The poset of Specht ideals for hyperoctahedral groups

Specht polynomials classically realize the irreducible representations of the symmetric group. The ideals defined by these polynomials provide a strong connection with the combinatorics of Young tableaux and have been intensively studied by several authors. We initiate similar investigations for the ideals defined by the Specht polynomials associated to the hyperoctahedral group $B_n$. We introduce a bidominance order on bipartitions which describes the poset of inclusions of these ideals and study algebraic consequences on general $B_n$-invariant ideals and varieties, which can lead to computational simplifications.
A bijection between $K$-Kohnert diagrams and reverse set-valued tableaux

Lascoux polynomials are $K$-theoretic analogues of the key polynomials. They both have combinatorial formulas involving tableaux: reverse set-valued tableaux ($\mathsf{RSVT}$) rule for Lascoux polynomials and reverse semistandard Young tableaux ($\mathsf{RSSYT}$) rule for key polynomials. Furthermore, key polynomials have a simple algorithmic model in terms of Kohnert diagrams, which are in bijection with $\mathsf{RSSYT}$. Ross and Yong introduced $K$-Kohnert diagrams, which are analogues of Kohnert diagrams. They conjectured a $K$-Kohnert diagram rule for Lascoux polynomials. We establish this conjecture by constructing a weight-preserving bijection between $\mathsf{RSVT}$ and $K$-Kohnert diagrams.

We characterize the bipartite graphs that minimize the (first-degree based) entropy, among all bipartite graphs of given size, or given size and (upper bound on the) order. The extremal graphs turn out to be complete bipartite graphs, or nearly complete bipartite. Here we make use of an equivalent representation of bipartite graphs by means of Young tableaux, which make it easier to compare the entropy of related graphs. We conclude that the general characterization of the extremal graphs is a difficult problem, due to its connections with number theory, but they are easy to find for specific values of the order $n$ and size $m$. We also give a direct argument to characterize the graphs maximizing the entropy given order and size. We indicate that some of our ideas extend to other degree-based topological indices as well.

Promotion and rowmotion are intriguing actions in dynamical algebraic combinatorics which have inspired much work in recent years. In this paper, we study $P$-strict labelings of a finite, graded poset $P$ of rank $n$ and labels at most $q$, which generalize semistandard Young tableaux with $n$ rows and entries at most $q$, under promotion. These $P$-strict labelings are in equivariant bijection with $Q$-partitions under rowmotion, where $Q$ equals the product of $P$ and a chain of $q-n-1$ elements. We study the case where $P$ equals the product of chains in detail, yielding new homomesy and order results in the realm of tableaux and beyond. Furthermore, we apply the bijection to the cases in which $P$ is a minuscule poset and when $P$ is the three element $V$ poset. Finally, we give resonance results for promotion on $P$-strict labelings and rowmotion on $Q$-partitions.
A Multigraph Approach for Performing the Quantum Schur Transform
We take inspiration from the Okounkov-Vershik approach to the representation theory of the symmetric groups to develop a new way of understanding how the Schur-Weyl duality can be used to perform the Quantum Schur Transform. The Quantum Schur Transform is a unitary change of basis transformation between the computational basis of $(\mathbb{C}^d)^{\otimes n}$ and the Schur-Weyl basis of $(\mathbb{C}^d)^{\otimes n}$. We describe a new multigraph, which we call the Schur-Weyl-Young graph, that represents both standard Weyl tableaux and standard Young tableaux in the same diagram. We suggest a major improvement on Louck's formula for calculating the transition amplitudes between two standard Weyl tableaux appearing in adjacent levels of the Schur-Weyl-Young graph for the case $d=2$, merely by looking at the entries in the two tableaux. The key theoretical component that underpins our results is the discovery of a branching rule for the Schur-Weyl states, which we call the Schur-Weyl branching rule. This branching rule allows us to perform the change of basis transformation described above in a straightforward manner for any $n$ and $d$.

The Burge correspondence yields a bijection between simple labelled graphs and semistandard Young tableaux of threshold shape. We characterize the simple graphs of hook shape by peak and valley conditions on Burge arrays. This is the first step towards an analogue of Schensted's result for the RSK insertion which states that the length of the longest increasing subword of a word is the length of the largest row of the tableau under the RSK correspondence. Furthermore, we give a crystal structure on simple graphs of hook shape. The extremal vectors in this crystal are precisely the simple graphs whose degree sequence are threshold and hook-shaped.

We introduce balanced shifted tableaux, as an analogue of balanced tableaux of Edelman and Greene, from the perspective of root systems of type B and C. We show that they are equinumerous to standard Young tableaux of the corresponding shifted shape by presenting an explicit bijection.
Some observations about Hankel determinants of the columns of Pascal triangle and related topics
This note collects some facts and conjectures about the Hankel determinants and their generating functions of the columns of Hoggatt triangles which apparently are related to combinatorial objects such as Young tableaux and Narayana numbers.
Lattice path enumeration for semi-magic squares by Latin rectangles
Similar to how standard Young tableaux represent paths in the Young lattice, Latin rectangles may be use to enumerate paths in the poset of semi-magic squares with entries zero or one. The symmetries associated to determinant preserve this poset, and we completely describe the orbits, covering data, and maximal chains for squares of size 4, 5, and 6. The last item gives the number of Latin squares in these cases. To calculate efficiently for size 6, we in turn identify orbits with certain equivalence classes of hypergraphs.

