We introduce in this paper the marked chain-order polytopes associated to a marked poset, generalizing the marked chain polytopes and marked order polytopes by putting them as extremal cases in an Ehrhart equivalent family. Some combinatorial properties of these polytopes are studied. This work is motivated by the framework of PBW degenerations in representation theory of Lie algebras.

In this paper we give a combinatorial parametrization of leading terms of defining relations for level $k$ standard modules for affine Lie algebra of type $C_{n}\sp{(1)}$. Using this parametrization we conjecture colored Rogers-Ramanujan type combinatorial identities for $n\geq 2$ and $k\geq 2$; the identity in the case $n=k=1$ is equivalent to one of Capparelli's identities.

We describe a method, based on the theory of Macdonald-Koornwinder polynomials, for proving bounded Littlewood identities. Our approach provides an alternative to Macdonald's partial fraction technique and results in the first examples of bounded Littlewood identities for Macdonald polynomials. These identities, which take the form of decomposition formulas for Macdonald polynomials of type $(R,S)$ in terms of ordinary Macdonald polynomials, are $q,t$-analogues of known branching formulas for characters of the symplectic, orthogonal and special orthogonal groups. In the classical limit, our method implies that MacMahon's famous ex-conjecture for the generating function of symmetric plane partitions in a box follows from the identification of $(\mathrm{GL}(n,\mathbb{R}),\mathrm{O}(n))$ as a Gelfand pair. As further applications, we obtain combinatorial formulas for characters of affine Lie algebras; Rogers-Ramanujan identities for affine Lie algebras, complementing recent results of Griffin et al.; and quadratic transformation formulas for Kaneko--Macdonald-type basic hypergeometric series.

We consider the generating polynomial of the number of rooted trees on the set $\{1,2,\dots,n\}$ counted by the number of descending edges (a parent with a greater label than a child). This polynomial is an extension of the descent generating polynomial of the set of permutations of a totally ordered $n$-set, known as the Eulerian polynomial. We show how this extension shares some of the properties of the classical one. B. Drake proved that this polynomial factors completely over the integers. From his product formula it can be concluded that this polynomial has positive coefficients in the $γ$-basis and we show that a formula for these coefficients can also be derived. We discuss various combinatorial interpretations of these positive coefficients in terms of leaf-labeled binary trees and in terms of the Stirling permutations introduced by Gessel and Stanley. These interpretations are derived from previous results of the author and Wachs related to the poset of weighted partitions and the free multibracketed Lie algebra.

We present a new combinatorial formula for Hall-Littlewood functions associated with the affine root system of type $\tilde A_{n-1}$, i.e. corresponding to the affine Lie algebra $\hat{\mathfrak{sl}}_n$. Our formula has the form of a sum over the elements of a basis constructed by Feigin, Jimbo, Loktev, Miwa and Mukhin in the corresponding irreducible representation.
Our formula can be viewed as a weighted sum of exponentials of integer points in a certain infinite-dimensional convex polyhedron. We derive a weighted version of Brion's theorem and then apply it to our polyhedron to prove the formula.

Let $\mathfrak g$ be a simple Lie algebra, $\mathfrak b$ a fixed Borel subalgebra, and $W$ the Weyl group of $\mathfrak g$. In this note, we study a relationship between the maximal abelian ideals of $\mathfrak b$ and the minimal inversion complete sets of $W$. The latter have been recently defined by Malvenuto et al. (J. Algebra, 424 (2015), 330-356.)
(Co)Homology of Poset Lie Algebras

