Metric Bases of Barycentric and Matching Subdivisions of Zero-Divisor Graphs
In this paper, we study metric bases and related metric properties for barycentric and partial matching subdivisions of the zero-divisor graph of $\mathbb Z_{pq}$, where $p$ and $q$ are distinct odd primes with $q>p$. We first recall the natural partition of the zero-divisor graph into the two prime classes and then give a detailed characterization of those subsets of $BS(Γ(\mathbb Z_{pq}))$ that form metric bases when $q\geq 2p-1$. The proof is expanded by separating the role of closed neighborhoods, rows of subdivision vertices, and forbidden twin configurations. We then investigate $M$-subdivision graphs obtained by subdividing selected edges of $Γ(\mathbb Z_{pq})$. In addition to the lower bounds for subdivisions of $p-3$ and $p-2$ edges, we prove an exact formula for matching subdivisions of arbitrary size $r$, $0\leq r\leq p-2$, namely $\dim(G_r)=p+q-r-4$. Several consequences are included to illustrate how a small matching subdivision can reduce the localization cost of the original zero-divisor network.
Combinatorial explanation of the weighted Kirchhoff index of graphs
Let $G$ be a connected graph with vertex set $V(G)=\{v_1,v_2,\ldots,v_n\}$, and let $ω:V(G)\to \mathbb R^+$ be a positive vertex-weight function satisfying $ω(v_i)=x_i$ for each $v_i \in V(G)$. The weighted Kirchhoff index of $G$ is defined by $K(G;x_1,x_2,\ldots,x_n)=\sum_{1\le i<j\le n}x_i x_j r_G(v_i,v_j)$, where $r_G(v_i,v_j)$ denotes the resistance distance between $v_i$ and $v_j$. In this paper, we give a combinatorial interpretation of the weighted Kirchhoff index of an arbitrary connected graph. More precisely, we express $K(G;x_1,x_2,\ldots,x_n)$ in terms of the sums of weights of matchings in an appropriately weighted subdivision graph of $G$, and in the subgraphs obtained from this weighted subdivision graph by deleting the subdivision graphs corresponding to \(2\)-regular subgraphs of $G$. This gives an affirmative answer to a question posed by Li, Li and Yan [Discrete Math. 345 (2022) 113109] concerning a combinatorial explanation of the weighted Kirchhoff index of a general graph by using matchings in weighted subdivision graphs and their subgraphs. As special cases, our formula recovers the known formulas for the weighted Kirchhoff index of trees and unicyclic graphs, as well as the known formula for the ordinary Kirchhoff index of an arbitrary connected graph.
A Degree Threshold for Independent Domination in Generalized Prisms
We study per-colour independent (k)-rainbow domination and its connection with independent domination in generalized prisms. Building on the known prism identity and the trivial regime above the maximum degree, we focus on the boundary case where the number of colours equals the maximum degree.
For every fixed (k\ge 3), we prove that the decision problem remains NP-complete even on a highly restricted class of graphs: (C_4)-free, bipartite, ((k,2))-biregular subdivision graphs arising from simple (k)-regular graphs. The reduction gives an exact correspondence between optimal rainbow-independent dominating functions on the subdivision graph and proper (k)-edge-colourings of the original graph.
We also introduce an excess parameter measuring how far the domination number lies above its natural lower bound. For cubic graphs, this excess coincides with the classical edge-colouring degree and therefore with standard resistance parameters for subcubic graphs.
These results reveal a sharp one-unit threshold: above the maximum degree the problem becomes trivial for every graph, while at the boundary NP-hard instances already occur within a very narrow structural family.
AVD Total Coloring of Central Graphs, Subdivision Graphs, and the Join of Graphs
In 2020, Panda, Verma, and Keerti asked whether the central graph of every graph satisfies the AVD-total coloring conjecture. In this paper, we verify the conjecture for central graphs of regular graphs, complete bipartite graphs, graphs that can be expressed as the join of two graphs of the same order, and several other graph classes, thereby providing partial progress towards this open problem. We further determine the AVD-total chromatic number of subdivision graphs and establish new results on the AVD-total coloring of joins of graphs.
