We let $A=R/I$ be a standard graded Artinian algebra quotient of $R={\sf k}[x,y]$, the polynomial ring in two variables over a field ${\sf k}$ by an ideal $I$, and let $n$ be its vector space dimension. The Jordan type $P_\ell$ of a linear form $\ell\in A_1$ is the partition of $n$ determining the Jordan block decomposition of the multiplication on $A$ by $\ell$ -- which is nilpotent. The first three authors previously determined which partitions of $n=\dim_{\sf k}A$ may occur as the Jordan type for some linear form $\ell$ on a graded complete intersection Artinian quotient $A=R/(f,g)$ of $R$, and they counted the number of such partitions for each complete intersection Hilbert function $T$ arXiv:1810.00716.\par
We here consider the family $\mathrm{G}_T$ of graded Artinian quotients $A=R/I$ of $R={\sf k}[x,y]$, having arbitrary Hilbert function $H(A)=T$. The Jordan cell $\mathbb V(E_P)$ corresponding to a partition $P$ having diagonal lengths $T$ is comprised of all ideals $I$ in $R$ whose initial ideal is the monomial ideal $E_P$ determined by $P$. These cells give a decomposition of the variety $\mathrm{G}_T$ into affine spaces. We determine the generic number $κ(P)$ of generators for the ideals in each cell $\mathbb V(E_P)$, generalizing a result of arXiv:1810.00716. In particular, we determine those partitions for which $κ(P)=κ(T)$, the generic number of generators for an ideal defining an algebra $A$ in $\mathrm{G}_T$. We also count the number of partitions $P$ of diagonal lengths $T$ having a given $κ(P)$. A main tool is a combinatorial and geometric result allowing us to split $T$ and any partition $P$ of diagonal lengths $T$ into simpler $T_i$ and partitions $P_i$, such that $\mathbb V(E_P)$ is the product of the cells $\mathbb V(E_{P_i})$, and $T_i$ is single-block: $\mathrm{G}_{T_i}$ is a Grassmannian.

Let $G$ be a (multi) graph on the vertex set $V=\{0,1,\ldots ,n\}$ with root $0$. The $G$-parking function ideal $\mathcal{M}_G$ is a monomial ideal in the polynomial ring $R=\mathbb{K}[x_1,\ldots ,x_n]$ over a field $\mathbb{K}$ such that $\dim_{\mathbb K}\left(\frac{R}{\mathcal{M}_G}\right)=\det\left(\widetilde{L}_G\right)$, where $\widetilde{L}_G$ is the truncated Laplace matrix of $G$ and $\det\left(\widetilde L_G\right)$ is the determinant of $\widetilde L_G$. In other words, standard monomials of the Artinian quotient $\frac{R}{\mathcal{M}_G}$ correspond bijectively with the spanning trees of $G$. For $0\leq k\leq n-1$, the $k$-skeleton ideal $\mathcal{M}_G^{(k)}$ of $G$ is the monomial subideal $\mathcal{M}_G^{(k)}=\left\langle m_A:\emptyset\neq A\subseteq[n]\text{ and }|A|\leq k+1\right\rangle$ of the $G$-parking function ideal $\mathcal{M}_G=\left\langle m_A : \emptyset \neq A\subseteq[n]\right\rangle\subseteq R$. For a simple graph $G$, Dochtermann conjectured that $\dim_{\mathbb K}\left(\frac{R}{\mathcal{M}_G^{(1)}}\right)\geq\det\left(\widetilde{Q}_G\right)$, where $\widetilde Q_G$ is the truncated signless Laplace matrix of $G$. We show that Dochtermann conjecture holds for any (simple or multi) graph $G$ on $V$.

