We propose periodic Macdonald processes as a $(q,t)$-deformation of periodic Schur processes and a periodic analogue of Macdonald processes. It is known that, in the theory of stochastic processes related to a family of symmetric functions, the Cauchy-like identity gives an explicit expression of a partition function. We compute the partition functions of periodic Macdonald processes relying on the free field realization of the Macdonald theory. We also study several families of observables for periodic Macdonald processes and give formulas of their moments. The technical tool is the free field realization of operators that are diagonalized by the Macdonald symmetric functions, where the operators admit expressions by means of vertex operators. We show that, when we adopt Plancherel specializations, the corresponding periodic Macdonald process is related to a Young diagram-valued periodic continuous process. It is known that, for periodic Schur processes, determinantal formulas are only available when we extend them to take into account the charge. We also consider this kind of shift-mixed periodic Macdonald processes and discuss their Schur-limit.
Three Schur functors related to pre-Lie algebras

We give explicit combinatorial descriptions of three Schur functors arising in the theory of pre-Lie algebras. The first of them leads to a functorial description of the underlying vector space of the universal enveloping pre-Lie algebra of a given Lie algebra, strengthening the PBW theorem of Segal. The two other Schur functors provide functorial descriptions of the underlying vector spaces of the universal multiplicative enveloping algebra and of the module of Kähler differentials of a given pre-Lie algebra. An important consequence of such descriptions is an interpretation of the cohomology of a pre-Lie algebra with coefficients in a module as a derived functor for the category of modules over the universal multiplicative enveloping algebra.

We provide a formula for every Schur coefficient in the chromatic symmetric function of a graph in terms of special rim hook tabloids. This formula is useful in confirming the non-Schur positivity of the chromatic symmetric function of a graph, especially when Stanley's stable partition method does not work. As applications, we determine Schur positive fan graphs and Schur positive complete tripartite graphs. We show that any squid graph obtained by adding $n$ leaves to a common vertex on an $m$-vertex cycle is not Schur positive if $m\ne 2n-1$, and conjecture that neither are the squid graphs with $m=2n-1$.

Given a symmetric polynomial $P$ in $2n$ variables, there exists a unique symmetric polynomial $Q$ in $n$ variables such that \[ P(x_1,\ldots,x_n,x_1^{-1},\ldots,x_n^{-1}) =Q(x_1+x_1^{-1},\ldots,x_n+x_n^{-1}). \] We denote this polynomial $Q$ by $Φ_n(P)$ and show that $Φ_n$ is an epimorphism of algebras. We compute $Φ_n(P)$ for several families of symmetric polynomials $P$: symplectic and orthogonal Schur polynomials, elementary symmetric polynomials, complete homogeneous polynomials, and power sums. Some of these formulas were already found by Elouafi (2014) and Lachaud (2016).
The polynomials of the form $Φ_n(\operatorname{s}_{λ/μ}^{(2n)})$, where $\operatorname{s}_{λ/μ}^{(2n)}$ is a skew Schur polynomial in $2n$ variables, arise naturally in the study of the minors of symmetric banded Toeplitz matrices, when the generating symbol is a palindromic Laurent polynomial, and its roots can be written as $x_1,\ldots,x_n,x^{-1}_1,\ldots,x^{-1}_n$. Trench (1987) and Elouafi (2014) found efficient formulas for the determinants of symmetric banded Toeplitz matrices. We show that these formulas are equivalent to the result of Ciucu and Krattenthaler (2009) about the factorization of the characters of classical groups.