We investigate the (co)homological properties of two classes of Lie algebras that are constructed from any finite poset: the solvable class $\frak{gl}^\preceq$ and the nilpotent class $\frak{gl}^\prec$. We confirm the conjecture of Jollenbeck that says: every prime power $p^r\!\leq\!n\!-\!2$ appears as torsion in $H_\ast(\frak{nil}_n;\mathbb{Z})$, and every prime power $p^r\!\leq\!n\!-\!1$ appears as torsion in $H_\ast(\frak{sol}_n;\mathbb{Z})$. If $\preceq$ is a bounded poset, then the (co)homology of $\frak{gl}^\preceq$ is \emph{torsion-convex}, i.e. if it contains $p$-torsion, then it also contains $p'$-torsion for every prime $p'\!<\!p$. \par We obtain new explicit formulas for the (co)homology of some families over arbitrary fields. Among them are the solvable non-nilpotent analogs of the Heisenberg Lie algebras from the Cairns & Jambor article, the 2-step Lie algebras from Armstrong & Cairns & Jessup article, strictly block-triangular Lie algebras, etc. The resulting generating functions and the combinatorics of how they are obtained are interesting in their own right. \par All this is done by using AMT (algebraic Morse theory). This article serves as a source of examples of how to construct useful acyclic matchings, each of which in turn induces compelling combinatorial problems and solutions. It also enables graph theory to be used in homological algebra.
The $\boldsymbol{SO(2r)_2}$ string functions as $\boldsymbol{q}$-diagrams

We discuss our conjecture for simply laced Lie algebras level two string functions of mark one fundamental weights and prove it for the $SO(2r)$ algebra. To prove our conjecture we introduce $q$-diagrams and examine the diagrammatic interpretations of known identities by Euler, Cauchy, Heine, Jacobi and Ramanujan. Interestingly, the diagrammatic approach implies these identities are related in the sense that they represent the first few terms in an infinite series of diagrammatic identities. Furthermore, these diagrammatic identities entail all the identities needed to prove our conjecture as well as generalise it to all $SO(2r)$ level two string functions. As such, our main objective is proving these series of diagrammatic identities thus extending the works mentioned and establishing our conjecture for the $SO(2r)$ level two string functions.

We study the PBW filtration on irreducible finite--dimensional representations for the Lie algebra of type $\tt B_n$. We prove in several cases, including all multiples of the adjoint representation and all irreducible finite--dimensional representations for $\tt B_3$, that there exists a normal polytope such that the lattice points of this polytope parametrize a basis of the corresponding associated graded space. As a consequence we obtain several classes of favourable modules and graded combinatorial character formulas.
Kraśkiewicz-Pragacz modules and Ringel duality

Kraśkiewicz and Pragacz introduced representations of the upper-triangular Lie algebras whose characters are Schubert polynomials. In a previous work the author studied the structure of Kraśkiewicz-Pragacz modules using the theory of highest weight categories. From the results there, in particular we obtain a certain highest weight category whose standard modules are KP modules. In this paper we show that this highest weight category is self Ringel-dual: this leads to an interesting symmetry relation on Ext groups between KP modules. We also show that the tensor product operation on b-modules is compatible with Ringel duality functor.

We introduce a Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}_{\mathbf{Q}}(\mathbf{m})$ and an associative algebra $\mathcal{U}_{q,\mathbf{Q}}(\mathbf{m})$ associated with the Cartan data of $\mathfrak{gl}_m$ which is separated into $r$ parts with respect to $\mathbf{m}=(m_1, \dots, m_r)$ such that $m_1+ \dots + m_r =m$. We show that the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}_{\mathbf{Q}} (\mathbf{m})$ is a filtered deformation of the current Lie algebra of $\mathfrak{gl}_m$, and we can regard the algebra $\mathcal{U}_{q, \mathbf{Q}}(\mathbf{m})$ as a "$q$-analogue" of $U(\mathfrak{g}_{\mathbf{Q}}(\mathbf{m}))$. Then, we realize a cyclotomic $q$-Schur algebra as a quotient algebra of $\mathcal{U}_{q, \mathbf{Q}}(\mathbf{m})$ under a certain mild condition. We also study the representation theory for $\mathfrak{g}_{\mathbf{Q}}(\mathbf{m})$ and $\mathcal{U}_{q,\mathbf{Q}}(\mathbf{m})$, and we apply them to the representations of the cyclotomic $q$-Schur algebras.
Scattering diagrams, theta functions, and refined tropical curve counts