Path-Minimality for Positive $p$-Energies, Laplacian-Type Spectra, and Line Graphs
We derive several applications of the path-minimality theorem for adjacency $p$-energy proved in the companion paper. First, we prove the sharp inequality $$
\mathcal E_p^+(G)\ge \mathcal E_p^+(P_n), $$ where $P_n$ is the path on $n$ vertices, in three settings: connected bipartite graphs for every real $p\ge2$, all connected graphs for every odd integer $p\ge3$, and all connected graphs for $p=4$. Second, using subdivision graphs, we prove path-minimality for Laplacian and signless Laplacian-type spectral sums, including power sums, Estrada-type quantities, resolvent energies, and thresholded tails. Third, we prove an edge-count second-order stop-loss comparison for the signless Laplacian above the threshold $2$. This yields the sharp line-graph inequality $$
\mathcal E_p^+(\mathcal L(G))\ge \mathcal E_p^+(P_m) $$ for every connected graph $G$ with $m$ edges and every real $p\ge2$.
Conjugacy Class Averages and Sidorenko's Conjecture
Sidorenko's conjecture asserts that for every bipartite graph $H$ and every graph $G$, \[
t(H,G)\geq t(K_2,G)^{e(H)}. \] A result of Szegedy shows that, in order to prove the conjecture, it suffices to verify the corresponding inequality on a special family of highly symmetric bipartite Cayley type hosts arising from symmetric groups. Motivated by this reduction, we study Cayley type bipartite kernels associated with functions on finite groups and their conjugacy class averages.
Our first result gives a reduction through conjugacy averaging: for a fixed bipartite graph $H$, if the $H$-density of each Cayley type host is at least the $H$-density of its conjugacy class average, then $H$ is strong Sidorenko, and hence Sidorenko. Our second result proves a Sidorenko-type inequality for 1-subdivision graphs on conjugacy-averaged Cayley kernels associated with arbitrary real-valued functions on finite groups.
Constructive characterizations concerning total outer-independent domination in subdivision trees
Let $G$ be a nontrivial connected graph with vertex set $V(G)$. A set of vertices $D\subseteq V(G)$ is called a total outer-independent dominating set of $G$ if every vertex of $G$ is adjacent to at least one vertex in $D$, and $V(G)\setminus D$ is an independent set of $G$. The total outer-independent domination number of $G$, denoted by $γ_t^{oi}(G)$, is the minimum cardinality among all total outer-independent dominating sets of $G$. The subdivision graph of $G$, denoted by $\mathtt{S}(G)$, is the graph obtained from $G$ by subdividing every edge exactly once. Cabrera-Martínez et al. [On the total outer-independent domination number of subdivision graphs, Comput. Appl. Math. 45 (2026) 315] proved that $\tfrac{4n(T)-l(T)-s(T)}{3}\leq γ_{t}^{oi}(\mathtt{S}(T))\leq \tfrac{4n(T)-l(T)+s(T)-2}{3}$ for any nontrivial tree $T$ of order $n(T)$ with $l(T)$ leaves and $s(T)$ support vertices. In this paper, we provide constructive characterizations of the families of trees that attain these bounds.
On distinguishing coloring and some variants of proper coloring of graphs derived from subdivision operations
Let G be a simple, finite, connected, and undirected graph, and T be a finite tree. The middle graph M(G) of G is obtained from the subdivision graph S(G) after joining pairs of subdivided vertices that lie on adjacent edges of G and the central graph C(G) of G is obtained from S(G) after joining all non-adjacent vertices of G.
We show that if the order of G is at least 4, then Aut(G), Aut(C(G)), and Aut(M(G)) are isomorphic (as abstract groups) and apply these results to obtain new sharp upper bounds of the distinguishing number and the distinguishing index of C(G) and M(G) inspired by an algorithm due to Kalinowski, Pilsniak, and Wozniak from 2016.
