Gelfand--Tsetlin-type weight bases for all special linear Lie algebra representations corresponding to skew Schur functions
Published • View Publication • BIB
We generalize the famous weight basis constructions of the finite-dimensional irreducible representations of $\mathfrak{sl}(n,\mathbb{C})$ obtained by Gelfand and Tsetlin in 1950. Using combinatorial methods, we construct one such basis for each finite-dimensional representation of $\mathfrak{sl}(n,\mathbb{C})$ associated to a given skew Schur function. Our constructions use diamond-colored distributive lattices of skew-shaped semistandard tableaux that generalize some classical Gelfand--Tsetlin (GT) lattices. Our constructions take place within the context of a certain programmatic study of poset models for semisimple Lie algebra representations and Weyl group symmetric functions undertaken by the first-named author and others. Some key aspects of the methodology of that program are recapitulated here. Combinatorial and representation-theoretic applications of our constructions are pursued here and elsewhere.
Symmetric Fibonaccian distributive lattices and representations of the special linear Lie algebras
Published in Involve 16 (2023) 201-226 • View Publication • BIB
We present a family of rank symmetric diamond-colored distributive lattices that are naturally related to the Fibonacci sequence and certain of its generalizations. These lattices re-interpret and unify descriptions of some un- or differently-colored lattices found variously in the literature. We demonstrate that our symmetric Fibonaccian lattices naturally realize certain (often reducible) representations of the special linear Lie algebras, with weight basis vectors realized as lattice elements and Lie algebra generators acting along the covering digraph edges of each lattice. We present evidence that each such weight basis possesses certain distinctive extremal properties. We provide new descriptions of the lattice cardinalities and rank generating functions and offer several conjectures/open problems. Throughout, we make connections with integer sequences from the OEIS.
Sign-alternating Gibonacci polynomials
Published • View Publication • BIB
We consider various properties and manifestations of some sign-alternating univariate polynomials borne of right-triangular integer arrays related to certain generalizations of the Fibonacci sequence. Using a theory of the root geometry of polynomial sequences developed by J. L. Gross, T. Mansour, T. W. Tucker, and D. G. L. Wang, we show that the roots of these `sign-alternating Gibonacci polynomials' are real and distinct, and we obtain explicit bounds on these roots. We also derive Binet-type closed expressions for the polynomials. Some of these results are applied to resolve finiteness questions pertaining to a one-player combinatorial game (or puzzle) modelled after a well-known puzzle we call the `Networked-numbers Game.' Elsewhere, the first- and second-named authors, in collaboration with A. Nance, have found rank symmetric `diamond-colored' distributive lattices naturally related to certain representations of the special linear Lie algebras. Those lattice cardinalities can be computed using sign-alternating Fibonacci polynomials, and the lattice rank generating functions correspond to the rows of some new and easily defined triangular integer arrays. Here, we present Gibonaccian, and in particular Lucasian, versions of those symmetric Fibonaccian lattices/results, but without the algebraic context of the latter.

The holonomy Lie algebra of a matroid
We will start from the beginning and define a matroid and its Orlik-Solomon algebra and holonomy Lie algebra, but first we give some background from topology and cohomology. A (central) hyperplane arrangement is a finite number of subspaces of codimension one in a finite dimensional vector space over R, C or even finite fields. The space X which is the complement of the union of the hyperplanes has interesting properties. If you consider R^n the cohomology is however rather trivial, there is just an H^0, since X is a disjoint union of contractible sets. But it is not a trivial task to compute |H^0|. The way to do it is to consider the intersection lattice of the hyperplanes and compute its Möbius function. The result is that the number of components is the sum of the absolut values of the Möbius function (Zaslavsky 1975).

Gaudin Algebras, RSK and Calogero-Moser Cells in Type A
Published • View Publication • BIB
We study the spectrum of a family of algebras, the inhomogeneous Gaudin algebras, acting on the $n$-fold tensor representation $\mathbb{C}[x_1, \ldots, x_r]^{\otimes n}$ of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{gl}_r$. We use the work of Halacheva-Kamnitzer-Rybnikov-Weekes to demonstrate that the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence describes the behaviour of the spectrum as we move along special paths in the family. We apply the work of Mukhin-Tarasov-Varchenko, which proves that the rational Calogero-Moser phase space can be realised as a part of this spectrum, to relate this to behaviour at $t=0$ of rational Cherednik algebras of $\mathfrak{S}_n$. As a result, we confirm for symmetric groups a conjecture of Bonnafé-Rouquier which proposes an equality between the Calogero-Moser cells they defined and the well-known Kazhdan-Lusztig cells.

