The fine structure of 321 avoiding involutions
We study the involutions belonging to the class of 321 avoiding permutations. We calculate the algebraic generating functions of the set containing the involutions avoiding 321 and of some of its subsets. Precisely we determine the algebraic generating functions of the involutions that are expansions of 12, of those expansions of 21, of the simple ones and of their expansions. The graphics of the simple involutions are caracterized. Being the simple involutions avoiding 321 counted by Riordan's numbers, a combinatoric interpretation of the results is illustrated through a class of Motzkin paths. Another interpretation is given through Dyck paths.

Let $\C_n$ be the set of Dyck paths of length $n$. In this paper, by a new automorphism of ordered trees, we prove that the statistic `number of exterior pairs', introduced by A. Denise and R. Simion, on the set $\C_n$ is equidistributed with the statistic `number of up steps at height $h$ with $h\equiv 0$ (mod 3)'. Moreover, for $m\ge 3$, we prove that the two statistics `number of up steps at height $h$ with $h\equiv 0$ (mod $m$)' and `number of up steps at height $h$ with $h\equiv m-1$ (mod $m$)' on the set $\C_n$ are `almost equidistributed'. Both results are proved combinatorially.
Some simple bijections involving lattice walks and ballot sequences
In this note we observe that a bijection related to Littelmann's root operators (for type $A_1$) transparently explains the well known enumeration by length of walks on $\N$ (left factors of Dyck paths), as well as some other enumerative coincidences. We indicate a relation with bijective solutions of Bertrand's ballot problem: those can be mechanically transformed into bijective proofs of the mentioned enumeration formula.

We exhibit a canonical connection between maximal (0,1)-fillings of a moon polyomino avoiding north-east chains of a given length and reduced pipe dreams of a certain permutation. Following this approach we show that the simplicial complex of such maximal fillings is a vertex-decomposable, and thus shellable, sphere. In particular, this implies a positivity result for Schubert polynomials. For Ferrers shapes, we moreover construct a bijection to maximal fillings avoiding south-east chains of the same length which specializes to a bijection between k-triangulations of the n-gon and k-fans of Dyck paths of length 2(n-2k). Using this, we translate a conjectured cyclic sieving phenomenon for k-triangulations with rotation to the language of k-flagged tableaux with promotion.
Labeled Ballot Paths and the Springer Numbers

The Springer numbers are defined in connection with the irreducible root systems of type $B_n$, which also arise as the generalized Euler and class numbers introduced by Shanks. Combinatorial interpretations of the Springer numbers have been found by Purtill in terms of Andre signed permutations, and by Arnol'd in terms of snakes of type $B_n$. We introduce the inversion code of a snake of type $B_n$ and establish a bijection between labeled ballot paths of length n and snakes of type $B_n$. Moreover, we obtain the bivariate generating function for the number B(n,k) of labeled ballot paths starting at (0,0) and ending at (n,k). Using our bijection, we find a statistic $α$ such that the number of snakes $π$ of type $B_n$ with $α(π)=k$ equals B(n,k). We also show that our bijection specializes to a bijection between labeled Dyck paths of length 2n and alternating permutations on [2n].
A compositional shuffle conjecture specifying touch points of the Dyck path

We introduce a $q,t$-enumeration of Dyck paths which are forced to touch the main diagonal at specific points and forbidden to touch elsewhere and conjecture that it describes the action of the Macdonald theory $\nabla$ operator applied to a Hall-Littlewood polynomial. Our conjecture refines several earlier conjectures concerning the space of diagonal harmonics including the "shuffle conjecture" (Duke J. Math. $\mathbf {126}$ (2005), pp. 195-232) for $\nabla e_n[X]$. We bring to light that certain generalized Hall-Littlewood polynomials indexed by compositions are the building blocks for the algebraic combinatorial theory of $q,t$-Catalan sequences and we prove a number of identities involving these functions.

