We study the space of linear difference equations with periodic coefficients and (anti)periodic solutions. We show that this space is isomorphic to the space of tame frieze patterns and closely related to the moduli space of configurations of points in the projective space. We define the notion of combinatorial Gale transform which is a duality between periodic difference equations of different orders. We describe periodic rational maps generalizing the classical Gauss map.

We introduce an axiom on strong parapolar spaces of diameter 2, which arises naturally in the framework of Hjelmslev geometries. This way, we characterize the Hjelmslev-Moufang plane and its relatives (line Grassmannians, certain half-spin geometries and Segre geometries). At the same time we provide a more general framework for a Lemma of Cohen, which is widely used to study parapolar spaces. As an application, if the geometries are embedded in projective space, we provide a common characterization of (projections of) Segre varieties, line Grassmann varieties, half-spin varieties of low rank, and the exceptional variety $\mathcal{E}_{6,1}$ by means of a local condition on tangent spaces.

We prove that a non-empty set L of at most q^5+q^4+q^3+q^2+q+1 lines of PG(n, q) with the properties that (1) every point of PG(n,q) is incident with either 0 or q+1 elements of L, (2) every plane plane of PG(n, q) is incident with either 0, 1 or q+1 elements of L, (3) every solid of PG(n, q) is incident with either 0, 1, q+1 or 2q+1 elements of L, and (4) every 4-dimensional subspace of PG(n, q) is incident with at most q^3-q^2+4q elements of L, is necessarily the set of lines of a split Cayley hexagon H(q) naturally embedded in PG(6, q).
The complement of a point subset in a projective space and a Grassmann space
In a projective space we fix some set of points, a horizon, and investigate the complement of that horizon. We prove, under some assumptions on the size of lines, that the ambient projective space, together with its horizon, both can be recovered in that complement. Then we apply this result to show something similar for Grassmann spaces.
Canonical Forms and Automorphisms in the Projective Space
Let $\C$ be a sequence of multisets of subspaces of a vector space $\F_q^k$. We describe a practical algorithm which computes a canonical form and the stabilizer of $\C$ under the group action of the general semilinear group. It allows us to solve canonical form problems in coding theory, i.e. we are able to compute canonical forms of linear codes, $\F_{q}$-linear block codes over the alphabet $\F_{q^s}$ and random network codes under their natural notion of equivalence. The algorithm that we are going to develop is based on the partition refinement method and generalizes a previous work by the author on the computation of canonical forms of linear codes.
Classifying terminal weighted projective space
We present a classification of all weighted projective spaces with at worst terminal or canonical singularities in dimension four. As a corollary we also classify all four-dimensional one-point lattice simplices up to equivalence. Finally, we classify the terminal Gorenstein weighted projective spaces up to dimension ten.

Let $V$ and $V'$ be vector spaces over division rings (possible infinite-dimensional) and let ${\mathcal P}(V)$ and ${\mathcal P}(V')$ be the associated projective spaces. We say that $f:{\mathcal P}(V)\to {\mathcal P}(V')$ is a PGL-{\it mapping} if for every $h\in {\rm PGL}(V)$ there exists $h'\in {\rm PGL}(V')$ such that $fh=h'f$. We show that for every PGL-bijection the inverse mapping is a semicollineation. Also, we obtain an analogue of this result for the projective spaces associated to normed spaces.

The aim of this paper is to present a construction of $t$-divisible designs for $t>3$, because such divisible designs seem to be missing in the literature. To this end, tools such as finite projective spaces and their algebraic varieties are employed. More precisely, in a first step an abstract construction, called $t$-lifting, is developed. It starts from a set $X$ containing a $t$-divisible design and a group $G$ acting on $X$. Then several explicit examples are given, where $X$ is a subset of $PG(n,q)$ and $G$ is a subgroup of $GL_{n+1}(q)$. In some cases $X$ is obtained from a cone with a Veronesean or an $h$-sphere as its basis. In other examples $X$ arises from a projective embedding of a Witt design. As a result, for any integer $t\geq 2$ infinitely many non-isomorphic $t$-divisible designs are found.