Moving between weights of weight modules
In Lie theory the partial sum property (PSP) says that for a root system in any Kac-Moody algebra, every positive root is an ordered sum of simple roots whose partial sums are all roots. In this paper, we present two generalizations: 1) "Parabolic generalization": if $I$ is a subset of simple roots, every root with positive $I$-height is an ordered sum of roots of $I$-height 1, whose partial sums are all roots. In fact we show this on the Lie algebra level, by showing that every root space is spanned by the Lie words formed from root vectors of $I$-height 1. As an application, we provide a "minimal" description for the set of weights of every (non-integrable) simple highest weight module over any Kac-Moody algebra. This seems to be novel even in finite type. 2) Generalization to weights of weight modules: the PSP gives a chain of roots between 0 (fixed) and any positive root. We generalize this to the weights of weight modules to get a chain of weights between any two comparable weights. This was shown by S. Kumar for any finite-dimensional simple module over a semisimple Lie algebra. In this paper, we extend this result to (i) a large class of highest weight modules over any Kac-Moody algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, which includes all simple highest weight modules over $\mathfrak{g}$; (ii) more generally, for non-highest weight modules such as $\mathfrak{g}$ itself (adjoint representation) and arbitrary submodules of parabolic Verma modules over $\mathfrak{g}$; (iii) arbitrary integrable modules over semisimple $\mathfrak{g}$. Additionally, we also prove the "parabolic" generalizations of this second generalization to the best possible extent. We also find all the highest weight modules which have their sets of weights same as those of parabolic Verma modules and provide a Minkowski difference formula for weights of arbitrary highest weight modules over Kac-Moody $\mathfrak{g}$.

A Lie bracket for the momentum kernel
Published • View Publication • BIB
We develop new mathematical tools for the study of the double copy and colour-kinematics duality for tree-level scattering amplitudes using the properties of Lie polynomials. We show that the $S$-map that was defined to simplify super-Yang--Mills multiparticle superfields is in fact a new Lie bracket on the dual space of Lie polynomials. We introduce {\it Lie polynomial currents} based on Berends-Giele recursion for biadjoint scalar tree amplitudes that take values in Lie polynomials. Field theory amplitudes are obtained from the Lie polynomial amplitudes by numerators characterized as homomorphisms from the free Lie algebra to kinematic data. Examples are presented for the biadjoint scalar, Yang--Mills theory and the nonlinear sigma model. That these theories satisfy the Bern-Carrasco-Johansson amplitude relations follows from the identities we prove for the Lie polynomial amplitudes and the existence of BCJ numerators. A KLT map from Lie polynomials to their dual is obtained by nesting the S-map Lie bracket; the matrix elements of this map yield a recently proposed `generalized KLT matrix', and this reduces to the usual KLT matrix when its entries are restricted to a basis. Using this, we give an algebraic proof for the cancellation of double poles in the KLT formula for gravity amplitudes. We finish with some remarks on numerators and colour-kinematics duality from this perspective.

The combinatorics of normal subgroups in the unipotent upper triangular group
Published • View Publication • BIB
Describing the conjugacy classes of the unipotent upper triangular groups $\mathrm{UT}_{n}(\mathbb{F}_{q})$ uniformly (for all or many values of $n$ and $q$) is a nearly impossible task. This paper takes on the related problem of describing the normal subgroups of $\mathrm{UT}_{n}(\mathbb{F}_{q})$. For $q$ a prime, a bijection will be established between these subgroups and pairs of combinatorial objects with labels from $\mathbb{F}_{q}^{\times}$. Each pair comprises a loopless binary matroid and a tight splice, an apparently new kind of combinatorial object which interpolates between nonnesting partitions and shortened polyominoes. For arbitrary $q$, the same approach describes a natural subset of normal subgroups: those which correspond to the ideals of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{ut}_{n}(\mathbb{F}_{q})$ under an approximation of the exponential map.

A diagrammatic approach to string polytopes
Published • View Publication • BIB
We prove that for every complex classical group $G$ the string polytope associated to a special reduced decomposition and any dominant integral weight $λ$ will be a lattice polytope if and only if the highest weight representation of the Lie algebra of $G$ with highest weight $λ$ integrates to a representation of $G$ itself. This affirms an earlier conjecture and shows that every partial flag variety of a complex classical group admits a flat projective degeneration to a Gorenstein Fano toric variety.

