Extremal results on $G$-free colorings of graphs
Let $H=(V(H),E(H))$ be a graph. A $k$-coloring of $H$ is a mapping $π: V(H) \longrightarrow \{1,2,\ldots, k\}$ so that each color class induces a $K_2$-free subgraph. For a graph $G$ of order at least $2$, a $G$-free $k$-coloring of $H$ is a mapping $π: V(H) \longrightarrow \{1,2,\ldots,k\}$ so that the subgraph of $H$ induced by each color class of $π$ is $G$-free, i.e. contains no copy of $G$. The $G$-free chromatic number of $H$ is the minimum number $k$ so that there is a $G$-free $k$-coloring of $H$, denoted by $χ_G(H)$. A graph $H$ is uniquely $k$-$G$-free colouring if $χ_G(H)=k$ and every $k$-$G$-free colouring of $H$ produces the same color classes. A graph $H$ is minimal with respect to $G$-free, or $G$-free-minimal, if for every edges of $E(H)$ we have $χ_G(H\setminus\{e\})= χ_G(H)-1$. In this paper we give some bounds and attribute about uniquely $k$-$G$-free colouring and $k$-$G$-free-minimal.

Cross $t$-intersecting families for finite affine spaces
Denote the collection of all $k$-flats in $AG(n,\mathbb{F}_q)$ by $\mathscr{M}(k,n)$. Let $\mathscr{F}_1\subset\mathscr{M}(k_1,n)$ and $\mathscr{F}_2\subset\mathscr{M}(k_2,n)$ satisfy $\dim(F_1\cap F_2)\ge t$ for any $F_1\in\mathscr{F}_1$ and $F_2\in\mathscr{F}_2$. We say they are cross $t$-intersecting families. Moreover, we say they are trivial if each member of them contains a fixed $t$-flats in $AG(n,\mathbb{F}_q)$. In this paper, we show that cross $t$-intersecting families with maximum product of sizes are trivial. We also describe the structure of non-trivial $t$-intersecting families with maximum product of sizes.

A characterization of Kazhdan-Lusztig right cells containing smooth elements
Published • View Publication • BIB
Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}(n,\mathbb{C})$. Its Weyl group is the symmetric group $S_n$. In this paper, we want to describe some Kazhdan-Lusztig right cells containing smooth elements which parameterize the smooth Schubert varieties. These elements are closely related to the study of associated varieties of highest weight modules of $\mathfrak{sl}(n,\mathbb{C})$. Firstly, we give a complete classification of the KL right cells containing only smooth elements. Then we give a sufficient condition for a KL right cell to contain only non-smooth elements by using invariant subsequences and a sufficient condition for a KL right cell to contain some smooth elements. Finally, we give an efficient algorithm to find out all the smooth elements in a given KL right cell.

3-critical subgraphs of snarks
Published • View Publication • BIB
In this paper we further our understanding of the structure of class two cubic graphs, or snarks, as they are commonly known. We do this by investigating their 3-critical subgraphs, or as we will call them, minimal conflicting subgraphs. We consider how the minimal conflicting subgraphs of a snark relate to its possible minimal 4-edge-colourings. We fully characterise the relationship between the resistance of a snark and the set of minimal conflicting subgraphs. That is, we show that the resistance of a snark is equal to the minimum number of edges which can be selected from the snark, such that the selection contains at least one edge from each minimal conflicting subgraph. We similarly characterise the relationship between what we call \textit{the critical subgraph} of a snark and the set of minimal conflicting subgraphs. The critical subgraph being the set of all edges which are conflicting in some minimal colouring of the snark. Further to this, we define groups, or \textit{clusters}, of minimal conflicting subgraphs. We then highlight some interesting properties and problems relating to clusters of minimal conflicting subgraphs.

