The Induced Saturation Number for $\mathcal{V}_3$ is Linear
Given a poset $\mathcal{P}$, a family $\mathcal{F}$ of elements in the Boolean lattice is said to be $\mathcal{P}$-saturated if $\mathcal{F}$ does not contain an induced copy $\mathcal P$, but every proper superset of $\mathcal{F}$ contains one. The minimum size of a $\mathcal P$-saturated family in the $n$-dimensional Boolean lattice is denoted by $sat^*(n,\mathcal{P})$.\par In this paper, we consider the poset $\mathcal V_3$ (the four element poset with one minimal element and three incomparable maximal elements) and show that $sat^*(n,\mathcal{V}_3)\geq \frac{n}{2}$. This represents the first linear lower bound for $sat^*(n,\mathcal{V}_3)$, improving upon the previously best-known bound of $2\sqrt{n}$. Our result establishes that $sat^*(n,\mathcal{V}_3) = Θ(n)$.
On the $(k,\ell)$-multiset anonymity measure for social graphs
The publication of social graphs must be preceded by a rigorous analysis of privacy threats against social graph users. When the threat comes from inside the social network itself, the threat is called an active attack, and the de-facto privacy measure used to quantify the resistance to such an attack is the $(k,\ell)$-anonymity. The original formulation of $(k,\ell)$-anonymity represents the adversary's knowledge as a vector of distances to the set of attacker nodes. In this article, we argue that such adversary is too strong when it comes to counteracting active attacks. We, instead, propose a new formulation where the adversary's knowledge is the multiset of distances to the set of attacker nodes. The goal of this article is to study the $(k,\ell)$-multiset anonymity from a graph theoretical point of view, while establishing its relationship to $(k,\ell)$-anonymity in one hand, and considering the $k$-multiset antiresolving sets as its theoretical frame, in a second one. That is, we prove properties of some graph families in relation to whether they contain a set of attacker nodes that breaks the $(k,\ell)$-multiset anonymity. From a practical point of view, we develop a linear programming formulation of the $k$-multiset antiresolving sets that allows us to calculate the resistance of social graphs against active attacks. This is useful for analysts who wish to know the level of privacy offered by a graph.

Prime Power Residues and Blocking Sets
Published • View Publication • BIB
Let $q$ be a fixed odd prime. We show that a finite subset $B$ of integers, not containing any perfect $q^{th}$ power, contains a $q^{th}$ power modulo almost every prime if and only if $B$ corresponds to a blocking set (with respect to hyperplanes) in $\mathrm{PG}(\mathbb{F}_{q}^{k})$. Here, $k$ is the number of distinct prime divisors of $q$-free parts of elements of $B$. As a consequence, the property of a subset $B$ to contain $q^{th}$ power modulo almost every prime $p$ is invariant under geometric $q$-equivalence defined by an element of the projective general linear group $\mathrm{PGL}(\mathbb{F}_{q}^{k})$. Employing this connection between two disparate branches of mathematics, Galois geometry and number theory, we classify, and provide bounds on the sizes of, minimal such sets $B$.

On Sierpiński packing chromatic number and recognition of Sierpiński products
The Sierpiński product $G \otimes _f H$ of graphs $G$ and $H$ with respect to a function $f \colon V(G)\rightarrow V(H)$ has the vertex set $V(G)\times V(H)$. For every $g\in V(G)$ it contains a disjoint copy $gH$ of $H$, and for every edge $gg'$ of $G$ there is the edge $(g,f(g'))(g',f(g))$ between $gH$ and $g'H$. In this paper, the Sierpiński packing chromatic number is defined as the minimum of $χ_ρ(G\otimes _f H)$ over all functions $f$, where $χ_ρ(X)$ is the packing chromatic number of $X$. The upper Sierpiński packing chromatic number is analogously defined as the maximum corresponding value. The (upper) Sierpiński packing chromatic number is determined for all Sierpiński product graphs whose both factors are complete. Sierpiński product graphs whose factors are paths or stars are also studied. Their Sierpiński packing chromatic number is always $3$, while their upper Sierpiński packing chromatic number is bounded from below and above. It is also proved that for a given graph $G$, it can be checked in polynomial time whether $G$ has a representation as a Sierpiński product graphs both factors of which being trees.

