Let $H_n^{(3)}$ be a 3-uniform linear hypergraph, i.e. any two edges have at most one vertex common. A special hypergraph, {\em wicket}, is formed by three rows and two columns of a $3 \times 3$ point matrix. In this note, we give a new lower bound on the Turán number of wickets using estimates on cap sets. We also show that this problem is closely connected to important questions in additive combinatorics.
Generalized Turán results for matchings
Given graphs $H$ and $F$, the generalized Turán number $\mathrm{ex}(n,H,F)$ is the largest number of copies of $H$ in $n$-vertex $F$-free graphs. We study the case when either $H$ or $F$ is a matching. We obtain several asymptotic and exact results.

The planar Turán number of a graph $H$, denoted by $ex_{\mathcal{P}}(n,H)$, is the maximum number of edges in an $n$-vertex $H$-free planar graph. Recently, D. Ghosh, et al. initiated the topic of double stars and prove that $ex_{\mathcal{P}}(n,S_{2,5})\leq \frac{20}{7}n$. In this paper, we continue to study this and give a sharp upper bound $ex_{\mathcal{P}}(n,S_{2,5})\leq \frac{19}{7}n-\frac{18}{7}$ for all $n\geq 1$, with equality when $n=12$. This improves Ghosh's result.
Turán numbers for non-bipartite graphs and applications to spectral extremal problems
Given a graph family $\mathcal{H}$ with $\min_{H\in \mathcal{H}}χ(H)=r+1\geq 3$. Let ${\rm ex}(n,\mathcal{H})$ and ${\rm spex}(n,\mathcal{H})$ be the maximum number of edges and the maximum spectral radius of the adjacency matrix over all $\mathcal{H}$-free graphs of order $n$, respectively. Denote by ${\rm EX}(n,\mathcal{H})$ (resp. ${\rm SPEX}(n,\mathcal{H})$) the set of extremal graphs with respect to ${\rm ex}(n,\mathcal{H})$ (resp. ${\rm spex}(n,\mathcal{H})$).
In this paper, we use a decomposition family defined by Simonovits to give a characterization of which graph families $\mathcal{H}$ satisfy ${\rm ex}(n,\mathcal{H})<e(T_{n,r})+\lfloor \frac{n}{2r} \rfloor$. Furthermore, we completely determine ${\rm EX}\big(n,\mathbb{G}(F_1,\ldots,F_k)\big)$ for $n$ sufficiently large, where $\mathbb{G}(F_1,\ldots,F_k)$ denotes a finite graph family which consists of $k$ edge-disjoint $(r+1)$-chromatic color-critical graphs $F_1,\ldots,F_k$. This result strengthens a theorem of Győri, who settled the case that $F_1=\cdots =F_k = K_{r+1}$.
Wang, Kang and Xue %[J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 159 (2023) 20--41] proved that ${\rm SPEX}(n,H)\subseteq {\rm EX}(n,H)$ for $n$ sufficiently large and any graph $H$ with ${\rm ex}(n,H)=e(T_{n,r})+O(1)$. As an application of our first theorem, we show that ${\rm SPEX}(n,\mathcal{H})\subseteq {\rm EX}(n,\mathcal{H})$ for $n$ sufficiently large and any finite family $\mathcal{H}$ with ${\rm ex}(n,\mathcal{H})<e(T_{n,r})+\lfloor \frac{n}{2r}\rfloor$. As an application of our second theorem we completely determine ${\rm SPEX}\big(n,\mathbb{G}(F_1,\ldots,F_k)\big)$ for $n$ sufficiently large.
Finally, related problems are proposed for further research.
Extremal problems for star forests and cliques
Given a family of graphs $\mathcal{F}$, the Turán number $ex(n, \mathcal{F})$ denotes the maximum number of edges in any $\mathcal{F}$-free graph on $n$ vertices. Recently, Alon and Frankl studied of maximum number of edges in an $n$-vertex $\{K_{k+1}, M_{s+1}\}$-free graph, where $K_{k+1}$ is a complete graph on $k+1$ vertices and $M_{s+1}$ is a matching of $s+1$ edges. They determined the exact value of $ex(n, \{K_{k+1},M_{s+1}\})$. In this paper, we extend the matching $M_{s+1}$ to star forest $(s+1)S_l$, and determine the exact value of $ex(n, \{K_{k+1},(s+1)S_l\})$ for sufficiently large enough $n$. Furthermore, all the extremal graphs are obtained.
The planar Turán number of $\{K_4,Θ_5\}$
Let $\mathcal{F}$ be a set of graphs. The planar Turán number, $ex_{\mathcal{P}}(n,\mathcal{F})$, is the maximum number of edges in an $n$-vertex planar graph which does not contain any member of $\mathcal{F}$ as a subgraph. In this paper, we give upper bounds of $ex_{\mathcal{P}}(n,\{K_4,Θ_5\})\leqslant25/11(n-2)$. We also give constructions which show the bounds are tight for infinitely many graphs.
Matching-star size Ramsey numbers under connectivity constraint

