Multigraded Regularity of the Complete Flag Variety
We study the multigraded regularity of the complete flag variety under the Plücker embedding. In particular, we prove inductive relationships about the regularity regions, and we provide some inner and outer bounds on the regions.

Occupation Ideals and Parikh Images in Markov Support Dynamics
We introduce a commutative-algebraic framework for studying occupation patterns in directed support graphs associated with discrete-time Markov chains. Given an initial state, the support graph determines a regular language whose words are the admissible state trajectories. Applying the Parikh map, each trajectory is represented by its occupation vector, recording the number of visits to each state. Equivalently, each trajectory defines a monomial whose exponents are its occupation numbers. For each time $n$, we associate a monomial ideal generated by the Parikh monomials of all admissible trajectories of length $n$. The minimal generators of this ideal encode the distinct occupation patterns realized at that time. This construction embeds occupation patterns into combinatorial commutative algebra and separates three levels of support complexity: reachability growth, trajectory growth, and occupation-pattern growth. The framework provides an algebraic and combinatorial layer attached to the directed support structure of a Markov chain. It connects regular languages, Parikh images, monomial ideals, symbolic dynamics, and support graphs. Examples illustrate how occupation ideals reflect branching, recurrence, transience, and local oscillation in the underlying graph.

On Ziegler pairs of line arrangements: from non-existence to abundance
We study Ziegler pairs of line arrangements from both numerical and homological perspectives. First, we show that for arrangements of $d<9$ lines the intersection lattice determines the exponent data considered here. Then we list six distinct Ziegler pair with $d=10$. In particular, we construct higher-degree examples with the same intersection lattice, the same minimal degree of a Jacobian relation, and the same Hilbert function of the Milnor algebra, but with different minimal graded free resolutions.
Homology of Vietoris-Rips complexes of hypercube graphs via group actions
The Vietoris-Rips complex of a metric space is the simplicial complex whose faces are the subsets of points with pairwise distance bounded above by a given scale $r$. In this paper, we study Vietoris-Rips complexes on the vertex set of the $n$-dimensional hypercube equipped with the Hamming distance. These complexes are stable under the action of the automorphism group of the hypercube graph, also known as the hyperoctahedral group, which therefore acts on their homology groups. Our results completely describe the decomposition of these homology groups into irreducible representations of the hyperoctahedral group at scales $r\leqslant 3$ and $r=n-1$.

On monomial resonance
This note addresses the resonance of monomial subspaces. In the first part, we completely characterize the cases where the Fitting scheme structure of the resonance associated with a monomial subspace is reduced, and we further investigate the primary decomposition of the corresponding Fitting ideal. The second part focuses on non-monomial subspaces having the resonance of a monomial subspace.

On monoids up to symmetry
Published in Journal of Pure and Applied Algebra 230 (2026), no. 4, 108243 • View Publication • BIB
We study monoids in an infinite-dimensional setting that are invariant under the action of the infinite symmetric group Sym. Our main result establishes a local--global principle characterizing equivariant finite generation for arbitrary Sym-invariant monoids, extending earlier results that required additional assumptions. We further analyze local--global phenomena for other fundamental properties, including positivity, normality, seminormality, and simplicity. In addition, we obtain structural results for symmetric monoids, including characterizations of positivity and non-positivity, a description of their groups of units, and explicit formulas for the ranks of local symmetric monoids and stabilizing Sym-invariant chains.

