Torus Equivariant Cohomology for the $Δ$-Springer Fiber
We define a torus $U \subset T = (\mathbb{C}^\times)^K$ which acts on the $Δ$-Springer varieties $Y_{n,λ,s}$ defined by Griffin-Levinson-Woo and give a Borel-style presentation for the equivariant cohomology ring $H^*_U(Y_{n,λ,s})$. Our presentation arises from the orbit harmonics deformation technique, and uses methods of Chou-Matsumura-Rhoades and Abe-Horiguchi.
On colorful generalizations of the Goodman--Pollack transversal problem
We establish a colorful, and more generally matroidal, solution to the problem of Goodman and Pollack on the existence of an $\mathbb{F}$-affine $k$-dimensional transversal to a family of convex sets in $\mathbb{F}^d$, where $0 \le k \le d - 1$ is an integer and $\mathbb{F} \in \{\mathbb{R}, \mathbb{C}\}$ is a field. Our results unify several classical and recent theorems. In the case $k=0$, we recover the colorful Helly theorem of Bárány and Lovász, together with a matroidal extension due to Kalai and Meshulam. In the opposite extremal case $k=d-1$, we obtain Holmsen's colorful and matroidal generalization of the Goodman-Pollack-Wenger theorem. Additionally, we extend the recent noncolorful solution of the Goodman-Pollack problem by McGinnis and the author. Our methods are topological. We introduce matroidal joins, defined as homotopy colimits of diagrams indexed by face posets of matroidal complexes, and derive estimates on their connectivity. The proof also relies on adaptations of nonexistence results for equivariant maps from Stiefel manifolds to spheres.
Transfer Operators and Independence Polynomials for Strong Powers of Circulant Graphs
We study independent sets in strong powers of circulant graphs using a transfer matrix formulation. The compatibility constraints separate into intra-layer and inter-layer components, yielding a transfer operator that is equivariant under the dihedral group action. The characteristic polynomial of the transfer operator factors into an \emph{anomalous} component (arising from the trivial isotypic component, with rational coefficients) and a \emph{cyclotomic} component (arising from nontrivial Fourier modes, splitting over the maximal real cyclotomic subfield). We show that the spectral radius is attained in the trivial isotypic component, so the dominant exponential growth is governed by a low-dimensional orbit-compressed operator. The independence polynomial is computed exactly for strong cylinders and tori, with the cyclotomic sector contributing a sparse correction confined to high-weight coefficients. All results are verified for $C_7$.
A $\mathbb{Z}_2$-Topological Framework for Sign-rank Lower Bounds
We develop a topological framework for proving lower bounds on sign-rank via $\mathbb{Z}_2$-equivariant topology, and use it to resolve the sign-rank of the Gap Hamming Distance problem up to lower-order terms.
For every (partial) sign matrix $A$, we associate a free $\mathbb{Z}_2$-simplicial complex $S(A)$ and show that sign-rank of $A$ is characterized by the linear analog of $\mathbb{Z}_2$-index of $S(A)$. As a consequence, the classical $\mathbb{Z}_2$-index of $S(A)$ lower bounds the sign-rank of $A$, which reduces sign-rank lower bounds to topological obstructions. This reduction allows us to use various tools from $\mathbb{Z}_2$-equivariant topology, particularly in regimes where classical lower-bound techniques break down.
As the main application, we consider the Gap Hamming Distance function $\mathrm{GHD}_k^n$ (defined for $k < n/2$), which distinguishes pairs of strings in $\{0,1\}^n$ with Hamming distance at most $k$ from pairs with distance at least $n-k$. We prove an essentially tight lower bound and show that for any $k$, \[ \text{sign-rank}(\mathrm{GHD}_k^n) = (1-o_k(1)) 2k. \]
where the $o_k(1)$ term is $O\left(\sqrt{\frac{\log k}{k}}\right)$. This improves on the previous lower bound of Hatami, Hosseini, and Meng (STOC 2023) who proved that sign-rank of $\mathrm{GHD}_k^n$ is at least $Ω(k/\log(n/k))$.
A key technical ingredient is a new analysis of the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-coindex (which lower bounds $\mathbb{Z}_2$-index) of the Vietoris-Rips complex of the hypercube in the sparse regime which yields an essentially tight lower bound. Previously, no results were known in the sparse regime.