Furthermore, we study the total distinguishing chromatic number of C(G) and S(G), use Latin squares to verify the AVD-total coloring conjecture for central graphs of regular graphs and some other classes of graphs (which is a partial progress towards answering an open question of Panda, Verma, and Keerti from 2020), and obtain new bounds of the total dominator chromatic number of C(G) and C(T).
Unbalanced Zarankiewicz problem for bipartite subdivisions with applications to incidence geometry
For a bipartite graph $H$, its linear threshold is the smallest real number $σ$ such that every bipartite graph $G = (U \sqcup V, E)$ with unbalanced parts $|V| \gtrsim |U|^σ$ and without a copy of $H$ must have a linear number of edges $|E| \lesssim |V|$. We prove that the linear threshold of the complete bipartite subdivision graph $K_{s,t}'$ is at most $σ_s = 2 - 1/s$. Moreover, we show that any $σ< σ_s$ is less than the linear threshold of $K_{s,t}'$ for sufficiently large $t$ (depending on $s$ and $σ$).
Some geometric applications of this result are given: we show that any $n$ points and $n$ lines in the complex plane without an $s$-by-$s$ grid determine $O(n^{4/3 - c})$ incidences for some constant $c > 0$ depending on $s$; and for certain pairs $(p,q)$, we establish nontrivial lower bounds on the number of distinct distances determined by $n$ points in the plane under the condition that every $p$ points determine at least $q$ distinct distances.
Distinguishing chromatic number of middle and subdivision graphs
Let $G$ be a simple finite connected graph of order $n$ greater than or equal to $3$. We obtain the following results:
(1). We apply a result of Hamada and Yoshimura from 1976 and some recent results of Alikhani and Soltani (2020) and Kalinowski and Pilsniak (2015) to determine the distinguishing chromatic number of the middle graph $M(G)$ of the graph $G$. In particular, the distinguishing chromatic number $χ_{D}(M(G))$ of the middle graph $M(G)$ of the graph $G$ is $Δ(G)+1$ except for four small graphs $C_{4}, K_{4}, C_{6}$, and $K_{3,3}$, and $Δ(G)+2$ otherwise.
(2). In 2016, Kalinowski, Pilsniak, and Wozniak introduced the total distinguishing number $D''(G)$ of $G$. Inspired by a recent result of Mirafzal (2024), we show that the distinguishing number $D(S(G))$ of the subdivision graph $S(G)$ of $G$ is $D''(G)$. Consequently, $D(S(G))$ is at most $\lceil \sqrt{Δ(G)}\rceil$.
(3). We obtain a sharp upper bound for the distinguishing chromatic number of the subdivision graph $S(G)$ of $G$ in terms of the distinguishing number of $G$.
Chordal bipartite graphs, biclique vertex partitions and Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of $1$-subdivision graphs
A biclique in a graph $G$ is a complete bipartite subgraph (not necessarily induced), and the least positive integer $k$ for which the vertex set of $G$ can be partitioned into at most $k$ bicliques is the biclique vertex partition number $bp(G)$ of $G$. We prove that the inequality $reg(S(G))\geq |G|-bp(G)$ holds for every graph $G$, where $S(G)$ is the $1$-subdivision graph of $G$ and $reg(S(G))$ denotes the (Castelnuovo-Mumford) regularity of the graph $S(G)$. In particular, we show that the equality $reg(S(B))=|B|-bp(B)$ holds provided that $B$ is a chordal bipartite graph. Furthermore, for every chordal bipartite graph $B$, we prove that the independence complex of $S(B)$ is either contractible or homotopy equivalent to a sphere, and provide a polynomial time checkable criteria for when it is contractible, and describe the dimension of the sphere when it is not.
