We construct an integrable colored six-vertex model whose partition function is a double Grothendieck polynomial. This gives an integrable systems interpretation of bumpless pipe dreams and recent results of Weigandt [arXiv:2003.07342] relating double Grothendieck polynomias with bumpless pipe dreams. For vexillary permutations, we then construct a new model that we call the semidual version model. We use our semidual model and the five-vertex model of Motegi and Sakai to given a new proof that double Grothendieck polynomials for vexillary permutations are equal to flagged factorial Grothendieck polynomials. Taking the stable limit of double Grothendieck polynomials, we obtain a new proof that the stable limit is a factorial Grothendieck polynomial as defined by McNamara. The states of our semidual model naturally correspond to families of nonintersecting lattice paths, where we can then use the Lindström-Gessel-Viennot lemma to give a determinant formula for double Schubert polynomials corresponding to vexillary permutations.

We introduce families of two-parameter multivariate polynomials indexed by pairs of partitions $v,w$ -- biaxial double $(β,q)$-Grothendieck polynomials -- which specialize at $q=0$ and $v=1$ to double $β$-Grothendieck polynomials from torus-equivariant connective K-theory. Initially defined recursively via divided difference operators, our main result is that these new polynomials arise as partition functions of solvable lattice models. Moreover, the associated quantum group of the solvable model for polynomials in $n$ pairs of variables is a Drinfeld twist of the $U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_{n+1})$ $R$-matrix. By leveraging the resulting Yang-Baxter equations of the lattice model, we show that these polynomials simultaneously generalize double $β$-Grothendieck polynomials and dual double $β$-Grothendieck polynomials for arbitrary permutations. We then use properties of the model and Yang-Baxter equations to reprove Fomin-Kirillov's Cauchy identity for $β$-Grothendieck polynomials, generalize it to a new Cauchy identity for biaxial double $β$-Grothendieck polynomials, and prove a new branching rule for double $β$-Grothendieck polynomials.

For an $n\times n$ matrix $A_n$, the $r\to p$ operator norm is defined as $$\|A_n\|_{r\to p}:= \sup_{\mathbf{x}\in\mathbb{R}^n:\|\mathbf{x} \|_r\leq 1 } \|A_n\mathbf{x} \|_p\quad\text{for}\quad r,p\geq 1.$$ For different choices of $r$ and $p$, this norm corresponds to key quantities that arise in diverse applications including matrix condition number estimation, clustering of data, and construction of oblivious routing schemes in transportation networks. This article considers $r\to p$ norms of symmetric random matrices with nonnegative entries, including adjacency matrices of Erdős-Rényi random graphs, matrices with positive sub-Gaussian entries, and certain sparse matrices. For $1<p\leq r<\infty$, the asymptotic normality, as $n\to\infty$, of the appropriately centered and scaled norm $\|A_n\|_{r\to p}$ is established. When $p \geq 2$, this is shown to imply asymptotic normality of the solution to the $\ell_p$ quadratic maximization problem, also known as the $\ell_p$ Grothendieck problem. Furthermore, a sharp $\ell_\infty$-approximation bound for the unique maximizing vector in the definition of $\|A_n\|_{r\to p}$ is obtained, and may be viewed as an $\ell_\infty$-stability result of the maximizer under random perturbations of the matrix with mean entries. This result is in fact shown to hold for a broad class of deterministic sequences of matrices having certain asymptotic expansion properties. The results obtained can be viewed as a generalization of the seminal results of Füredi and Komlós (1981) on asymptotic normality of the largest singular value of a class of symmetric random matrices. In the general case with $1<p\leq r< \infty$, spectral methods are no longer applicable, and so a new approach is developed involving a refined convergence analysis of a nonlinear power method and a perturbation bound on the maximizing vector, which may be of independent interest.

Given a family of lattice polytopes, two common questions in Ehrhart Theory are determining when a polytope has the integer decomposition property and determining when a polytope is reflexive. While these properties are of independent interest, the confluence of these properties is a source of active investigation due to conjectures regarding the unimodality of the $h^\ast$-polynomial. In this paper, we consider the Newton polytopes arising from two families of polynomials in algebraic combinatorics: Schur polynomials and inflated symmetric Grothendieck polynomials. In both cases, we prove that these polytopes have the integer decomposition property by using the fact that both families of polynomials have saturated Newton polytope. Furthermore, in both cases, we provide a complete characterization of when these polytopes are reflexive. We conclude with some explicit formulas and unimodality implications of the $h^\ast$-vector in the case of Schur polynomials.