Signless Laplacian index conditions for doubly chorded cycles in graphs with given order
Published • View Publication • BIB
In this paper, we show that for a graph of order $n$, where $n\ge 5$, if the signless Laplacian index is larger than or equal to certain value depending on $n$, then the graph contains a doubly chorded cycle, where the chords incident to a common vertex, unless it is two specified graphs.
When does a tree activate the random graph?
Let $F$ and $G$ be two graphs. A spanning subgraph $H$ of $G$ is called weakly $F$-saturated if one can add to $H$ the edges of $G \setminus H$ in some order, so that whenever a new edge is added, a new copy of $F$ is formed. Obtaining lower bounds for the minimum size $\mathrm{wsat}(G,F)$ of such an $H$ is a classical problem in extremal combinatorics. In particular, in the past 40 years, various algebraic tools have been developed to prove lower bounds on the weak saturation number $\mathrm{wsat}(G,F)$. Our paper uncovers a new connection of weak saturation to topology of clique complexes, that allows to prove tight lower bounds in some cases when the algebraic tools are not efficient. It is easy to see that the smallest $K_3$-saturating graphs in $K_n$ are trees, thus $\mathrm{wsat}(K_n,K_3)=n-1$. In 2017, Korándi and Sudakov proved that this is also the case in dense random graphs $G\sim G_{n,p}$, $p=\mathrm{const}\in(0,1)$, and posed the question of determining the smallest $p$ for which $G_{n,p}$ contains a $K_3$-saturating tree with high probability. Using the new topological connection, we show that this critical $p$ is of order $n^{-1/3-o(1)}$. Inspired by Gromov's local-to-global principle for hyperbolic groups, we further develop our topological approach and determine the critical probability up to a constant factor, for trees with diameter at most $n^{c}$, for some $c>0$. The new connection also enables us to improve the best known upper bound on the threshold probability for simple connectivity of the 2-dimensional clique complex of $G_{n,p}$, due to Kahle.
A simple layered-wheel-like construction
Published • View Publication • BIB
In recent years, there has been significant interest in characterizing the induced subgraph obstructions to bounded treewidth and pathwidth. While this has recently been resolved for pathwidth, the case of treewidth remains open, and prior work has reduced the problem to understanding the layered-wheel-like obstructions -- graphs that contain large complete minor models with each branching set inducing a path; exclude large walls as induced minors; exclude large complete bipartite graphs as induced minors; and exclude large complete subgraphs. There are various constructions of such graphs, but they are all rather involved. In this paper, we present a simple construction of layered-wheel-like graphs with arbitrarily large treewidth. Three notable features of our construction are: (a) the vertices of degree at least four can be made to be arbitrarily far apart; (b) the girth can be made to be arbitrarily large; and (c) every outerstring induced subgraph of the graphs from our construction has treewidth bounded by an absolute constant. In contrast, among several previously known constructions of layered wheels, none achieves (a); at most one satisfies either (b) or (c); and none satisfies both (b) and (c) simultaneously. In particular, this is related to a former conjecture of Trotignon, that every graph with large enough treewidth, excluding large walls and large complete bipartite graphs as induced minors, and large complete subgraphs, must contain an outerstring induced subgraph of large treewidth. Our construction provides the first counterexample to this conjecture that can also be made to have arbitrarily large girth.

The Saturation Number for the Diamond is Linear
Published • View Publication • BIB
For a fixed poset $\mathcal P$ we say that a family $\mathcal F\subseteq\mathcal P([n])$ is $\mathcal P$-saturated if it does not contain an induced copy of $\mathcal P$, but whenever we add a new set to $\mathcal F$, we form an induced copy of $\mathcal P$. The size of the smallest such family is denoted by $\text{sat}^*(n, \mathcal P)$.\par For the diamond poset $\mathcal D_2$ (the two-dimensional Boolean lattice), while it is easy to see that the saturation number is at most $n+1$, the best known lower bound has stayed at $O(\sqrt n)$ since the introduction of the area of poset saturation. In this paper we prove that $\text{sat}^*(n, \mathcal D_2)\geq \frac{n+1}{5}$, establishing that the saturation number for the diamond is linear. The proof uses a result about certain pairs of set systems which may be of independent interest.

