer-Humphreys type reciprocity as in the case of Weyl groups for odd $n$, and these constitute a major portion of the stratification of the natural module categories attached to them.

On the Permutation-Representation Number of Bipartite Graphs using Neighborhood Graphs
The problems of determining the permutation-representation number (prn) and the representation number of bipartite graphs are open in the literature. Moreover, the decision problem corresponding to the determination of the prn of a bipartite graph is NP-complete. However, these numbers were established for certain subclasses of bipartite graphs, e.g., for crown graphs. Further, it was conjectured that the crown graphs have the highest representation number among the bipartite graphs. In this work, first, we reconcile the relation between the prn of a comparability graph and the dimension of its induced poset and review the upper bounds on the prn of bipartite graphs. Then, we study the prn of bipartite graphs using the notion called neighborhood graphs. This approach substantiates the aforesaid conjecture and gives us theoretical evidence. In this connection, we devise a polynomial-time procedure to construct a word that represents a given bipartite graph permutationally. Accordingly, we provide a better upper bound for the prn of bipartite graphs. Further, we construct a class of bipartite graphs, viz., extended crown graphs, defined over posets and investigate its prn using the neighborhood graphs.

The fourth positive element in the greedy $B_h$-set
Published in Journal of Integer Sequences 27 (2024), Article 24.7.3, pp. 1--10 • Search Publication
For $h \geq 1$, a $B_h$-set is a set of integers such that every integer $n$ has at most one representation in the form $n = a_{i_1} + \cdots + a_{i_h}$, where $a_{i_r} \in A$ for all $r = 1,\ldots, h$ and $a_{i_1} \leq \ldots \leq a_{i_h}$. The greedy $B_h$-set is the infinite set of nonnegative integers $\{a_0(h), a_1(h), a_2(h), \ldots \}$ constructed as follows: If $a_0(h) = 0$ and $\{a_0(h), a_1(h), a_2(h), \ldots, a_k(h) \}$ is a $B_h$-set, then $a_{k+1}(h)$ is the least positive integer such that $\{a_0(h), a_1(h), a_2(h), \ldots, a_k(h), a_{k+1}(h) \}$ is a $B_h$-set. Then $a_1(h) = 1$, $a_2(h) = h+1$, and $a_3(h) = h^2+h+1$ for all $h$. This paper proves that $a_4(h)$, the fourth term of the greedy $B_h$-set is $\left( h^3 + 3h^2 + 3h + 1\right) /2$ if $h$ is odd and $\left( h^3 + 2h^2 + 3h + 2\right) /2$ if $h$ is even.

Asymptotics of Redistricting the $n\times n$ Grid
Redistricting is the act of dividing a region into districts for electoral representation. Motivated by this application, we study two questions. How many ways are there to partition the $n\times n$ grid into $n$ contiguous districts of equal size? How many of these partitions are ``compact"? We give asymptotic bounds on the number of plans: a lower bound of roughly $1.41^{n^2}$ and an upper bound of roughly $3.21^{n^2}$. We then use the lower bound to show that most plans are not compact.
Parahoric Lie algebras and parasymmetric Macdonald polynomials
The main goal of this paper is to categorify the specialized parasymmetric (intermediate) Macdonald polynomials. These polynomials depend on a parabolic subalgebra of a simple Lie algebra and generalize the symmetric and nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials. To achieve this we introduce cyclic modules of the parahoric subalgebras of the affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras such that their characters coincide with the specializations of the parasymmetric polynomials at zero and infinity. These cyclic modules are proved to coincide with standard and costandard objects in certain categories of representations of parahoric algebras. We show that the categories in question are stratified, i.e. they are graded highest weight categories. As a consequence, we derive an analog of the Peter-Weyl theorem describing the bi-module of functions on the parahoric and parabolic Lie groups via the mentioned above standard and costandard modules.

Lattices properties of acyclic alternating pipe dreams
This paper proves some conjectures raised by N. Bergeron, N. Cartier, C. Ceballos, and V. Pilaud about acyclic facets of subword complexes of type A Coxeter groups. We use a representation of subword complex facets extending the pipe dreams defined N. Bergeron and S. Billey and prove that the strongly acyclic facets realize a lattice quotient of a weak order interval. We also give a sufficient condition so that all acyclic facets are strongly acyclic.

The Chromatic Number of Kneser Hypergraphs via Consensus Division
Published • View Publication • BIB
We show that the Consensus Division theorem implies lower bounds on the chromatic number of Kneser hypergraphs, offering a novel proof for a result of Alon, Frankl, and Lovász (Trans. Amer. Math. Soc., 1986) and for its generalization by Kříž (Trans. Amer. Math. Soc., 1992). Our approach is applied to study the computational complexity of the total search problem Kneser$^p$, which given a succinct representation of a coloring of a $p$-uniform Kneser hypergraph with fewer colors than its chromatic number, asks to find a monochromatic hyperedge. We prove that for every prime $p$, the Kneser$^p$ problem with an extended access to the input coloring is efficiently reducible to a quite weak approximation of the Consensus Division problem with $p$ shares. In particular, for $p=2$, the problem is efficiently reducible to any non-trivial approximation of the Consensus Halving problem on normalized monotone functions. We further show that for every prime $p$, the Kneser$^p$ problem lies in the complexity class $\mathsf{PPA}$-$p$. As an application, we establish limitations on the complexity of the Kneser$^p$ problem, restricted to colorings with a bounded number of colors.
Monomial expansions for $q$-Whittaker and modified Hall-Littlewood polynomials
We consider the monomial expansion of the $q$-Whittaker polynomials given by the fermionic formula and via the inv and quinv statistics. We construct bijections between the parametrizing sets of these three models which preserve the $x$- and $q$-weights, and which are compatible with natural projection and branching maps. We apply this to the limit construction of local Weyl modules and obtain a new character formula for the basic representation of $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}_n}$. Finally, we indicate how our main results generalize to the modified Hall-Littlewood case.
Silhouettes and generic properties of subgroups of the modular group
Published • View Publication • BIB
We show that the probability for a finitely generated subgroup of the modular group, of size $n$, to be almost malnormal or non-parabolic, tends to 0 as $n$ tends to infinity -- where the notion of the size of a subgroup is based on a natural graph-theoretic representation of the subgroup. The proofs of these results rely on the combinatorial and asymptotic study of a natural map, which associates with any finitely generated subgroup of $\textsf{PSL}(2,\mathbb{Z})$ a graph which we call its silhouette, which can be interpreted as a conjugacy class of free finite index subgroups of $\textsf{PSL}(2,\mathbb{Z})$.