On the average squared radius of gyration of a family of embeddings of subdivision graphs
Suppose we have an embedding of a graph $\mathbf{G}$ created by subdividing the edges of a simpler graph $\mathbf{G'}$. The edges of $\mathbf{G}$ can be divided into subsets which join pairs of ``junction'' vertices in $\mathbf{G'}$. The displacement vectors of the edges in each subset sum to the displacement between junctions. We can construct a family of embeddings of $\mathbf{G}$ with the same junction positions by rearranging the displacements in each group. In this paper, we show that the average (squared) radius of gyration of these embeddings is given by a simple formula involving a weighted (squared) radius of gyration of the positions of the junctions and the sum of the squares of the lengths of the edges of $\mathbf{G}$ and $\mathbf{G'}$. This ensemble of graph embeddings arises naturally in polymer science.
Isospectral graphs via spectral bracketing
In this article, we develop a perturbative technique to construct families of non-isomorphic discrete graphs which are isospectral for the standard (also called normalised) Laplacian and its signless version. We use vertex contractions as a graph perturbation and spectral bracketing with auxiliary graphs which have certain eigenvalues with high multiplicity. There is no need to know explicitly the eigenvalues or eigenfunctions of the corresponding graphs. We illustrate the method by presenting several families of examples of isospectral graphs including fuzzy complete bipartite graphs and subdivision graphs obtained from the previous examples. All the examples constructed turn out to be also isospectral for the standard (Kirchhoff) Laplacian on the associated equilateral metric graph.

Let $G$ be a graph and let $S(G)$, $M(G)$, and $T(G)$ be the subdivision, the middle, and the total graph of $G$, respectively. Let ${\rm dim}(G)$, ${\rm edim}(G)$, and ${\rm mdim}(G)$ be the metric dimension, the edge metric dimension, and the mixed metric dimension of $G$, respectively. In this paper, for the subdivision graph it is proved that $\frac{1}{2}\max\{{\rm dim}(G),{\rm edim}(G)\}\leq{\rm mdim}(S(G))\leq{\rm mdim}(G)$. A family of graphs $G_n$ is constructed for which ${\rm mdim}(G_n)-{\rm mdim}(S(G_n))\ge 2$ holds and this shows that the inequality ${\rm mdim}(S(G))\leq{\rm mdim}(G)$ can be strict, while for a cactus graph $G$, ${\rm mdim}(S(G))={\rm mdim}(G)$. For the middle graph it is proved that ${\rm dim}(M(G))\leq{\rm mdim}(G)$ holds, and if $G$ is tree with $n_1(G)$ leaves, then ${\rm dim}(M(G))={\rm mdim}(G)=n_1(G)$. Moreover, for the total graph it is proved that ${\rm mdim}(T(G))=2n_1(G)$ and ${\rm dim}(G)\leq{\rm dim}(T(G))\leq n_1(G)$ hold when $G$ is a tree.

For graphs $F$, $G$, and $H$, we write $F \to (G,H)$ if every red-blue coloring of the edges of $F$ produces a red copy of $G$ or a blue copy of $H$. The graph $F$ is said to be $(G,H)$-minimal if it is subgraph-minimal with respect to this property. The characterization problem for Ramsey-minimal graphs is classically done for finite graphs. In 2021, Barrett and the second author generalized this problem to infinite graphs. They asked which pairs $(G,H)$ admit a Ramsey-minimal graph and which ones do not. We show that any pair of star forests such that at least one of them involves an infinite-star component admits no Ramsey-minimal graph. Also, we construct a Ramsey-minimal graph for a finite star forest versus a subdivision graph. This paper builds upon the results of Burr et al. in 1981 on Ramsey-minimal graphs for finite star forests.