The classical coinvariant ring $R_n$ is defined as the quotient of a polynomial ring in $n$ variables by the positive-degree $S_n$-invariants. It has a known basis that respects the decomposition of $R_n$ into irreducible $S_n$-modules, consisting of the higher specht polynomials due to Ariki, Terasoma, and Yamada.
We provide an extension of the higher Specht basis to the generalized coinvariant rings $R_{n,k}$. We also give a conjectured higher Specht basis for the Garsia-Procesi modules $R_μ$, and provide a proof of the conjecture in the case of two-row partition shapes $μ$. We then combine these results to give a higher Specht basis for an infinite subfamily of the modules $R_{n,k,μ}$ recently defined by Griffin, which are a common generalization of $R_{n,k}$ and $R_μ$.

Let $G$ be an (oriented) graph on the vertex set $V = \{ 0, 1,\ldots,n\}$ with root $0$. Postnikov and Shapiro associated a monomial ideal $\mathcal{M}_G$ in the polynomial ring $ R = {\mathbb{K}}[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ over a field $\mathbb{K}$. A subideal $\mathcal{M}_G^{(k)}$ of $\mathcal{M}_G$ generated by subsets of $\widetilde{V}=V\setminus \{0\}$ of size at most $k+1$ is called a $k$-skeleton ideal of the graph $G$. Many interesting homological and combinatorial properties of $1$-skeleton ideal $\mathcal{M}_G^{(1)}$ are obtained by Dochtermann for certain classes of simple graph $G$. A finite sequence $\mathcal{P}=(p_1,\ldots,p_n) \in \mathbb{N}^n$ is called a spherical $G$-parking function if the monomial $\mathbf{x}^{\mathcal{P}} = \prod_{i=1}^{n} x_i^{p_i} \in \mathcal{M}_G \setminus \mathcal{M}_G^{(n-2)}$. Let ${\rm sPF}(G)$ be the set of all spherical $G$-parking functions. In this paper, a combinatorial description for all multigraded Betti numbers of the $k$-skeleton ideal $\mathcal{M}_{K_{n+1}}^{(k)}$ of the complete graph $K_{n+1}$ on $V$ are given. Also, using DFS burning algorithms of Perkinson-Yang-Yu (for simple graph) and Gaydarov-Hopkins (for multigraph), we give a combinatorial interpretation of spherical $G$-parking functions for the graph $G = K_{n+1}- \{e\}$ obtained from the complete graph $K_{n+1}$ on deleting an edge $e$. In particular, we showed that $|{\rm sPF}(K_{n+1}- \{e_0\} )|= (n-1)^{n-1}$ for an edge $e_0$ through the root $0$, but $|{\rm sPF}(K_{n+1} - \{e_1\})| = (n-1)^{n-3}(n-2)^2$ for an edge $e_1$ not through the root.

We introduce two lifts of the dual immaculate quasisymmetric functions to the polynomial ring. We establish positive formulas for expansions of these dual immaculate slide polynomials into the fundamental slide and quasi-key bases for polynomials. These formulas mirror connections between dual immaculate quasisymmetric functions, fundamental quasisymmetric functions, and Young quasisymmetric Schur functions, extending these connections from the ring of quasisymmetric functions to the full polynomial ring. We also consider a reverse variant of the dual immaculate quasisymmetric functions, mirroring the dichotomy between the quasisymmetric Schur functions and the Young quasisymmetric Schur functions. We show this variant is obtained by taking stable limits of one of our lifts, and utilize these reverse dual immaculate quasisymmetric functions to establish a connection between the dual immaculate quasisymmetric functions and the Demazure atom basis for polynomials.

Let $k \leq n$ be nonnegative integers and let $λ$ be a partition of $k$. S. Griffin recently introduced a quotient $R_{n,λ}$ of the polynomial ring $\mathbb{Q}[x_1, \dots, x_n]$ in $n$ variables which simultaneously generalizes the Delta Conjecture coinvariant rings of Haglund-Rhoades-Shimozono and the cohomology rings of Springer fibers studied by Tanisaki and Garsia-Procesi. We describe the space $V_{n,λ}$ of harmonics attached to $R_{n,λ}$ and produce a harmonic basis of $R_{n,λ}$ indexed by certain ordered set partitions $\mathcal{OP}_{n,λ}$. The combinatorics of this basis is governed by a new extension of the {\em Lehmer code} of a permutation to $\mathcal{OP}_{n, λ}$.

