Cambrian trees are oriented and labeled trees which fulfill local conditions around each node generalizing the conditions for classical binary search trees. Based on the bijective correspondence between signed permutations and leveled Cambrian trees, we define the Cambrian Hopf algebra generalizing J.-L. Loday and M. Ronco's algebra on binary trees. We describe combinatorially the products and coproducts of both the Cambrian algebra and its dual in terms of operations on Cambrian trees. We also define multiplicative bases of the Cambrian algebra and study structural and combinatorial properties of their indecomposable elements. Finally, we extend to the Cambrian setting different algebras connected to binary trees, in particular S. Law and N. Reading's Baxter Hopf algebra on quadrangulations and S. Giraudo's equivalent Hopf algebra on twin binary trees, and F. Chapoton's Hopf algebra on all faces of the associahedron.

We observe that the Connes--Kreimer Hopf-algebraic approach to perturbative renormalisation works not just for Hopf algebras but more generally for filtered bialgebras $B$ with the property that $B_0$ is spanned by group-like elements (e.g. pointed bialgebras with the coradical filtration). Such bialgebras occur naturally both in Quantum Field Theory, where they have some attractive features, and elsewhere in Combinatorics, where they cover a comprehensive class of incidence bialgebras. In particular, the setting allows us to interpret Möbius inversion as an instance of renormalisation.

The general goal of this paper is to identify a transformation group that can be used to describe a class of feedback interconnections involving subsystems which are modeled solely in terms of Chen-Fliess functional expansions or Fliess operators and are independent of the existence of any state space models. This interconnection, called an output affine feedback connection, is distinguished from conventional output feedback by the presence of a multiplier in an outer loop. Once this transformation group is established, three basic questions are addressed. How can this transformation group be used to provide an explicit Fliess operator representation of such a closed-loop system? Is it possible to use this feedback scheme to do system inversion purely in an input-output setting? In particular, can feedback input-output linearization be posed and solved entirely in this framework, i.e., without the need for any state space realization? Lastly, what can be said about feedback invariants under this transformation group? A final objective of the paper is to describe the Lie algebra of infinitesimal characters associated with the group in terms of a pre-Lie product.
Dual Filtered Graphs

We define a K-theoretic analogue of Fomin's dual graded graphs, which we call dual filtered graphs. The key formula in the definition is DU-UD= D + I. Our major examples are K-theoretic analogues of Young's lattice, of shifted Young's lattice, and of the Young-Fibonacci lattice. We suggest notions of tableaux, insertion algorithms, and growth rules whenever such objects are not already present in the literature. We also provide a large number of other examples. Most of our examples arise via two constructions, which we call the Pieri construction and the Mobius construction. The Pieri construction is closely related to the construction of dual graded graphs from a graded Hopf algebra, as described by Bergeron-Lam-Li, Nzeutchap, and Lam-Shimizono. The Mobius construction is more mysterious but also potentially more important, as it corresponds to natural insertion algorithms.
Antipodes and involutions

If H is a connected, graded Hopf algebra, then Takeuchi's formula can be used to compute its antipode. However, there is usually massive cancellation in the result. We show how sign-reversing involutions can sometimes be used to obtain cancellation-free formulas. We apply this idea to nine different examples. We rederive known formulas for the antipodes in the Hopf algebra of polynomials, the shuffle Hopf algebra, the Hopf algebra of quasisymmertic functions in both the monomial and fundamental bases, the Hopf algebra of multi-quasisymmetric functions in the fundamental basis, and the incidence Hopf algebra of graphs. We also find cancellation-free expressions for particular values of the antipode in the immaculate basis for the noncommutative symmetric functions as well as the Malvenuto-Reutenauer and Porier-Reutenauer Hopf algebras, some of which are the first of their kind. We include various conjectures and suggestions for future research.

The dual immaculate functions are a basis of the ring QSym of quasisymmetric functions, and form one of the most natural analogues of the Schur functions. The dual immaculate function corresponding to a composition is a weighted generating function for immaculate tableaux in the same way as a Schur function is for semistandard Young tableaux; an "immaculate tableau" is defined similarly to a semistandard Young tableau, but the shape is a composition rather than a partition, and only the first column is required to strictly increase (whereas the other columns can be arbitrary; but each row has to weakly increase). Dual immaculate functions have been introduced by Berg, Bergeron, Saliola, Serrano and Zabrocki in arXiv:1208.5191, and have since been found to possess numerous nontrivial properties.
In this note, we prove a conjecture of Mike Zabrocki which provides an alternative construction for the dual immaculate functions in terms of certain "vertex operators". The proof uses a dendriform structure on the ring QSym; we discuss the relation of this structure to known dendriform structures on the combinatorial Hopf algebras FQSym and WQSym.
Hopf Algebras in Combinatorics
These notes -- originating from a one-semester class by their second author at the University of Minnesota -- survey some of the most important Hopf algebras appearing in combinatorics. After introducing coalgebras, bialgebras and Hopf algebras in general, we study the Hopf algebra of symmetric functions, including Zelevinsky's axiomatic characterization of it as a "positive self-adjoint Hopf algebra" and its application to the representation theory of symmetric and (briefly) finite general linear groups. The notes then continue with the quasisymmetric and the noncommutative symmetric functions, some Hopf algebras formed from graphs, posets and matroids, and the Malvenuto-Reutenauer Hopf algebra of permutations. Among the results surveyed are the Littlewood-Richardson rule and other symmetric function identities, Zelevinsky's structure theorem for PSHs, the antipode formula for P-partition enumerators, the Aguiar-Bergeron-Sottile universal property of QSym, the theory of Lyndon words, the Gessel-Reutenauer bijection, and Hazewinkel's polynomial freeness of QSym. The notes are written with a graduate student reader in mind, being mostly self-contained but requiring a good familiarity with multilinear algebra and -- for the representation-theory applications -- basic group representation theory.

