K-Arc-Strong Orientations Of Semicomplete Digraphs
Results by Jackson and Frank imply that every 2k-arc-strong digraph D contains a spanning k-arc-strong oriented subdigraph. This is best possible, even for very dense digraphs. A digraph is semicomplete if at least one of the arcs xy,yx is present for every pair of distinct vertices x,y. A tournament has exactly one of xy,yx for every such pair. Clearly every semicomplete digraph D contains a spanning tournament T which is obtained by deleting one arc from every 2-cycle of D. We prove that every (2k-1)-arc-strong semicomplete digraph on at least 2k+1 vertices contains a spanning k-arc-strong tournament. Both bounds 2k-1 and 2k+1 are best possible. The proof uses Frank's general orientation theorem for graphs as well as counting arguments based on the semicomplete structure.

Highly connected spanning oriented subdigraphs in generalizations of semicomplete digraphs
Let $k$ be a positive integer. Jackson and Thomassen conjectured in 1989 that there exists an integer function $f(k)$ such that every $f(k)$-strong digraph admits a spanning $k$-strong oriented subdigraph. They even conjectured that one can take $f(k)=2k$ [Ann. N. Y. Acad. Sci. 555 (1989) 402-412]. Already the existence of $f(2)$ is open for general digraphs. Thomassen proved that $f(2)=4$ for symmetric digraphs. For general $k$, the existence of $f(k)$ was only known for locally semicomplete digraphs and quasi-transitive digraphs. Guo proved that every ${(3k-2)}$-strong locally semicomplete digraph contains a spanning $k$-strong local tournament [Discrete Appl. Math. 79 (1997) 119--125]. One can deduce from Guo's result that we have $f(k)\leq 3k-2$ for quasi-transitive digraphs. In this paper, we prove the existence of $f(k)$ for two subclasses of the semicomplete multipartite digraphs, namely extended semicomplete digraphs and semicomplete split digraphs. We prove that every $(4k+1)$-strong extended semicomplete digraph contains a spanning $k$-strong oriented subdigraph and every $5k$-strong semicomplete split digraph contains a spanning $k$-strong oriented subdigraph. The first result implies that for the large class of digraphs which can be obtained from some semicomplete digraph $S$ on at least 3 vertices by substituting arbitrary digraphs for each vertex of $S$ we also have $f(k)\leq 4k+1$.

On totally synchronizing graphs
A coloring of a finite $k$-out directed graph $G$ is viewed as a deterministic complete automaton with state set $V(G)$. The graph $G$ is called \emph{totally synchronizing} if every coloring is synchronizing. We prove that total synchronization imposes strong restrictions on symmetry: if $G$ is strongly connected and totally synchronizing, then $Aut(G)$ contains no semiregular element; in particular, if $|Aut(G)|$ is divisible by a prime $p>k$, then $G$ is not totally synchronizing. We then give general constructions of strongly connected $k$-out graphs with prescribed quotients and prescribed automorphism group that are \emph{not} totally synchronizing. On the quotient side, we relate graph congruences to strong lumpability of the uniform random walk on $G$ and introduce \emph{totally simple} graphs, characterized by the absence of nontrivial congruences. In this setting we obtain a Perron--Frobenius sufficient condition for total synchronization: a strongly connected non-lumpable graph whose integer Perron--Frobenius eigenvector admits at most one nontrivial equipartition is totally synchronizing. Finally, we show that deciding whether a primitive $k$-out graph admits a non-synchronizing coloring is NP-complete, resolving an open problem of Gusev--Szykuła, and prove NP-completeness of deciding whether a graph admits a nontrivial Eulerian lumping.
Venn diagrams as forbidden hypergraph traces
We study the maximum size of a set system that contains no $k$-Venn diagram, denoted by $VD_k$, as a trace. For every fixed $k\ge 3$, we prove $\text{ex}_{tr}(n,VD_k)=O_k(n^{2^k-2k+1})$, improving the direct Sauer-Shelah bound $O_k(n^{2^k-1})$. In particular, for $k=4$ the exponent decreases from $15$ to $9$. The proof starts from the theorem of Keevash, Leader, Long and Wagner for $VD_3$ and uses induction on $k$ in which two new Venn regions are forced for free at each added edge. We also record lower-bound constructions for Venn diagrams in fixed uniformity, explicit bounds for the $4$-uniform $3$-Venn problem, and a fixed uniformity trace result for the loose triangle.