Lie elements and the matrix-tree theorem
Published • View Publication • BIB
For a finite-dimensional representation V of a group G we introduce and study the notion of a Lie element in the group algebra k[G]. The set L(V) \subset k[G] of Lie elements is a Lie algebra and a G-module acting on the original representation V. Lie elements often exhibit nice combinatorial properties. Thus, for G = S_n and V, a permutation representation, we prove a formula for the characteristic polynomial of a Lie element similar to the classical matrix-tree theorem.

Semi-invariants of Binary Forms Pertaining to a Unimodality Theorem of Reiner and Stanton
Published • View Publication • BIB
The symmetric difference of the $q$-binomial coefficients $F_{n,k}(q)={n+k\brack k}-q^{n}{n+k-2\brack k-2}$ was introduced by Reiner and Stanton. They proved that $F_{n,k}(q)$ is symmetric and unimodal for $k \geq 2$ and $n$ even by using the representation theory for Lie algebras. Based on Sylvester's proof of the unimodality of the Gaussian coefficients, as conjectured by Cayley, we find an interpretation of the unimodality of $F_{n,k}(q)$ in terms of semi-invariants. In the spirit of the strict unimodality of the Gaussian coefficients due to Pak and Panova, we prove the strict unimodality of the symmetric difference $G_{n,k,r}(q)={n+k\brack k}-q^{nr/2}{n+k-r\brack k-r}$, except for the two terms at both ends, where $n,r\geq8$, $k\geq r$ and at least one of $n$ and $r$ is even.

Relative (pre-)anti-flexible algebras and associated algebraic structures
Published • View Publication • BIB
Pre-anti-flexible family algebras are introduced and linked with the notions of relative anti-flexible algebras, left and right pre-Lie family algebras and relative Lie algebras which are for mostly newly defined. Relative pre-anti-flexible algebras are given and their underlying algebras structures such as pre-anti-flexible family algebras, left and right pre-Lie family algebras, and other are investigated and significant identities linking those introduced structures are derived. In addition, a generalization of the Rota-Baxter operators defined on a relative anti-flexible algebra is introduced and both Rota-Baxter operators and its generalization are used to build relative pre-anti-flexible algebras structures underlying relative anti-flexible algebras and related consequences are derived.

A closed-formula solution to the color-trace decomposition problem
In these notes we present a closed-formula solution to the problem of decomposing traces of Lie algebra generators into symmetrized traces and structure constants. The solution is written in terms of Solomon idempotents and exploits a projection derived by Solomon in his work on the Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt theorem.

Hall Lie algebras of toric monoid schemes
Published • View Publication • BIB
We associate to a projective $n$-dimensional toric variety $X_Δ$ a pair of co-commutative (but generally non-commutative) Hopf algebras $H^α_X, H^{T}_X$. These arise as Hall algebras of certain categories $\Coh^α(X), \Coh^T(X)$ of coherent sheaves on $X_Δ$ viewed as a monoid scheme - i.e. a scheme obtained by gluing together spectra of commutative monoids rather than rings. When $X_Δ$ is smooth, the category $\Coh^T(X)$ has an explicit combinatorial description as sheaves whose restriction to each $\mathbb{A}^n$ corresponding to a maximal cone $σ\in Δ$ is determined by an $n$-dimensional generalized skew shape. The (non-additive) categories $\Coh^α(X), \Coh^T(X)$ are treated via the formalism of proto-exact/proto-abelian categories developed by Dyckerhoff-Kapranov. The Hall algebras $H^α_X, H^{T}_X$ are graded and connected, and so enveloping algebras $H^α_X \simeq U(\n^α_X)$, $H^{T}_X \simeq U(\n^{T}_X)$, where the Lie algebras $\n^α_X, \n^{T}_X$ are spanned by the indecomposable coherent sheaves in their respective categories. We explicitly work out several examples, and in some cases are able to relate $\n^T_X$ to known Lie algebras. In particular, when $X = \mathbb{P}^1$, $\n^T_X$ is isomorphic to a non-standard Borel in $\mathfrak{gl}_2 [t,t^{-1}]$. When $X$ is the second infinitesimal neighborhood of the origin inside $\mathbb{A}^2$, $\n^T_X$ is isomorphic to a subalgebra of $\mathfrak{gl}_2[t]$. We also consider the case $X=\mathbb{P}^2$, where we give a basis for $\n^T_X$ by describing all indecomposable sheaves in $\Coh^T(X)$.