For the ideal $I = \langle y_1 + \dots + y_n, y^2_1, \dots , y^2_n \rangle$ in $R = {\mathbb F}[y_1, \dots , y_n]$ with char($\mathbb F$) = 0, we show that the reduced Gröbner basis with lex-order consists of polynomials $g_α$ that are represented in terms of paths, moving northeast in the Cartesian plane, that stay above the diagonal and cross the diagonal at the last step. This implies that a linear basis for the quotient ring $R/I$ is given by a set of Catalan paths. We show that the dimension is the number of standard Young tableaux of size $n$ and height at most two. The graded Frobenius characteristic of $R/I$ as a symmetric group module is given by
$\sum_{k=0}^{\lfloor \frac{n}{2} \rfloor } s_{n-k,k}q^k$.
Standard Young tableaux and lattice paths
Using lattice path counting arguments, we reproduce a well known formula for the number of standard Young tableaux. We also produce an interesting new formula for tableaux of height $\leq 3$ using the Fourier methods of Ault and Kicey.
A Generalized RSK for Enumerating Linear Series on $n$-pointed Curves

We give a combinatorial proof of a recent geometric result of Farkas and Lian on linear series on curves with prescribed incidence conditions. The result states that the expected number of degree-$d$ morphisms from a general genus $g$, $n$-marked curve $C$ to $\mathbb{P}^r$, sending the marked points on $C$ to specified general points in $\mathbb{P}^r$, is equal to $(r+1)^g$ for sufficiently large $d$. This computation may be rephrased as an intersection problem on Grassmannians, which has a natural combinatorial interpretation in terms of Young tableaux by the classical Littlewood-Richardson rule. We give a bijection, generalizing the well-known RSK correspondence, between the tableaux in question and the $(r+1)$-ary sequences of length $g$, and we explore our bijection's combinatorial properties.
We also apply similar methods to give a combinatorial interpretation and proof of the fact that, in the modified setting in which $r=1$ and several marked points map to the same point in $\mathbb{P}^1$, the number of morphisms is still $2^g$ for sufficiently large $d$.

We introduce a super version of the Littlewood--Richardson rule for super Schur functions over signed alphabets. We give in particular combinatorial interpretations of the super Littlewood--Richardson coefficients using the properties of super Young tableaux, which have found rich applications in representation theory, algebraic combinatorics, and mathematical physics.
The Young matroid: A multiset extension of the Catalan matroid to arbitrary Young diagrams
Introduced by Ardila (J. Combin. Theory Ser. A, 2003), the Catalan matroid is obtained by defining the bases of the matroid using Dyck paths from $(0,0)$ to $(n,n)$. Further research has gone into the topic, with variants like lattice path matroids (introduced by Bonin, de Mier, and Noy (J. Combin. Theory Ser. A, 2003)) and shifted matroids (introduced independently by Klivans (2003), and Ardila) being studied intensively. In this short note, we introduce the Young matroid, an extension of the Catalan matroid, where the bases are defined using the standard Young tableaux of a fixed shape. This extension necessarily involves the consideration of independent multisets and multiset bases.
Towards a Combinatorial Model for $q$-weight Multiplicities of Simple Lie Algebras (Extended Abstract)
Kostka-Foulkes polynomials are Lusztig's $q$-analogues of weight multiplicities for irreducible representations of semisimple Lie algebras. It has long been known that these polynomials have non-negative coefficients. A statistic on semistandard Young tableaux with partition content, called \textit{charge}, was used to give a combinatorial formula exhibiting this fact in type $A$. Defining a charge statistic beyond type $A$ has been a long-standing problem. Here, we take a completely new approach based on the definition of Kostka-Foulkes polynomials as an alternating sum over Kostant partitions, which can be thought of as formal sums of positive roots. We use a sign-reversing involution to obtain a positive expansion, in which the relevant statistic is simply the number of parts in the Kostant partitions. The hope is that the simplicity of this new crystal-like model will naturally extend to other classical types.
Stressed hyperplanes and Kazhdan-Lusztig gamma-positivity for matroids