In this paper a generalisation of the notion of polarity is exhibited which allows to completely describe, in an incidence-geometric way, the linear complexes of $h$-subspaces. A generalised polarity is defined to be a partial map which maps $(h-1)$-subspaces to hyperplanes, satisfying suitable linearity and reciprocity properties. Generalised polarities with the null property give rise to a linear complexes and vice versa. Given that there exists for $h>1$ a linear complex of $h$-subspaces which contains no star --this seems to be an open problem over an arbitrary ground field --the combinatorial structure of a partition of the line set of the projective space into non-geometric spreads of its hyperplanes can be obtained. This line partition has an additional linearity property which turns out to be characteristic.

We consider a class of graphs subject to certain restrictions, including the finiteness of diameters. Any surjective mapping $φ:Γ\toΓ'$ between graphs from this class is shown to be an isomorphism provided that the following holds: Any two points of $Γ$ are at a distance equal to the diameter of $Γ$ if, and only if, their images are at a distance equal to the diameter of $Γ'$. This result is then applied to the graphs arising from the adjacency relations of spaces of rectangular matrices, spaces of Hermitian matrices, and Grassmann spaces (projective spaces of rectangular matrices).

In the nineties, A.G. Spera introduced a construction principle for divisible designs. Using this method, we get series of divisible designs from finite Laguerre geometries. We show a close connection between some of these divisible designs and divisible designs whose construction was based on a conic in a plane of a 3-dimensional projective space.

In this paper we consider the following question. What is the maximum number of pairwise disjoint $k$-spreads which exist in PG(n,q)? We prove that if k+1 divides n+1 and n>k then there exist at least two disjoint k-spreads in PG(n,q) and there exist at least $2^{k+1}-1$ pairwise disjoint $k$-spreads in PG(n,2). We also extend the known results on parallelism in a projective geometry from which the points of a given subspace were removed.

We study the regularity and the algebraic properties of certain lattice ideals. We establish a map I --> I\~ between the family of graded lattice ideals in an N-graded polynomial ring over a field K and the family of graded lattice ideals in a polynomial ring with the standard grading. This map is shown to preserve the complete intersection property and the regularity of I but not the degree. We relate the Hilbert series and the generators of I and I\~. If dim(I)=1, we relate the degrees of I and I\~. It is shown that the regularity of certain lattice ideals is additive in a certain sense. Then, we give some applications. For finite fields, we give a formula for the regularity of the vanishing ideal of a degenerate torus in terms of the Frobenius number of a semigroup. We construct vanishing ideals, over finite fields, with prescribed regularity and degree of a certain type. Let X be a subset of a projective space over a field K. It is shown that the vanishing ideal of X is a lattice ideal of dimension 1 if and only if X is a finite subgroup of a projective torus. For finite fields, it is shown that X is a subgroup of a projective torus if and only if X is parameterized by monomials. We express the regularity of the vanishing ideal over a bipartie graph in terms of the regularities of the vanishing ideals of the blocks of the graph.
Scattering Amplitudes and the Positive Grassmannian
We establish a direct connection between scattering amplitudes in planar four-dimensional theories and a remarkable mathematical structure known as the positive Grassmannian. The central physical idea is to focus on on-shell diagrams as objects of fundamental importance to scattering amplitudes. We show that the all-loop integrand in N=4 SYM is naturally represented in this way. On-shell diagrams in this theory are intimately tied to a variety of mathematical objects, ranging from a new graphical representation of permutations to a beautiful stratification of the Grassmannian G(k,n) which generalizes the notion of a simplex in projective space. All physically important operations involving on-shell diagrams map to canonical operations on permutations; in particular, BCFW deformations correspond to adjacent transpositions. Each cell of the positive Grassmannian is naturally endowed with positive coordinates and an invariant measure which determines the on-shell function associated with the diagram. This understanding allows us to classify and compute all on-shell diagrams, and give a geometric understanding for all the non-trivial relations among them. Yangian invariance of scattering amplitudes is transparently represented by diffeomorphisms of G(k,n) which preserve the positive structure. Scattering amplitudes in (1+1)-dimensional integrable systems and the ABJM theory in (2+1) dimensions can both be understood as special cases of these ideas. On-shell diagrams in theories with less (or no) supersymmetry are associated with exactly the same structures in the Grassmannian, but with a measure deformed by a factor encoding ultraviolet singularities. The Grassmannian representation of on-shell processes also gives a new understanding of the all-loop integrand for scattering amplitudes, presenting all integrands in a novel dLog form which directly reflects the underlying positive structure.

