We show that, if $Γ$ is a point group of $\mathbb{R}^{k+1}$ of order two for some $k\geq 2$ and $\mathcal S$ is a $k$-pseudomanifold which has a free automorphism of order two, then either $\mathcal S$ has a $Γ$-symmetric infinitesimally rigid realisation in $\mathbb{R}^{k+1}$ or $k=2$ and $Γ$ is a half-turn rotation group. This verifies a conjecture made by Klee, Nevo, Novik and Zhang for the case when $Γ$ is a point-inversion group. Our result implies that Stanley's lower bound theorem for centrally symmetric polytopes extends to pseudomanifolds with a free simplicial involution, thus verifying (the inequality part) of another conjecture of Klee, Nevo, Novik and Zheng. Both results actually apply to a much larger class of simplicial complexes, namely the circuits of the simplicial matroid. The proof of our rigidity result adapts earlier ideas of Fogelsanger to the setting of symmetric simplicial complexes.
Degrees of interior polynomials and parking function enumerators
The interior polynomial of a directed graph is defined as the $h^*$-polynomial of the graph's (extended) root polytope, and it displays several attractive properties. Here we express its degree in terms of the minimum cardinality of a directed join, and give a formula for the leading coefficient. We present natural generalizations of these results to oriented regular matroids; in the process we also give a facet description for the extended root polytope of an oriented regular matroid.
By duality, our expression for the degree of the interior polynomial implies a formula for the degree of the parking function enumerator of an Eulerian directed graph (which is equivalent to the greedoid polynomial of the corresponding branching greedoid). We extend that result to obtain the degree of the parking function enumerator of an arbitrary rooted directed graph in terms of the minimum cardinality of a certain type of feedback arc set.
The excluded minors for $k$-polymatroids with binary $k$-natural matroids
If $\mathcal{C}$ is a minor-closed class of matroids, then the class $\widetilde{\mathcal{C}}'_k$ of $k$-polymatroids whose $k$-natural matroids are in $\mathcal{C}$ is also minor-closed. We investigate the following question: When $\mathcal{C}$ is the class of binary matroids, what are the excluded minors for $\widetilde{\mathcal{C}}'_k$? When $k = 1$, $\widetilde{\mathcal{C}}'_1$ is simply the class of binary matroids, which has $U_{2,4}$ as its only excluded minor. Joseph E. Bonin and Kevin Long answered the question for $k = 2$ and found that the set of excluded minors for $\widetilde{\mathcal{C}}'_2$ is infinite. We determine the sets of excluded minors for $\widetilde{\mathcal{C}}'_k$ when $k \geq 3$ and find that they are finite. There are $12$ excluded minors for $\widetilde{\mathcal{C}}'_3$ and when $k > 3$, there are $k+7$ excluded minors for $\widetilde{\mathcal{C}}'_k$.

The classes of bicircular matroids and lattice path matroids are closed under minors. The complete list of excluded minors for the class of lattice path matroids is known, and it has been recently shown that the analogous list for the class of bicircular matroids is finite. In this paper, we establish the complete list of excluded minors for the class of matroids that is the intersection of these two classes. This resolves a recently posed open problem.
Zero loci of nullvectors and skew zero forcing in graphs and hypergraphs
There is interesting internal structure in the nullspaces of graph and hypergraph adjacency matrices, especially for trees, bipartite graphs, and related combinatorial classes. The zero loci of nullvectors, i.e., their zero coordinates' indices, encode information about matchings, coverings, and edges' influence on rank. This set system is the lattice of flats of a ``kernel matroid'', a subsystem of which are the ``stalled'' sets closed under skew zero forcing (SZF), a graph percolation/infection model known to have connections with rank and nullity. For a wide variety of graphs, the lattice of SZF-closed sets is also a matroid, a fact which can be used to obtain a polynomial-time algorithm for computing the skew zero forcing number. This contrasts with the general case, where we show that the corresponding decision problem is NP-hard. We also define skew zero forcing for hypergraphs, and show that, for linear hypertrees, the poset of SZF-closed sets is dual to the lattice of ideals of the hypergraph's nullvariety; while, for complete hypergraphs, the SZF-closed sets and the zero loci of nullvectors are more loosely related.
Realizations of multiassociahedra via bipartite rigidity
Let $Ass_k(n)$ denote the simplicial complex of $(k+1)$-crossing-free subsets of edges in $\binom{n}{2}$. Here $k,n\in \mathbb{N}$ and $n\ge 2k+1$. It is conjectured that this simplicial complex is polytopal (Jonsson 2005). However, despite several recent advances, this is still an open problem.
In this paper we attack this problem using as a vector configuration the rows of a rigidity matrix, namely, hyperconnectivity restricted to bipartite graphs. We see that in this way $Ass_k(n)$ can be realized as a polytope for $k=2$ and $n\le 10$, and as a fan for $k=2$ and $n\le 13$, and for $k=3$ and $n\le 11$. However, we also prove that the cases with $k\ge 3$ and $n\ge \max\{12,2k+4\}$ are not realizable in this way.
We also give an algebraic interpretation of the rigidity matroid, relating it to a projection of determinantal varieties with implications in matrix completion, and prove the presence of a fan isomorphic to $Ass_{k-1}(n-2)$ in the tropicalization of that variety.
Pattern Recognition on Oriented Matroids: Symmetric Cycles in the Hypercube Graphs. VI
We briefly discuss linear algebraic, combinatorial, and applied aspects of an exact model representation of binary arrays. As an illustration, we present two linear algebraic portraits of a string of characters.
Roudneff's Conjecture in Dimension $4$