An $S$-ring (a Schur ring) is said to be separable with respect to a class of groups $\mathcal{K}$ if every algebraic isomorphism from the $S$-ring in question to an $S$-ring over a group from $\mathcal{K}$ is induced by a combinatorial isomorphism. A finite group $G$ is said to be separable with respect to $\mathcal{K}$ if every $S$-ring over $G$ is separable with respect to $\mathcal{K}$. We prove that every abelian group $G$ of order $9p$, where $p$ is a prime, is separable with respect to the class of all finite abelian groups. Modulo previously obtained results, this completes a classification of noncyclic abelian groups of odd order that are separable with respect to the class of all finite abelian groups. Also this implies that the Weisfeiler-Leman dimension of the class of Cayley graphs over $G$ is at most 2.
Planar maps and random partitions
This habilitation thesis summarizes the research that I have carried out from 2005 to 2019. It is organized in four chapters. The first three deal with random planar maps. Chapter 1 is about their metric properties: from a general map-mobile bijection, we compute the three-point function of quadrangulations, before discussing the connection with continued fractions. Chapter 2 presents the slice decomposition, a unified bijective approach that applies notably to irreducible maps. Chapter 3 concerns the $O(n)$ loop model on planar maps: by a combinatorial decomposition, we obtain the phase diagram before studying loop nesting statistics. Chapter 4 deals with random partitions and Schur processes, from steep domino tilings to fermionic systems.
A continuity bound for the expected number of connected components of a random graph: a model for epidemics
We consider a stochastic network model for epidemics, based on a random graph proposed by Ross [Journal of Applied Probability, 18, 309-315 (1981)]. Members of a population occupy nodes of the graph, with each member being in contact with those who occupy nodes which are connected to his or her node via edges. We prove that the expected number of people who need to be infected initially in order for the epidemic to spread to the entire population, which is given by the expected number of connected components of the random graph, is Lipschitz continuous in the underlying probability distribution of the random graph. We also obtain explicit bounds on the associated Lipschitz constant. We prove this continuity bound via a technique called majorization flow, which provides a general way to obtain tight continuity bounds for Schur concave functions. To establish bounds on the optimal Lipschitz constant we employ properties of the Mills ratio.
Generalized Matrix polynomials of Tree Laplacians indexed by Symmetric functions and the GTS poset

Let $T$ be a tree on $n$ vertices with $q$-Laplacian $L_T^q$ and Laplacian matrix $L_T$. Let $GTS_n$ be the generalized tree shift poset on the set of unlabelled trees on $n$ vertices. Inequalities are known between coefficients of the immanantal polynomial of $L_T$ (and $L_T^q$) as we go up the poset $GTS_n$. Using the Frobenius characteristic, this can be thought as a result involving the schur symmetric function $s_λ$. In this paper, we use an arbitrary symmetric function to define a {\it generalized matrix function} of an $n \times n$ matrix. When the symmetric function is the monomial and the forgotten symmetric function, we generalize such inequalities among coefficients of the generalized matrix polynomial of $L_T^q$ as we go up the $GTS_n$ poset.
Compact formulas for Macdonald polynomials and quasisymmetric Macdonald polynomials
We present several new and compact formulas for the modified and integral form of the Macdonald polynomials, building on the compact "multiline queue" formula for Macdonald polynomials due to Corteel, Mandelshtam and Williams. We also introduce a new quasisymmetric analogue of Macdonald polynomials. These quasisymmetric Macdonald polynomials refine the (symmetric) Macdonald polynomials and specialize at $q=t=0$ to the quasisymmetric Schur polynomials defined by Haglund, Luoto, Mason, and van Willigenburg. This is an extended abstract.
Bounded VC-dimension implies the Schur-Erdos conjecture

In 1916, Schur introduced the Ramsey number $r(3;m)$, which is the minimum integer $n$ such that for any $m$-coloring of the edges of the complete graph $K_n$, there is a monochromatic copy of $K_3$. He showed that $r(3;m) \leq O(m!)$, and a simple construction demonstrates that $r(3;m) \geq 2^{Ω(m)}$. An old conjecture of Erd\H os states that $r(3;m) = 2^{Θ(m)}$. In this note, we prove the conjecture for $m$-colorings with bounded VC-dimension, that is, for $m$-colorings with the property that the set system $\mathcal{F}$ induced by the neighborhoods of the vertices with respect to each color class has bounded VC-dimension.

We introduce the tropical $F$-polynomial $f_M$ of a quiver representation $M$. We study its interplay with the general presentation for any finite-dimensional basic algebra. We give an interpretation of evaluating $f_M$ at a weight vector. As a consequence, we give a presentation of the Newton polytope ${\sf N}(M)$ of $M$. We study the dual fan and 1-skeleton of ${\sf N}(M)$. We propose an algorithm to determine the generic Newton polytopes, and show it works for path algebras. As an application, we give a representation-theoretic interpretation of Fock-Goncharov's duality pairing. We give an explicit construction of dual clusters, which consists of real Schur representations. We specialize the above general results to the cluster-finite algebras and the preprojective algebras of Dynkin type.
On the product of generating functions for domino and bi-tableaux
The connection between the generating functions of various sets of tableaux and the appropriate families of quasisymmetric functions is a significant tool to give a direct analytical proof of some advanced bijective results and provide new combinatorial formulas. In this paper we focus on two kinds of type B Littlewood-Richardson coefficients and derive new formulas using weak composition quasisymmetric functions and Chow's quasisymmetric functions. In the type A case these coefficients give the multiplication table for Schur functions, i.e. the generating functions for classical Young tableaux. We look at their generalisations involving a set of bi-tableaux and domino tableaux.
Bases for Quotients of Symmetric Polynomials
We create several families of bases for the symmetric polynomials. From these bases we prove that certain Schur symmetric polynomials form a basis for quotients of symmetric polynomials that generalize the cohomology and the quantum cohomology of the Grassmannian. Our work also provides an alternative proof of a result due to Grinberg.