On off-diagonal ordered Ramsey numbers of nested matchings
Published • View Publication • BIB
For two graphs $G^<$ and $H^<$ with linearly ordered vertex sets, the ordered Ramsey number $r_<(G^<,H^<)$ is the minimum $N$ such that every red-blue coloring of the edges of the ordered complete graph on $N$ vertices contains a red copy of $G^<$ or a blue copy of $H^<$. For a positive integer $n$, a nested matching $NM^<_n$ is the ordered graph on $2n$ vertices with edges $\{i,2n-i+1\}$ for every $i=1,\dots,n$. We improve bounds on the ordered Ramsey numbers $r_<(NM^<_n,K^<_3)$ obtained by Rohatgi, we disprove his conjecture by showing $4n+1 \leq r_<(NM^<_n,K^<_3) \leq (3+\sqrt{5})n$ for every $n \geq 6$, and we determine the numbers $r_<(NM^<_n,K^<_3)$ exactly for $n=4,5$. As a corollary, this gives stronger lower bounds on the maximum chromatic number of $k$-queue graphs for every $k \geq 3$. We also prove $r_<(NM^<_m,K^<_n)=Θ(mn)$ for arbitrary $m$ and $n$. We expand the classical notion of Ramsey goodness to the ordered case and we attempt to characterize all connected ordered graphs that are $n$-good for every $n\in\mathbb{N}$. In particular, we discover a new class of ordered trees that are $n$-good for every $n \in \mathbb{N}$, extending all the previously known examples.

How to build a pillar: a proof of Thomassen's conjecture
Carsten Thomassen in 1989 conjectured that if a graph has minimum degree more than the number of atoms in the universe ($δ(G)\ge 10^{10^{10}}$), then it contains a pillar, which is a graph that consists of two vertex-disjoint cycles of the same length, $s$ say, along with $s$ vertex-disjoint paths of the same length which connect matching vertices in order around the cycles. Despite the simplicity of the structure of pillars and various developments of powerful embedding methods for paths and cycles in the past three decades, this innocent looking conjecture has seen no progress to date. In this paper, we give a proof of this conjecture by building a pillar (algorithmically) in sublinear expanders.

Skip Letters for Short Supersequence of All Permutations
Published • View Publication • BIB
A supersequence over a finite set is a sequence that contains as subsequence all permutations of the set. This paper defines an infinite array of methods to create supersequences of decreasing lengths. This yields the shortest known supersequences over larger sets. It also provides the best results asymptotically. It is based on a general proof using a new property called strong completeness. The same technique also can be used to prove existing supersequences which combines the old and new ones into an unified conceptual framework.

Shi arrangements and low elements in affine Coxeter groups
Published in Canadian Journal Mathematics p.1-31 (2024) • View Publication • BIB
Given an affine Coxeter group $W$, the corresponding Shi arrangement is a refinement of the corresponding Coxeter hyperplane arrangements that was introduced by Shi to study Kazhdan-Lusztig cells for $W$. In particular, Shi showed that each region of the Shi arrangement contains exactly one element of minimal length in $W$. Low elements in $W$ were introduced to study the word problem of the corresponding Artin-Tits (braid) group and turns out to produce automata to study the combinatorics of reduced words in $W$. In this article, we show in the case of an affine Coxeter group that the set of minimal length elements of the regions in the Shi arrangement is precisely the set of low elements, settling a conjecture of Dyer and the second author in this case. As a byproduct of our proof, we show that the descent-walls -- the walls that separate a region from the fundamental alcove -- of any region in the Shi arrangement are precisely the descent walls of the alcove of its corresponding low element.

