Positroids are matroids realizable by real matrices with all nonnegative maximal minors. They partition the ordered matroids into equivalence classes, called positroid envelope classes, by their Grassmann necklaces. We give an explicit graph construction that shows that every positroid envelope class contains a graphic matroid. We prove that a graphic positroid is the unique matroid in its positroid envelope class. Finally, we show that every graphic positroid has an oriented graph representable by a signed incidence matrix with all nonnegative minors.
Cluster deep loci and mirror symmetry

Affine cluster varieties are covered up to codimension 2 by open algebraic tori. We put forth a general conjecture (based on earlier conversation between Vivek Shende and the last author) characterizing their deep locus, i.e. the complement of all cluster charts, as the locus of points with non-trivial stabilizer under the action of cluster automorphisms. We use the diagrammatics of Demazure weaves to verify the conjecture for skew-symmetric cluster varieties of finite cluster type with arbitrary choice of frozens and for the top open positroid strata of Grassmannians $\mathrm{Gr}(2,n)$ and $\mathrm{Gr}(3,n)$. We illustrate how this already has applications in symplectic topology and mirror symmetry, by proving that the Fukaya category of Grassmannians $\mathrm{Gr}(2,2n+1)$ is split-generated by finitely many Lagrangian tori, and homological mirror symmetry holds with a Landau--Ginzburg model proposed by Rietsch. Finally, we study the geometry of the deep locus, and find that it can be singular and have several irreducible components of different dimensions, but they all are again cluster varieties in our examples in really full rank cases.
Transversal matroids and the half plane property
We focus on checking the validity of the half-plane property on two prominent classes of transversal matroids, namely lattice path matroids and bicircular matroids. We show that lattice path matroids satisfy the half-plane property. Subsequently, we show an explicit example of a bicircular matroid that is not a positroid and discuss the negative correlation properties of bases of transversal matroids. We prove that sparse paving matroids do not satisfy the Rayleigh property, which helps us gain new perspectives about conjectures on negative correlation in basis elements of matroids in general.
The Chow-Lam Form

The classical Chow form encodes any projective variety by one equation. We here introduce the Chow-Lam form for subvarieties of a Grassmannian. By evaluating the Chow-Lam form at twistor coordinates, we obtain universal projection formulas. These were pioneered by Thomas Lam for positroid varieties in the study of amplituhedra, and we develop his approach further. Universal formulas for branch loci are obtained from Hurwitz-Lam forms. Our focus is on computations and applications in geometry.
Rado matroids and a graphical calculus for boundaries of Wilson loop diagrams

We study the boundaries of the positroid cells which arise from N = 4 super Yang Mills theory. Our main tool is a new diagrammatic object which generalizes the Wilson loop diagrams used to represent interactions in the theory. We prove conditions under which these new generalized Wilson loop diagrams correspond to positroids and give an explicit algorithm to calculate the Grassmann necklace of said positroids. Then we develop a graphical calculus operating directly on noncrossing generalized Wilson loop diagrams. In this paradigm, applying diagrammatic moves to a generalized Wilson loop diagram results in new diagrams that represent boundaries of its associated positroid, without passing through cryptomorphisms. We provide a Python implementation of the graphical calculus and use it to show that the boundaries of positroids associated to ordinary Wilson loop diagram are generated by our diagrammatic moves in certain cases.
Transversal and Paving Positroids
In this paper, we study positroids and its overlap with two classes of matroids: transversal and paving matroids. We exhibit a new class of fundamental transversal matroids and classify the Le-diagram for rank two transversal positroids. We also establish a combinatorial description for paving positroids in terms of Le-diagrams.
Excluded minors of interval positroids that are paving matroids
We prove that every paving matroid that is an excluded minor of interval positroids can be reduced to one of three fundamental families of excluded minors of interval positroids by relaxing dependent hyperplanes. Using this result, we classify all non-positroid excluded minors of interval positroids that are paving matroids. Additionally, we provide a criterion that characterizes all excluded minors of interval positroids that are paving positroids.