Skew stable Grothendieck polynomials are $K$-theoretic analogues of skew Schur polynomials. We give a free-fermionic presentation of skew stable Grothendieck polynomials and their dual symmetric functions. By using our presentation, we derive a family of determinantal formulas, which are $K$-analogues of the Jacobi-Trudi formula for skew Schur functions. We also introduce a combinatorial method to calculate certain expansions of skew (dual) stable Grothendieck polynomials by using the non-commutative supersymmetric Schur functions.

A recent theorem of Hyde proves that the factorizations statistics of a random polynomial over a finite field are governed by the action of the symmetric group on the configuration space of $n$ distinct ordered points in $\mathbb R^3$. Hyde asked whether this result could be explained geometrically. We give a geometric proof of Hyde's theorem as an instance of the Grothendieck--Lefschetz trace formula applied to an interesting, highly nonseparated algebraic space. An advantage of our method is that it generalizes uniformly to an arbitrary Weyl group. In the process we study certain non-Hausdorff models for complements of hyperplane arrangements, first introduced by Proudfoot.

In their work on the infinite flag variety, Lam, Lee, and Shimozono (2018) introduced objects called bumpless pipe dreams and used them to give a formula for double Schubert polynomials. We extend this formula to the setting of K-theory, giving an expression for double Grothendieck polynomials as a sum over a larger class of bumpless pipe dreams. Our proof relies on techniques found in an unpublished manuscript of Lascoux (2002). Lascoux showed how to write double Grothendieck polynomials as a sum over alternating sign matrices. We explain how to view the Lam-Lee-Shimozono formula as a disguised special case of Lascoux's alternating sign matrix formula.
Knutson, Miller, and Yong (2009) gave a tableau formula for vexillary Grothendieck polynomials. We recover this formula by showing vexillary marked bumpless pipe dreams and flagged set-valued tableaux are in weight preserving bijection. Finally, we give a bijection between Hecke bumpless pipe dreams and decreasing tableaux. The restriction of this bijection to Edelman-Greene bumpless pipe dreams solves a problem of Lam, Lee, and Shimozono.

In 2007 Lam and Pylyavskyy found a combinatorial formula for the dual stable Grothendieck polynomials, which are the dual basis of the stable Grothendieck polynomials with respect to the Hall inner product. In 2016 Galashin, Grinberg, and Liu introduced refined dual stable Grothendieck polynomials by putting additional sequence of parameters in the combinatorial formula of Lam and Pylyavskyy. Grinberg conjectured a Jacobi--Trudi type formula for refined dual stable Grothendieck polynomials. In this paper this conjecture is proved by using bijections of Lam and Pylyavskyy.

The ring of symmetric functions has a basis of dual Grothendieck polynomials that are inhomogeneous $K$-theoretic deformations of Schur polynomials. We prove that dual Grothendieck polynomials determine column distributions for a directed last-passage percolation model.

The symmetric Grothendieck polynomials generalize Schur polynomials and are Schur-positive by degree. Combinatorially this is manifested as the generalization of semistandard Young tableaux by set-valued tableaux. We define a (weak) symmetric $P$-Grothendieck polynomial which generalizes $P$-Schur polynomials in the same way. Combinatorially this is manifested as the generalization of shifted semistandard Young tableaux by a new type of tableaux which we call shifted multiset tableaux.

There is a remarkable formula for the principal specialization of a type A Schubert polynomial as a weighted sum over reduced words. Taking appropriate limits transforms this to an identity for the backstable Schubert polynomials recently introduced by Lam, Lee, and Shimozono. This note identifies some analogues of the latter formula for principal specializations of Schubert polynomials in classical types B, C, and D. We also describe some more general identities for Grothendieck polynomials. As a related application, we derive a simple proof of a pipe dream formula for involution Grothendieck polynomials.

