Butcher series for Hamiltonian Poisson integrators through symplectic groupoids
We exhibit a new pre-Lie algebra in the framework of symplectic groupoids and, in turn, introduce a pre-Lie formalism of Butcher trees for the approximation of Hamilton-Jacobi solutions on any symplectic groupoid $\mathcal{G} \rightrightarrows M.$ The impact of this new algebraic approach is twofold. On the geometric side, it yields algebraic operations to approximate Lagrangian bisections of $\mathcal{G}$ using the Butcher-Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra and, in turn, aims at a better understanding of the group of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms of $M.$ On the computational side, we define a new class of Poisson integrators for Hamiltonian dynamics on Poisson manifolds.

Frobenius subalgebra lattices in tensor categories
This paper studies Frobenius subalgebra posets in abelian monoidal categories and shows that, under general conditions--satisfied in all semisimple tensor categories over the complex field--they collapse to lattices through a rigidity invariance perspective. Based on this, we extend Watatani's finiteness theorem for intermediate subfactors by proving that, under a weak positivity assumption--met by all semisimple tensor categories over the complex field--and a compatibility condition--fulfilled by all pivotal ones--the lattices arising from connected Frobenius algebras are finite. We also derive a non-semisimple version via semisimplification. Our approach relies on the concept of a formal angle, and the extension of key results--such as the planar algebraic exchange relation and Landau's theorems--to linear monoidal categories. Major applications of our findings include a stronger version of the Ino-Watatani result: we show that the finiteness of intermediate C*-algebras holds in a finite-index unital irreducible inclusion of C*-algebras without requiring the simple assumption. Moreover, for a finite-dimensional semisimple Hopf algebra H, we prove that H* is a Frobenius algebra object in Rep(H) and has a finite number of rigid invariant Frobenius subalgebras. Finally, we explore a range of applications, including abstract spin chains, vertex operator algebras and speculations on quantum arithmetic involving the generalization of Ore's theorem, Euler's totient and sigma functions, and RH.

The free and parking quasi-symmetrizing actions
We define two actions of the infinite symmetric group on the set of words on positive integers, called the free and parking quasi-symmetrizing actions, whose invariants are respectively the elements of the Hopf algebras $\textbf{FQSym}^*$ and $\textbf{PQSym}^*$. We study in depth the parking quasi-symmetrizing action by generalizing it to actions with a parameter $r\in(\mathbb{N}\setminus \{0\} )\bigcup\{\infty\}$. We prove that the spaces of the invariants under these $r$-actions form an infinite chain of nested graded Hopf subalgebras of $\textbf{PQSym}^*$. We give some properties of these Hopf algebras including their Hilbert series, a basis, and formulas for their product and coproduct. Finally we look more closely at the case $r=\infty$, obtaining enumerative results related to trees with maximal decreasing subtrees of given sizes.

On the Hopf superalgebra of symmetric functions in superspace
Published • View Publication • BIB
We introduce a superspace analogue of combinatorial Hopf algebras (Aguiar-Bergeron-Sottile, 2006), and show that the Hopf superalgebra of quasi-symmetric (resp. symmetric) functions in superspace (Fishel-Lapointe-Pinto, 2019) is a terminal object in the category of all (resp. cocommutative) combinatorial Hopf superalgebras. We also introduce a superspace analogue of chromatic symmetric functions of graphs (Stanley, 1995) using the chromatic Hopf superalgebra of two-colored graphs.

A Hopf algebra generalization of the symmetric functions in partially commutative variables
The quasisymmetric functions, $QSym$, are generalized for a finite alphabet $A$ by the colored quasisymmetric functions, $QSym_A$, in partially commutative variables. Their dual, $NSym_A$, generalizes the noncommutative symmetric functions, $NSym$, through a relationship with a Hopf algebra of trees. We define an algebra $Sym_A$, contained within $QSym_A$, that is isomorphic to the symmetric functions, $Sym$, when $A$ is an alphabet of size one. We show that $Sym_A$ is a Hopf algebra and define its graded dual, $PSym_A$, which is the commutative image of $NSym_A$ and also generalizes $Sym$. The seven algebras listed here can be placed in a commutative diagram connected by Hopf morphisms. In addition to defining generalizations of the classic bases of the symmetric functions to $Sym_A$ and $PSym_A$, we describe multiplication, comultiplication, and the antipode in terms of a basis for both algebras. We conclude by defining a pair of dual bases that generalize the Schur functions and listing open questions.