Let $\mathfrak{S}_n$ be the set of all permutations of $[n]=\{1,\ldots,n\}$ and let $W$ be the subset consisting of permutations $σ\in \mathfrak{S}_n$ avoiding 132 and 312-patterns. The monomial ideal $I_W = \left\langle \mathbf{x}^σ = \prod_{i=1}^n x_i^{σ(i)} : σ\in W \right\rangle $ in the polynomial ring $R = k[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ over a field $k$ is called a hypercubic ideal in the article (Certain variants of multipermutohedron ideals, Proc. Indian Acad. Sci.(Math Sci. Vol. 126, No.4, (2016), 479-500). The Alexander dual $I_W^{[\mathbf{n}]}$ of $I_W$ with respect to $\mathbf{n}=(n,\ldots,n)$ has the minimal cellular resolution supported on the first barycentric subdivision $\mathbf{Bd}(Δ_{n-1})$ of an $n-1$-simplex $Δ_{n-1}$. We show that the number of standard monomials of the Artinian quotient $\frac{R}{I_W^{[\mathbf{n}]}}$ equals the number of rooted-labelled unimodal forests on the vertex set $[n]$. In other words,
\[ \dim_k\left(\frac{R}{I_W^{[\mathbf{n}]}}\right) =
\sum_{r=1}^n r!~s(n,r) = {\rm Per}\left([m_{ij}]_{n \times n} \right),\] where $s(n,r)$ is the (signless) Stirling number of the first kind and ${\rm Per}([m_{ij}]_{n \times n})$ is the permanent of the matrix $[m_{ij}]$ with $m_{ii}=i$ and $m_{ij}=1$ for $i \ne j$. For various subsets $S$ of $\mathfrak{S}_n$ consisting of permutations avoiding patterns, the corresponding integer sequences $\left\lbrace \dim_k\left(\frac{R}{I_S^{[\mathbf{n}]}}\right) \right\rbrace_{n=1}^{\infty}$ are identified.

Fix an integer $n \geq 1$, and consider the set of all connected finite simple graphs on $n$ vertices. For each $G$ in this set, let $I(G)$ denote the edge ideal of $G$ in the polynomial ring $R = K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$. We initiate a study of the set $\mathcal{RD}(n) \subseteq \mathbb{N}^2$ consisting of all the pairs $(r,d)$ where $r = {\rm reg}(R/I(G))$, the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity, and $d = {\rm deg} h_{R/I(G)}(t)$, the degree of the $h$-polynomial, as we vary over all the connected graphs on $n$ vertices. In particular, we identify sets $A(n)$ and $B(n)$ such that $A(n) \subseteq \mathcal{RD}(n) \subseteq B(n)$. When we restrict to the family of Cameron-Walker graphs on $n$ vertices, we can completely characterize all the possible $(r,d)$.
The Gröbner fan of the Hilbert scheme

We give a notion of "combinatorial proximity" among strongly stable ideals in a given polynomial ring with a fixed Hilbert polynomial. We show that this notion guarantees "geometric proximity" of the corresponding points in the Hilbert scheme. We define a graph whose vertices correspond to strongly stable ideals and whose edges correspond to pairs of adjacent ideals. Every term order induces an orientation of the edges of the graph. This directed graph describes the behavior of the points of the Hilbert scheme under Gröbner degenerations with respect to the given term order.
Then, we introduce a polyhedral fan that we call Gröbner fan of the Hilbert scheme. Each cone of maximal dimension corresponds to a different directed graph induced by a term order. This fan encodes several properties of the Hilbert scheme. We use these tools to present a new proof of the connectedness of the Hilbert scheme. Finally, we improve the technique introduced in the paper "Double-generic initial ideal and Hilbert scheme" by Bertone, Cioffi and Roggero to give a lower bound on the number of irreducible components of the Hilbert scheme.