We study two-step flag positroids $(P_1, P_2)$, where $P_1$ is a quotient of $P_{2}$. We provide a complete characterization of all two-step flag positroids that contain a uniform matroid, extending and completing a partial result by Benedetti, Chávez, and Jiménez. To contrast general positroids with the special case of lattice path matroids, we show that the containment relations of Grassmann necklaces and conecklaces fully characterize flag lattice path matroids, but are insufficient for general flag positroids. Additionally, we prove that the decorated permutations of any elementary quotient pair are related by a cyclic shift, resolving a conjecture of Benedetti, Chávez and Jiménez.
Positroids, Dressian and stable polynomials
Our work is motivated by the connection established between Lorentzian polynomials and the Dressian in the seminal work of Brändén and Huh on Lorentzian polynomials. We analyze this relation for the class of positroids, and are able to show that in this case, we can relate a multiaffine homogenous stable polynomial to it. Additionally, we also highlight that a conjecture for matroids posed by Brändén and Huh is true when considered over the class of Rayleigh matroids which strictly contain the class of positroids. We collect these findings along with other results for further exploration.

We give an explicit characterization of the standard monomials for positroid varieties with respect to the Hodge degeneration and give a Gröbner basis. Furthermore, we show that promotion and evacuation biject standard monomials of a positroid variety with those of its cyclic shifts and $w_0$-reflection, respectively. The connection to promotion allows us to identify standard monomials of a positroid variety with Lam's cyclic Demazure crystal. Using a recurrence on the Hilbert series, we give an inductive formula for the character of cyclic Demazure modules.
Demazure weaves for reduced plabic graphs (with a proof that Muller-Speyer twist is Donaldson-Thomas)
First, this article develops the theory of weaves and their cluster structures for the affine cones of positroid varieties. In particular, we explain how to construct a weave from a reduced plabic graph, show it is Demazure, compare their associated cluster structures, and prove that the conjugate surface of the graph is Hamiltonian isotopic to the Lagrangian filling associated to the weave. The T-duality map for plabic graphs has a surprising key role in the construction of these weaves. Second, we use the above established bridge between weaves and reduced plabic graphs to show that the Muller-Speyer twist map on positroid varieties is the Donaldson-Thomas transformation. This latter statement implies that the Muller-Speyer twist is a quasi-cluster automorphism. An additional corollary of our results is that target labeled seeds and the source labeled seeds are related by a quasi-cluster transformation.
Connectivity gaps among matroids with the same enumerative invariants

Many important enumerative invariants of a matroid can be obtained from its Tutte polynomial, and many more are determined by two stronger invariants, the $\mathcal{G}$-invariant and the configuration of the matroid. We show that the same is not true of the most basic connectivity invariants. Specifically, we show that for any positive integer $n$, there are pairs of matroids that have the same configuration (and so the same $\mathcal{G}$-invariant and the same Tutte polynomial) but the difference between their Tutte connectivities exceeds $n$, and likewise for vertical connectivity and branch-width. The examples that we use to show this, which we construct using an operation that we introduce, are transversal matroids that are also positroids.
Monotone links in DAHA and EHA
We define monotone links on a torus, obtained as projections of curves in the plane whose coordinates are monotone increasing. Using the work of Morton-Samuelson, to each monotone link we associate elements in the double affine Hecke algebra and the elliptic Hall algebra. In the case of torus knots (when the curve is a straight line), we recover symmetric function operators appearing in the rational shuffle conjecture.
We show that the class of monotone links viewed as links in $\mathbb R^3$ coincides with the class of Coxeter links, studied by Oblomkov-Rozansky in the setting of the flag Hilbert scheme. When the curve satisfies a convexity condition, we recover positroid links that we previously studied. In the convex case, we conjecture that the associated symmetric functions are Schur positive, extending a recent conjecture of Blasiak-Haiman-Morse-Pun-Seelinger, and we speculate on the relation to Khovanov-Rozansky homology.
Our constructions satisfy a skein recurrence where the base case consists of piecewise almost linear curves. We show that convex piecewise almost linear curves give rise to algebraic links.
Quasi-coincidence of cluster structures on positroid varieties