Compatibility axioms for left-regular bands to construct Hopf algebras
Aguiar and Mahajan provided several coalgebra axioms and algebra axioms for a family of left-regular bands to construct a commutative diagram of algebras and coalgebras. In this paper, we will add compatibility axioms to make it a diagram of Hopf algebras.
Eigenvectors of the De Bruijn Graph Laplacian: A Natural Basis for the Cut and Cycle Space
We study the Laplacian of the undirected De Bruijn graph over an alphabet $A$ of order $k$. While the eigenvalues of this Laplacian were found in 1998 by Delorme and Tillich [1], an explicit description of its eigenvectors has remained elusive. In this work, we find these eigenvectors in closed form and show that they yield a natural and canonical basis for the cut- and cycle-spaces of De Bruijn graphs. Remarkably, we find that the cycle basis we construct is a basis for the cycle space of both the undirected and the directed De Bruijn graph. This is done by developing an analogue of the Fourier transform on the De Bruijn graph, which acts to diagonalize the Laplacian. Moreover, we show that the cycle-space of De Bruijn graphs, when considering all possible orders of $k$ simultaneously, contains a rich algebraic structure, that of a graded Hopf algebra.

A study of nil Hecke algebras via Hopf algebroids
Hopf algebroids are generalizations of Hopf algebras to less commutative settings. We show how the comultiplication defined by Kostant and Kumar turns the affine nil Hecke algebra associated to a Coxeter system into a Hopf algebroid without an antipode. The proof relies on mixed dihedral braid relations between Demazure operators and simple reflections. For researchers new to Hopf algebroids we include additional examples from ring theory, representation theory, and algebraic geometry.

Asymptotic normality arising in Baxter permutations
Baxter permutations arose in the study of fixed points of the composite of commuting functions by Glen Baxter in 1964. This type of permutations are counted by Baxter numbers $B_n$. It turns out that $B_n$ enumerate a lot of discrete objects such as the bases for subalgebras of the Malvenuto-Reutenauer Hopf algebra, the pairs of twin binary trees on $n$ nodes, or the diagonal rectangulations of an $n\times n$ grid. The refined Baxter number $D_{n,k}$ also count many interesting objects including the Baxter permutations of $n$ with $k-1$ descents and $n-k$ rises, twin pairs of binary trees with $k$ left leaves and $n-k+1$ right leaves, or plane bipolar orientations with $k+1$ faces and $n-k+2$ vertices. In this paper, we obtain the asymptotic normality of the refined Baxter number $D_{n,k}$ by using a sufficient condition due to Bender. In the course of our proof, the computation involving $B_n$ and some related numbers is crucial, while $B_n$ has no closed form which make the computation untractable. To address this problem, we employ the method of asymptotics of the solutions of linear recurrence equations. Our proof is semi-automatic. All the asymptotic expansions and recurrence relations are proved by utilizing symbolic computation packages.
The extra basis in noncommuting variables

We answer a question of Bergeron, Hohlweg, Rosas, and Zabrocki from 2006 to give a combinatorial description for the coproduct of the x-basis in the Hopf algebra of symmetric functions in noncommuting variables, NCSym, which arises in the theory of Grothendieck bialgebras. We achieve this using the theory of Hopf monoids and the Fock functor. We also determine combinatorial expansions of this basis in terms of the monomial and power sum symmetric functions in NCSym, and by taking the commutative image of the x-basis we discover a new multiplicative basis for the algebra of symmetric functions.

Prescribed duality dynamics in comodule categories
Published • View Publication • BIB
We prove that there exist Hopf algebras with surjective, non-bijective antipode which admit no non-trivial morphisms from Hopf algebras with bijective antipode; in particular, they are not quotients of such. This answers a question left open in prior work, and contrasts with the dual setup whereby a Hopf algebra has injective antipode precisely when it embeds into one with bijective antipode. The examples rely on the broader phenomenon of realizing pre-specified subspace lattices as comodule lattices: for a finite-dimensional vector space $V$ and a sequence $(\mathcal{L}_r)_r$ of successively finer lattices of subspaces thereof, assuming the minimal subquotients of the supremum $\bigvee_r \mathcal{L}_r$ are all at least 2-dimensional, there is a Hopf algebra equipping $V$ with a comodule structure in such a fashion that the lattice of comodules of the $r^{th}$ dual comodule $V^{r*}$ is precisely the given $\mathcal{L}_r$.