Classifications of $Γ$-colored $d$-complete posets and upper $P$-minuscule Borel representations
Published in Electronic Journal of Combinatorics 28(1), #P1.15 (2021) • View Publication • BIB
The $Γ$-colored $d$-complete posets correspond to certain Borel representations that are analogous to minuscule representations of semisimple Lie algebras. We classify $Γ$-colored $d$-complete posets which specifies the structure of the associated representations. We show that finite $Γ$-colored $d$-complete posets are precisely the dominant minuscule heaps of J.R. Stembridge. These heaps are reformulations and extensions of the colored $d$-complete posets of R.A. Proctor. We also show that connected infinite $Γ$-colored $d$-complete posets are precisely order filters of the connected full heaps of R.M. Green.

Symplectic PBW Degenerate Flag Varieties; PBW Tableaux and Defining Equations
Published in Transformation Groups (2022) • View Publication • BIB
We define a set of PBW-semistandard tableaux that is in a weight preserving bijection with the set of monomials corresponding to integral points in the Feigin-Fourier-Littelmann-Vinberg polytope for highest weight modules of the symplectic Lie algebra. We then show that these tableaux parametrize bases of the homogeneous coordinate rings of the complete symplectic original and PBW degenerate flag varieties. From this construction, we provide explicit degenerate relations that generate the defining ideal of the PBW degenerate variety. These relations consist of type A degenerate Plücker relations and a set of degenerate linear relations that we obtain from De Concini's linear relations.

Growth of differential identities
Published • View Publication • BIB
In this paper we study the growth of the differential identities of some algebras with derivations, i.e., associative algebras where a Lie algebra $L$ (and its universal enveloping algebra $U(L)$) acts on them by derivations. In particular, we study in detail the differential identities and the cocharacter sequences of some algebras whose sequence of differential codimensions has polynomial growth. Moreover, we shall give a complete description of the differential identities of the algebra $UT_2$ of $2\times 2$ upper triangular matrices endowed with all possible action of a Lie algebra by derivations. Finally, we present the structure of the differential identities of the infinite dimensional Grassmann $G$ with respect to the action of a finite dimensional Lie algebra $L$ of inner derivations.

Q-data and representation theory of untwisted quantum affine algebras
Published • View Publication • BIB
For a complex finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, we introduce the notion of Q-datum, which generalizes the notion of a Dynkin quiver with a height function from the viewpoint of Weyl group combinatorics. Using this notion, we develop a unified theory describing the twisted Auslander-Reiten quivers and the twisted adapted classes introduced in [O.-Suh, J. Algebra, 2019] with an appropriate notion of the generalized Coxeter elements. As a consequence, we obtain a combinatorial formula expressing the inverse of the quantum Cartan matrix of $\mathfrak{g}$, which generalizes the result of [Hernandez-Leclerc, J. Reine Angew. Math., 2015] in the simply-laced case. We also find several applications of our combinatorial theory of Q-data to the finite-dimensional representation theory of the untwisted quantum affine algebra of $\mathfrak{g}$. In particular, in terms of Q-data and the inverse of the quantum Cartan matrix, (i) we give an alternative description of the block decomposition results due to [Chari-Moura, Int. Math. Res. Not., 2005] and [Kashiwara-Kim-O.-Park, arXiv:2003.03265], (ii) we present a unified (partially conjectural) formula of the denominators of the normalized R-matrices between all the Kirillov-Reshetikhin modules, and (iii) we compute the invariants $Λ(V,W)$ and $Λ^\infty(V, W)$ introduced in [Kashiwara-Kim-O.-Park, Compos. Math., 2020] for each pair of simple modules $V$ and $W$.

On the Homology of Nilpotent k-ary Lie Algebras
We introduce nilpotent k-ary Lie algebras including analogues of Heisenberg Lie algebras and free nilpotent Lie algebras. We study homology of k-ary nilpotent Lie algebras by using a modification of Chevalley-Eilenberg complex. For some classes of nilpotent k-ary Lie algebras and in particular Heisenberg k-ary Lie algebras we give explicit formulas for Betti numbers. Representation stability of free nilpotent k-ary Lie algebras is proven and lower bounds for Betti numbers are described by Schur modules. We also verify that toral rank conjecture holds for the classes we studied. Moreover, for 2-step nilpotent k-ary Lie algebras, we give a refinement of it.