J.-P. Roudneff conjectured in 1991 that every arrangement of $n \ge 2d+1\ge 5$ pseudohyperplanes in the real projective space $\mathbb{P}^d$ has at most $\sum_{i=0}^{d-2} \binom{n-1}{i}$ complete cells (i.e., cells bounded by each hyperplane). The conjecture is true for $d=2,3$ and for arrangements arising from Lawrence oriented matroids. The main result of this manuscript is to show the validity of Roudneff's conjecture for $d=4$. Moreover, based on computational data we conjecture that the maximum number of complete cells is only obtained by cyclic arrangements.

In this paper, we study nearly Gorensteinness of Ehrhart rings arising from lattice polytopes. We give necessary conditions and sufficient conditions on lattice polytopes for their Ehrhart rings to be nearly Gorenstein. Using this, we give an efficient method for constructing nearly Gorenstein polytopes. Moreover, we determine the structure of nearly Gorenstein (0, 1)-polytopes and characterise nearly Gorensteinness of edge polytopes and graphic matroids.

Given a complex vector subspace $V$ of $\mathbb{C}^n$, the dimension of the amoeba of $V \cap (\mathbb{C}^*)^n$ depends only on the matroid that $V$ defines on the ground set $\{1,\ldots,n\}$. Here we prove that this dimension is given by the minimum of a certain function over all partitions of the ground set, as previously conjectured by Rau. We also prove that this formula can be evaluated in polynomial time.
On lattice path matroid polytopes: alcoved triangulations and snake decompositions
We study lattice path matroid polytopes using their alcoved triangulation. We characterize Gorenstein lattice path matroid polytopes, yielding a new class of matroids satisfying the unimodality conjecture of de Loera, Haws, and K{ö}ppe. Further, we characterize matroids whose polytopes are order polytopes as a special class of lattice path matroids, called snakes. Finally, we give combinatorial interpretations of the volumes and $h^*$-vectors of lattice path matroids of rank $2$ based on their snake decomposition.
On tropical Hodge theory for tropical varieties
To prove log-concavity of the characteristic polynomials of matroids, Adiprasito-Huh-Katz proved the Kähler package (the hard Lefschetz theorem and the Hodge-Riemann bilinear relations) for their Chow rings. Amini-Piquerez generalized it to tropical cohomology of smooth projective tropical varieties. Their proofs were combinatorial. In this paper, we establish tropical Hodge theory except for regularity of solutions of Laplacian, and give a conditional proof of the Kähler package in the same way as compact Kähler manifolds.
Strong arboricity of graphs

