Constructing/analyzing differential distributed lattices
We restate a process presented by Stanley as a technique to prove that there exists exactly one $d$-differential distributive lattice for any positive integer $d$. This process can be trivially extended to apply to distributive finitary lattices that have a variety of differential poset structures. It can be viewed as an algorithm for constructing such lattices. Alternatively, it can be viewed as an algorithm for analyzing and characterizing such lattices.
We show that the process can be used to prove properties of all weighted-differential lattices with positive weights. We present this with the hope that this approach can be used as the basis for a complete characterization of distributive lattices with a weighted-differential structure with positive weights.
Polyptych lattices and marked chain-order polytopes
The theory of polyptych lattices is a framework to obtain a family of toric degenerations whose polytopes are related by piecewise-linear transformations. It can be regarded as a generalization of toric degenerations arising from cluster algebras. In this paper, we study polyptych lattices consisting of transfer maps for marked chain-order polytopes, and obtain a family of toric degenerations of a projective variety to marked chain-order polytopes for the Gelfand-Tsetlin poset. We also compute the Cox ring of this projective variety.
A canonicity criterion for toric varieties and the classification of canonical 4-simplices
Based on the Reid-Shepherd-Barron-Tai criterion for canonical and terminal quotient singularities, we characterize canonicity and terminality of a toric variety in terms of its local class group actions. Specializing it to the Picard number one setting, we arrive at a classification algorithm for canonical and terminal fake weighted projective spaces in any dimension. In dimension four it gives, up to isomorphism, 710450 canonical fake weighted projective spaces. We take a look at the corresponding Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces, compute the Fine interior of the associated canonical simplices, and discuss the results.
Deligne--Lusztig varieties, toric orbifolds, and the $q$-Klyachko algebra
We investigate the geometry behind the $q$-Klyachko algebra, introduced by Nadeau--Tewari. When $q$ is a prime power, we show that the $q$-Klyachko algebra is the image of the pullback map on Chow rings $\mathrm{CH}(\mathrm{Fl}_{n+1})\to\mathrm{CH}(\mathrm{DL}_n)$, where $\mathrm{DL}_n\subseteq \mathrm{Fl}_n$ is a compactified Deligne--Lusztig variety inside the complete flag variety $\mathrm{Fl}_{n+1}$. When $q$ is a positive rational number, we establish a Kähler package for the $q$-Klyachko algebra through inputs from toric geometry.
On continuous 2-frieze patterns
We define and study a continuous version of 2-frieze patterns, a combinatorial structure closely related with frieze patterns of Coxeter and Conway. We describe the relation of continuous 2-friezes with the moduli space of projective curves and relate the (pre)symplectic structure on the space of closed 2-friezes, considered as a cluster variety, with the Adler-Gelfand-Dikii bracket on the space of 3rd order differential operators.
Mysterious points in keys but not trees
The deep locus of a cluster variety is defined to be the set of its points that do not belong to any cluster torus. We show that, if the cluster variety has a seed whose mutable part is a tree without multiple edges, then the deep locus can be characterized as the set of points whose stabilizer under a certain group action is nontrivial. Deep points without a stabilizer are called mysterious. We establish that many other classes of acyclic quivers (including keys) often have mysterious points. This refutes Conjecture 1.1 of arXiv:2402.16970, but establishes it in many important cases.
Outer and inner medians in some small lattices
By median we mean a scheme that inputs three element of a lattice, and outputs an element that is an average of the three inputs in a certain sense. The medians of a given finite lattice form a new lattice that is usually larger than the original, but generates a (not necessarily strictly) smaller variety. A median is called inner if it is a term function. The inner median lattice is closely related to the symmetric part of the equational basis of the lattice. We determine the outer and inner median lattices of all lattices of at most six elements.
Towards the characterization of minimum weight codewords of Schubert codes
A conjectural formula for the minimum weight of Schubert codes was conjectured by Ghorpade in 2000. This was established by Xiang in 2008. In 2018, Ghorpade and Singh provided a new proof of this conjecture. Moreover, they also conjectured that the minimum weight codewords of the Schubert codes $C_\a (\ell, m)$ are given by the so-called \emph{Schubert decomposable codewords}. We prove the validity of the conjecture for all Schubert varieties $Ω_{\a}(\ell, V_m)$ for all but finitely many values of $q$.
The ABCT Variety $V(3,n)$ is a Positive Geometry
The ABCT variety $V(3,n)$ is the image closure of the rational Veronese map from the Grassmannian $\operatorname{Gr}(2,n)$ to the Grassmannian $\operatorname{Gr}(3,n)$. It was studied by Arkani-Hamed--Bourjaily--Cachazo--Trnka in the context of tree-level scattering amplitudes arising in planar $\mathcal N=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and Witten's twistor string theory. From this perspective, $V(3,n)$ is conjectured to be a positive geometry by Lam.
