Partitions and the maximal excludant
For each nonempty integer partition $π$, we define the maximal excludant of $π$ to be the largest nonnegative integer smaller than the largest part of $π$ that is not a part of $π$. Let $σ\!\operatorname{maex}(n)$ be the sum of maximal excludants over all partitions of $n$. We show that the generating function of $σ\!\operatorname{maex}(n)$ is closely related to a mock theta function studied by Andrews \textit{et al.} and Cohen. Further, we show that, as $n\to \infty$, $σ\!\operatorname{maex}(n)$ is asymptotic to the sum of largest parts of all partitions of $n$. Finally, the expectation of the difference of the largest part and the maximal excludant over all partitions of $n$ is shown to converge to $1$ as $n\to \infty$.
Classifications of $\ell$-Zero-Sumfree Sets
The set of all $\ell$-zero-sumfree subsets of $\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z}$ is a simplicial complex denoted by $Δ_{n,\ell}$ We create an algorithm via defining a set of integer partitions we call $(n,\ell)$-congruent partitions in order to compute this complex for moderately-sized parameters $n$ and $\ell$. We also theoretically determine $Δ_{n,\ell}$ for several infinite families of parameters, and compute the intersection lattices and the characteristic polynomials of the corresponding coordinate subspace arrangements.

In this paper we give a fast algorithm to generate all partitions of a positive integer $n$. Integer partitions may be encoded as either ascending or descending compositions for the purposes of systematic generation. It is known that the ascending composition generation algorithm is substantially more efficient than its descending composition counterpart. Using tree structures for storing the partitions of integers, we develop a new ascending composition generation algorithm which is substantially more efficient than the algorithms from the literature.
Partition Inequalities and Applications to Sum-Product Conjectures of Kanade-Russell
We consider differences of one- and two-variable finite products and provide combinatorial proofs of the nonnegativity of certain coefficients. Since the products may be interpreted as generating functions for certain integer partitions, this amounts to showing a partition inequality. This extends results due to Berkovich-Garvan and McLaughlin. We then apply the first inequality and Andrews' Anti-telescoping Method to give a solution to an 'Ehrenpreis Problem' for recently conjectured sum-product identities of Kanade- Russell. That is, we provide some evidence for Kanade-Russell's conjectures by showing nonnegativity of coefficients in differences of product-sides as Andrews-Baxter and Kadell did for the product sides of the Rogers-Ramanujan identities.
Uniform asymptotic formulas for the Fourier coefficients of the inverse of theta functions
In this paper, we use basic asymptotic analysis to establish some uniform asymptotic formulas for the Fourier coefficients of the inverse of Jacobi theta functions. In particular, we answer and improve some problems suggested and investigated by Bringmann, Manschot, and Dousse. As applications, we establish the asymptotic monotonicity properties for the rank and crank of the integer partitions introduced and investigated by Dyson, Andrews, and Garvan.