An improved construction for the triangle removal lemma
We construct $n$-vertex graphs $G$ where $εn^2$ edges must be deleted to become triangle-free, which contain less than $ε^{(C_{\text{new}}-o(1))\log_2 1/ε}n^3$ triangles for $C_{\text{new}}= \frac{1}{4\log_2(4/3)} \approx 1.6601$. Previously, a bound of the same shape was known, but with $C_{\text{new}}$ replaced by $C_{\text{old}} := C_{\text{new}}/2$. Our construction uses ideas from additive combinatorics, drawing especially from the corners problem, but does not yield new bounds for those problems.

Subdivision-free graphs with the maximum spectral radius
Given a graph family $\mathbb{H}$, let ${\rm SPEX}(n,\mathbb{H}_{\rm sub})$ denote the set of $n$-vertex $\mathbb{H}$-subdivision-free graphs with the maximum spectral radius. In this paper, we investigate the problem of graph subdivision from a spectral extremal perspective, with a focus on the structural characterization of graphs in ${\rm SPEX}(n,\mathbb{H}_{\rm sub})$. For any graph $H \in \mathbb{H}$, let $α(H)$ denote its independence number. Define $γ_\mathbb{H}:=\min_{H\in \mathbb{H}}\{|H| - α(H) - 1\}$. We prove that every graph in ${\rm SPEX}(n,\mathbb{H}_{\rm sub})$ contains a spanning subgraph isomorphic to $K_{γ_\mathbb{H}}\vee (n-γ_\mathbb{H})K_1$, which is obtained by joining a $γ_\mathbb{H}$-clique with an independent set of $n-γ_\mathbb{H}$ vertices. This extends a recent result by Zhai, Fang, and Lin concerning spectral extremal problems for $\mathbb{H}$-minor-free graphs.
An exact Ore-degree condition for Hamilton cycles in oriented graphs
An oriented graph is a digraph that contains no 2-cycles, i.e., there is at most one arc between any two vertices. We show that every oriented graph $G$ of sufficiently large order $n$ with $\mathrm{deg}^+(x) +\mathrm{deg}^{-}(y)\geq (3n-3)/4$ whenever $G$ does not have an edge from $x$ to $y$ contains a Hamilton cycle. This is best possible and solves a problem of Kühn and Osthus from 2012. Our result generalizes the result of Keevash, Kühn, and Osthus and improves the asymptotic bound obtained by Kelly, Kühn, and Osthus.

Short rainbow cycles for families of small edge sets
Published • View Publication • BIB
In 2019, Aharoni proposed a conjecture generalizing the Caceetta-Häggkvist conjecture: if an $n$-vertex graph $G$ admits an edge coloring (not necessarily proper) with $n$ colors such that each color class has size at least $r$, then $G$ contains a rainbow cycle of length at most $\lceil n/r\rceil$. Recent works \cite{AG2023,ABCGZ2023,G2025} have shown that if a constant fraction of the color classes are non-star, then the rainbow girth is $O(\log n)$. In this note, we extend these results, and we show that even a small fraction of non-star color classes suffices to ensure logarithmic rainbow girth. We also prove that the logarithmic bound is of the right order of magnitude. Moreover, we determine the threshold fraction between the types of color classes at which the rainbow girth transitions from linear to logarithmic.