We study the number of tilings of skew Young diagrams by ribbon tiles shaped like Dyck paths, in which the tiles are "vertically decreasing". We use these quantities to compute pairing probabilities in the double-dimer model: Given a planar bipartite graph $G$ with special vertices, called nodes, on the outer face, the double-dimer model is formed by the superposition of a uniformly random dimer configuration (perfect matching) of $G$ together with a random dimer configuration of the graph formed from $G$ by deleting the nodes. The double-dimer configuration consists of loops, doubled edges, and chains that start and end at the boundary nodes. We are interested in how the chains connect the nodes. An interesting special case is when the graph is $ε(\Z\times\N)$ and the nodes are at evenly spaced locations on the boundary $\R$ as the grid spacing $ε\to 0$.
Bijections from weighted Dyck paths to Schroeder paths

Kim and Drake used generating functions to prove that the number of 2-distant noncrossing matchings, which are in bijection with little Schroeder paths, is the same as the weight of Dyck paths in which downsteps from even height have weight 2. This work presents bijections from those Dyck paths to little Schroeder paths, and from a similar set of Dyck paths to big Schroeder paths. We show the effect of these bijections on the corresponding matchings, find generating functions for two new classes of lattice paths, and demonstrate a relationship with 231-avoiding permutations.
Enumeration of connected Catalan objects by type

Noncrossing set partitions, nonnesting set partitions, Dyck paths, and rooted plane trees are four classes of Catalan objects which carry a notion of type. There exists a product formula which enumerates these objects according to type. We define a notion of `connectivity' for these objects and prove an analogous product formula which counts connected objects by type. Our proof of this product formula is combinatorial and bijective. We extend this to a product formula which counts objects with a fixed type and number of connected components. We relate our product formulas to symmetric functions arising from parking functions. We close by presenting an alternative proof of our product formulas communicated to us by Christian Krattenthaler which uses generating functions and Lagrange inversion.
Bi-banded Paths, a Bijection and the Narayana Numbers
We find a bijection between bi-banded paths and peak-counting paths, applying to two classes of lattice paths including Dyck paths. Thus we find a new interpretation of Narayana numbers as coefficients of weight polynomials enumerating bi-banded Dyck paths, which class of paths has arisen naturally in previous literature in a solution of the stationary state of the `TASEP' stochastic process.

In a paper by Sapounakis, Tasoulas, and Tsikouras \cite{stt}, the authors count the number of occurrences of patterns of length four in Dyck paths. In this paper we specify in one direction and generalize in another. We only count ballot paths that avoid a given pattern, where a ballot path stays weakly above the diagonal $y=x$, starts at the origin, and takes steps from the set $\{\uparrow ,\to \}=\{u,r\}$. A pattern is a finite string made from the same step set; it is also a path. Notice that a ballot path ending at a point along the diagonal is a Dyck path.
Enumeration of area-weighed Dyck paths with restricted height
We derive explicit expressions for $q$-orthogonal polynomials arising in the enumeration of area-weighted Dyck paths with restricted height.
Dyck Paths, Standard Young Tableaux, and Pattern Avoiding Permutations
We present a generating function and a closed counting formula in two variables that enumerate a family of classes of permutations that avoid or contain an increasing pattern of length three and have a prescribed number of occurrences of another pattern of length three. This gives a refinement of some previously studied statistics, most notably one by Noonan. The formula is also shown to enumerate a family of classes of Dyck paths and Standard Young Tableaux, and a bijection is given between the corresponding classes of these two families of objects. Finally, the results obtained are used to solve an optimization problem for a certain card game.
The descent statistic over 123-avoiding permutations
We exploit Krattenthaler's bijection between 123-avoiding permutations and Dyck paths to determine the Eulerian distribution over the set $S_n(123)$ of 123-avoiding permutations in $S_n$. In particular, we show that the descents of a permutation correspond to valleys and triple falls of the associated Dyck path. We get the Eulerian numbers of $S_n(123)$ by studying the joint distribution of these two statistics on Dyck paths.
The Riordan Group and Symmetric Lattice Paths
In this paper, we study symmetric lattice paths. Let $d_{n}$, $m_{n}$, and $s_{n}$ denote the number of symmetric Dyck paths, symmetric Motzkin paths, and symmetric Schröder paths of length $2n$, respectively. By using Riordan group methods we obtain six identities relating $d_{n}$, $m_{n}$, and $s_{n}$ and also give two of them combinatorial proofs. Finally, we investigate some relations satisfied by the generic element of some special Riordan arrays and get the average mid-height and the average number of points on the x-axis of symmetric Dyck paths of length $2n.$