For numerical semigroups with a specified list of (not necessarily minimal) generators, we obtain explicit asymptotic expressions, and in some cases quasipolynomial/quasirational representations, for all major factorization length statistics. This involves a variety of tools that are not standard in the subject, such as algebraic combinatorics (Schur polynomials), probability theory (weak convergence of measures, characteristic functions), and harmonic analysis (Fourier transforms of distributions). We provide instructive examples which demonstrate the power and generality of our techniques. We also highlight unexpected consequences in the theory of homogeneous symmetric functions.
The matroid stratification of the Hilbert scheme of points on P^1

Given a homogeneous ideal $I$ in a polynomial ring over a field, one may record, for each degree $d$ and for each polynomial $f\in I_d$, the set of monomials in $f$ with nonzero coefficients. These data collectively form the tropicalization of $I$. Tropicalizing ideals induces a "matroid stratification" on any (multigraded) Hilbert scheme. Very little is known about the structure of these stratifications.
In this paper, we explore many examples of matroid strata, including some with interesting combinatorial structure, and give a convenient way of visualizing them. We show that the matroid stratification in the Hilbert scheme of points $(\mathbb{P}^1)^{[k]}$ is generated by all Schur polynomials in $k$ variables. We end with an application to the $T$-graph problem of $(\mathbb{A}^2)^{[n]}$; classifying this graph is a longstanding open problem, and we establish the existence of an infinite class of edges.

We explore some probabilistic applications arising in connections with $K$-theoretic symmetric functions. For instance, we determine certain corner distributions of random lozenge tilings and plane partitions. We also introduce some distributions that are naturally related to the corner growth model. Our main tools are dual symmetric Grothendieck polynomials and normalized Schur functions.

In this paper we characterize permutation groups that are automorphism groups of coloured graphs and digraphs and are abelian as abstract groups. This is done in terms of basic permutation group properties. Using Schur's classical terminology, what we provide is characterizations of the classes of 2-closed and $2*$-closed abelian permutation groups. This is the first characterization concerning these classes since they were defined.
PushTASEP in inhomogeneous space

We consider the PushTASEP (pushing totally asymmetric simple exclusion process, also sometimes called long-range TASEP) with the step initial configuration evolving in an inhomogeneous space. That is, the rate of each particle's jump depends on the location of this particle. We match the distribution of the height function of this PushTASEP with Schur processes. Using this matching and determinantal structure of Schur processes, we obtain limit shape and fluctuation results which are typical for stochastic particle systems in the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang universality class. PushTASEP is a close relative of the usual TASEP. In inhomogeneous space the former is integrable, while the integrability of the latter is not known.
Macdonald Polynomials and level two Demazure modules for affine $\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1}$
We define a family of symmetric polynomials $G_{ν,λ}(z_1,\cdots, z_{n+1},q)$ indexed by a pair of dominant integral weights. The polynomial $G_{ν,0}(z,q)$ is the specialized Macdonald polynomial and we prove that $G_{0,λ}(z,q)$ is the graded character of a level two Demazure module associated to the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_{n+1}$. Under suitable conditions on $(ν,λ)$ (which includes the case when $ν=0$ or $λ=0$) we prove that $G_{ν,λ}(z,q)$ is Schur positive and give explicit formulae for them in terms of Macdonald polynomials.
Diagonal entries of the average mixing matrix
We study the diagonal entries of the average mixing matrix of continuous quantum walks. The average mixing matrix is a graph invariant; it is the sum of the Schur squares of spectral idempotents of the Hamiltonian. It is non-negative, doubly stochastic and positive semi-definite. We investigate the diagonal entries of this matrix. We study the graphs for which the trace of the average mixing matrix is maximum or minimum and we classify those which are maximum. We give two constructions of graphs whose average mixing matrices have constant diagonal.