Maximal compatibility of disklike $G$-transfer systems
Transfer systems are a combinatorial model for $N_{\infty}$-operads, which encode commutative structures in equivariant homotopy theory. Blumberg--Hill and Chan gave criteria for when two transfer systems are a compatible pair, meaning they encode the additive transfers and multiplicative norms of a ring-type structure. In this paper, given a transfer system encoding an additive structure, we give explicit formulae for the maximal transfer system it is compatible with. Our formulae simplify for disklike transfer systems, which typically encode additive structures. Further, we prove that (maximal) compatibility is functorial with respect to the inflation map induced by a quotient of groups, letting us compute maximal compatible transfer systems as inflations of connected transfer systems.
Neutral-Fermion constructions of factorial $gp$-and $gq$-Functions
We develop neutral-fermionic constructions for the factorial $gp$- and $gq$-functions introduced by Nakagawa and Naruse, which are respectively dual to the factorial $GQ$- and $GP$-functions of Ikeda and Naruse. In particular, we realize the factorial $GP$-, $GQ$- and $gq$-functions as vacuum expectation values. As applications, we obtain, Jacobi--Trudi type determinantal formulas for the transition coefficients between functions with different equivariant parameters for $gq$ and its dual $GP$, as well as a Pfaffian formula for the factorial $gq$-functions. We further prove a remarkable coincidence among the transition coefficients for parameter changes for $gp$, $gq$, $GQ$, and $GP$. These coefficients admit a description in terms of factorial Grothendieck polynomials of type A.
Chromatic thresholds for linear equations and recurrence
Motivated by classical problems in extremal graph theory, we study a chromatic analogue of Roth-type questions for linear equations over $\mathbb F_p$. Given a homogeneous equation $\mathcal L:\sum_{i=1}^k c_i x_i=0$ with $k\ge 3$, we study $\mathcal L$-solution-free sets $A\subseteq \mathbb F_p$ through the chromatic number of the Cayley graph $\mathsf{Cay}(\mathbb F_p,A)$. We introduce the \emph{chromatic threshold} $δ_χ(\mathcal L)$, the minimum density that guarantees bounded chromatic number of $\mathsf{Cay}(\mathbb F_p,A)$ among all $\mathcal L$-solution-free sets $A$, and determine exactly when $δ_χ(\mathcal L)=0$. We prove that $δ_χ(\mathcal L)=0$ if and only if $\mathcal L$ contains a zero-sum subcollection of at least three coefficients.
A key ingredient is a quantitative chromatic lower bound for Cayley graphs on $\mathbb Z_p^n$ generated by Hamming balls around the all-ones vector. This is obtained by introducing a new Kneser-type graph that admits a natural embedding into $\mathbb Z_p^n$, together with an equivariant Borsuk--Ulam type argument. As a consequence, we resolve a question of Griesmer. We further relate our classification to the hierarchy of measurable, topological, and Bohr recurrence. In particular, we show that every infinite discrete abelian group admits a set that is topological recurrent but not measurable recurrent, extending the seminal examples of Kříž and Ruzsa.
Seidel product formula in equivariant quantum $K$-theory of flag varieties
We prove a Seidel product formula for the torus-equivariant quantum $K$-theory of a generalized flag variety $G/P.$ This is a natural generalization of the corresponding results by Buch, Chaput, and Perrin for the cominuscule flag varieties. Our proof is based on the $K$-theoretic Peterson isomorphism, due to Kato. We also use a version of the $K$-theoretic nil-Hecke algebra associated with the extended affine Weyl group, which was studied by Ikeda, Shimozono, and Yamaguchi.

Previous work has conjectured that the graded $\mathfrak{S}_n$-representations $H^\bullet(\operatorname{Conf}(n,\mathbb{R}^d);\mathbb{Q})$ are strongly equivariantly log concave, and has proven this conjecture in low degrees. By leveraging the theory of representation stability, we are able instead prove a stronger statement about the $\operatorname{FI^\sharp}$-module structure on $H^i(\operatorname{Conf}(n,\mathbb{R}^d);\mathbb{Q})$ which implies the original conjecture up to degree 19. We conjecture that this equivariant log concavity-like property holds in all degrees for the $\operatorname{FI^\sharp}$-modules $H^i(\operatorname{Conf}(n,\mathbb{R}^d);\mathbb{Q})$.