Leap eccentric connectivity index of some graph operations with subdivided edges
The leap eccentric connectivity index of $G$ is defined as $$Lξ^{C}(G)=\sum_{v\in V(G)}d_{2}(v|G)e(v|G)$$ where $d_{2}(v|G) $ be the second degree of the vertex $v$ and $e(v|G)$ be the eccentricity of the vertex $v$ in $G$. In this paper, we first give a counterexample for that if $G$ be a graph and $S(G)$ be its the subdivision graph, then each vertex $v\in V(G)$, $e(v|S(G))=2e(v|G)$ by Yarahmadi in \cite{yar14} in Theorem 3.1. And we describe the upper and lower bounds of the leap eccentric connectivity index of four graphs based on subdivision edges, and then give the expressions of the leap eccentric connectivity index of join graph based on subdivision, finally, give the bounds of the leap eccentric connectivity index of four variants of the corona graph.

For a given graph $G$, the metric and edge metric dimensions of $G$, $\dim(G)$ and ${\rm edim}(G)$, are the cardinalities of the smallest possible subsets of vertices in $V(G)$ such that they uniquely identify the vertices and the edges of $G$, respectively, by means of distances. It is already known that metric and edge metric dimensions are not in general comparable. Infinite families of graphs with pendant vertices in which the edge metric dimension is smaller than the metric dimension are already known. In this article, we construct a 2-connected graph $G$ such that $\dim(G)=a$ and ${\rm edim}(G)=b$ for every pair of integers $a,b$, where $4\le b<a$. For this we use subdivisions of complete graphs, whose metric dimension is in some cases smaller than the edge metric dimension. Along the way, we present an upper bound for the metric and edge metric dimensions of subdivision graphs under some special conditions.

In this paper, we introduce a generalization of corona of graphs. This construction generalizes the generalized corona of graphs (consequently, the corona of graphs), the cluster of graphs, the corona-vertex subdivision graph of graphs and the corona-edge subdivision graph of graphs. Further, it enables to get some more variants of corona of graphs as its particular cases. To determine the spectra of the adjacency, Laplacian and the signless Laplacian matrices of the above mentioned graphs, we define a notion namely, the coronal of a matrix constrained by an index set, which generalizes the coronal of a graph matrix. Then we prove several results pertain to the determination of this value. Then we determine the characteristic polynomials of the adjacency and the Laplacian matrices of this graph in terms of the characteristic polynomials of the adjacency and the Laplacian matrices of the constituent graphs and the coronal of some matrices related to the constituent graphs. Using these, we derive the characteristic polynomials of the adjacency and the Laplacian matrices of the above mentioned existing variants of corona of graphs, and some more variants of corona of graphs with some special constraints.
The normalized Laplacians and random walks of the parallel subdivision graphs
The $k$-parallel subdivision graph $S_k(G)$ is generated from $G$ which each edge of $G$ is replaced by $k$ parallel paths of length 2. The $2k$-parallel subdivision graph $S_{2k}(G)$ is constructed from $G$ which each edge of $G$ is replaced by $k$ parallel paths of length 3. In this paper, the normalized Laplacian spectra of $S_k(G)$ and $S_{2k}(G)$ are given. They turn out that the multiplicities of the corresponding eigenvalues are only determined by $k$. As applications, the expected hitting time, the expected commute time and any two-points resistance distance between vertices $i$ and $j$ of $S_k(G)$, the normalized Laplacian spectra of $S_k(G)$ and $S_{2k}(G)$ with $r$ iterations are given. Moreover, the multiplicative degree Kirchhoff index, Kemeny's constant and the number of spanning tress of $S_k(G)$, $S_k^r(G)$, $S_{2k}(G)$ and $S_{2k}^r(G)$ are respectively obtained. Our results have generalized the previous works in Xie et al. and Guo et al. respectively.

In this paper, we study energies associated with hypergraphs. More precisely, we obtain results for the incidence and the singless Laplacian energies of uniform hypergraphs. In particular, we obtain bounds for the incidence energy as functions of well known parameters, such as maximum degree, Zagreb index and spectral radius. We also relate the incidence and signless Laplacian energies of a hypergraph with the adjacency energies of its subdivision graph and line multigraph, respectively. In addition, we compute the signless Laplacian energy for the class of the power hypergraphs.