Gamma vectors as inverted Chebyshev expansions, type A to B transformations, and connections to algebraic structures
Given a reciprocal/palindromic polynomial of even degree, we show that the gamma vector is essentially given by an inverted Chebyshev polynomial basis expansion. As an immediate consequence, we characterize real-rootedness of a linear combination of Chebyshev polynomials in terms of real-rootedness of that of the reciprocal polynomial built out of an inverted scaled tuple of the coefficients with one fixed and the rest divided by 2. It can be taken as a counterpart for arbitrary dimensions of a recent result of Bel-Afia--Meroni--Telen on hyperbolicity of Chebyshev curves with respect to the origin. In general, Chebyshev varieties serve as a counterpart of toric varieties in sparse polynomial root finding. Apart from this, the inverted Chebyshev expansion also yields connections between intrinsic properties of the gamma vector construction and the geometric combinatorics of simplicial complexes and posets. We find this by applying work of Hetyei on Tchebyshev subdivisions and Tchebyshev posets. In particular, we find that the gamma vector transformation is closely related to $f$-vectors of simplicial complexes resulting from successive edge subdivisions that transform the type A Coxeter complex to the type B Coxeter complex. Lifting to this to a modification of $cd$-indices, we show that the gamma vector inverted Chebyshev polynomial expansion lifts to a sum of (subdivisions of) cross polytopes which can be computed using (topological) descent statistics. While there are many examples where gamma positivity involving descent statistics, it is interesting to note we only assume the input polynomial is reciprocal/palindromic. Finally, Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind from derivatives give connections to Hopf algebras and quasisymmetric functions along with Lefschetz-type maps induced by $\mathfrak{sl}_2(\mathbb{C})$-representations.

On the sub-adjacent Hopf algebra of the universal enveloping algebra of a post-Lie algebra
Published • View Publication • BIB
Recently the notion of post-Hopf algebra was introduced, with the universal enveloping algebra of a post-Lie algebra as the fundamental example. A novel property is that any cocommutative post-Hopf algebra gives rise to a sub-adjacent Hopf algebra with a generalized Grossman-Larson product. By twisting the post-Hopf product, we provide a combinatorial antipode formula for the sub-adjacent Hopf algebra of the universal enveloping algebra of a post-Lie algebra. Relating to such a sub-adjacent Hopf algebra, we also obtain a closed inverse formula for the Oudom-Guin isomorphism in the context of post-Lie algebras. Especially as a byproduct, we derive a cancellation-free antipode formula for the Grossman-Larson Hopf algebra of ordered trees through a concrete tree-grafting expression.
Wormhole Renormalization: The gravitational path integral, holography, and a gauge group for topology change
Published • View Publication • BIB
We study the Factorization Paradox from the bottom up by adapting methods from perturbative renormalization. Just as quantum field theories are plagued with loop divergences that need to be cancelled systematically by introducing counterterms, gravitational path integrals are plagued by wormhole contributions that spoil the factorization of the holographic dual. These wormholes must be cancelled by some stringy effects in a UV complete, holographic theory of quantum gravity. In a simple model of two-dimensional topological gravity, we outline a gravitational analog of the recursive BPHZ procedure in order to systematically introduce ``counter-wormholes" which parametrize the unknown stringy effects that lead to factorization. Underlying this procedure is a Hopf algebra of symmetries which is analogous to the Connes--Kreimer Hopf algebra underlying perturbative renormalization. The group dual to this Hopf algebra acts to reorganize contributions from spacetimes with distinct topology, and can be seen as a gauge group relating various equivalent ways of constructing a factorizing gravitational path integral.

Some properties of the Redei-Berge function and related combinatorial Hopf algebras
Stanley and Grinberg introduced the symmetric function associated to digraphs, called the Redei-Berge symmetric function. In [8] is shown that this symmetric function arises from a suitable structure of combinatorial Hopf algebra on digraphs. In this paper, we introduce two new combinatorial Hopf algebras of posets and permutations and define corresponding Redei-Berge functions for them. By using both theories, of symmetric functions and of combinatorial Hopf algebras, we prove many properties of the Redei-Berge function. These include some forms of deletion-contraction property, which make it similar to the chromatic symmetric function. We also find some invariants of digraphs that are detected by the Redei-Berge function.

On the structure of the d-indivisible noncrossing partition posets
We study the poset of d-indivisible noncrossing partitions introduced by Mühle, Nadeau and Williams. These are noncrossing partitions such that each block has cardinality 1 modulo d and each block of the dual partition also has cardinality 1 modulo d. Generalizing the work of Speicher, we introduce a generating function approach to reach new enumerative results and recover some known formulas on the cardinality, the Möbius function and the rank numbers. We compute the antipode of the Hopf algebra of d-indivisible noncrossing partition posets. Generalizing work of Stanley, we give an edge labeling such that the labels of the maximal chains are exactly the d-parking functions. This edge labeling induces an EL-labeling. We also introduce d-parking trees which are in bijective correspondence with the maximal chains.