Supersaturation in Nosal graphs: Triangles and books
In this paper, we use the spectral surplus $λ(G) - \sqrt{m}$ to measure how far $G$ lies above the Nosal threshold, and prove the following edge-spectral supersaturation results for triangles and books. (a) Every graph $G$ with $m\ge 3$ edges and $λ(G) \ge 1 + \sqrt{m-2}$ contains at least $m-2$ triangles, with equality if and only if $G = K_3 \vee \tfrac{m-3}{3} K_1$. This can be viewed as the third-layer supersaturation in the jump phenomenon, after the first layer $t(G) \ge \lfloor \tfrac{1}{2}(\sqrt{m}-1) \rfloor$ proved by Ning and Zhai, and the second layer $t(G) \ge \tfrac{m-1}{2}$ by Zhang and Zhai. (b) Every $m$-edge graph $G$ satisfies $t(G) \ge m\bigl(λ- \sqrt{m}\,\bigr)$, with equality if and only if $G$ is complete bipartite. Consequently, $λ(G) \ge \sqrt{m} + q$ forces $t(G) > q m$ for every real $q > 0$. This is an edge-spectral counterpart of the Lovász--Simonovits theorem, and it improves the Bollobás--Nikiforov bound $t(G) \ge \tfrac13 λ(λ^2 - m)$ in the range $\sqrt m \le λ(G) \le 1.3\sqrt m $. (c) Every $m$-edge Nosal graph $G$ contains a book of size greater than $\tfrac14 \sqrt{m}$. This improves two recent results on the booksize constant: $\tfrac{1}{24}$ proved by Li, Liu and Zhang, and $\tfrac19$ by Zhai, Li and Lou. This narrows the gap toward the conjectured optimal constant $\tfrac13$. (d) Every $m$-edge Nosal graph $G$ contains at least $\bigl(\tfrac{1}{8} - o(1)\bigr) m$ copies of the kite $C_4^+=B_2$, and the constant $\tfrac18$ is best possible. This determines the sharp asymptotic constant for counting $C_4^+$ and strengthens the $Ω(m)$ bound of Li, Liu and Zhang.

Ideal Gårding polynomials
We introduce ideal Gårding polynomials, a convexity-enhanced subclass of Gårding polynomials whose Gårding components are recursively convex under partial differentiation. This class strictly contains real stable polynomials and, after translation and homogenization, lies in the Lorentzian class. Our main result is that ideal Gårding polynomials still admit a robust structure theory despite this additional convexity: they are preserved under polarization, satisfy natural closure properties, and support a linear preserver theory. A key contribution of this paper is a universal model for univariate Gårding polynomials, described by monotone root sequences and equivalently by volume polynomials of Pitman--Stanley polytopes. We establish quotient concavity, and Newton--Maclaurin type inequalities, which leads to the polarization theorem, and suggests further connections with convex geometry and Lorentzian polynomials.

Bounded VC-dimension implies the Erdős--Rado sunflower conjecture
The Erdős--Rado sunflower conjecture asserts that, for every fixed integer $r\ge 3$, there is a constant $K(r)$ such that every $\ell$-uniform family with more than $K(r)^{\ell}$ members contains an $r$-sunflower. We prove this conjecture for families of bounded VC-dimension.
Classes of phylogenetic networks that are robust to root placement
Standard phylogenetic reconstruction techniques often yield unrooted phylogenetic networks; these are subsequently rooted to infer evolutionary history. A common problem in this process is to determine the structural classes to which the resulting network will belong. In this paper, we investigate unrooted networks in which the choice of any root results in a valid rooted phylogenetic network, a property we define as {\em robustly orientable}. We then establish a strict structural condition for this class, specifically, that an unrooted network is robustly orientable if and only if it contains no sink components. We also show that if an unrooted network is level-$2$ or less, or if it is tree-based, then it is robustly orientable. Furthermore, we define an unrooted network to be {\em robustly class $\mathcal C$} if the choice of any root results in a network belonging to class $\mathcal C$. We demonstrate that an unrooted network is robustly tree-child or robustly stack-free if and only if it is level-$1$ or less. Finally, we show that a phylogenetic network is robustly normal if and only if it is a phylogenetic tree.