On generalized list $\G$-free colorings of graphs
For given graph $H$ and graphical property $P$, the conditional chromatic number $χ(H,P)$ of $H$, is the smallest number $k$, so that $V(H)$ can be decomposed into sets $V_1,V_2,\ldots, V_k$, in which $H[V_i]$ satisfies the property $P$, for each $1\leq i\leq k$. When property $P$ be that each color class contains no copy of $G$, we write $χ_{G}(H)$ instead of $χ(G,P)$, which is called the $G$-free chromatic number. Due to this, we say $H$ has a $k$-$G$-free coloring if there is a map $c : V(H) \longrightarrow \{1,\ldots,k\}$, so that each of the color classes of $c$ be $G$-free. Assume that for each vertex $v$ of a graph $H$ is assigned a set $L(V)$ of colors, called a color list. Set $g(L) = \{g(v): v\in V(H)\}$, that is the set of colors chosen for the vertices of $H$ under $g$. An $L$-coloring $g$ is called $G$-free, so that: \begin{itemize} \item $g(v)\in L(v)$, for any $v\in V(H)$. \item $ H[V_i]$ is $G$-free for each $i=1,2,\ldots, L$. \end{itemize} If there exists an $L$-coloring of $H$, then $H$ is called $L$-$G$-free-colorable. A graph $H$ is said to be $k$-$G$-free-choosable if there exists an $L$-coloring for any list-assignment $L$ satisfying $|L(V)|\geq k$ for each $v\in V(H)$, and $H[V_i]$ be $G$-free for each $i=1,2,\ldots, L$. Let graph $H$ and a collection of graphs $\G$ are given, the $χ_{\G}^L(H)$ of $H$ is the last integer $k$, so that $H$ is $k$-$\G$-free-choosable i.e. $H[V_i]$ is $\G$-free for each $i=1,2,\ldots, k$ i.e. contains no copy of any member of $\G$. In this article, we show that $χ_G^L(H)=χ_G(H)$ for some graph $H$ and $G$, $χ_G^L(H\oplus H')\leq χ_G^L(H)+χ_G^L(H')$ for each $G$, $H$, and $H'$. Also, we show that $χ_{\G}(H\oplus K_n)=χ^L_{\G}(H\oplus K_n)$, where $\G$ is a collection of all $d$-regular graphs, and some $n$.
On the anti-Ramsey threshold for non-balanced graphs
For graphs $G$ and $H$, we write $G \overset{\mathrm{rb}}{\longrightarrow} H $ if any proper edge-coloring of $G$ contains a rainbow copy of $H$, i.e., a copy where no color appears more than once. Kohayakawa, Konstadinidis and the last author proved that the threshold for $G(n,p) \overset{\mathrm{rb}}{\longrightarrow}H$ is at most $n^{-1/m_2(H)}$. Previous results have matched the lower bound for this anti-Ramsey threshold for cycles and complete graphs with at least 5 vertices. Kohayakawa, Konstadinidis and the last author also presented an infinite family of graphs $H$ for which the anti-Ramsey threshold is asymptotically smaller than $n^{-1/m_2(H)}$. In this paper, we devise a framework that provides a richer and more complex family of such graphs that includes all the previously known examples.

Orientably-Regular $p$-Maps and Regular $p$-Maps
Published • View Publication • BIB
A map is called a {\it $p$-map} if it has a prime $p$-power vertices. An orientably-regular (resp. A regular ) $p$-map is called {\it solvable} if the group $G^+$ of all orientation-preserving automorphisms (resp. the group $G$ of automorphisms) is solvable; and called {\it normal} if $G^+$ (resp. $G$) contains the normal Sylow $p$-subgroup. In this paper, it will be proved that both orientably-regular $p$-maps and regular $p$-maps are solvable and except for few cases that $p\in \{2, 3\}$, they are normal. Moreover, nonnormal $p$-maps will be characterized and some properties and constructions of normal $p$-maps will be given.

