Characterization of $\mathfrak{k}$-highest weight and $\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$-dominant tableaux via $1$-$0$-slack recording tableaux in the quantum Littlewood-Richardson rule and lattice points in flagged hive polytopes
We have previously, for a given positive integer $n$, explicitly characterized by certain linear inequalities the $\mathfrak{k}$-highest weight tableaux of shape length $2n$ or $2n-1$ produced by $1$-$0$-slack recording tableaux in the quantum Littlewood-Richardson (LR) rule. We now extend that characterization for lower shape lengths. Then using the composition of promotion operators defining the Naito-Suzuki-Watanabe bijection between $\mathfrak{k}$-highest weight tableaux and $\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$-dominant tableaux, we also explicitly characterize by certain linear inequalities the corresponding $\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$-dominant tableaux when the shape length is $2n$ or $2n-1$. In addition, when the given $n$ is $3$ or $ 4$ the $\mathfrak{k}$-highest weight and the $\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$-dominant tableaux via $1$-$0$-slack recording tableaux are characterized by linear inequalities for lower shape lengths. Since recording tableaux in the quantum Littlewood-Richardson rule are in natural bijection with Littlewood-Richardson-Sundaram (LRS) tableaux, we relate our results on the inverse quantum LR rule with other two bijections for the Naito-Sagaki conjecture and establish bijections between $\mathfrak{k}$-highest weight tableaux, $\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$-dominant tableaux and the lattice points in a (disjoint) union of flagged hive polytopes.

Cauchy identities for skew Ferrers shapes via RSK and keys
Let $μ\subseteqλ\subseteq(m^n)$. We characterize the image under the ordinary Robinson--Schensted--Knuth correspondence of matrices supported on the skew Ferrers diagram $λ/μ$. The outer boundary determines an upper bound on the right key of the insertion tableau, while the inner boundary determines a lower bound on its left key; both bounds depend on the keys of the recording tableau. This yields tableau expansions of skew Ferrers Cauchy kernels using the standard basis polynomials of Lascoux and Schützenberger, indexed by intervals in Bruhat order. The proof first treats ordinary Ferrers diagrams. Using the supremum characterization of right keys from earlier work, we follow the $λ$-dependent bounds through single RSK insertions. When $λ$ has repeated parts, these weak column bounds need not form a semistandard tableau. Strictification determines a set $\operatorname{Comp}(λ)$ of admissible weak compositions and, for each $α\in\operatorname{Comp}(λ)$, a composition $α^λ$. Ordinary RSK then gives a weight-preserving bijective realization of the expansion \[ \prod_{(i,j)\inλ}\frac{1}{1-x_i y_j} = \sum_{α\in\operatorname{Comp}(λ)} \hat K_α(x)K_{α^λ}(y), \] where $\hat K_α$ and $K_α$ denote Demazure atoms and key polynomials, respectively. We also give a direct admissibility criterion and a parking procedure for computing $α^λ$. After translating conventions, these agree with the admissibility condition and half-bubble-sort construction of Feigin, Khoroshkin, and Makedonskyi. The staircase and truncated-staircase identities follow as special cases. Finally, we extend the weak-bound construction to an infinite alphabet, where strictification need not exist, and derive the infinite-variable Cauchy identity for the $m$-symmetric Schur functions.

Pipe Dream Rectification and Dual RSK Correspondence
We prove Dennin's conjecture (Conjecture 8.9 of arXiv:2506.21052) that his variant of dual RSK correspondence is symmetric when restricted to biGrassmannian permutations. For a binary matrix $A$, let $A^\dagger$ denote its transpose-complement, and let $\operatorname{ins}(A)$ and $\operatorname{rec}(A)$ denote its insertion and recording tableaux. We prove that $\operatorname{ins}(A^\dagger) = \overline{\operatorname{rec}(A)}$, where the bar denotes the natural complement of the recording tableau. Our proof uses rectification of super pipe dreams and a downward induction on suffixes of $A$.

The slack data of the recording tableaux in the quantum Littlewood-Richardson map determine its inverse: some applications
We introduce the slack of a recording tableau in the quantum Littlewood-Richardson (LR) map and show that it inherits the needed data from LR-Sundaram tableaux to define the inverse of the quantum LR map. Notably this enriched slack information packs the suitable reverse Schensted column insertion routes to compute the inverse. The slack data is then applied to $\mathfrak{k}$-highest symplectic tableaux.