We endow the set of isomorphic classes of matroids with a new Hopf algebra structure, in which the coproduct is implemented via the combinatorial operations of restriction and deletion. We also initiate the investigation of dendriform coalgebra structures on matroids and introduce a monomial invariant which satisfy a convolution identity with respect to restriction and deletion.
Quasisymmetric functions for nestohedra
For a generalized permutohedron $Q$ the enumerator $F(Q)$ of positive lattice points in interiors of maximal cones of the normal fan $Σ_Q$ is a quasisymmetric function. We describe this function for the class of nestohedra as a Hopf algebra morphism from a combinatorial Hopf algebra of building sets. For the class of graph-associahedra the corresponding quasisymmetric function is a new isomorphism invariant of graphs. The obtained invariant is quite natural as it is the generating function of ordered colorings of graphs and satisfies the recurrence relation with respect to deletions of vertices.

A general lattice theoretic construction of Reading constructs Hopf subalgebras of the Malvenuto-Reutenauer Hopf algebra (MR) of permutations. The products and coproducts of these Hopf subalgebras are defined extrinsically in terms of the embedding in MR. The goal of this paper is to find an intrinsic combinatorial description of a particular one of these Hopf subalgebras. This Hopf algebra has a natural basis given by permutations that we call Pell permutations. The Pell permutations are in bijection with combinatorial objects that we call sashes, that is, tilings of a 1 by n rectangle with three types of tiles: black 1 by 1 squares, white 1 by 1 squares, and white 1 by 2 rectangles. The bijection induces a Hopf algebra structure on sashes. We describe the product and coproduct in terms of sashes, and the natural partial order on sashes. We also describe the dual coproduct and dual product of the dual Hopf algebra of sashes.

We introduce a general construction that takes as input a so-called stiff PRO and that outputs a Hopf algebra. Stiff PROs are particular PROs that can be described by generators and relations with precise conditions. Our construction generalizes the classical construction from operads to Hopf algebras of van der Laan. We study some of its properties and review some examples of application. We get in particular Hopf algebras on heaps of pieces and retrieve some deformed versions of the noncommutative Faà di Bruno algebra introduced by Foissy.

In this work a combinatorial description is provided of a Faa di Bruno type Hopf algebra which naturally appears in the context of Fliess operators in nonlinear feedback control theory. It is a connected graded commutative and non-cocommutative Hopf algebra defined on rooted circle trees. A cancellation free forest formula for its antipode is given.
m-dendriform algebras
The Fuss-Catalan numbers are a generalization of the Catalan numbers. They enumerate a large class of objects and in particular m-Dyck paths and m+1-ary trees. Recently, F. Bergeron defined an analogue for generic m of the Tamari order on classical Dyck words. The author and J.-Y. Thibon showed that the combinatorial Hopf algebras related to these m-Tamari orders are defined thanks to the same monoid, the sylvester monoid, as in the m=1 case and that all related Hopf algebras also have m analogues.
We present here the m-generalization of another construction on Catalan sets: the dendriform algebras. These algebras are presented in two different ways: first by relations between the m+1 operations, relations that are very similar to the classical relations; and then by explicit operations splitting the classical dendriform operations defined on words into new operations. We then investigate their dual and show they are Koszul.
K-theoretic Poirier-Reutenauer bialgebra
We use the K-Knuth equivalence of Buch and Samuel to define a K-theoretic analogue of the Poirier-Reutenauer Hopf algebra. As an application, we rederive the K-theoretic Littlewood-Richardson rules of Thomas and Yong and of Buch and Samuel.
Decomposition Spaces, Incidence Algebras and Möbius Inversion
We introduce the notion of decomposition space as a general framework for incidence algebras and Möbius inversion: it is a simplicial infinity-groupoid satisfying an exactness condition weaker than the Segal condition, which expresses decomposition. We work on the objective level of homotopy linear algebra with coefficients in infinity-groupoids, developed along the way. To any (complete) decomposition space there is associated an incidence (co)algebra (with coefficients in infinity-groupoids), shown to satisfy a sign-free version of the Möbius inversion principle. Examples of decomposition spaces beyond Segal spaces are given by the Waldhausen S-construction and by Schmitt restriction species. Imposing certain homotopy finiteness conditions yields the notion of Möbius decomposition space, an extension of the notion of Möbius category of Leroux. We take a functorial viewpoint throughout, emphasising conservative ULF functors, and show that most reduction procedures in the classical theory are examples of this notion, and in particular that many are examples of decalage of decomposition spaces. Our main theorem concerns the Lawvere-Menni Hopf algebra of Möbius intervals, which contains the universal Möbius function (but does not come from a Möbius category): we establish that Möbius intervals form a decomposition space, which is in some sense universal.
NOTE: The notion of decomposition space was arrived at independently by Dyckerhoff and Kapranov (arXiv:1212.3563) who call it unital 2-Segal space. Our theory is quite orthogonal to theirs.
The characteristic polynomial of the Adams operators on graded connected Hopf algebras