Nordhaus-Gaddum problem in term of $G$-free coloring
Published • View Publication • BIB
Let $H=(V(H),E(H))$ be a graph. A $k$-coloring of $H$ is a mapping $π: V(H) \longrightarrow \{1,2,\ldots, k\}$, if each color class induces a $K_2$-free subgraph. For a graph $G$ of order at least $2$, a $G$-free $k$-coloring of $H$, is a mapping $π: V(H) \longrightarrow \{1,2,\ldots,k\}$, so that the induced subgraph by each color class of $π$, contains no copy of $G$. The $G$-free chromatic number of $H$, is the minimum number $k$, so that it has a $G$-free $k$-coloring, and denoted by $χ_G(H)$. In this paper, we give some bounds and attributes on the $G$-free chromatic number of graphs, in terms of the number of vertices, maximum degree, minimum degree, and chromatic number. Our main results are the Nordhaus-Gaddum-type theorem for the $\G$-free chromatic number of a graph.

Some bounds on the size of Maximum $G$-free sets in graph
Published • View Publication • BIB
For given graph $H$, the independence number $α(H)$ of $H$, is the size of the maximum independent set of $V(H)$. Finding the maximum independent set in a graph is a NP-hard problem. Another version of the independence number is defined as the size of the maximum induced forest of $H$, and called the forest number of $H$, and denoted by $f(H)$. Finding $f(H)$ is also a NP-hard problem. Suppose that $H=(V(H),E(H))$ be a graph, and $\G$ be a family of graphs, a graph $H$ has a $\G$-free $k$-coloring if there exists a decomposition of $V(H)$ into sets $V_i$, $i-1,2,\ldots,k$, so that $G\nsubseteq H[V_i]$ for each $i$, and $G\in\G$. $S\subseteq V(H)$ is $G$-free, where the subgraph of $H$ induced by $S$, be $G$-free, i.e. it contains no copy of $G$. Finding a maximum subset of $H$, so that $H[S]$ be a $G$-free graph is a very hard problem as well. In this paper, we study the generalized version of the independence number of a graph. Also giving some bounds about the size of the maximum $G$-free subset of graphs is another purpose of this article.

Multipartite Ramsey number $m_j(K_m, nK_2)$
Assume that $K_{j\times n}$ be a complete, multipartite graph consisting of $j$ partite sets and $n$ vertices in each partite set. For given graphs $G_1, G_2,\ldots, G_n$, the multipartite Ramsey number (M-R-number) $m_j(G_1, G_2, \ldots,G_n)$ is the smallest integer $t$ such that for any $n$-edge-coloring $(G^1,G^2,\ldots, G^n)$ of the edges of $K_{j\times t}$, $G^i$ contains a monochromatic copy of $G_i$ for at least one $i$. The size of M-R-number $m_j(nK_2, C_m)$ for $j, n\geq 2$ and $4\leq m\leq 6$, the size of M-R-number $m_j(nK_2, C_7)$ for $j \geq 2$ and $n\geq 2$, the size of M-R-number $m_j(nK_2,K_3)$, for each $j,n\geq 2$, the size of M-R-number $m_j(K_3,K_3, n_1K_2,n_2K_,\ldots,n_iK_2)$ for $j \leq 6$ and $i,n_i\geq 1$ and the size of M-R-number $m_j(K_3,K_3, nK_2)$ for $j \geq 2$ and $n\geq 1$ have been computed in several papers up to now. In this article we obtain the values of M-R-number $m_j(K_m, nK_2)$, for each $j,n\geq 2$ and each $m\geq 4$.
Generalized Turán densities in the hypercube
Published • View Publication • BIB
A classical extremal, or Turán-type problem asks to determine ${\rm ex}(G, H)$, the largest number of edges in a subgraph of a graph $G$ which does not contain a subgraph isomorphic to $H$. Alon and Shikhelman introduced the so-called generalized extremal number ${\rm ex}(G,T,H)$, defined to be the maximum number of subgraphs isomorphic to $T$ in a subgraph of $G$ that contains no subgraphs isomorphic to $H$. In this paper we investigate the case when $G = Q_n$, the hypercube of dimension $n$, and $T$ and $H$ are smaller hypercubes or cycles.