Multi-quasisymmetric functions with semigroup exponents, Hopf algebras and Rota-Baxter algebras
Many years ago, G.-C.~Rota discovered a close connection between symmetric functions and Rota-Baxter algebras, and proposed to study generalizations of symmetric functions in the framework of Rota-Baxter algebras. Guided by this proposal, quasisymmetric functions from weak composition (instead of just compositions) were obtained from free Rota-Baxter algebras on one generator. This paper aims to generalize this approach to free Rota-Baxter algebras on multiple generators in order to obtain further generalizations of quasisymmetric functions. For this purpose and also for its independent interest, the space $\mathrm{MQSym}$ of quasisymmetric functions on multiple sequences of variables is defined, generalizing quasisymmetric functions and diagonally quasisymmetric functions of Aval, Bergeron and Bergeron. Linear bases of such multi-quasisymmetric functions are given by monomial multi-quasisymmetric functions and fundamental multi-quasisymmetric functions, the latter recover the fundamental $G^m$-quasisymmetric functions of Aval and Chapoton. Next introduced is the even more general notion of multi-quasisymmetric functions $\mathrm{MQSym}^E$ with exponents in a semigroup $E$, which also generalizes the quasisymmetric functions with semigroup exponents in a recent work. Through this approach, a natural Hopf algebraic structure is obtained on $\mathrm{MQSym}^E$. Finally, in support of Rota's proposal, the free commutative unitary Rota-Baxter algebra on a finite set is shown to be isomorphic to a scalar extension of $\mathrm{MQSym}^E$, a fact which in turn equips the free Rota-Baxter algebra with a Hopf algebra structure.

Polynomial realizations of Hopf algebras built from nonsymmetric operads
The natural Hopf algebra $\mathbf{N} \cdot \mathcal{O}$ of an operad $\mathcal{O}$ is a Hopf algebra whose bases are indexed by some words on $\mathcal{O}$. We construct polynomial realizations of $\mathbf{N} \cdot \mathcal{O}$ by using alphabets of noncommutative variables endowed with unary and binary relations. By using particular alphabets, we establish links between $\mathbf{N} \cdot \mathcal{O}$ and some other Hopf algebras including the Hopf algebra of word quasi-symmetric functions of Hivert, the decorated versions of the noncommutative Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra of Foissy, the noncommutative Faà di Bruno Hopf algebra and its deformations, the noncommutative multi-symmetric functions Hopf algebras of Novelli and Thibon, and the double tensor Hopf algebra of Ebrahimi-Fard and Patras.

The universal ${\mathfrak gl}$-weight system and the chromatic polynomial
Published • View Publication • BIB
In a recent paper Zhuoke Yang, New approaches to ${\mathfrak gl}(N)$ weight system, Izvestiya Mathematics, 2023, vol. 77:6, 150--166; arXiv:2202.12225 (2022) a construction of a weight system, which unifies ${\mathfrak gl}(N)$ weight systems for $N=1,2,\dots$, has been suggested. The construction is based on an extension of the ${\mathfrak gl}(N)$ weight systems to permutations. This universal weight system takes values in the algebra of polynomials ${\mathbb C}[N;C_1,C_2,\dots]$ in infinitely many variables. We show that under the substitution $C_m=xN^{m-1}$, $m=1,2,\dots$, the leading term in $N$ of the value of the universal ${\mathfrak gl}$ weight system becomes the chromatic polynomial of the intersection graph of the chord diagram. Moreover, we show that under the substition $C_m=p_m N^{m-1}$, $m=1,2,\dots$, the leading term in $N$ of the value of the universal ${\mathfrak gl}$ weight system determines a flitered Hopf algebra homomorphism from the rotational Hopf algebra of permutations, which we construct in the present paper, to the Hopf algebra of polynomials ${\mathbb C}[p_1,p_2,\dots]$.

The antipode of of a Com-PreLie Hopf algebra
We study the compatibility between the antipode and the preLie product of a Com-PreLie Hopf algebra, that is to say a commutative Hopf algebra with a complementary preLie product, compatible with the product and the coproduct in a certain sense. An example of such a Hopf algebra is the Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra, with the preLie product given by graftingof forests, extending the free preLie product of grafting of rooted trees. This compatibility is then used to study the antipode of the Connes-Moscovici subalgebra, whichcan be defined with the help of this preLie product. The antipode of the generators of this subalgebra gives a family of combinatorial coefficients indexed by partitions, which can be computed with the help of iterated harmonic sums.