Recently, Caro, Patkós, and Tuza (2022) introduced the concept of connected Turán number. We study a similar parameter in Ramsey theory. Given two graphs $G_1$ and $G_2$, the size Ramsey number $\hat{r}(G_1,G_2)$ refers to the smallest number of edges in a graph $G$ such that for any red-blue edge-coloring of $G$, either a red subgraph $G_1$ or a blue subgraph $G_2$ is present in $G$. If we further restrict the host graph $G$ to be connected, we obtain the connected size Ramsey number, denoted as $\hat{r}_c(G_1,G_2)$. Erdős and Faudree (1984) proved that $\hat r(nK_2,K_{1,m})=mn$ for all positive integers $m,n$. In this paper, we concentrate on the connected analog of this result. Rahadjeng, Baskoro, and Assiyatun (2016) provided the exact values of $\hat r_c(nK_2,K_{1,m})$ for $n=2,3$. We establish a more general result: for all positive integers $m$ and $n$ with $m\ge (n^2+2pn+n-3)/2$, we have $\hat r_c(nK_{1,p},K_{1,m})=n(m+p)-1$. As a corollary, $\hat r_c(nK_2,K_{1,m})=nm+n-1$ for $m\ge (n^2+3n-3)/2$. We also propose a conjecture for the interested reader.
Large line-free sets and their applications
In this paper, we construct explicit families of polynomials $P \in \mathbb{F}_q[x_1,\dots,x_n]$ with large root sets which have restricted intersections with affine lines. We use these sets to make substantial progress on a number of problems in extremal combinatorics.
For each prime power $q$ and integer $2 \le t \le q-1$, we construct $t$-line evasive subsets of $\mathbb{F}_q^n$ of size \[ q^{\,n\left(1-\frac{2}{t^2+t}\right)}, \] which is significantly larger than those previously known. Moreover, our method yields a partition of $\mathbb{F}_q^n$ into such sets.
We extend this partitioning result to the projective space $PG(n,q)$, obtaining the first explicit colorings for the vector space Ramsey number $R_q(2;k)$ that exhibit dependence on both $q$ and $k$. In particular, we show that \[ R_q(2;k) > \frac{(q-1)k}{2} - O_q(1), \] improving recent bounds.
Finally, we apply these constructions to extremal graph theory and improve the best-known bounds on the bipartite Turán number $ \mathrm{ex}(n,m,\{C_4,θ_{3,t}\})$. Most notably, we show that \[ \mathrm{ex}(n,n^{2/3},\{C_4,θ_{3,3}\}) = Θ(n^{1+1/9}), \] making progress on a question originally posed by Erdős.

We say that an edge-coloring of a graph $G$ is proper if every pair of incident edges receive distinct colors, and is rainbow if no two edges of $G$ receive the same color. Furthermore, given a fixed graph $F$, we say that $G$ is rainbow $F$-saturated if $G$ admits a proper edge-coloring which does not contain any rainbow subgraph isomorphic to $F$, but the addition of any edge to $G$ makes such an edge-coloring impossible. The maximum number of edges in a rainbow $F$-saturated graph is the rainbow Turán number, whose study was initiated in 2007 by Keevash, Mubayi, Sudakov, and Verstraëte. Recently, Bushaw, Johnston, and Rombach introduced study of a corresponding saturation problem, asking for the minimum number of edges in a rainbow $F$-saturated graph. We term this minimum the proper rainbow saturation number of $F$, denoted $\mathrm{sat}^*(n,F)$. We asymptotically determine $\mathrm{sat}^*(n,C_4)$, answering a question of Bushaw, Johnston, and Rombach. We also exhibit constructions which establish upper bounds for $\mathrm{sat}^*(n,C_5)$ and $\mathrm{sat}^*(n,C_6)$.
Mutual-visibility problems in Kneser and Johnson graphs