Pólya enumeration, wreath product symmetric functions, and moduli spaces of curves
We develop a calculus for $S_n$-equivariant Euler characteristics of moduli spaces of stable curves and stable maps. Our approach involves an enrichment of Pólya's cycle index polynomial of a graph to a certain algebra $Λ^{[2]}$ of wreath product symmetric functions. Building on foundational work of Macdonald, we prove that $Λ^{[2]}$ may be viewed as the Grothendieck ring of the category of polynomial functors which map symmetric sequences of vector spaces to vector spaces. This interpretation gives rise to an action of $Λ^{[2]}$ on the ordinary ring of symmetric functions $Λ$, which is described concretely in terms of Adams operations and skewing by power sums. This action lets us deduce appealing formulas, involving only ordinary symmetric functions, for generating functions of $S_n$-equivariant Euler characteristics.
Six-dimensional GKM manifolds with four fixed points
In this paper, we study $6$-dimensional GKM manifolds with $4$ fixed points. We classify all possible GKM graphs, and for each type of graph we construct a manifold, proving the existence. We show that six types occur.
(P1) complex projective space $\mathbb{C} P^3$ with standard complex structure
(P2) blow up of $S^6$ at a fixed point, diffeomorphic to $\mathbb{C} P^3$
(P3) $\mathbb{C} P^3$ as the homogeneous space $\mathrm{Sp}(2)/(\mathrm{U}(1) \times \mathrm{Sp}(1))$ with non-standard almost complex structure
(Q1) complex quadric $Q_3$ with standard complex structure
(Q2) blow up of $S^6$ along isotropy $2$-sphere, diffeomorphic to $Q_3$
(S) $S^2 \times S^4$, obtained as equivariant gluing along orbits of two $S^6$'s

The thagomizer matroid, realized as the graphic matroid of the complete tripartite graph $K_{1,1,n}$, has full automorphism group isomorphic to the hyperoctahedral group whenever $n \ge 2$. In the equivariant setting for this action, we compute both the Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomial and the inverse Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomial in the sense of Proudfoot's Kazhdan--Lusztig--Stanley theory, and we show that each coefficient is an honest representation with a multiplicity-free irreducible decomposition. Our main idea is to exploit the palindromicity of the equivariant $Z$-polynomial, reducing the computation to the already established symmetric-group equivariant Kazhdan--Lusztig theory for the graphic matroids of cycle graphs, and then to apply Proudfoot's equivariant Kazhdan--Lusztig--Stanley inversion identity to obtain the inverse polynomial. Passing to dimensions recovers the previously known nonequivariant thagomizer polynomials, while the coefficient formulas admit a natural expression in terms of the wreath product Frobenius characteristic for the hyperoctahedral group.
GKM Theory for Manifolds of Isospectral Matrices in Lie Type D
We study the manifold $Q_{Γ, λ}$ of isospectral real skew-symmetric matrices with a prescribed sparsity pattern determined by a graph $Γ$. The compact torus $T^n$ acts naturally on $Q_{Γ,λ}$ by conjugation, and this action can be studied using GKM theory. We prove two results about this manifold and its GKM graph. The first theorem describes how the GKM graph of $Q_{Γ, λ}$ is obtained from the GKM graph of the corresponding manifold $M_{Γ, λ}$ of isospectral Hermitian matrices. The second theorem gives a criterion for equivariant formality of $Q_{Γ, λ}$.
Euler characteristics of the universal Picard stack
We study $\mathbb{S}_n$-equivariant topological and weight-graded compactly-supported Euler characteristics of the universal Picard stack $\mathrm{Pic}_{g, n}^d \to \mathcal{M}_{g, n}$ of degree-$d$ line bundles over $\mathcal{M}_{g, n}$. We prove that in the weight-zero and topological cases, the generating function for Euler characteristics of $\mathrm{Pic}_{g, n}^d$ is obtained from the corresponding one for $\mathcal{M}_{g, n}$ by an extremely simple combinatorial transformation. This lets us deduce closed formulas for the two generating functions, taking as input the Chan--Faber--Galatius--Payne formula in the weight-zero case and Gorsky's formula in the topological case. As a corollary, we also obtain a closed formula for the topological Euler characteristic of $\mathrm{Pic}^d_g$. Our weight-zero calculation is a corollary of a general result passing from the weight-graded Euler characteristics of $\mathcal{M}_{g, n}$ to those of $\mathrm{Pic}_{g,n}^d$.
Basis Criteria for Extending Generalized Splines
Let $R$ be a commutative ring with identity and $G$ a graph. Extending generalized splines are a further extension of generalized splines by allowing vertex labels of $G$ to lie in varying modules rather than in a fixed ring $R$. Geometrically, this corresponds to the construction of equivariant cohomology by Braden and MacPherson (see [5]). Therefore, characterizing such splines has immediate implications in geometry, particularly in the computation of equivariant cohomology.