Duality of monoids up to symmetry
We study duality for monoids in an infinite-dimensional setting that are invariant under the action of the infinite symmetric group Sym. Our main result is an equivariant Minkowski--Weyl theorem for monoids. More precisely, we analyze the evolution of dual monoids along stabilizing Sym-invariant chains and describe the eventual behavior of their equivariant Hilbert bases. In addition, we develop a systematic study of structural properties of dual symmetric monoids, including a characterization of the duals of positive and non-positive monoids.
Trivariate Splines on Fans of Hyperplane Arrangements and Koszul Homology
We study the space of splines $\mathcal{S}^{\mathbf{r}}(Σ^\mathscr{A})$ where ${\mathbf{r}}$ denotes a smoothness distribution and $Σ^\mathscr{A}$ is the fan of a central hyperplane arrangement $\mathscr{A}$ in $\mathbb{R}^3$. This is the first step in the analysis of splines on three-dimensional cross-cut partitions, which naturally generalize planar cross-cut partitions. We show that the Hilbert function of $\mathcal{S}^{\mathbf{r}}(Σ^\mathscr{A})$ is bounded by an expression that involves the dimensions of specific Koszul homology modules constructed from the defining equations of the hyperplane arrangement $\mathscr{A}$ and the smoothness distribution function. By exploiting this connection with Koszul homology, we are able to: 1) compute the dimension of the spline space in high degrees, 2) compute all values of the dimension of the spline space if $\mathscr{A}$ is generic with five or fewer hyperplanes, and 3) compute the Hilbert function of the spline space if $\mathscr{A}$ is a generic arrangement with sufficiently many hyperplanes and ${\mathbf{r}}$ is a constant distribution. As an application of our methods, we compute $\dim \mathcal{S}^0_d(Σ^\mathscr{A})$ and $\dim \mathcal{S}^1_d(Σ^\mathscr{A})$ for all values of $d$ when $\mathscr{A}$ is a generic arrangement.

Residue ideals of hyperplane arrangements
In this paper, we introduce a new idea to study modules of logarithmic differential forms of hyperplane arrangements, which we call residue ideals. We first establish basic properties of these ideals, including their radicals and primary decompositions, and obtain applications for freeness of restrictions of arrangements. Then we apply these ideals to the study of modules of logarithmic differential $1$-forms for graphic arrangements. We give an explicit generating set for these modules and find a new connection to cover ideals of graphs studied in combinatorial commutative algebra. As a consequence we establish several new connections between arrangement theory and Stanley--Reisner theory.
Higher cotangent cohomology for Stanley-Reisner rings
Inspired by work of Altmann and Christophersen, we study the graded pieces of the cotangent cohomology $T^i_{S_{\mathcal{K}}}$, $i\geq 3$ of the Stanley-Reisner ring $S_{\mathcal{K}}$ associated to a simplicial complex $\mathcal{K}$. We prove a localization formula allowing one to reduce to the case of negative weights. Our results give a complete description of $T^3$ and $T^4$ in terms of the topology of $\mathcal{K}$ whenever $\mathcal{K}$ is a flag complex. As an application, we give a sufficient criterion for the vanishing of $T^3$ for simplicial spheres, classify two-spheres that have vanishing $T^3$, and show that the boundary complex of the dual associahedron has vanishing $T^3$. Our results make use of the arborescent resolutions considered by Hancharuk, Laurent-Gengoux, and Strobl. We give an alternative and self-contained treatment of these resolutions that may be of independent interest.
The Gröbner Version of White's Conjecture is False
We show that the toric ideal of the Fano matroid polytope does not have a quadratic Gröbner basis. This resolves in the negative a strong version of White's conjecture from matroid theory. This result was found independently by De Loera, Ferroni, Morales, and Rambau. Our approach is based on a new characterization of regular unimodular flag triangulations, which reduces the problem to an instance of SMT involving boolean and real variables. We then use an SMT solver to prove unsatisfiability. Using this approach, we also show that all 8-element matroids which do not have the Fano matroid or its dual as a minor, with the possible exception of the matroid $T_8$, have toric ideals which admit quadratic Gröbner bases.
There are matroid toric ideals without quadratic Gröbner bases
Our paper shows that if a matroid contains the Fano plane or its dual as a minor, then its toric ideal does not have any quadratic Gröbner basis. More than 25 years ago, Hibi, Herzog, and Sturmfels established a direct connection between the existence of quadratic Gröbner bases and regular unimodular flag triangulations. Our paper solves a famous question posed by Herzog and Hibi on a polyhedral reformulation for the existence of quadratic Gröbner bases: we show that the base polytopes of the Fano plane and its dual do not have regular unimodular flag triangulations which implies the main result on Gröbner bases. Our proof relies on several novel tools: a lemma that connects the $1$-skeleton of a lattice polytope to the lattice points in its dilations, an encoding with Boolean formulas and SAT solvers, and symmetry-breaking arguments.
Enumeration of certain subsets of uprooted trees and spherical parking functions
Spherical $G$-parking functions are a distinguished subset of standard monomials, arising from the skeleton ideals of the $G$-parking function ideal. Explicit spherical $G$-parking function enumeration formulas are known only in a few classes of graphs. In this paper, we consider a family of graphs $\Gl$ ($1\leq \ell \leq n-2$), obtained from the complete bipartite $K_{n+1}$ by deleting the $\ell$ edges joining vertex $1$ to the vertices in $F_\ell= \{n-\ell+1, \ldots, n\}$. The uprooted spanning trees of $\Gl-\{0\}$ are counted by the set $\UnFl$ of uprooted trees with the vertex set $[n]$ in which vertex $1$ is not adjacent to any vertex in $F_\ell$, and we establish that $|\UnFl| = (n-1)^{n-\ell-2}(n-2)^{\ell}(n-\ell-1).$ We derive this formula combinatorially and independently recover it as an application of the matrix tree theorem, obtaining some combinatorial identities as consequences. Finally, we determine the number of spherical $\Gl$-parking functions as $|\SPF(\Gl)| = (n-1)^{n-3}(n-\ell-1)^2.$