The recording tableaux of the quantum Littlewood-Richardson map and the orthogonal transpose symmetry map
Recently Watanabe has given an algorithm to compute a bijection, that he calls (quantum) Littlewood-Richardson (LR) map, between semi-standard Young tableaux of shape a partition with at most $2n$ parts and pairs of tableaux consisting of a symplectic tableau with shape a partition with at most $n$ parts, and a recording tableau of skew-shape given by the two previous shapes. The recording tableaux in that algorithm are shown to be equinumerous to Littlewood-Richardson-Sundaram tableaux whose injectivity is shown combinatorially while the surjectivity is concluded via representation theory of a quantum symmetric pair of type AII. Henceforth, the algorithm to compute the quantum LR map provides a new branching model for the branching multiplicities from $GL_{2n}(C)$ to $Sp_{2n}(C)$. Here, as morally suggested by Watanabe, one provides a combinatorial proof of the surjectivity of the quantum LR map which in turn exhibits the restriction of the LR orthogonal transpose symmetry map to LR-Sundaram tableaux.

Descent-restricted subsequences via RSK and evacuation
The length $\mathsf{is}(π)$ of a longest increasing subsequence in a permutation $π$ has been extensively studied. An increasing subsequence is one that has no descents. We study generalizations of this statistic by finding longest subsequences with other descent restrictions. We first consider the statistic which encodes the longest length of a subsequence with a given number of descents. We then generalize this to restrict the descent set of the subsequence. Extending the classical result for $\mathsf{is}(π)$, we show how these statistics can be obtained using the RSK correspondence and the Schützenberger involution. In particular, these statistics only depend on the recording tableau of the permutation.

Demazure crystals for flagged key polynomials
Published • View Publication • BIB
One definition of key polynomials is as the weight generating functions of key tableaux. Assaf and Schilling introduced a crystal structure on key tableaux and related it to Morse--Schilling crystals on reduced factorizations for permutations via weak Edelman--Greene insertion. In this paper, we consider generalizations of both crystals depending on a flag. We extend weak EG insertion to a bijection between our flagged objects and show that the recording tableau gives a crystal isomorphism. As an application, we show that flagged key tableaux have a natural Demazure crystal structure, whose characters recover Reiner and Shimozono's flagged key polynomials.
Box-ball systems and RSK recording tableaux
Published • View Publication • BIB
A box-ball system (BBS) is a discrete dynamical system consisting of n balls in an infinite strip of boxes. During each BBS move, the balls take turns jumping to the first empty box, beginning with the smallest-numbered ball. The one-line notation of a permutation can be used to define a BBS state. This paper proves that the Robinson--Schensted (RS) recording tableau of a permutation completely determines the dynamics of the box-ball system containing the permutation. Every box-ball system eventually reaches steady state, decomposing into solitons. We prove that the rightmost soliton is equal to the first row of the RS insertion tableau and it is formed after at most one BBS move. This fact helps us compute the number of BBS moves required to form the rest of the solitons. First, we prove that if a permutation has an L-shaped soliton decomposition then it reaches steady state after at most one BBS move. Permutations with L-shaped soliton decompositions include noncrossing involutions and column reading words. Second, we make partial progress on the conjecture that every permutation on n objects reaches steady state after at most n-3 BBS moves. Furthermore, we study the permutations whose soliton decompositions coincide with standard tableaux; we conjecture that they are closed under consecutive pattern containment and that the RS recording tableaux belonging to such permutations are counted by the Motzkin numbers.