Cremona invariance of filtered Varchenko--Gelfand algebras
We prove that the filtered Varchenko--Gelfand algebra is invariant under a natural Cremona operation on a class of real hyperplane arrangements. Namely, suppose that an arrangement contains all coordinate hyperplanes and that every remaining defining form is supported on two coordinates. Swapping the two coefficients in each such form produces its Cremona transform. Coordinatewise inversion gives a chamber bijection and an isomorphism of the corresponding filtered Varchenko--Gelfand algebras over every commutative coefficient ring. As an application, we exhibit two arrangements of eight central planes in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with isomorphic filtered Varchenko--Gelfand algebras but non-isomorphic tope graphs. This disproves a conjecture of Yagi--Yoshinaga on reconstructing tope graphs from filtered Varchenko--Gelfand algebras.
On the Erdős-Rogers function
We show that the Erdős-Rogers function $f_{s,s+1}(n)$ satisfies $$f_{s,s+1}(n) = Θ( \sqrt{n \log n} )$$ for every $s \ge 2$. More precisely, we construct a $K_{s+1}$-free graph on $n$ vertices in which every set of at least $C(s)\sqrt{n \log n}$ vertices contains a copy of $K_s$ for some constant $C(s)$, which implies the upper bound. The matching lower bound follows from a theorem of Joret, Micek, Reed and Smid on the clique chromatic number of a graph.
Cayley Graphs Of Order $pqrs$ Are Hamiltonian
Assume $ G $ is a finite group with order $ |G| = pqrs $, where $ p $, $ q $, $ r $, and $ s $ are distinct prime numbers. We prove that every connected Cayley graph of $ G $ contains a hamiltonian cycle. Our result drops all restrictions of all previously known results on hamiltonian cycles in Cayley graphs of groups of order $pqrs$.

Efficient Hamilton covers and linear arboricity of random graphs
A Hamilton cover of a graph is a collection of Hamilton cycles whose union contains all edges. Since each Hamilton cycle covers two edges at every vertex, every Hamilton cover has size at least $\lceil Δ(G)/2\rceil$. We prove that this lower bound is tight for binomial random graphs $G(n,p)$ throughout the widest possible range of edge probabilities: if $ω(n)\to\infty$ and \[ \frac{\log n+\log\log n+ω(n)}{n} \le p=p(n) \le 1-\frac{ω(n)}{n^{2}}, \] then $G\sim G(n,p)$ with high probability has a Hamilton cover of size $\left\lceil \frac{Δ(G)}{2}\right\rceil. $ The main new contribution is the sparse regime near the Hamiltonicity threshold, where we prove a conjecture of Draganić, Glock, Munhá Correia and Sudakov. Our proof develops constructive tools for decomposing such graphs into controlled forest systems and extending them, using reserved pseudorandom structure, into Hamilton cycles. We also prove the corresponding hitting-time result for the random graph process, answering a question of Hefetz, Kühn, Lapinskas and Osthus. Finally, we use our methods to show that $G\sim G(n,p)$ with high probability satisfies the celebrated Linear arboricity conjecture for every $p\leq 1$.

The order of long rainbow arithmetic progressions
Let $T_k$ be the minimum positive integer $t$ such that, for every positive integer $n$, every equinumerous $t$-coloring of $[tn]$ contains a rainbow $k$-term arithmetic progression. Jungić, Licht, Mahdian, Nešetřil and Radoičić conjectured that $T_k=Θ(k^2)$, while Conlon, Fox and Sudakov proved that $T_k=O(k^2\log k)$. We prove the matching lower bound $T_k=Ω(k^2\log k)$, and hence $T_k=Θ(k^2\log k)$.

Products of simplices are canonically Ramsey
A set of points $C \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ is called canonically Ramsey if there is some set of points $S\subset \mathbb{R}^{n'}$ such that any colouring of $S$, using any number of colours, must contain either a monochromatic copy of $C$ or a rainbow copy of $C$. Mao, Ozeki, and Wang introduced this notion, showing that 30-60-90 triangles are canonically Ramsey. Since then, various other canonically Ramsey configurations have been identified. The author showed that cuboids are canonically Ramsey, while Ge, Shu, Xu, and Yu recently showed that simplices are canonically Ramsey. We extend both of these results, proving that all products of simplices are canonically Ramsey.