In this paper, we study extending generalized splines as a $R$- module in which each vertex $v$ is labeled by $M_v = m_v R$ and each edge $e$ is labeled by $M_e = R/r_e R$ together with quotient $R$-module homomorphisms $M_v\to M_e$ for each vertex $v$ incident to the edge $e$, where $R$ is a greatest common divisor domain (GCD). We characterize module bases of such splines in terms of determinants so that it provides a criterion for freeness of spline modules.
Equivariant inverse $Z$-polynomials of matroids
Motivated by the notion of the inverse $Z$-polynomial introduced by Ferroni, Matherne, Stevens, and Vecchi, we study the equivariant inverse $Z$-polynomial of a matroid equipped with a finite group. We prove that the coefficients of the equivariant inverse $Z$-polynomials are honest representations and that these polynomials are palindromic. Explicit formulas are obtained for uniform matroids equipped with the symmetric group. The corresponding formulas for $q$-niform matroids are derived using the Comparison Theorem for unipotent representations. For arbitrary equivariant paving matroids, explicit expressions are obtained by relating the polynomials of a matroid to those of its relaxation. We show that these polynomials are equivariantly unimodal and strongly inductively log-concave for both uniform and $q$-niform matroids. Motivated by the properties of equivariant $Z$-polynomials, we conjecture that the coefficients of the equivariant inverse $Z$-polynomials are equivariantly unimodal and strongly equivariantly log-concave.
Optimal factor matchings for point processes on non-amenable unimodular graphs
Consider a unit-intensity point process $Π$ on the vertex set $V$ of a transitive non-amenable unimodular graph. We study invariant matchings between $Π$ and $V$ having small typical matching distances. When $Π$ is either a Poisson process or i.i.d. perturbations of the vertex set, we determine the optimal matching distance and show that it can be attained by a factor matching scheme (that is, a deterministic and equivariant function of $Π$).
Virtual Hodge numbers of $\mathcal{M}_{g, n}(\mathbb{P}^r, d)$: stability and calculations
We study $\mathbb{S}_n$-equivariant motivic invariants of the moduli space $\mathcal{M}_{g, n}(\mathbb{P}^r, d)$ of degree-$d$ maps from $n$-pointed curves of genus $g$ to $\mathbb{P}^r$. In particular, we obtain formulas for the Serre characteristic, which specializes to the Hodge--Deligne polynomial. Fixing $g, r \geq 1$, we prove that an explicit invertible transform of the generating function for the Serre characteristics is rational. We use our formula to prove a stability result for the weight-graded compactly-supported Euler characteristics of $\mathcal{M}_{g, n}(\mathbb{P}^r, d)$ as $d \to \infty$. In genus one and two, we reduce the calculation of the Serre characteristic of $\mathcal{M}_{g, n}(\mathbb{P}^r, d)$ to those of the moduli spaces $\mathcal{M}_{g, n}$ of $n$-pointed curves. Formulas for the latter follow from work of Getzler and Petersen, so our formula in particular determines the Serre characteristic of $\mathcal{M}_{g, n}(\mathbb{P}^r, d)$ for arbitrary $n$, $r$, and $d$ when $g = 1$ and $g = 2$.
Classical double Grothendieck transitions
Kirillov and Naruse have constructed double Grothendieck polynomials to represent the equivariant K-theory classes of Schubert varieties in the complete flag manifolds of types B, C, and D. We derive a recursive formula for these polynomials, extending certain K-theoretic transition equations known in type A to all classical types. As an application, we obtain an identity that expands the K-Stanley symmetric functions in types B, C, and D into positive linear combinations of K-theoretic Schur P- and Q-functions. We also resolve several positivity conjectures related to the skew generalizations of the latter functions.
A positive combinatorial formula for the double Edelman--Greene coefficients
Lam, Lee, and Shimozono introduced the double Stanley symmetric functions in their study of the equivariant geometry of the affine Grassmannian. They proved that the associated double Edelman--Greene coefficients, the double Schur expansion coefficients of these functions, are positive, a result later refined by Anderson. They further asked for a combinatorial proof of this positivity. In this paper, we provide the first such proof, together with a combinatorial formula that manifests the finer positivity established by Anderson. Our formula is built from two combinatorial models: bumpless pipedreams and increasing chains in the Bruhat order. The proof relies on three key ingredients: a correspondence between these two models, a natural subdivision of bumpless pipedreams, and a symmetry property of increasing chains.