Deformation Theory and Torus-Fixed Geometry of the Nested Hilbert Scheme of Points
In this thesis, we study the nested Hilbert scheme ((\mathbb{A}^2)^{[n,n+1]}=\mathrm{Hilb}^{n,n+1}(\mathbb{A}^2)) from a combination of deformation theory, torus actions, and Young diagram combinatorics. We first recall the scheme theory and functor basics needed to define Hilbert schemes. We then use a classic result on first-order deformations to identify (T_I(\mathbb{A}^2)^{[n]}\cong \mathrm{Hom}*{\mathbb{C}[x,y]}(I,\mathbb{C}[x,y]/I)). For a nested pair (I\subset J), with (\dim*{\mathbb{C}}\mathbb{C}[x,y]/I=n+1) and (\dim_{\mathbb{C}}\mathbb{C}[x,y]/J=n), the tangent space becomes a compatibility kernel (T_{(I,J)}(\mathbb{A}^2)^{[n,n+1]}\cong \ker(\mathrm{Hom}(I,R/I)\oplus \mathrm{Hom}(J,R/J)\to \mathrm{Hom}(I,R/J))). The torus-fixed points are indexed by a partition (λ\vdash n+1) together with a removable corner (c) of its Young diagram. This corner is not only combinatorial, but also the monomial form of a one dimensional socle direction in (R/I_λ). The blow-up map to ((\mathbb{A}^2)^{[n]}\times \mathbb{A}^2) has fibres given by projective spaces of one-dimensional quotients of (J/\mathfrak m_pJ), whose torus-fixed points are addable boxes of the smaller diagram. These two local fibres explain how the universal family, the blow-up geometry, and Young diagram combinatorics come together in the study of the local geometry of the nested Hilbert scheme of points. Finally, we derive the tangent weight formula at a fixed point ((I_λ,I_{λ\setminus c})) in the torus convention used in the thesis. Using the standard arrow basis, we show in the proof how the arm-leg weights are modified by the compatibility kernel through a shortening rule determined by (c). A Macaulay2 verification computes the compatibility kernel from monomial syzygies and checks the weight formula for all partitions of size at most (16).

$\textbf{k}$-neighborhood ideals of graphs
In this paper, we introduce and investigate the $\textbf{k}$-neighborhood ideal of a graph, a natural generalization of the closed neighborhood ideal. Let $G$ be a simple graph on the vertex set $[n]$, and let $S=K[x_1,\dots,x_n]$ be the polynomial ring over a field $K$. For a vector $\textbf{k}=(k_1,\ldots,k_n)\in \mathbb{N}^n$ satisfying $1\leq k_i\leq \textrm{deg}_G(i)+1$ for all $i$, the $\textbf{k}$-neighborhood ideal of $G$ is defined as the squarefree monomial ideal $$\textrm{NI}_{\textbf{k}}(G)=\sum_{i=1}^n\, (\textbf{x}_W:\, W\subseteq N_G[i],\, |W|=k_i)$$ of $S$, where $\textbf{x}_W=\prod_{i\in W} x_i$. We study homological invariants and properties of $\textrm{NI}_{\textbf{k}}(G)$ focusing on its Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity, projective dimension and Cohen-Macaulayness. Special attention is devoted to the case where the vector ${\textbf{k}}$ is the degree-vector of the graph, i.e., $k_i=\textrm{deg}_G(i)$ for all vertices $i$, and to the case where $\textrm{NI}_{\textbf{k}}(G)$ coincides with the edge ideal of a graph. In these settings, we provide combinatorial characterizations and bounds for the regularity and projective dimension of $\textrm{NI}_{\textbf{k}}(G)$ for several classes of graphs, and further investigate the Cohen-Macaulay property of these ideals.