Lenart's bijection via bumpless pipe dreams
Published • View Publication • BIB
Pipe dreams and bumpless pipe dreams for vexillary permutations are each known to be in bijection with certain semistandard tableaux via maps due to Lenart and Weigandt, respectively. Recently, Gao and Huang have defined a bijection between the former two sets. In this note we show for vexillary permutations that the Gao-Huang bijection preserves the associated tableaux, giving a new proof of Lenart's result. Our methods extend to give a recording tableau for any bumpless pipe dream.
RSK tableaux and box-ball systems
Published in Combinatorial Theory 3(2) (2023), #2 • View Publication • BIB
A box-ball system is a discrete dynamical system whose dynamics come from the balls jumping according to certain rules. A permutation on n objects gives a box-ball system state by assigning its one-line notation to n consecutive boxes. After a finite number of steps, a box-ball system will reach a steady state. From any steady state, we can construct a tableau called the soliton decomposition of the box-ball system. We prove that if the soliton decomposition of a permutation w is a standard tableau or if its shape coincides with the Robinson-Schensted (RS) partition of w, then the soliton decomposition of w and the RS insertion tableau of w are equal. We also use row reading words, Knuth moves, RS recording tableaux, and a localized version of Greene's theorem (proven recently by Lewis, Lyu, Pylyavskyy, and Sen) to study various properties of a box-ball system.
Permutations whose reverse shares the same recording tableau in the RSK correspondence
Published in Séminaire Lotharingien de Combinatoire, B86a (2022), 15 pp • Search Publication
The RSK correspondence is a bijection between permutations and pairs of standard Young tableaux with identical shape, where the tableaux are commonly denoted $P$ (insertion) and $Q$ (recording). It has been an open problem to demonstrate $$ |\{w \in \mathfrak{S}_n | \, Q(w) = Q(w^r)\}| = \begin{cases} \displaystyle 2^{\frac{n-1}{2}}{n-1 \choose \frac{n-1}{2}} & n \text{ odd} \newline \displaystyle 0 & n \text{ even} \end{cases}, $$ where $w^r$ is the reverse permutation of $w$. First we show that for each $w$ where $Q(w) = Q(w^r)$ the recording tableau $Q(w)$ has a symmetric hook shape and satisfies a certain simple property. From these two results, we succeed in proving the desired identity.
Iterating the RSK Bijection
Published • View Publication • BIB
We investigate the dynamics of the well-known RSK bijection on permutations when iterated on various reading words of the recording tableau. In the setting of the ordinary (row) reading word, we show that there is exactly one fixed point per partition shape, and that it is always reached within two steps from any starting permutation. We also consider the modified dynamical systems formed by iterating RSK on the column reading word and the reversed reading word of the recording tableau. We show that the column reading word gives similar dynamics to the row reading word. On the other hand, for the reversed reading word, we always reach either a 2-cycle or fixed point after two steps. In fact, we reach a fixed point if and only if the shape of the initial tableau is self-conjugate.

Sign insertion and Kazhdan-Lusztig cells of affine symmetric groups
Published • View Publication • BIB
Combinatorics of Kazhdan-Lusztig cells in affine type $A$ was originally developed by Lusztig, Shi, and Xi. Building on their work, Chmutov, Pylyavskyy, and Yudovina introduced the affine matrix-ball construction (abbreviated AMBC) which gives an analog of Robinson-Schensted correspondence for affine symmetric groups. An alternative approach to Kazhdan-Lusztig theory in affine type $A$ was developed by Blasiak in his work on catabolism. He introduced sign insertion algorithm and conjectured that if one fixes the two-sided cell, the recording tableau of sign insertion process determines uniquely and is determined uniquely by the left cell. In this paper we unite these two approaches by proving Blasiak's conjecture. In the process, we show that certain new operations we introduce called partial rotations connect the elements in the intersection of a left cell and a right cell. Lastly, we investigate the connection between Blasiak's sign insertion and the standardization map acting on the set of semi-standard Young tableaux defined by Lascoux and Schützenberger.

Bumping operators and insertion algorithms for queer supercrystals
Published in Sel. Math. New Ser. 28, 36 (2022) • View Publication • BIB
Results of Morse and Schilling show that the set of increasing factorizations of reduced words for a permutation is naturally a crystal for the general linear Lie algebra. Hiroshima has recently constructed two superalgebra analogues of such crystals. Specifically, Hiroshima has shown that the sets of increasing factorizations of involution words and fpf-involution words for a self-inverse permutation are each crystals for the queer Lie superalgebra. In this paper, we prove that these crystals are normal and identify their connected components. To accomplish this, we study two insertion algorithms that may be viewed as shifted analogues of the Edelman-Greene correspondence. We prove that the connected components of Hiroshima's crystals are the subsets of factorizations with the same insertion tableau for these algorithms, and that passing to the recording tableau defines a crystal morphism. This confirms a conjecture of Hiroshima. Our methods involve a detailed investigation of certain analogues of the Little map, through which we extend several results of Hamaker and Young.