Let $G$ be a finite simple graph on the vertex set $V(G) = \{x_{1}, \ldots, x_{n}\}$ and match$(G)$, min-match$(G)$ and ind-match$(G)$ the matching number, minimum matching number and induced matching number of $G$, respectively. Let $K[V(G)] = K[x_{1}, \ldots, x_{n}]$ denote the polynomial ring over a field $K$ and $I(G) \subset K[V(G)]$ the edge ideal of $G$. The relationship between these graph-theoretic invariants and ring-theoretic invariants of the quotient ring $K[V(G)]/I(G)$ has been studied. In the present paper, we study the relationship between match$(G)$, min-match$(G)$, ind-match$(G)$ and $\dim K[V(G)]/I(G)$.

What can be said about the subalgebras of the polynomial ring, with minimal or maximal Hilbert function? This question was discussed in a recent paper by M. Boij and A. Conca. In this paper we study the subalgebras generated in degree two with minimal Hilbert function. The problem to determine the generators of these algebras transfers into a combinatorial problem on counting maximal north-east lattice paths inside a shifted Ferrers diagram. We conjecture that the subalgebras generated in degree two with minimal Hilbert function are generated by an initial Lex or RevLex segment.
An algebraic reduction of Hedetniemi's conjecture
For a graph $G$, let $χ(G)$ denote the chromatic number. In graph theory, the following famous conjecture posed by Hedetniemi has been studied: For two graphs $G$ and $H$, $χ(G\times H)=\min\{χ(G),χ(H)\}$, where $G \times H$ is the tensor product of $G$ and $H$. In this paper, we give a reduction of Hedetniemi's conjecture to an inclusion relation problem on ideals of polynomial rings, and we demonstrate computational experiments for partial solutions of Hedetniemi's conjecture along such a strategy using Gröbner basis.

The $F$-signature is a numerical invariant defined by the number of free direct summands in the Frobenius push-forward, and it measures singularities in positive characteristic. It can be generalized by focussing on the number of non-free direct summands. In this paper, we provide several methods to compute the (generalized) $F$-signature of a Hibi ring which is a special class of toric rings. In particular, we show that it can be computed by counting the elements in the symmetric group satisfying certain conditions. As an application, we also give the formula of the (generalized) $F$-signature for some Segre products of polynomial rings.

Given a homogeneous ideal $I$ in a polynomial ring over a field, one may record, for each degree $d$ and for each polynomial $f\in I_d$, the set of monomials in $f$ with nonzero coefficients. These data collectively form the tropicalization of $I$. Tropicalizing ideals induces a "matroid stratification" on any (multigraded) Hilbert scheme. Very little is known about the structure of these stratifications.
In this paper, we explore many examples of matroid strata, including some with interesting combinatorial structure, and give a convenient way of visualizing them. We show that the matroid stratification in the Hilbert scheme of points $(\mathbb{P}^1)^{[k]}$ is generated by all Schur polynomials in $k$ variables. We end with an application to the $T$-graph problem of $(\mathbb{A}^2)^{[n]}$; classifying this graph is a longstanding open problem, and we establish the existence of an infinite class of edges.

Let $\mathcal{D}$ be a weighted oriented graph and let $I(\mathcal{D})$ be its edge ideal in a polynomial ring $R$. We give the formula of Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of $R/I(\mathcal{D})$ when $\mathcal{D}$ is a weighted oriented path or cycle such that edges of $\mathcal{D}$ are oriented in one direction. Additionally, we compute the projective dimension for this class of graphs.

Let $I_1,\dots,I_n$ be ideals generated by linear forms in a polynomial ring over an infinite field and let $J = I_1 \cdots I_n$. We describe a minimal free resolution of $J$ and show that it is supported on a polymatroid obtained from the underlying representable polymatroid by means of the so-called Dilworth truncation. Formulas for the projective dimension and Betti numbers are given in terms of the polymatroid as well as a characterization of the associated primes. Along the way we show that $J$ has linear quotients. In fact, we do this for a large class of ideals $J_P$, where $P$ is a certain poset ideal associated to the underlying subspace arrangement.