Polyhedral models for K-theory of toric and flag varieties
In 1992, Pukhlikov and Khovanskii provided a description of the cohomology ring of toric variety as a quotient of the ring of differential operators on spaces of virtual polytopes. Later Kaveh generalized this construction to the case of cohomology rings for full flag varieties. In this paper we extend Pukhlikov-Khovanskii type presentation to the case of K-theory of toric and flag varieties. First, we study the Frobenius algebras obtained as quotients of the group algebra of free abelian group (possibly of infinite rank). Then we apply this construction to define a K-ring associated to a linear family of (virtual) polytopes. We study in detail two examples of such families: the family of integer (virtual) polytopes with a fixed normal fan and the family of (virtual) Gelfand-Zetlin polytopes. We show that the K-theory of toric and flag varieties can be realized as K-rings of the above families and use this to get natural set of relations in the above K-rings. Further, we describe the classes of structure sheaves of toric orbit closures and Schubert varieties in type A flag varieties. Finally, we show that our results also hold true in T-equivariant setting.

Ideals defining components of two-row Springer fibers
Springer fibers are subvarieties of the flag variety parameterized by nilpotent matrices. They are central objects of study in geometry representation theory. This paper focuses on two-row Springer fibers, those corresponding to nilpotent matrices with two Jordan blocks. Irreducible components of two-row Springer fibers are in bijection with two-row standard Young tableaux and also with noncrossing matchings. Inspired by the combinatorial commutative algebra of matrix Schubert varieties, we define a polynomial ideal for each noncrossing matching and prove that these ideals define the corresponding components of the Springer fiber. Our proofs leverage geometric descriptions of Springer fibers established by Fung, Stroppel--Webster, Fresse, and Goldwasser--Nadeem--Sun--Tymoczko. Using these ideals to compute examples, we give two conjectural formulas for the cohomology class of each component of a two-row Springer fiber. We apply commutative algebra techniques to prove these conjectures for a specific family of two-row tableaux.

A Complete Classification of 2-Linear Neighborhood Complexes
The neighborhood complex $N(G)$ and the dominance complex $D(G)$ are fundamental simplicial complexes associated with a graph $G$. We characterize precisely when the Stanley-Reisner ring $k[N(G)]$ admits a $2$-linear resolution, thereby answering an open question posed by Fröberg. We prove that this occurs if and only if $G$ is neighborhood conformal and its common neighbor graph is chordal. Equivalently, $G$ is a bipartite graph whose only induced cycles are $4$-cycles. As a consequence, we show that Katzman's lower bound becomes an equality for this class, yielding $\operatorname{reg}(S/I(G))=\operatorname{im}(G)$. Using recent results on glued clique complexes, we derive explicit combinatorial formulas for the exact graded Betti numbers of these neighborhood complexes. Finally, utilizing combinatorial Alexander duality, we obtain a corresponding classification of Cohen-Macaulay dominance complexes, and prove that the dominance complex of a graph without isolated vertices admits a $2$-linear resolution if and only if the graph is a star graph.

Jordan types for pairs of commuting nilpotent matrices: A survey
The aim of the paper is to survey results on Jordan types for pairs of nilpotent commuting matrices. We also review recent proof of the Box Conjecture on Jordan types that have equal dense orbit in the nilpotent commutator.
A natural eñe product construction of the Big Witt ring
We give a straightforward, self-contained, and natural construction of the Big Witt ring using the eñe product that is defined through the action on zeros of polynomials. This is in contrast with classical constructions of the Big Witt ring that use formulas out of nowhere.