By work of a number of authors, beginning with Scott and culminating with Galashin and Lam, the coordinate rings of positroid varieties in the Grassmannian carry cluster algebra structures. In fact, they typically carry many such structures, the two best understood being the source-labelled and target-labelled structures, referring to how the initial cluster is computed from a Postnikov diagram or plabic graph. In this article, we show that these two cluster algebra structures quasi-coincide, meaning in particular that a cluster variable in one structure may be expressed in the other structure as the product of a cluster variable and a Laurent monomial in the frozen variables. This resolves a conjecture attributed to Muller and Speyer from 2017. The proof depends critically on categorification: of the relevant cluster algebra structures by the author, of perfect matchings and twists by the author with Çanakçı and King, and of quasi-equivalences of cluster algebras by Fraser and Keller. By similar techniques, we also show that Muller and Speyer's left twist map is a quasi-cluster equivalence from the target-labelled structure to the source-labelled structure.
Lattice path matroidal subdivisions, Positive Tropical Grassmannian and Amplituhedron
We introduce the notion of lattice path matroidal subdivisions, or LPM subdivisions for short, and show that these subdivisions are regular and hence the weight vectors for them lie in the Dressian. This leads us to explore the structure of the set of these weights inside the Dressian and owing to the fact that Lattice path matroids are positroids, we move to the positive Dressian which in turn is equal to the positive tropical Grassmannian, an object of immense interest currently in Physics. This is related to the amplituhedron and positive configuration space, which we describe here and wish to explore these connections further.
A characterization of positroids, with applications to amalgams and excluded minors

A matroid of rank $r$ on $n$ elements is a positroid if it has a representation by an $r$ by $n$ matrix over $\mathbb{R}$, each $r$ by $r$ submatrix of which has nonnegative determinant. Earlier characterizations of connected positroids and results about direct sums of positroids involve connected flats and non-crossing partitions. We prove another characterization of positroids of a similar flavor and give some applications of the characterization. We show that if $M$ and $N$ are positroids and $E(M)\cap E(N)$ is an independent set and a set of clones in both $M$ and $N$, then the free amalgam of $M$ and $N$ is a positroid, and we prove a second result of that type. Also, we identify several multi-parameter infinite families of excluded minors for the class of positroids.
Parametrizing positroid cells using bicolored tilings
Bicolored tilings are given by a collection of smooth curves in a disk with a coloring map on the tiles these curves form. Postnikov diagrams can be viewed as the image of certain bicolored tilings under the Scott map. We introduce a reduction technique on bicolored tilings, and show that a tiling maps to a Postnikov diagram if and only if it is reduced. We then use bicolored tilings to parametrise positroid cells in the Grassmannian, and use the reduction, along with another transform, to generate tilings associated to lower-dimensional positroids cells. We also show that the parametrisation of such a cell can be derived from the parametrisation of the higher-dimensional cell.

This is a survey article on Richardson varieties and their combinatorics. A Richardson variety is the intersection, inside the flag manifold GL_n/B_+, of a Schubert cell (B_- u B_+)/B_+ and an opposite Schubert cell (B_+ w B_+)/B_+ (or the similar intersection of Schubert varieties). In this survey, we provide an overview of what is known about (1) homogeneous coordinate rings of Richardson varieties, their bases and degenerations (2) parametrizations of Richardson varieties using Bott-Samelson varieties (3) Deodhar's decompositions of the flag manifold and of Richardson varieties within it and (4) total positivity in the flag manifold. We also provide an overview of the combinatorics of positroid varieties, their relations to Richardson varieties, and how they are parametrized using plabic graphs. Most of this survey is an overview of other authors' work over the last forty years, but there are also some minor original results: For example, that coordinate rings of open Richardson varieties are UFD's (Corollary 3.23), that the Deodhar decomposition is not a stratification in Lie type A (Section 4.3) and explicit descriptions of the Deodhar decomposition in terms of ranks of submatrices (Section 4.4).
Positivity for partial tropical flag varieties
We study positivity notions for the tropicalization of type A flag varieties and the flag Dressian. We focus on the hollow case, where we have one constituent of rank 1 and another of corank 1. We characterize the three different notions that exist for this case in terms of Plücker coordinates. These notions are the tropicalization of the totally non-negative flag variety, Bruhat subdivisions and the non-negative flag Dressian. We show the first example where the first two concepts above do not coincide. In this case the non-negative flag Dressian equals the tropicalization of the Plücker non-negative flag variety and is equivalent to flag positroid subdivisions. Using these characterizations, we provide similar conditions on the Plücker coordinates for flag varieties of arbitrary rank that are necessary for each of these positivity notions, and conjecture them to be sufficient. In particular we show that regular flag positroid subdivisions always come from the non-negative Dressian. Along the way, we show that the set of Bruhat interval polytopes equals the set of twisted Bruhat interval polytopes and we introduce valuated flag gammoids.
Braid variety cluster structures, I: 3D plabic graphs
We introduce $3$-dimensional generalizations of Postnikov's plabic graphs and use them to establish cluster structures for type $A$ braid varieties. Our results include known cluster structures on open positroid varieties and double Bruhat cells, and establish new cluster structures for type $A$ open Richardson varieties.