Let A be a collection of n linear hyperplanes in k^l, where k is an algebraically closed field. The Orlik-Terao algebra of A is the subalgebra R(A) of the rational functions generated by reciprocals of linear forms vanishing on hyperplanes of A. It determines an irreducible subvariety of projective space. We show that a flat X of A is modular if and only if R(A) is a split extension of the Orlik-Terao algebra of the subarrangement A_X. This provides another refinement of Stanley's modular factorization theorem and a new characterization of modularity, similar in spirit to the modular fibration theorem of Paris.
We deduce that if A is supersolvable, then its Orlik-Terao algebra is Koszul. In certain cases, the algebra is also a complete intersection, and we characterize when this happens.

In this paper we study a family of scattered $\F_q$--linear sets of rank $tn$ of the projective space $PG(2n-1,q^t)$ ($n \geq 1$, $t\geq 3$), called of {\it pseudoregulus type}, generalizing results contained in [G. Marino, O. Polverino, R. Trombetti: On ${\mathbb F}_q$--linear sets of $\PG(3,q^3)$ and semifields, {\em J. Combin. Theory Ser. A}, {\bf 114} (2007), 769--788] and in [M. Lavrauw, G. Van de Voorde: Scattered linear sets and pseudoreguli, preprint]. As an application, we characterize, in terms of the associated linear sets, some classical families of semifields: the Generalized Twisted Fields and the 2-dimensional Knuth semifields.
A Geometric Definition Of Schubert Polynomials and Dual Schubert Polynomials For Classical Lie Groups
In this paper, we first discuss the topological properties of projective Stiefel manifolds, we compute their cohomology rings and classify their cohomology endomorphisms; Then by embedding the flag manifold of a classical Lie group into its corresponding infinite dimensional projective Stiefel manifold(which is homotopic to the product of infinite dimensional complex projective space $\mathbb{C}P^{\infty}$), we define the Schubert polynomials and dual Schubert polynomials. Finally we discuss the property and the computation of these polynomials.

On the number of connected components in complements to arrangements of submanifolds
We consider arrangements of n connected codimensional one submanifolds in closed d-dimensional manifold M. Let f be the number of connected components of the complement in M to the union of submanifolds. We prove the sharp lower bound for f via n and homology group H_{d-1}(M). The sets of all possible f-values for given n are studied for hyperplane arrangements in real projective spaces and for subtori arrangements in d-dimensional tori.

Let $m,n>1$ be integers and $\mathbb{P}_{n,m}$ be the point set of the projective $(n-1)$-space (defined by [2]) over the ring $\mathbb{Z}_m$of integers modulo $m$. Let $A_{n,m}=(a_{uv})$ be the matrix with rows and columns being labeled by elements of $\mathbb{P}_{n,m}$, where $a_{uv}=1$ if the inner product $< u,v >=0$ and $a_{uv}=0$ otherwise. Let $B_{n,m}=A_{n,m}A_{n,m}^t$. The eigenvalues of $B_{n,m}$ have been studied by [1, 2, 3], where their applications in the study of expanders and locally decodable codes were described. In this paper, we completely determine the eigenvalues of $B_{n,m}$ for general integers $m$ and $n$.