Queer Supercrystal Structure for Increasing Factorizations of Fixed-Point-Free Involution Words
Published • View Publication • BIB
We show that the set of increasing factorizations of fixed-point-free (FPF) involution words has the structure of queer supercrystals. By exploiting the algorithm of symplectic shifted Hecke insertion recently introduced by Marberg, we establish the one-to-one correspondence between the set of increasing factorizations of fixed-point-free involution words and the set of primed tableau (semistandard marked shifted tableaux) and the latter admits the structure of queer supercrystals. In order to establish the correspondence, we prove that the Coxeter-Knuth related FPF-involution words have the same insertion tableau in the symplectic shifted Hecke insertion, where the insertion tableau is an increasing shifted tableau and the recording tableau is a primed tableau.
Coxeter-Knuth graphs and a signed Little map for type B reduced words
Published • View Publication • BIB
We define an analog of David Little's algorithm for reduced words in type B, and investigate its main properties. In particular, we show that our algorithm preserves the recording tableau of Kraśkiewicz insertion, and that it provides a bijective realization of the Type B transition equations in Schubert calculus. Many other aspects of type A theory carry over to this new setting. Our primary tool is a shifted version of the dual equivalence graphs defined by Assaf and further developed by Roberts. We provide an axiomatic characterization of shifted dual equivalence graphs, and use them to prove a structure theorem for the graph of Type B Coxeter-Knuth relations.

Robinson-Schensted-Knuth algorithm, jeu de taquin and Kerov-Vershik measures on infinite tableaux
Published in SIAM J. Discrete Math. 28 (2014), no. 2, 598-630 • View Publication • BIB
We investigate Robinson-Schensted-Knuth algorithm (RSK) and Schützenberger's jeu de taquin in the infinite setup. We show that the recording tableau in RSK defines an isomorphism of the following two dynamical systems: (i) a sequence of i.i.d. random letters equipped with Bernoulli shift, and (ii) a random infinite Young tableau (with the distribution given by Vershik-Kerov measure, corresponding to some Thoma character of the infinite symmetric group) equipped with jeu de taquin transformation. As a special case we recover the results on non-colliding random walks and multidimensional Pitman transform.

A q-weighted version of the Robinson-Schensted algorithm
Published in Electron. J. Probab. 18, 1-25 (2013) • View Publication • BIB
We introduce a q-weighted version of the Robinson-Schensted (column insertion) algorithm which is closely connected to q-Whittaker functions (or Macdonald polynomials with t=0) and reduces to the usual Robinson-Schensted algorithm when q=0. The q-insertion algorithm is `randomised', or `quantum', in the sense that when inserting a positive integer into a tableau, the output is a distribution of weights on a particular set of tableaux which includes the output which would have been obtained via the usual column insertion algorithm. There is also a notion of recording tableau in this setting. We show that the distribution of weights of the pair of tableaux obtained when one applies the q-insertion algorithm to a random word or permutation takes a particularly simple form and is closely related to q-Whittaker functions. In the case $0\le q<1$, the q-insertion algorithm applied to a random word also provides a new framework for solving the q-TASEP interacting particle system introduced (in the language of q-bosons) by Sasamoto and Wadati (1998) and yields formulas which are equivalent to some of those recently obtained by Borodin and Corwin (2011) via a stochastic evolution on discrete Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns (or semistandard tableaux) which is coupled to the q-TASEP process. We show that the sequence of P-tableaux obtained when one applies the q-insertion algorithm to a random word defines another, quite different, evolution on semistandard tableaux which is also coupled to the q-TASEP process.

On the Young-Fibonacci insertion algorithm
This work is concerned with some properties of the Young-Fibonacci insertion algorithm and its relation with Fomin's growth diagrams. It also investigates a relation between the combinatorics of Young-Fibonacci tableaux and the study of Okada's algebra associated to the Young-Fibonacci lattice. The original algorithm was introduced by Roby and we redefine it in such a way that both the insertion and recording tableaux of any permutation are \emph{conveniently} interpreted as chains in the Young-Fibonacci lattice. A property of Killpatrick's evacuation is given a simpler proof, but this evacuation is no longer needed in making Roby's and Fomin's constructions coincide. We provide the set of Young-Fibonacci tableaux of size $n$ with a structure of graded poset, induced by the weak order on permutations of the symmetric group, and realized by transitive closure of elementary transformations on tableaux. We show that this poset gives a combinatorial interpretation of the coefficients in the transition matrix from the analogue of complete symmetric functions to analogue of the Schur functions in Okada's algebra. We end with a quite similar observation for four posets on Young-tableaux studied by Taskin.