We study edge asymptotics of poissonized Plancherel-type measures on skew Young diagrams (integer partitions). These measures can be seen as generalizations of those studied by Baik--Deift--Johansson and Baik--Rains in resolving Ulam's problem on longest increasing subsequences of random permutations and the last passage percolation (corner growth) discrete versions thereof. Moreover they interpolate between said measures and the uniform measure on partitions. In the new KPZ-like 1/3 exponent edge scaling limit with logarithmic corrections, we find new probability distributions generalizing the classical Tracy--Widom GUE, GOE and GSE distributions from the theory of random matrices.
Number Identities and Integer Partitions
Using a specific form of the triple product identity, polygonal number identities are stated. Further number identities are examined that can be considered identities related to modular sets of numbers. The identities can be used to give results on integer partitions with parts from numbers in modular arithmetic progression. This includes recursive formulas for the number of partitions using these modular parts. The triple product identity can derive further recursive formulas. Additionally, there is a recursive formula for the related sum of divisors function. The specific triple product identity provides a framework to examine all the identities and can be used to define related theta functions.
Character polynomials for two rows and hook partitions
Representation theory of the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ has a very distinctive combinatorial flavor. The conjugacy classes as well as the irreducible characters are indexed by integer partitions $λ\vdash n$. We introduce class functions on $\mathfrak{S}_n$ that count the number of certain tilings of Young diagrams. The counting interpretation gives a uniform expression of these class functions in the ring of character polynomials, as defined by \cite{murnaghanfirst}. A modern treatment of character polynomials is given in \cite{orellana-zabrocki}. We prove a relation between these combinatorial class functions in the (virtual) character ring. From this relation, we were able to prove Goupil's generating function identity \cite{goupil}, which can then be used to derive Rosas' formula \cite{rosas} for Kronecker coefficients of hook shape partitions and two row partitions.
Unimodal Sequence Generating Functions Arising from Partition Ranks
In this paper we study generating functions resembling the rank of strongly unimodal sequences. We give combinatorial interpretations, identities in terms of mock modular forms, asymptotics, and a parity result. Our functions imitate a relation between the rank of strongly unimodal sequences and the rank of integer partitions.

We study Wronskians of Appell polynomials indexed by integer partitions. These families of polynomials appear in rational solutions of certain Painlevé equations and in the study of exceptional orthogonal polynomials. We determine their derivatives, their average and variance with respect to Plancherel measure, and introduce several recurrence relations. In addition, we prove an integrality conjecture for Wronskian Hermite polynomials previously made by the first and last authors. Our proofs all exploit strong connections with the theory of symmetric functions.

We study the asymptotic behavior of the maximal multiplicity $M_n=M_n(σ)$ of the blocks in a set partition of $[n]=\{1,2,...,n\}$, assuming that $σ$ is chosen uniformly at random from the set of all such partitions. Let $W=W(n)$ be the unique positive root of the equation $We^W=n$ and let $f_n$ be the fractional part of $W(n)$. Furthermore, let $R_n=W^{\lfloor W\rfloor}/\lfloor W\rfloor !$ and let $\vartheta_n=\min{\{f_n,1-f_n\}}$. We show that, over a subsequence $\{n_k\}_{k\ge 1}$, $(M_{n_k}-R_{n_k})/\sqrt{R_{n_k}}$ converges weakly, as $k\to\infty$, to $\max{\{Z_1,Z_2-u\}}$, where $Z_1$ and $Z_2$ are two independent copies of a standard normal random variable and either $u=\left(\frac{1}{2π}\right)^{1/4}\lim_{k\to\infty}\vartheta_{n_k}\frac{\sqrt{n_k}}{\log^{7/4}{n_k}}\in [0,\infty)$ or $u=\infty$. The proof uses the saddle point method. A comparison with the similar statistic for random integer partitions of $n$ is also given.

A strongly concave composition of $n$ is an integer partition with strictly decreasing and increasing parts. In this paper we give a uniform asymptotic formula for the rank statistic of a strongly concave composition introduced by Andrews, Rhoades and Zwegers ['Modularity of the concave composition generating function', Algebra \& Number Theory 7 (2013), no. 9, 2103--2139].
Two Questions about the Fractional Counting of Partitions
We recall the notion of fractional enumeration and immediately focus on the fractional counting of integer partitions, where each partition gets credit equal to the reciprocal of the product of its parts. We raise two intriguing questions regarding this count, and for each of these questions, we are pledging a 100 US dollars donation to the OEIS in honor of the first solver. In this revised version we announce that both questions have been answered. The first was first answered by Will Sawin and the second was answered by Christopher Ryba. A donation to the OEIS, of 100 US dollars each, in their honor has been made.