Working over various graded Lie algebras and in arbitrary dimension, we express scattering diagrams and theta functions in terms of counts of tropical curves/disks, weighted by multiplicities given in terms of iterated Lie brackets. Over the tropical vertex group, our tropical curve counts are known to give certain descendant log Gromov-Witten invariants. Working over the quantum torus algebra yields theta functions for quantum cluster varieties, and our tropical description sets up for geometric interpretations of these. As an immediate application, we prove the quantum Frobenius conjecture of Fock and Goncharov. We also prove a refined version of the Carl-Pumperla-Siebert result on consistency of theta functions, and we prove the non-degeneracy of the trace-pairing for the Gross-Hacking-Keel Frobenius structure conjecture.
Combinatorial theory of permutation-invariant random matrices I: partitions, geometry and renormalization
In this article, we define and study a geometry and an order on the set of partitions of an even number of objects. One of the definitions involves the partition algebra, a structure of algebra on the set of such partitions depending on an integer parameter N. Then we emulate the theory of random matrices in a combinatorial framework: for any parameter N, we introduce a family of linear forms on the partition algebras which allows us to define a notion of weak convergence similar to the convergence in moments in random matrices theory. A renormalization of the partition algebras allows us to consider the weak convergence as a simple convergence in a fixed space. This leads us to the definition of a deformed partition algebra for any integer parameter N and to the definition of two transforms: the cumulants transform and the exclusive moments transform. Using an improved triangular inequality for the distance defined on partitions, we prove that the deformed partition algebras, endowed with a deformation of the linear forms converge as N go to infinity. This result allows us to prove combinatorial properties about geodesics and a convergence theorem for semi-groups of functions on partitions. At the end we study a sub-algebra of functions on infinite partitions with finite support : a new addition operation and a notion of R-transform are defined. We introduce the set of multiplicative functions which becomes a Lie group for the new addition and multiplication operations. For each of them, the Lie algebra is studied. The appropriate tools are developed in order to understand the algebraic fluctuations of the moments and cumulants for converging sequences. This allows us to extend all the results we got for the zero order of fluctuations to any order.
A uniform realization of the combinatorial $R$-matrix

Kirillov-Reshetikhin crystals are colored directed graphs encoding the structure of certain finite-dimensional representations of affine Lie algebras. A tensor products of column shape Kirillov-Reshetikhin crystals has recently been realized in a uniform way, for all untwisted affine types, in terms of the quantum alcove model. We enhance this model by using it to give a uniform realization of the combinatorial $R$-matrix, i.e., the unique affine crystal isomorphism permuting factors in a tensor product of KR crystals. In other words, we are generalizing to all Lie types Schützenberger's sliding game (jeu de taquin) for Young tableaux, which realizes the combinatorial $R$-matrix in type $A$. Our construction is in terms of certain combinatorial moves, called quantum Yang-Baxter moves, which are explicitly described by reduction to the rank 2 root systems. We also show that the quantum alcove model does not depend on the choice of a sequence of alcoves joining the fundamental one to a translation of it.
Two-Step and Three-Step Nilpotent Lie Algebras Constructed from Schreier Graphs

We associate a two-step nilpotent Lie algebra to an arbitrary Schreier graph. We then use properties of the Schreier graph to determine necessary and sufficient conditions for this Lie algebra to extend to a three-step nilpotent Lie algebra. As an application, if we start with pairs of non-isomorphic Schreier graphs coming from Gassmann-Sunada triples, we prove that the pair of associated two-step nilpotent Lie algebras are always isometric. In contrast, we use a well-known pair of Schreier graphs to show that the associated three-step nilpotent extensions need not be isometric.
Hopf Algebras and Markov Chains
This thesis introduces a way to build Markov chains out of Hopf algebras. The transition matrix of a "Hopf-power Markov chain" is (the transpose of) the matrix of the coproduct-then-product operator on a combinatorial Hopf algebra with respect to a suitable basis. These chains describe the breaking-then-recombining of the combinatorial objects in the Hopf algebra. The motivating example is the famous Gilbert-Shannon-Reeds model of riffle-shuffling of a deck of cards, which arises in this manner from the shuffle algebra.
The primary reason for constructing Hopf-power Markov chains, or for rephrasing familiar chains through this lens, is that much information about them comes simply from translating well-known facts on the underlying Hopf algebra. For example, there is an explicit formula for the stationary distribution (Theorem 4.5.1), and constructing quotient algebras show that certain statistics on a Hopf-power Markov chain are themselves Markov chains (Theorem 4.7.1). Perhaps the pinnacle is Theorem 2.5.1, a collection of algorithms for a full left and right eigenbasis in many common cases where the underlying Hopf algebra is commutative or cocommutative. This arises from a cocktail of the Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt theorem, the Cartier-Milnor-Moore theorem, Reutenauer's structure theory of the free Lie algebra, and Patras's Eulerian idempotent theory.
Since Hopf-power Markov chains can exhibit very different behaviour depending on the structure of the underlying Hopf algebra and its distinguished basis, one must restrict attention to certain styles of Hopf algebras in order to obtain stronger results. This thesis will focus respectively on a free-commutative basis, which produces "independent breaking" chains, and a cofree basis; there will be both general statements and in-depth examples.
On Lie algebra weight systems for 3-graphs