An edge coloring of a graph $G$ is \emph{woody} if no cycle is monochromatic. The \emph{arboricity} of a graph $G$, denoted by $\arb (G)$, is the least number of colors needed for a woody coloring of $G$. A coloring of $G$ is \emph{strongly woody} if after contraction of any single edge it is still woody. In other words, not only any cycle in $G$ can be monochromatic but also any \emph{broken cycle}, i.e., a simple path arising by deleting a single edge from the cycle. The least number of colors in a strongly woody coloring of $G$ is denoted by $ζ(G)$ and called the \emph{strong arboricity} of $G$.
We prove that $ζ(G)\leqslant χ_a(G)$, where $χ_a(G)$ is the \emph{acyclic chromatic number} of $G$ (the least number of colors in a proper vertex coloring without a $2$-colored cycle). In particular, we get that $ζ(G)\leqslant 5$ for planar graphs and $ζ(G)\leqslant 4$ for otuterplanar graphs. We conjecture that $ζ(G)\leqslant 4$ holds for all planar graphs. We also prove that $ζ(G)\leqslant 4(\arb(G))^2$ holds for arbitrary graph $G$. A natural generalziation of strong arboricity to \emph{matroids} is also discussed, with a special focus on cographic matroids.
Cooperative coloring of matroids

Let $M_1,M_2,\ldots,M_k$ be a collection of matroids on the same ground set $E$. A coloring $c:E \rightarrow \{1,2,\ldots,k\}$ is called \emph{cooperative} if for every color $j$, the set of elements in color $j$ is independent in $M_j$. We prove that such coloring always exists provided that every matroid $M_j$ is itself $k$-colorable (the set $E$ can be split into at most $k$ independent sets of $M_j$). We derive this fact from a generalization of Seymour's list coloring theorem for matroids, which asserts that every $k$-colorable matroid is $k$-list colorable, too. We also point on some consequences for the game-theoretic variants of cooperative coloring of matroids.

Matroids and semigraphoids are discrete structures abstracting and generalizing linear independence among vectors and conditional independence among random variables, respectively. Despite the different nature of conditional independence from linear independence, deep connections between these two areas are found and still undergoing active research. In this paper, we give a characterization of the embedding of matroids into conditional independence structures and its oriented counterpart, which lead to new axiom systems of matroids and oriented matroids.

We generalize Baker-Bowler's theory of matroids over tracts to orthogonal matroids, define orthogonal matroids with coefficients in tracts in terms of Wick functions, orthogonal signatures, circuit sets, and orthogonal vector sets, and establish basic properties on functoriality, duality, and minors. Our cryptomorphic definitions of orthogonal matroids over tracts provide proofs of several representation theorems for orthogonal matroids. In particular, we give a new proof that an orthogonal matroid is regular if and only if it is representable over $\mathbb{F}_2$ and $\mathbb{F}_3$, which was originally shown by Geelen, and we prove that an orthogonal matroid is representable over the sixth-root-of-unity partial field if and only if it is representable over $\mathbb{F}_3$ and $\mathbb{F}_4$.
Complete Log Concavity of Coverage-Like Functions
We introduce an expressive subclass of non-negative almost submodular set functions, called strongly 2-coverage functions which include coverage and (sums of) matroid rank functions, and prove that the homogenization of the generating polynomial of any such function is completely log-concave, taking a step towards characterizing the coefficients of (homogeneous) completely log-concave polynomials. As a consequence we obtain that the "level sets" of any such function form an ultra-log concave sequence.

We give a combinatorial formula for the Ehrhart coefficients of a certain class of weighted multi-hypersimplices. In a special case, where these polytopes coincide with the base polytope of the panhandle matroid $\textrm{Pan}_{k,n-2,n}$, we show that the Ehrhart coefficients are positive.
Generalized Splitting and element splitting operations on $p$-matroids
In this paper, we define generalized splitting and element splitting operations on $p$-matroids. $p$-matroids are the matroids representable over $GF(p).$ The circuits and the bases of the new matroid are characterized in terms of circuits and bases of the original matroid, respectively. A class of $n$-connected $p$-matroids which gives n-connected $p$- matroids using the generalized splitting operation is also characterized. We also prove that connectivity of $p$-matroid is preserved under element splitting operation. Sufficient conditions to obtain Eulerian $p$-matroid from Eulerian $p$-matroid under splitting and element splitting operations are provided.

We provide a combinatorial interpretation of the Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomial of the matroid arising from the braid arrangement of type $\mathrm{A}_{n-1}$, which gives an interpretation of the intersection cohomology Betti numbers of the reciprocal plane of the braid arrangement. Moreover, we prove an equivariant version of this result. The key combinatorial object is a class of matroids arising from series-parallel networks. As a consequence, we prove a conjecture of Elias, Proudfoot, and Wakefield on the top coefficient of Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomials of braid matroids, and we provide explicit generating functions for their Kazhdan--Lusztig and $Z$-polynomials.