Let $G$ be a connected graph and $\cal X \subseteq V(G)$. By definition, two vertices $u$ and $v$ are $\cal X$-visible in $G$ if there exists a shortest $u,v$-path with all internal vertices being outside of the set $\cal X$. The largest size of $\cal X$ such that any two vertices of $G$ (resp. any two vertices from $\cal X$) are $\cal X$-visible is the total mutual-visibility number (resp. the mutual-visibility number) of $G$.
In this paper, we determine the total mutual-visibility number of Kneser graphs, bipartite Kneser graphs, and Johnson graphs. The formulas proved for Kneser, and bipartite Kneser graphs are related to the size of transversal-critical uniform hypergraphs, while the total mutual-visibility number of Johnson graphs is equal to a hypergraph Turán number. Exact values or estimations for the mutual-visibility number over these graph classes are also established.

An $r$-uniform hypergraph ($r$-graph for short) is linear if any two edges intersect at most one vertex. Let $\mathcal{F}$ be a given family of $r$-graphs. An $r$-graph $H$ is called $\mathcal{F}$-free if $H$ does not contain any member of $\mathcal{F}$ as a subgraph. The Turán number of $\mathcal{F}$ is the maximum number of edges in any $\mathcal{F}$-free $r$-graph on $n$ vertices, and the linear Turán number of $\mathcal{F}$ is defined as the Turán number of $\mathcal{F}$ in linear host hypergraphs. An $r$-uniform linear path $P^r_\ell$ of length $\ell$ is an $r$-graph with edges $e_1,\dots,e_\ell$ such that $|V(e_i)\cap V(e_j)|=1$ if $|i-j|=1$, and $V(e_i)\cap V(e_j)=\emptyset$ for $i\neq j$ otherwise. Gyárfás et al. [\textit{European J. Combin.} (2022) 103435] obtained an upper bound for the linear Turán number of $P_\ell^3$. In this paper, an upper bound for the linear Turán number of $P_\ell^r$ is obtained, which generalizes the known result of $P_\ell^3$ to any $P_\ell^r$. Furthermore, some results for the linear Turán number and Turán number of several linear star-path forests are obtained.

We consider the hypergraph Turán problem of determining $\mathrm{ex}(n, S^d)$, the maximum number of facets in a $d$-dimensional simplicial complex on $n$ vertices that does not contain a simplicial $d$-sphere (a homeomorph of $S^d$) as a subcomplex. We show that if there is an affirmative answer to a question of Gromov about sphere enumeration in high dimensions, then $\mathrm{ex}(n, S^d) \geq Ω(n^{d + 1 - (d + 1)/(2^{d + 1} - 2)})$. Furthermore, this lower bound holds unconditionally for 2-LC spheres, which includes all shellable spheres and therefore all polytopes. We also prove an upper bound on $\mathrm{ex}(n, S^d)$ of $O(n^{d + 1 - 1/2^{d - 1}})$ using a simple induction argument. We conjecture that the upper bound can be improved to match the conditional lower bound.
A hypergraph bipartite Turán problem with odd uniformity

In this paper, we investigate the hypergraph Turán number $ex(n,K^{(r)}_{s,t})$. Here, $K^{(r)}_{s,t}$ denotes the $r$-uniform hypergraph with vertex set $\left(\cup_{i\in [t]}X_i\right)\cup Y$ and edge set $\{X_i\cup \{y\}: i\in [t], y\in Y\}$, where $X_1,X_2,\cdots,X_t$ are $t$ pairwise disjoint sets of size $r-1$ and $Y$ is a set of size $s$ disjoint from each $X_i$. This study was initially explored by Erdős and has since received substantial attention in research. Recent advancements by Bradač, Gishboliner, Janzer and Sudakov have greatly contributed to a better understanding of this problem. They proved that $ex(n,K_{s,t}^{(r)})=O_{s,t}(n^{r-\frac{1}{s-1}})$ holds for any $r\geq 3$ and $s,t\geq 2$. They also provided constructions illustrating the tightness of this bound if $r\geq 4$ is {\it even} and $t\gg s\geq 2$. Furthermore, they proved that $ex(n,K_{s,t}^{(3)})=O_{s,t}(n^{3-\frac{1}{s-1}-\varepsilon_s})$ holds for $s\geq 3$ and some $ε_s>0$. Addressing this intriguing discrepancy between the behavior of this number for $r=3$ and the even cases, Bradač et al. post a question of whether \begin{equation*} \mbox{$ex(n,K_{s,t}^{(r)})= O_{r,s,t}(n^{r-\frac{1}{s-1}- \varepsilon})$ holds for odd $r\geq 5$ and any $s\geq 3$.} \end{equation*}
In this paper, we provide an affirmative answer to this question, utilizing novel techniques to identify regular and dense substructures. This result highlights a rare instance in hypergraph Turán problems where the solution depends on the parity of the uniformity.
On the maximum number of $r$-cliques in graphs free of complete $r$-partite subgraphs