A {\em $3$-graph} is a connected cubic graph such that each vertex is is equipped with a cyclic order of the edges incident with it. A {\em weight system} is a function $f$ on the collection of $3$-graphs which is {\em antisymmetric}: $f(H)=-f(G)$ if $H$ arises from $G$ by reversing the orientation at one of its vertices, and satisfies the IHX-equation. Key instances of weight systems are the functions $\varphi_{\frak{g}}$ obtained from a metric Lie algebra $\frak{g}$ by taking the structure tensor $c$ of $\frak{g}$ with respect to some orthonormal basis, decorating each vertex of the $3$-graph by $c$, and contracting along the edges.
We give equations on values of any complex-valued weight system that characterize it as complex Lie algebra weight system. It also follows that if $f=\varphi_{\frak{g}}$ for some complex metric Lie algebra $\frak{g}$, then $f=\varphi_{\frak{g}'}$ for some unique complex reductive metric Lie algebra $\frak{g}'$. Basic tool throughout is geometric invariant theory.
Connection matrices and Lie algebra weight systems for multiloop chord diagrams

We give necessary and sufficient conditions for a weight system on multiloop chord diagrams to be obtainable from a metrized Lie algebra representation, in terms of a bound on the ranks of associated connection matrices.
Here a multiloop chord diagram is a graph with directed and undirected edges so that at each vertex precisely one directed edge is entering and precisely one directed edge is leaving, and each vertex is incident with precisely one undirected edge. Weight systems on multiloop chord diagrams yield the Vassiliev invariants for knots and links.
The $k$-th connection matrix of a function $f$ on the collection of multiloop chord diagrams is the matrix with rows and columns indexed by $k$-labeled chord tangles, and with entries equal to the $f$-value on the join of the tangles.

The set of weights of a finite-dimensional representation of a reductive Lie algebra has a natural poset structure ("weight poset"). Studying certain combinatorial problems related to antichains in weight posets, we realised that the best setting is provided by the representations associated with $\mathbb Z$-gradings of simple Lie algebras (arXiv: math.CO 1411.7683). If $\mathfrak g$ is a simple Lie algebra, then a $\mathbb Z$-grading of $\mathfrak g$ induces a $\mathbb Z$-grading of the corresponding root system $Δ$. In this article, we elaborate on a general theory of lower ideals (or antichains) in the corresponding weight posets $Δ(1)$. In particular, we provide a bijection between the lower ideals in $Δ(1)$ and certain elements of the Weyl group of $\mathfrak g$. An inspiring observation is that, to a great extent, the theory of lower ideals in $Δ(1)$ is similar to the theory of upper (= ad-nilpotent) ideals in the whole poset of positive roots $Δ^+$.
Antichains in weight posets associated with gradings of simple Lie algebras

For a reductive Lie algebra $\mathfrak h$ and a simple finite-dimensional $\mathfrak h$-module $V$, the set of weights of $V$, $P(V)$, has a natural poset structure. We consider antichains in the weight poset $P(V)$ and a certain operator $\mathfrak X$ acting on antichains. Eventually, we impose stronger constraints on $(\mathfrak h,V)$ and stick to the case in which $\mathfrak h$ and $V$ are associated with a $Z$-grading of a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$. Then $V$ is a weight multiplicity free $\mathfrak h$-module and $P(V)$ can be regarded as a subposet of $Δ^+$, where $Δ$ is the root system of $\mathfrak g$. Our goal is to demonstrate that antichains in the weight posets associated with $Z$-gradings of $\mathfrak g$ exhibit many good properties similar to those of $Δ^+$ that are observed earlier in arXiv: math.CO 0711.3353 (=Ref. [14] in the text).