We give an explicit formula for the degree of the Grothendieck polynomial of a Grassmannian permutation and a closely related formula for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of the Schubert determinantal ideal of a Grassmannian permutation. We then provide a counterexample to a conjecture of Kummini-Lakshmibai-Sastry-Seshadri on a formula for regularities of standard open patches of particular Grassmannian Schubert varieties and show that our work gives rise to an alternate explicit formula in these cases. We end with a new conjecture on the regularities of standard open patches of arbitrary Grassmannian Schubert varieties.
A Chevalley formula for semi-infinite flag manifolds and quantum K-theory (Extended abstract)
We give a combinatorial Chevalley formula for an arbitrary weight, in the torus-equivariant K-theory of semi-infinite flag manifolds, which is expressed in terms of the quantum alcove model. As an application, we prove the Chevalley formula for anti-dominant fundamental weights in the (small) torus-equivariant quantum K-theory of the flag manifold G/B; this has been a longstanding conjecture about the multiplicative structure of the mentioned quantum K-theory. Moreover, in type A, we prove that the so-called quantum Grothendieck polynomials indeed represent Schubert classes in the (non-equivariant) quantum K-theory of the corresponding flag manifold.

We study certain bijection between plane partitions and $\mathbb{N}$-matrices. As applications, we prove a Cauchy-type identity for generalized dual Grothendieck polynomials. We introduce two statistics on plane partitions, whose generating functions are similar to classical MacMahon's formulas; one of these statistics is equidistributed with the usual volume. We also show natural connections with the longest increasing subsequences of words.

We explore some probabilistic applications arising in connections with $K$-theoretic symmetric functions. For instance, we determine certain corner distributions of random lozenge tilings and plane partitions. We also introduce some distributions that are naturally related to the corner growth model. Our main tools are dual symmetric Grothendieck polynomials and normalized Schur functions.

We give a combinatorial expansion of the stable Grothendieck polynomials of skew Young diagrams in terms of skew Schur functions, using a new row insertion algorithm for set-valued semistandard tableaux of skew shape. This expansion unifies some previous results: it generalizes a combinatorial formula obtained in earlier joint work with López Martín and Teixidor i Bigas concerning Brill-Noether curves, and it generalizes a 2000 formula of Lenart and a recent result of Reiner-Tenner-Yong to skew shapes. We also give an expansion in the other direction: expressing skew Schur functions in terms of skew Grothendieck polynomials.

Recently, Guo and Sun derived an identity for factorial Grothendieck polynomials which is a generalization of the one for Schur polynomials by Fehér, Némethi and Rimányi. We analyze the identity from the point of view of quantum integrability, based on the correspondence between the wavefunctions of a five-vertex model and the Grothendieck polynomials. We give another proof using the quantum inverse scattering method. We also apply the same idea and technique to derive an identity for factorial Grothendieck polynomials for rectangular Young diagrams. Combining with the Guo-Sun identity, we get a duality formula. We also discuss a $q$-deformation of the Guo-Sun identity.
Quasirandom quantum channels

Mixing (or quasirandom) properties of the natural transition matrix associated to a graph can be quantified by its distance to the complete graph. Different mixing properties correspond to different norms to measure this distance. For dense graphs, two such properties known as spectral expansion and uniformity were shown to be equivalent in seminal 1989 work of Chung, Graham and Wilson. Recently, Conlon and Zhao extended this equivalence to the case of sparse vertex transitive graphs using the famous Grothendieck inequality. Here we generalize these results to the non-commutative, or `quantum', case, where a transition matrix becomes a quantum channel. In particular, we show that for irreducibly covariant quantum channels, expansion is equivalent to a natural analog of uniformity for graphs, generalizing the result of Conlon and Zhao. Moreover, we show that in these results, the non-commutative and commutative (resp.) Grothendieck inequalities yield the best-possible constants.

We investigate the Jordan-Hölder property (JHP) in exact categories. First, we show that (JHP) holds in an exact category if and only if the Grothendieck monoid introduced by Berenstein and Greenstein is free. Moreover, we give a criterion for this which only uses the Grothendieck group and the number of simple objects. Next, we apply these results to the representation theory of artin algebras. For a large class of exact categories including functorially finite torsion(-free) classes, (JHP) holds precisely when the number of indecomposable projectives is equal to that of simples. We study torsion-free classes in a quiver of type A in detail using the combinatorics of symmetric groups. We introduce Bruhat inversions of permutations and show that simples in a torsion-free class are in bijection with Bruhat inversions of the corresponding $c$-sortable element. We use this to give a combinatorial criterion for (JHP).