We estimate the maximum possible number of cliques of size $r$ in an $n$-vertex graph free of a fixed complete $r$-partite graph $K_{s_1, s_2, \ldots, s_r}$. By viewing every $r$-clique as a hyperedge, the upper bound on the Turán number of the complete $r$-partite hypergraphs gives the upper bound $O\left(n^{r - {1}/{\prod_{i=1}^{r-1}s_i}}\right)$. We improve this to $o\left(n^{r - {1}/{\prod_{i=1}^{r-1}s_i}}\right)$. The main tool in our proof is the graph removal lemma. We also provide several lower bound constructions.
On multicolor Turán numbers

We address a problem which is a generalization of Turán-type problems recently introduced by Imolay, Karl, Nagy and Váli. Let $F$ be a fixed graph and let $G$ be the union of $k$ edge-disjoint copies of $F$, namely $G = \mathbin{\dot{\cup}}_{i=1}^{k} F_i$, where each $F_i$ is isomorphic to a fixed graph $F$ and $E(F_i)\cap E(F_j)=\emptyset$ for all $i \neq j$. We call a subgraph $H\subseteq G$ multicolored if $H$ and $F_i$ share at most one edge for all $i$. Define $\text{ex}_F(H,n)$ to be the maximum value $k$ such that there exists $G = \mathbin{\dot{\cup}}_{i=1}^{k} F_i$ on $n$ vertices without a multicolored copy of $H$. We show that $\text{ex}_{C_5}(C_3,n) \le n^2/25 + 3n/25+o(n)$ and that all extremal graphs are close to a blow-up of the 5-cycle. This bound is tight up to the linear error term.
A note on generalized crowns in linear r-graphs

An $r$-graph $H$ is a hypergraph consisting of a nonempty set of vertices $V$ and a collection of $r$-element subsets of $V$ we refer to as the edges of $H$. An $r$-graph $H$ is called linear if any two edges of $H$ intersect in at most one vertex. Let $F$ and $H$ be two linear $r$-graphs. If $H$ contains no copy of $F$, then $H$ is called $F$-free. The linear Turán number of $F$, denoted by $ex_r^{lin}(n,F)$, is the maximum number of edges in any $F$-free $n$-vertex linear $r$-graph. The crown $C_{13}$ (or $E_4$) is a linear 3-graph which is obtained from three pairwise disjoint edges by adding one edge that intersects all three of them in one vertex. In 2022, Gyárfás, Ruszinkó and Sárközy initiated the study of $ex_3^{lin}(n,F)$ for different choices of an acyclic 3-graph $F$. They determined the linear Turán numbers for all linear 3-graphs with at most 4 edges, except the crown. They established lower and upper bounds for $ex_3^{lin}(n,C_{13})$. In fact, their lower bound on $ex_3^{lin}(n,C_{13})$ is essentially tight, as was shown in a recent paper by Tang, Wu, Zhang and Zheng. In this paper, we generalize the notion of a crown to linear $r$-graphs for $r\ge 3$, and also generalize the above results to linear $r$-graphs.
Induced Turán problem in bipartite graphs