In this paper, we study the combinatorial and algebraic geometry aspects of $V(3,n)$ and its subvarieties induced by iteratively taking analytic boundaries of the totally nonnegative part. We interpret these subvarieties as point configurations on $\mathbb{P}^2$ by the Gelfand-MacPherson correspondence. We construct a top-degree meromorphic form on $V(3,n)$ and show that it is a positive geometry, proving Lam's conjecture.
Graded Ehrhart Theory of Unimodular Zonotopes
Graded Ehrhart theory is a new $q$-analogue of Ehrhart theory based on the orbit harmonics method. We study the graded Ehrhart theory of unimodular zonotopes from a matroid-theoretic perspective. Generalizing a result of Stanley (1991), we prove that the graded lattice point count of a unimodular zonotope is a $q$-evaluation of its Tutte polynomial. We conclude that the graded Ehrhart series of a unimodular zonotope is rational and obeys graded Ehrhart--Macdonald reciprocity. In an algebraic direction, we prove that the harmonic algebra of a unimodular zonotope is a coordinate ring of its associated arrangement Schubert variety. Using the geometry of arrangement Schubert varieties, we prove that the harmonic algebra of a unimodular zonotope is finitely generated and Cohen--Macaulay. We also give an explicit presentation of the harmonic algebra of a unimodular zonotope in terms of generators and relations. We conclude by classifying which unimodular zonotopes have Gorenstein harmonic algebras. Our work answers, in the special case of unimodular zonotopes, two conjectures of Reiner and Rhoades (2024).
Motivic Chern Classes of Open Projected Richardson Varieties and of Affine Schubert Cells
The open projected Richardson varieties are images of the open Richardson varieties of the complete flag variety under the canonical projection to the partial flag variety. Our main result compares the Segre motivic Chern (SMC) classes of the open projected Richardson varieties with those of the affine Schubert cells by pushing or pulling these classes to the affine Grassmannian. The main method is the recursive relation determined by the Demazure--Lusztig operators. As another application of this recursive relation, we relate the localization of the SMC classes to the twisted Kazhdan--Lusztig R-polynomials. In the case of Grassmannians, the open projected Richardson varieties are known as the open positroid varieties. We give a combinatorial formula for the SMC classes of these varieties.
Asymptotic Transfer in Critical Recursive Composition Schemes
The composition $\mathcal{F} \circ \mathcal{G}$ of two combinatorial classes $\mathcal{F}$ and $\mathcal{G}$ is a standard combinatorial construction and translates into the composition $F(G(z))$ of their corresponding counting generating functions. Such a composition is called critical if $G(ρ_G) = ρ_F$, where $ρ_F$ and $ρ_G$ denote the corresponding radii of convergences of $F$ and $G$, respectively. In this case, both the singular behaviours of $F$ and $G$ influence that of $F\circ G$. Such critical decomposition schemes appear quite frequently in the context of map enumeration. For example by using the block-decomposition one has $M(z) = B(z(1+M(z))^2)$ and $ρ_B = ρ_M (1+M(ρ_M))^2$, where $M(z)$ denotes the generating series of all rooted planar maps and $B(y)$ the generating series of $2$-connected rooted planar maps. This can be extended to multivariate generating functions by taking several statistics into account, for example face counts. Since critical composition schemes show (usually) a condensation phenomenon -- in the above situation this means that there is giant $2$-connected block of linear size and linearly many small blocks -- it is very plausible that statistical properties on $2$-connected maps transfer to corresponding properties of all maps and back. The purpose of the present paper is to make this precise on the level of the singular structure of the corresponding multivariate generating functions. In particular we show that moving $3/2$-singularities transfer. Since such kind of singularities are closely related to central limit theorems of the corresponding statistics this methods provides also a kind of transfer of central limit theorems. Actually this method is quite flexible and is applied to a variety of face and pattern counting statistics in map enumeration.
Quasi-Hermitian Varieties and Their Barlotti--Cofman Representation
Quasi-Hermitian varieties arise as higher-dimensional generalizations of non-classical unitals, including the Buekenhout--Metz (BM) and Buekenhout--Tits (BT) families.
After reviewing known constructions and structural properties, we determine explicitly the BC representation of BM and BT quasi-Hermitian varieties in $\mathrm{PG}(3,q^2)$ inside $\mathrm{PG}(6,q)$. We prove that BM varieties correspond to quadratic cones with hyperbolic base, whereas BT varieties give rise to non-quadratic cones, and we describe the associated configuration of spread elements in the section at infinity.
These results provide a geometric interpretation of the non-classical nature of BM and BT varieties within the BC framework.
Seidel product formula in equivariant quantum $K$-theory of flag varieties
We prove a Seidel product formula for the torus-equivariant quantum $K$-theory of a generalized flag variety $G/P.$ This is a natural generalization of the corresponding results by Buch, Chaput, and Perrin for the cominuscule flag varieties. Our proof is based on the $K$-theoretic Peterson isomorphism, due to Kato. We also use a version of the $K$-theoretic nil-Hecke algebra associated with the extended affine Weyl group, which was studied by Ikeda, Shimozono, and Yamaguchi.