The Adams operators $Ψ_n$ on a Hopf algebra $H$ are the convolution powers of the identity of $H$. We study the Adams operators when $H$ is graded connected. They are also called Hopf powers or Sweedler powers. The main result is a complete description of the characteristic polynomial (both eigenvalues and their multiplicities) for the action of the operator $Ψ_n$ on each homogeneous component of $H$. The eigenvalues are powers of $n$. The multiplicities are independent of $n$, and in fact only depend on the dimension sequence of $H$. These results apply in particular to the antipode of $H$ (the case $n=-1$). We obtain closed forms for the generating function of the sequence of traces of the Adams operators. In the case of the antipode, the generating function bears a particularly simple relationship to the one for the dimension sequence. In case H is cofree, we give an alternative description for the characteristic polynomial and the trace of the antipode in terms of certain palindromic words. We discuss parallel results that hold for Hopf monoids in species and $q$-Hopf algebras.
Hopf Algebras of m-permutations, (m+1)-ary trees, and m-parking functions

The m-Tamari lattice of F. Bergeron is an analogue of the clasical Tamari order defined on objects counted by Fuss-Catalan numbers, such as m-Dyck paths or (m+1)-ary trees. On another hand, the Tamari order is related to the product in the Loday-Ronco Hopf algebra of planar binary trees. We introduce new combinatorial Hopf algebras based on (m+1)-ary trees, whose structure is described by the m-Tamari lattices.
In the same way as planar binary trees can be interpreted as sylvester classes of permutations, we obtain (m+1)-ary trees as sylvester classes of what we call m-permutations. These objects are no longer in bijection with decreasing (m+1)-ary trees, and a finer congruence, called metasylvester, allows us to build Hopf algebras based on these decreasing trees. At the opposite, a coarser congruence, called hyposylvester, leads to Hopf algebras of graded dimensions (m+1)^{n-1}, generalizing noncommutative symmetric functions and quasi-symmetric functions in a natural way. Finally, the algebras of packed words and parking functions also admit such m-analogues, and we present their subalgebras and quotients induced by the various congruences.
Hypertree posets and hooked partitions
We adapt here the computation of characters on incidence Hopf algebras introduced by W. Schmitt in the 1990s to a family mixing bounded and unbounded posets. We then apply our results to the family of hypertree posets and partition posets. As a consequence, we obtain some enumerative formulas and a new proof for the computation of the Moebius numbers of the hypertree posets. Moreover, we compute the coproduct of the incidence Hopf algebra and recover a known formula for the number of hypertrees with fixed valency set and edge sizes set.
Modules of the 0-Hecke algebra and quasisymmetric Schur functions

We begin by deriving an action of the 0-Hecke algebra on standard reverse composition tableaux and use it to discover 0-Hecke modules whose quasisymmetric characteristics are the natural refinements of Schur functions known as quasisymmetric Schur functions. Furthermore, we classify combinatorially which of these 0-Hecke modules are indecomposable.
From here, we establish that the natural equivalence relation arising from our 0-Hecke action has equivalence classes that are isomorphic to subintervals of the weak Bruhat order on the symmetric group. Focussing on the equivalence classes containing a canonical tableau we discover a new basis for the Hopf algebra of quasisymmetric functions, and use the cardinality of these equivalence classes to establish new enumerative results on truncated shifted reverse tableau studied by Panova and Adin-King-Roichman.
Generalizing our 0-Hecke action to one on skew standard reverse composition tableaux, we derive 0-Hecke modules whose quasisymmetric characteristics are the skew quasisymmetric Schur functions of Bessenrodt et al. This enables us to prove a restriction rule that reflects the coproduct formula for quasisymmetric Schur functions, which in turn yields a quasisymmetric branching rule analogous to the classical branching rule for Schur functions.