The classical extremal function for a graph $H$, $ex(K_n, H)$ is the largest number of edges in a subgraph of $K_n$ that contains no subgraph isomorphic to $H$. Note that defining $ex(K_n, H-ind)$ by forbidding induced subgraphs isomorphic to $H$ is not very meaningful for a non-complete $H$ since one can avoid it by considering a clique.
For graphs $F$ and $H$, let $ex(K_n, \{F, H-ind\})$ be the largest number of edges in an $n$-vertex graph that contains no subgraph isomorphic to $F$ and no induced subgraph isomorphic to $H$. Determining this function asymptotically reduces to finding either $ex(K_n, F)$ or $ex(K_n, H)$, unless $H$ is a biclique or both $F$ and $H$ are bipartite. Here, we consider the bipartite setting, $ex(K_{n,n}, \{F, H-ind\})$ when $K_n$ is replaced with $K_{n,n}$, $F$ is a biclique, and $H$ is a bipartite graph.
Our main result, a strengthening of a result by Sudakov and Tomon, implies that for any $d\geq 2$ and any $K_{d,d}$-free bipartite graph $H$ with each vertex in one part of degree either at most $d$ or a full degree, so that there are at most $d-2$ full degree vertices in that part, one has $ex(K_{n,n}, \{K_{t,t}, H-ind\}) = o(n^{2-1/d})$. This provides an upper bound on the induced Turán number for a wide class of bipartite graphs and implies in particular an extremal result for bipartite graphs of bounded VC-dimension by Janzer and Pohoata.
Ramsey and Turán numbers of sparse hypergraphs
Degeneracy plays an important role in understanding Turán- and Ramsey-type properties of graphs. Unfortunately, the usual hypergraphical generalization of degeneracy fails to capture these properties. We define the skeletal degeneracy of a $k$-uniform hypergraph as the degeneracy of its $1$-skeleton (i.e., the graph formed by replacing every $k$-edge by a $k$-clique). We prove that skeletal degeneracy controls hypergraph Turán and Ramsey numbers in a similar manner to (graphical) degeneracy.
Specifically, we show that $k$-uniform hypergraphs with bounded skeletal degeneracy have linear Ramsey number. This is the hypergraph analogue of the Burr-Erdős conjecture (proved by Lee). In addition, we give upper and lower bounds of the same shape for the Turán number of a $k$-uniform $k$-partite hypergraph in terms of its skeletal degeneracy. The proofs of both results use the technique of dependent random choice. In addition, the proof of our Ramsey result uses the `random greedy process' introduced by Lee in his resolution of the Burr-Erdős conjecture.

For a given collection $\mathcal{G} = (G_1,\dots, G_k)$ of graphs on a common vertex set $V$, which we call a \emph{graph system}, a graph $H$ on a vertex set $V(H) \subseteq V$ is called a \emph{rainbow subgraph} of $\mathcal{G}$ if there exists an injective function $ψ:E(H) \rightarrow [k]$ such that $e \in G_{ψ(e)}$ for each $e\in E(H)$. The maximum value of $\min_{i}\{|E(G_i)|\}$ over $n$-vertex graph systems $\mathcal{G}$ having no rainbow subgraph isomorphic to $H$ is called the rainbow Turán number $\mathrm{ex}_k^{\ast}(n, H)$ of $H$.
In this article, we study the rainbow Turán density $π_k^{\ast}(T) = \lim_{n \rightarrow \infty} \frac{\mathrm{ex}_k^{\ast}(n, T)}{\binom{n}{2}}$ of a tree $T$. While the classical Turán density $π(H)$ of a graph $H$ lies in the set $\{1-\frac{1}{t} : t\in \mathbb{N}\}$, the rainbow Turán density exhibits different behaviors as it can even be an irrational number. Nevertheless, we conjecture that the rainbow Turán density is always an algebraic number. We provide evidence for this conjecture by proving that the rainbow Turán density of a tree is an algebraic number. To show this, we identify the structure of extremal graphs for rainbow trees. Moreover, we further determine all tuples $(α_1,\dots, α_k)$ such that every graph system $(G_1,\dots,G_k)$ satisfying $|E(G_i)|>(α_i+o(1))\binom{n}{2}$ contains all rainbow $k$-edge trees. In the course of proving these results, we also develop the theory on the limit of graph systems.

We study how many copies of a graph $F$ that another graph $G$ with a given number of cliques is guaranteed to have. For example, one of our main results states that for all $t\ge 2$, if $G$ is an $n$ vertex graph with $kn^{3/2}$ triangles and $k$ is sufficiently large in terms of $t$, then $G$ contains at least
\[Ω(\min\{k^t n^{3/2},k^{\frac{2t^2}{3t-1}}n^{\frac{5t-2}{3t-1}}\})\]
copies of $K_{2,t}$, and furthermore, we show these bounds are essentially best-possible provided either $k\ge n^{1/2t}$ or if certain bipartite-analogues of well known conjectures for Turán numbers hold.