There is a natural bijection between Dyck paths and basis diagrams of the Temperley-Lieb algebra defined via tiling. Overhang paths are certain generalisations of Dyck paths allowing more general steps but restricted to a rectangle in the two-dimensional integer lattice. We show that there is a natural bijection, extending the above tiling construction, between overhang paths and basis diagrams of the Brauer algebra.

In this article, we investigate bijections on various classes of set partitions of classical types that preserve openers and closers. On the one hand we present bijections that interchange crossings and nestings. For types B and C, they generalize a construction by Kasraoui and Zeng for type A, whereas for type D, we were only able to construct a bijection between non-crossing and non-nesting set partitions. On the other hand we generalize a bijection to type B and C that interchanges the cardinality of the maximal crossing with the cardinality of the maximal nesting, as given by Chen, Deng, Du, Stanley and Yan for type A. Using a variant of this bijection, we also settle a conjecture by Soll and Welker concerning generalized type B triangulations and symmetric fans of Dyck paths.

We exploit Krattenthaler's bijection between the set $S_n(3\textrm{-}1\textrm{-}2)$ of permutations in $S_n$ avoiding the classical pattern $3\textrm{-}1\textrm{-}2$ and Dyck $n$-paths to study the distribution of every consecutive pattern of length 3 on the set $S_n(3\textrm{-}1\textrm{-}2)$. We show that these consecutive patterns split into 3 equidistribution classes, by means of an involution on Dyck paths due to E.Deutsch. In addition, we state equidistribution theorems concerning triplets of statistics relative to the occurrences of the consecutive patterns of length 3 in a permutation.
Generalizations of Chung-Feller Theorem II
The classical Chung-Feller theorem [2] tells us that the number of Dyck paths of length $n$ with $m$ flaws is the $n$-th Catalan number and independent on $m$. L. Shapiro [9] found the Chung-Feller properties for the Motzkin paths. Mohanty's book [5] devotes an entire section to exploring Chung-Feller theorem. Many Chung-Feller theorems are consequences of the results in [5]. In this paper, we consider the $(n,m)$-lattice paths. We study two parameters for an $(n,m)$-lattice path: the non-positive length and the rightmost minimum length. We obtain the Chung-Feller theorems of the $(n,m)$-lattice path on these two parameters by bijection methods. We are more interested in the pointed $(n,m)$-lattice paths. We investigate two parameters for an pointed $(n,m)$-lattice path: the pointed non-positive length and the pointed rightmost minimum length. We generalize the results in [5]. Using the main results in this paper, we may find the Chung-Feller theorems of many different lattice paths.

We interpret walks in the first quadrant with steps {(1,1),(1,0),(-1,0), (-1,-1)} as a generalization of Dyck words with two sets of letters. Using this language, we give a formal expression for the number of walks in the steps above beginning and ending at the origin. We give an explicit formula for a restricted class of such words using a correspondance between such words and Dyck paths. This explicit formula is exactly the same as that for the degree of the polynomial satisfied by the square of the area of cyclic n-gons conjectured by Dave Robbins although the connection is a mystery. Finally we remark on another combinatorial problem in which the same formula appears and argue for the existence of a bijection.