On Permutation Weights and $q$-Eulerian Polynomials

Weights of permutations were originally introduced by Dugan, Glennon, Gunnells, and Steingrímsson (Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Series A 164:24-49, 2019) in their study of the combinatorics of tiered trees. Given a permutation $σ$ viewed as a sequence of integers, computing the weight of $σ$ involves recursively counting descents of certain subpermutations of $σ$. Using this weight function, one can define a $q$-analog $E_n(x,q)$ of the Eulerian polynomials. We prove two main results regarding weights of permutations and the polynomials $E_n(x,q)$. First, we show that the coefficients of $E_n(x, q)$ stabilize as $n$ goes to infinity, which was conjectured by Dugan, Glennon, Gunnells, and Steingrímsson (Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Series A 164:24-49, 2019), and enables the definition of the formal power series $W_d(t)$, which has interesting combinatorial properties. Second, we derive a recurrence relation for $E_n(x, q)$, similar to the known recurrence for the classical Eulerian polynomials $A_n(x)$. Finally, we give a recursive formula for the numbers of certain integer partitions and, from this, conjecture a recursive formula for the stabilized coefficients mentioned above.

The class of minimal difference partitions MDP($q$) (with gap $q$) is defined by the condition that successive parts in an integer partition differ from one another by at least $q\ge 0$. In a recent series of papers by A. Comtet and collaborators, the MDP($q$) ensemble with uniform measure was interpreted as a combinatorial model for quantum systems with fractional statistics, that is, interpolating between the classic Bose-Einstein ($q=0$) and Fermi-Dirac ($q=1$) cases. This was done by formally allowing values $q \in (0,1)$ using an analytic continuation of the limit shape of the corresponding Young diagrams calculated for integer $q$. To justify this "replica-trick", we introduce a more general model based on a variable MDP-type condition encoded by an integer sequence $(q_i)$, whereby the (limiting) gap $q$ is naturally interpreted as the Cesàro mean of $(q_i)$. In this model, we find the family of limit shapes parameterized by $q \in [0,\infty)$ confirming the earlier answer, and also obtain the asymptotics of the number of parts.
Marking and shifting a part in partition theorems
Refined versions, analytic and combinatorial, are given for classical integer partition theorems. The examples include the Rogers-Ramanujan identities, the Gollnitz-Gordon identities, Euler's odd=distinct theorem, and the Andrews-Gordon identities. Generalizations of each of these theorems are given where a single part is "marked" or weighted. This allows a single part to be replaced by a new larger part, "shifting" a part, and analogous combinatorial results are given in each case. Versions are also given for marking a sum of parts.
What is an answer? - remarks, results and problems on PIO formulas in combinatorial enumeration, part I
For enumerative problems, i.e. computable functions f from N to Z, we define the notion of an effective (or closed) formula. It is an algorithm computing f(n) in the number of steps that is polynomial in the combined size of the input n and the output f(n), both written in binary notation. We discuss many examples of enumerative problems for which such closed formulas are, or are not, known. These problems include (i) linear recurrence sequences and holonomic sequences, (ii) integer partitions, (iii) pattern-avoiding permutations, (iv) triangle-free graphs and (v) regular graphs. In part I we discuss problems (i) and (ii) and defer (iii)--(v) to part II. Besides other results, we prove here that every linear recurrence sequence of integers has an effective formula in our sense.

In [2] we introduced a new notion of Wilf equivalence of integer partitions and proved that rook equivalence implies Wilf equivalence. In the present paper we prove the converse and thereby establish a new criterion for rook equivalence. We also refine two of the standard criteria for rook equivalence and establish another new one involving what we call \emph{nested sequences of L's}.

The subjects of rook equivalence and Wilf equivalence have both attracted considerable attention over the last half-century. In this paper we introduce a new notion of Wilf equivalence for integer partitions, and, using this notion, we prove that rook equivalence implies Wilf equivalence. We also prove that if we refine the notions of rook and Wilf equivalence in a natural way, then these two notions coincide. In [6] we prove that Wilf equivalence implies rook equivalence.