An Improved Upper Bound on the Threshold Bias of the Oriented-cycle Game
Published in The Electronic Journal of Combinatorics 33(3) (2026), #P3.59 • View Publication • BIB
We study the $b$-biased Oriented-cycle game where two players, OMaker and OBreaker, take turns directing the edges of $K_n$ (the complete graph on $n$ vertices). In each round, OMaker directs one previously undirected edge followed by OBreaker directing between one and $b$ previously undirected edges. The game ends once all edges have been directed, and OMaker wins if and only if the resulting tournament contains a directed cycle. Bollobás and Szabó asked the following question: what is the largest value of the bias $b$ for which OMaker has a winning strategy? Ben-Eliezer, Krivelevich and Sudakov proved that OMaker has a winning strategy for $b \leq n/2 - 2$. In the other direction, Clemens and Liebenau proved that OBreaker has a winning strategy for $b \geq 5n/6+2$. Inspired by their approach, we propose a significantly stronger strategy for OBreaker which we prove to be winning for $b \geq 0.7841n + O(1)$.
Measures and generalizations of dual Littlewood identities
Published in Forum Math. Sigma 14 (2026), e106, 1-20 • View Publication • BIB
We introduce three families of vectors $|\underlineλ^{so}\rangle$, $|\underlineλ^{sp}\rangle$ and $|\underlineλ^{o}\rangle$ parametrized by partitions in the Fock space by using products of adjoint vertex operators. We show that the quotient space of the dual vacuum vector is spanned by the partition vectors indexed by a special family of partitions. The partition-indexed vectors also help us to derive the dual Littlewood identities of types B, C, and D in a new manner associated to the special family of partitions. As an application, we obtain a new free fermionic construction to show that the measures related to dual Littlewood identities introduced by Rains \cite[Section 7]{Rai2000} and Betea \cite[Section 3]{Be2020} are determinantal with repect to some explicit correlation kernels. Furthermore we establish a number of generalized Littlewood identities summed over certain restricted partitions by computing the inner products with elements indexed by one-column partitions {or generalized partitions $(0^m)$} in the complete dual Fock space. {In particular, for each positive integer $n$, we obtain generalized Littlewood identities for $(-n)$-asymmetric partitions. We show that these generalized Littlewood identities contain several well-known Littlewood-type identities as special cases. Consequently we also give a new proof of the generalized Littlewood identity \cite[(5.25)]{LSV2008} for Lie superalgebras. } %We also produce infinite generalized Littlewood identities by calculating the inner products between these elements and some elements indexed by one-column partitions in the complete dual Fock space.
Periodicities in the Riordan arrays of polynomials over finite fields
We study periodicity properties of the 2-D $\bigl(p_1(t)/p_2(t),\, tp_3(t)\bigr)$ and 3-D $\bigl(p_1(t)/p_2(t),\, tp_3(t),\, p_4(t)\bigr)$ Riordan arrays over a finite field ${\mathbb F}_q$, where each $p_i(t)$ is a polynomial with $p_i(0)\neq 0$. We show that the columns of the 2-D Riordan array are eventually periodic sequences, where a circulant matrix generated by the coefficients of $p_3(t)$ determines the behavior of this periodicity as the column index grows indefinitely. Furthermore, we prove that the preperiodic column partial sums of the 2-D array are periodic, and present a family of the Riordan arrays for which such sequences of partial sums are identically zero. We also show that the layers of the 3-D Riordan array contain periodic orbits related to each other via powers of a circulant matrix generated by the coefficients of $p_4(t)$.

The exact minimum total degree threshold for the square of a Hamilton cycle in digraphs
The Pósa-Seymour conjecture establishes the minimum degree threshold required to guarantee the presence of the $k$th power of a Hamilton cycle in a graph. Following numerous partial results, Komlós, Sárközy, and Szemerédi confirmed the conjecture holds for all sufficiently large graphs. Treglown later conjectured the analogous minimum semi-degree threshold for forcing the $k$th power of a Hamilton cycle in a digraph. Subsequently, DeBiasio et al. proposed a conjecture on the minimum total degree threshold for the same problem. In this paper we settle the conjecture of DeBiasio et al. for $k=2$. Specifically, we prove that every sufficiently large $n$-vertex digraph with minimum total degree at least $8n/5-c$ contains the square of a Hamilton cycle, where $c=2$ if $n\equiv2,4\pmod 5$, and $c=1$ otherwise.

Clique spectral extremal problem on disjoint color-critical graphs
For a given graph $F$, a graph $G$ is called $F$-free if it does not contain $F$ as a subgraph. A graph is color-critical if deleting one of its edges decreases its chromatic number. Let $F_1, F_2, \cdots, F_t$ be $t$ disjoint color-critical graphs with chromatic number $r+1$. For $2 \leq s \leq r$ and sufficiently large $n$, we determine the unique extremal graph with the maximum $s$-clique spectral radius among all $n$-vertex $\bigcup_{i=1}^t F_i$-free graphs.
Antipodal paths in covers of spheres
In this note we show that if the sphere $\mathbb{S}^n$ is covered by $k$ open sets with $n \geq 2k-2$, then one of these sets contains a path with antipodal endpoints. This is best possible in the sense that the statement fails for $n < 2k-2$. The result can be seen as a spherical analogue of a well-known conjecture of Norine on edge-colourings of the discrete hypercube.