Regularization and asymmetric extremal numbers of subdivisions
Given a real $μ\geq 1$, a graph $H$ is $μ$-almost-regular if $Δ(H)\leq μδ(H)$. The celebrated regularization theorem of Erdős and Simonovits states that for every real $0<\varepsilon<1$ there exists a real $μ=μ(\varepsilon)$ such that every $n$-vertex graph $G$ with $Ω(n^{1+\varepsilon})$ edges contains an $m$-vertex $μ$-almost-regular subgraph $H$ with $Ω(m^{1+\varepsilon})$ edges for some $n^{\varepsilon\frac{1-\varepsilon}{1+\varepsilon}}\leq m\leq n$. We develop an enhanced version of it in which the subgraph $H$ also has average degree at least $Ω(\frac{d(G)}{\log n})$, where $d(G)$ is the average degree of $G$. We then give a bipartite analogue of the enhanced regularization theorem. Using the bipartite regularization theorem, we establish upper bounds on the maximum number of edges in a bipartite graph with part sizes $m$ and $n$ that does not contain a $2k$-subdivision of $K_{s,t}$ or $2k$-multi-subdivisions of $K_p$, thus extending the corresponding work of Janzer to the bipartite setting for even subdivisions. We show these upper bounds are tight up to a constant factor for infinitely many pairs $(m,n)$. The problem for estimating the maximum number of edges in a bipartite graph with part sizes $m$ and $n$ that does not contain a $(2k+1)$-subdivision of $K_{s,t}$ remains open.
Robustness of the Sauer-Spencer Theorem
We prove a robust version of a graph embedding theorem of Sauer and Spencer. To state this sparser analogue, we define $G(p)$ to be a random subgraph of $G$ obtained by retaining each edge of $G$ independently with probability $p \in [0,1]$, and let $m_1(H)$ be the maximum $1$-density of a graph $H$. We show that for any constant $Δ$ and $γ> 0$, if $G$ is an $n$-vertex host graph with minimum degree $δ(G) \geq (1 - 1/2Δ+ γ)n$ and $H$ is an $n$-vertex graph with maximum degree $Δ(H) \leq Δ$, then for $p \geq Cn^{-1/m_1(H)}\log n$, the random subgraph $G(p)$ contains a copy of $H$ with high probability. Our value for $p$ is optimal up to a log-factor. In fact, we prove this result for a more general minimum degree condition on $G$, by introducing an \emph{extension threshold} $δ_{\rm e}(Δ)$, such that the above result holds for graphs $G$ with ${δ(G) \geq (δ_{\rm e}(Δ) + γ)n}$. We show that $δ_{\rm e}(Δ) \leq (2Δ-1)/2Δ$, and further conjecture that $δ_{\rm e}(Δ)$ equals $Δ/(Δ+1)$, which matches the minimum degree condition on $G$ in the Bollobás-Eldridge-Catlin Conjecture. A main tool in our proof is a vertex-spread version of the blow-up lemma of Allen, Böttcher, Hàn, Kohayakawa, and Person, which we believe to be of independent interest.

Some Turán-type results for signless Laplacian spectral radius
Published • View Publication • BIB
Half a century ago, Bollobás and Erdős [Bull. London Math. Soc. 5 (1973)] proved that every $n$-vertex graph $G$ with $e(G)\ge (1- \frac{1}{k} + \varepsilon )\frac{n^2}{2}$ edges contains a blowup $K_{k+1}[t]$ with $t=Ω_{k,\varepsilon}(\log n)$. A well-known theorem of Nikiforov [Combin. Probab. Comput. 18 (3) (2009)] asserts that if $G$ is an $n$-vertex graph with adjacency spectral radius $λ(G)\ge (1- \frac{1}{k} + \varepsilon)n$, then $G$ contains a blowup $K_{k+1}[t]$ with $t=Ω_{k,\varepsilon}(\log n)$. This gives a spectral version of the Bollobás--Erdős theorem. In this paper, we systematically explore variants of Nikiforov's result in terms of the signless Laplacian spectral radius, extending the supersaturation, blowup of cliques and the stability results.

Oriented Diameter of Mixed Graphs with Given Maximum Undirected Degree
In 2018, Dankelmann, Gao, and Surmacs [J. Graph Theory, 88(1): 5--17, 2018] established sharp bounds on the oriented diameter of a bridgeless undirected graph and a bridgeless undirected bipartite graph in terms of vertex degree. In this paper, we extend these results to \emph{mixed graphs}, which contain both directed and undirected edges. Let the \emph{undirected degree} $d^*_G(x)$ of a vertex $x \in V(G)$ be the number of its incident undirected edges in a mixed graph $G$ of order $n$, and let the \emph{maximum undirected degree} be $Δ^*(G) = \max\{d^*_G(v) : v \in V(G)\}$. We prove that \begin{align*} \text{(1)}\quad & \overrightarrow{\mathrm{diam}}(G) \leq n - Δ^* + 3 && \text{if $G$ is undirected, or contains a vertex $u$ with $d^*_G(u) = Δ^*$} \\ & && \text{and $d^+_G(u) + d^-_G(u) \geq 2$, or $Δ^* = 5$ and $d^+_G(u) + d^-_G(u) = 1$;} \\ \text{(2)}\quad & \overrightarrow{\mathrm{diam}}(G) \leq n - Δ^* + 4 && \text{otherwise}. \end{align*} We also establish bounds for mixed bipartite graphs. If $G$ is a bridgeless mixed bipartite graph with partite sets $A$ and $B$, and $u \in B$, then \begin{align*} \text{(1)}\quad & \overrightarrow{\mathrm{diam}}(G) \leq 2(|A| - d(u)) + 7 && \text{if $G$ is undirected;\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ } \\ \text{(2)}\quad & \overrightarrow{\mathrm{diam}}(G) \leq 2(|A| - d^*(u)) + 8 && \text{if $d^+_G(u) + d^-_G(u) \geq 2$;} \\ \text{(3)}\quad & \overrightarrow{\mathrm{diam}}(G) \leq 2(|A| - d^*(u)) + 10 && \text{otherwise}. \end{align*} All of the above bounds are sharp, except possibly the last one.