Independent mutual-visibility sets and distance edge-critical graphs
In this paper, connections between independent sets and the variety of mutual-visibility sets are studied. It is proved that every outer mutual-visibility set of a graph is independent if and only if the graph is distance edge-critical. Several constructions yielding distance edge-critical graphs are given. Graphs in which every independent set is a total mutual-visibility or a dual mutual-visibility set are characterized, as well as graphs in which every total mutual-visibility set is independent. Along the way the total mutual-visibility number of some graphs derived from fullerenes is determined. Graphs in which every independent set is a mutual-visibility set are discussed and characterized over diameter four graphs. It is proved that determining the maximum cardinality of an independent mutual-visibility set and deciding whether it equals the independence number of a graph are NP-hard problems, and the same is true for independent total, outer and dual mutual-visibility sets.

This paper explores the cluster algebra structure of the moduli space $\mathscr{A}_{\mathrm{SL}_{n+1},\mathbb{S}}$ of twisted $\mathrm{SL}_{n+1}$-local systems on a surface. We derive general recurrence relations for cluster variables arising from flips of a triangulation, corresponding to specific sequences of mutations. Our approach is grounded in a detailed combinatorial analysis over the standard $n$-triangulated $m$-gon (with explicit calculations for $n=1,2$). As a generalization, the non-simply-laced $G_2$ type is also considered. We prove the "well-triangulated" property for cluster mutations under flips, which provides a combinatorial framework for understanding the stability and transformation rules of these cluster algebra structures, and compute the monomial counts for the cluster expansion formula.

We construct affine charts of a smooth projective toric variety which contain its nonnegative points, and which admit a closed embedding into the total coordinate space of Cox's quotient construction. We show that such positive charts arise from smooth subcones of the nef cone. To each positive chart we associate an algebraic moment map, the fibers of which are the critical points of a monomial function in Cox coordinates. This work provides a toric framework for the theory of $u$-equations in positive geometry.
Fast Shortest Path in Graphs With Sparse Signed Tree Models and Applications
A signed tree model of a graph $G$ is a compact binary structure consisting of a rooted binary tree whose leaves are bijectively mapped to the vertices of $G$, together with 2-colored edges $xy$, called transversal pairs, interpreted as bicliques or anti-bicliques whose sides are the leaves of the subtrees rooted at $x$ and at $y$. We design an algorithm that, given such a representation of an $n$-vertex graph $G$ with $p$ transversal pairs and a source $v \in V(G)$, computes a shortest-path tree rooted at $v$ in $G$ in time $O(p \log n)$. A wide variety of graph classes are such that for all $n$, their $n$-vertex graphs admit signed tree models with $O(n)$ transversal pairs: for instance, those of bounded symmetric difference, more generally of bounded sd-degeneracy, as well as interval graphs.
As applications of our Single-Source Shortest Path algorithm and new techniques, we
- improve the runtime of the fixed-parameter algorithm for first-order model checking on graphs given with a witness of low merge-width from cubic [Dreier and Toruńczyk, STOC '25] to quadratic;
- give an $O(n^2 \log n)$-time algorithm for All-Pairs Shortest Path (APSP) on graphs given with a witness of low merge-width, generalizing a result known on twin-width [Twin-Width III, SICOMP '24];
- extend and simplify an $O(n^2 \log n)$-time algorithm for multiplying two $n \times n$ matrices $A, B$ of bounded twin-width in [Twin-Width V, STACS '23]: now $A$ solely has to be an adjacency matrix of a graph of bounded twin-width and $B$ can be arbitrary;
- give an $O(n^2 \log^2 n)$-time algorithm for APSP on graphs of bounded twin-width, bypassing the need for contraction sequences in [Twin-Width III, SICOMP '24; Bannach et al. STACS '24];
- give an $O(n^{7/3} \log^2 n)$-time algorithm for APSP on graphs of symmetric difference $O(n^{1/3})$.
Point Count of the Top-dimensional Open Positroid Variety
In [GL24], Galashin and Lam discovered that when $k$ and $n$ are coprime, the proportion of subspaces in $\mathrm{Gr}(k,n)(\mathbb{F}_q)$ that lie in the top-dimensional open positroid variety $Π_{k,n}^\circ(\mathbb{F}_q)$ is $|(\mathbb{F}_q^\times)^n|/|\mathbb{F}_{q^n}^\times|$. In this paper, I recover this point count identity by relating the split torus action on $(Π_{k,n}^\circ)_{\mathbb{F}_q}$ and an anisotropic torus action on a $\mathbb{F}_q$ rational form of $Π_{k,n}^\circ$. The main step in the point count argument and the main technical result in this paper is that cyclic rotation acts trivially on the torus-equivariant cohomology of $Π_{k,n}^\circ$ when $k$ and $n$ are coprime.
Computations on the tautological basis of the cohomology ring of the Peterson variety
It is known that the set of square free monomials on the Chern classes of the tautological line bundles over the Peterson variety forms an additive basis of its cohomology ring. We study the expansion formula for their products. In particular, we give a square free expansion of the products multiplying degree 2 classes in terms of elementary symmetric polynomials and binomial coefficients.