Given a square-free monomial ideal $I$, satisfying certain hypotheses, in a polynomial ring $R$ over a field $\mathbb{K}$, we compute the projective dimension of $I$. Specifically, we focus on the cases where the 1-skeleton of an associated hypergraph is either a string or a cycle. We investigate the impact on the projective dimension when higher dimensional edges are removed. We prove that the higher dimensional edge either has no effect on the projective dimension or the projective dimension only goes up by one with the extra higher dimensional edge.
A basis for a quotient of symmetric polynomials
Consider the ring $\mathcal{S}$ of symmetric polynomials in $k$ variables over an arbitrary base ring $\mathbf{k}$. Fix $k$ scalars $a_{1},a_{2},\ldots,a_{k}\in\mathbf{k}$. Let $I$ be the ideal of $\mathcal{S}$ generated by $h_{n-k+1}-a_{1},h_{n-k+2}-a_{2},\ldots,h_{n}-a_{k}$, where $h_{i}$ is the $i$-th complete homogeneous symmetric polynomial. The quotient ring $\mathcal{S}/I$ generalizes both the usual and the quantum cohomology of the Grassmannian. We show that $\mathcal{S}/I$ has a $\mathbf{k}$-module basis consisting of (residue classes of) Schur polynomials fitting into an $\left( n-k\right) \times k$-rectangle; and that its multiplicative structure constants satisfy the same $S_3$-symmetry as those of the Grassmannian cohomology. We prove a Pieri rule and a "rim hook algorithm", and conjecture a positivity property generalizing that of Gromov-Witten invariants. We construct two further bases of $\mathcal{S}/I$ as well. We also study the quotient of the whole polynomial ring (not just the symmetric polynomials) by the ideal generated by the same $k$ polynomials as $I$.
Regularity of S_n-invariant monomial ideals
For a polynomial ring S in n variables, we consider the natural action of the symmetric group S_n on S by permuting the variables. For an S_n-invariant monomial ideal I in S and j >= 0, we give an explicit recipe for computing the modules Ext^j(S/I,S), and use this to describe the projective dimension and regularity of I. We classify the S_n-invariant monomial ideals that have a linear free resolution, and also characterize those which are Cohen-Macaulay. We then consider two settings for analyzing the asymptotic behavior of regularity: one where we look at powers of a fixed ideal I, and another where we vary the dimension of the ambient polynomial ring and examine the invariant monomial ideals induced by I. In the first case we determine the asymptotic regularity for those ideals I that are generated by the S_n-orbit of a single monomial by solving an integer linear optimization problem. In the second case we describe the behavior of regularity for any I, recovering a recent result of Murai.

We introduce a new class of polynomial ideals associated to a simple graph, $G$. Let $K[E_G]$ be the polynomial ring on the edges of $G$ and $K[V_G]$ the polynomial ring on the vertices of $G$. We associate to $G$ an ideal, $I(X_G)$, defined as the preimage of $(x_i^2-x_j^2 : i,j\in V_G)\subseteq K[V_G]$ by the map $K[E_G]\to K[V_G]$ which sends a variable, $t_e$, associated to an edge $e=\{i,j\}$, to the product $x_ix_j$ of the variables associated to its vertices. We show that $K[E_G]/I(X_G)$ is a one-dimensional, Cohen-Macaulay, graded ring, that $I(X_G)$ is a binomial ideal and that, with respect to a fixed monomial order, its initial ideal has a generating set independent of the field $K$. We focus on the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of $I(X_G)$ providing the following sharp upper and lower bounds: $$ μ(G) \leq \operatorname{reg} I(X_G) \leq |V_G|-b_0(G)+1, $$ where $μ(G)$ is the maximum vertex join number of the graph and $b_0(G)$ is the number of its connected components. We show that the lower bound is attained for a bipartite graph and use this to derive a new combinatorial result on the number of even length ears of nested ear decomposition.