In this article we make several contributions of independent interest. First, we introduce the notion of stressed hyperplane of a matroid, essentially a type of cyclic flat that permits to transition from a given matroid into another with more bases. Second, we prove that the framework provided by the stressed hyperplanes allows one to write very concise closed formulas for the Kazhdan--Lusztig, inverse Kazhdan--Lusztig and $Z$-polynomials of all paving matroids, a class which is conjectured to predominate among matroids. Third, noticing the palindromicity of the $Z$-polynomial, we address its $γ$-positivity, a midpoint between unimodality and real-rootedness. To this end, we introduce the \emph{$γ$-polynomial} associated to it, we study some of its basic properties and we find closed expressions for it in the case of paving matroids. Also, we prove that it has positive coefficients in many interesting cases, particularly in the large family of sparse paving matroids, and other smaller classes such as projective geometries, thagomizer matroids and other particular graphs. Our last contribution consists of providing explicit combinatorial interpretations for the coefficients of many of the polynomials addressed in this article by enumerating fillings in certain Young tableaux and skew Young tableaux.
Relating three combinatorial formulas for type $A$ Whittaker functions
In this work we study the relationship between several combinatorial formulas for type $A$ spherical Whittaker functions. These are spherical functions on $p$-adic groups, which arise in the theory of automorphic forms. They depend on a parameter $t$, and are a specialization of Macdonald polynomials, and further specialize to Schur polynomials upon setting $t=0$. There are three types of formulas for these polynomials. The first formula is in terms of so-called alcove walks, works in arbitrary Lie type, and is derived from the Ram-Yip formula for Macdonald polynomials. The second one is in terms of certain fillings of Young diagrams, and is derived from, or is analogous to the Haglund-Haiman-Loehr formula for Macdonald polynomials. The third formula is in terms of the classical semistandard Young tableaux. We study the way in which each such formula is obtained from the previous one by combining terms $-$ a phenomenon called compression. No such results existed in the case of Whittaker functions.
On Schützenberger modules of the cactus group

The cactus group acts on the set of standard Young tableau of a given shape by (partial) Schützenberger involutions. It is natural to extend this action to the corresponding Specht module by identifying standard Young tableau with the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis. We term these representations of the cactus group "Schützenberger modules", denoted $S^λ_{\mathsf{Sch}}$, and in this paper we investigate their decomposition into irreducible components. We prove that when $λ$ is a hook shape, the cactus group action on $S^λ_{\mathsf{Sch}}$ factors through $S_{n-1}$ and the resulting multiplicities are given by Kostka coefficients. Our proof relies on results of Berenstein and Kirillov and Chmutov, Glick, and Pylyavskyy.
Permutations whose reverse shares the same recording tableau in the RSK correspondence

The RSK correspondence is a bijection between permutations and pairs of standard Young tableaux with identical shape, where the tableaux are commonly denoted $P$ (insertion) and $Q$ (recording). It has been an open problem to demonstrate $$ |\{w \in \mathfrak{S}_n | \, Q(w) = Q(w^r)\}| = \begin{cases}
\displaystyle 2^{\frac{n-1}{2}}{n-1 \choose \frac{n-1}{2}} & n \text{ odd} \newline
\displaystyle 0 & n \text{ even} \end{cases}, $$ where $w^r$ is the reverse permutation of $w$. First we show that for each $w$ where $Q(w) = Q(w^r)$ the recording tableau $Q(w)$ has a symmetric hook shape and satisfies a certain simple property. From these two results, we succeed in proving the desired identity.
Quantum immanants, double Young-Capelli bitableaux and Schur shifted symmetric functions

In this paper are introduced two classes of elements in the enveloping algebra $\mathbf{U}(gl(n))$: the \emph{double Young-Capelli bitableaux} $[\ \fbox{$S \ | \ T$}\ ]$ and the \emph{central} \emph{Schur elements} $\mathbf{S}_λ(n)$, that act in a remarkable way on the highest weight vectors of irreducible Schur modules.
Any element $\mathbf{S}_λ(n)$ is the sum of all double Young-Capelli bitableaux $[\ \fbox{$S \ | \ S$}\ ]$, $S$ row (strictly) increasing Young tableaux of shape $\widetildeλ$. The Schur elements $\mathbf{S}_λ(n)$ are proved to be the preimages - with respect to the Harish-Chandra isomorphism - of the \emph{shifted Schur polynomials} $s_{λ|n}^* \in Λ^*(n)$. Hence, the Schur elements are the same as the Okounkov \textit{quantum immanants}, recently described by the present authors as linear combinations of \emph{Capelli immanants}. This new presentation of Schur elements/quantum immanants doesn't involve the irreducible characters of symmetric groups. The Capelli elements $\mathbf{H}_k(n)$ are column Schur elements and the Nazarov-Umeda elements $\mathbf{I}_k(n)$ are row Schur elements. The duality in $\boldsymbolζ(n)$ follows from a combinatorial description of the eigenvalues of the $\mathbf{H}_k(n)$ on irreducible modules that is {\it{dual}} (in the sense of shapes/partitions) to the combinatorial description of the eigenvalues of the $\mathbf{I}_k(n)$.
The passage $n \rightarrow \infty$ for the algebras $\boldsymbolζ(n)$ is obtained both as direct and inverse limit in the category of filtered algebras, via the \emph{Olshanski decomposition/projection}.