Semisimple algebras related to immaculate tableaux
Given a direct sum $A$ of full matrix algebras, if there is a combinatorial interpretation associated with both the dimension of $A$ and the dimensions of the irreducible $A$-modules, then this can be thought of as providing an analogue of the famous Frobenius-Young identity $n! = \sum_{λ\vdash n} ( f^λ )^{2}$ derived from the semisimple structure of the symmetric group algebra $\mathbb{C}S_{n}$, letting $f^λ$ denote the number of Young tableaux of partition shape $λ\vdash n$. By letting $g^α$ denote the number of standard immaculate tableaux of composition shape $α\vDash n$, we construct an algebra $\mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n}$ with a semisimple structure such that $\dim \mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n} = \sum_{α\vDash n} (g^α)^{2}$ and such that $\mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n} $ contains an isomorphic copy of $\mathbb{C}S_{n}$. We bijectively prove a recurrence for $\dim \mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n}$ so as to construct a basis of $\mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n}$ indexed by permutation-like objects that we refer to as immacutations. We form a basis $\mathcal{B}_{n}$ of $\mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n}$ such that $\mathbb{C} \mathcal{B}_n$ has the structure of a monoid algebra in such a way so that $\mathcal{B}_n$ is closed under the multiplicative operation of $\mathbb{C} \mathcal{I}_n$, yielding a monoid structure on the set of order-$n$ immacutations.
The Local Structure Theorem for Graph Minors with Finite Index
The Local Structure Theorem (LST) for graph minors roughly states that every $H$-minor free graph $G$ that contains a sufficiently large wall $W$, there is a set of few vertices $A$ such that, upon removing $A$, the resulting graph $G':=G - A$ admits an "almost embedding" $δ$ into a surface $Σ$ in which $H$ does not embed. By almost embedding, we mean that there exists a hypergraph $\mathcal{H}$ whose vertex set is a subset of the vertex set of $G$ and an embedding of $\mathcal{H}$ in $Σ$ such that 1) the drawing of each hyperedge of $\mathcal{H}$ corresponds to a cell of $δ$, 2) the boundary of each cell intersects only the vertices of the corresponding hyperedge, and 3) all remaining vertices and edges of $G'$ are drawn in the interior of cells. The cells corresponding to hyperedges of arity at least $4$, called vortices, are few in number and have small "depth", while a "large" part of the wall $W$ is drawn outside the vortices and is "grounded" in the embedding $δ$. Now suppose that the subgraphs drawn inside each of the non-vortex cells are equipped with some finite index, i.e., each such cell is assigned a color from a finite set. We prove a version of the LST in which the set $C$ of colors assigned to the non-vortex cells exhibits "large" bidimensionality: The graph $G'$ contains a minor model of a large grid $Γ$ where each bag corresponding to a vertex $v$ of $Γ$, contains the subgraph drawn within a cell carrying color $α$, for every color $α\in C$. Moreover, the grid $Γ$ can be chosen in a way that is "well-connected" to the original wall $W$.

Counting occurrences of a pattern in a binary word
Enumerating the number of times one word occurs in another is a much-studied combinatorial subject. By utilizing a method that we call ``lexicographic extreme referencing'', we provide a formula for computing occurrences of one binary word in another. We then study $B_{n,p}(k)$, the number of binary words of length $n$ containing a given word $p$ exactly $k$ times. For this purpose, we first use lexicographic extreme referencing to provide an algorithm for constructing all words $w$ that contain a given word $p$. Afterward, we give a modified version of this algorithm for constructing the subset of binary words that are ``primitive'' with respect to $p$, and we discuss approaches for finding $B_{n,p}(k)$ via primitive words.