Long induced paths in minor-closed graph classes and beyond
Published • View Publication • BIB
In this paper we show that every graph of pathwidth less than $k$ that has a path of order $n$ also has an induced path of order at least $\frac{1}{3} n^{1/k}$. This is an exponential improvement and a generalization of the polylogarithmic bounds obtained by Esperet, Lemoine and Maffray (2016) for interval graphs of bounded clique number. We complement this result with an upper-bound. This result is then used to prove the two following generalizations: - every graph of treewidth less than $k$ that has a path of order $n$ contains an induced path of order at least $\frac{1}{4} (\log n)^{1/k}$; - for every non-trivial graph class that is closed under topological minors there is a constant $d \in (0,1)$ such that every graph from this class that has a path of order $n$ contains an induced path of order at least $(\log n)^d$. We also describe consequences of these results beyond graph classes that are closed under topological minors.

The minimum number of clique-saturating edges
Published • View Publication • BIB
Let $G$ be a $K_p$-free graph. We say $e$ is a $K_p$-saturating edge of $G$ if $e\notin E(G)$ and $G+e$ contains a copy of $K_p$. Denote by $f_p(n, e)$ the minimum number of $K_p$-saturating edges that an $n$-vertex $K_p$-free graph with $e$ edges can have. Erdős and Tuza conjectured that $f_4(n,\lfloor n^2/4\rfloor+1)=\left(1 + o(1)\right)\frac{n^2}{16}.$ Balogh and Liu disproved this by showing $f_4(n,\lfloor n^2/4\rfloor+1)=(1+o(1))\frac{2n^2}{33}$. They believed that a natural generalization of their construction for $K_p$-free graph should also be optimal and made a conjecture that $f_{p+1}(n,ex(n,K_p)+1)=\left(\frac{2(p-2)^2}{p(4p^2-11p+8)}+o(1)\right)n^2$ for all integers $p\ge 3$. The main result of this paper is to confirm the above conjecture of Balogh and Liu.

Pure pairs. VIII. Excluding a sparse graph
Published • View Publication • BIB
A pure pair of size $t$ in a graph $G$ is a pair $A,B$ of disjoint sets of $t$ vertices such that $A$ is either complete or anticomplete to $B$. It is known that, for every forest $H$, every graph on $n\ge2$ vertices that does not contain $H$ or its complement as an induced subgraph has a pure pair of size $Ω(n)$; furthermore, this only holds when $H$ or its complement is a forest. In this paper, we look at pure pairs of size $n^{1-c}$, where $0<c<1$. Let $H$ be a graph: does every graph on $n\ge2$ vertices that does not contain $H$ or its complement as an induced subgraph have a pure pair $A,B$ with $|A|,|B|\ge Ω(|G|^{1-c})$,? The answer is related to the congestion of $H$, the maximum of $1-(|J|-1)/|E(J)|$ over all subgraphs $J$ of $H$ with an edge. (Congestion is nonnegative, and equals zero exactly when $H$ is a forest.) Let $d$ be the smaller of the congestions of $H$ and $\overline{H}$. We show that the answer to the question above is "yes" if $d\le c/(9+15c)$, and "no" if $d>c$.

A Survey on the k-Path Vertex Cover Problem
Published • View Publication • BIB
Given a graph $G=(V,E)$ and a positive integer $k\ge2$, a $k$-path vertex cover is a subset of vertices $F$ such that every path on $k$ vertices in $G$ contains at least one vertex from $F$. A minimum $k$-path vertex cover in $G$ is a $k$-path vertex cover with minimum cardinality and its cardinality is called the {\it $k$-path vertex cover number} of $G$. In the {\it $k$-path vertex cover problem}, it is required to find a minimum $k$-path vertex cover in a given graph. In this paper, we present a brief survey of the current state of the art in the study of the $k$-path vertex cover problem and the $k$-path vertex cover number.
