Let $(S,p)$ be a smooth pointed surface. In the first part of this paper we study motivic invariants of punctual nested Hilbert schemes attached to $(S,p)$ using the Hilbert-Samuel stratification. We compute two infinite families of motivic classes of punctual nested Hilbert schemes, corresponding to nestings of the form $(2,n)$ and $(3,n)$. As a consequence, we are able to give a lower bound for the number of irreducible components of $S_p^{[2,n]}$ and $S_p^{[3,n]}$.
In the second part of this paper we characterise completely the generating series of Euler characteristics of all nested Hilbert and Quot schemes. This is achieved via a novel technique, involving differential operators modelled on the enumerative problem, which we introduce. From this analysis, we deduce that in the Hilbert scheme case the generating series is the product of a rational function by the celebrated Euler's product formula counting integer partitions. In higher rank, we derive functional equations relating the nested Quot scheme generating series to the rank one series, corresponding to nested Hilbert schemes.

We investigate some weighted integer partitions whose generating functions are double-series. We will establish closed formulas for these $q$-double series and deduce that their coefficients are non-negative. This leads to inequalities among integer partitions.

Given an integer partition of $n$ into distinct parts, the sum of the reciprocal parts is an example of an egyptian fraction. We study this statistic under the uniform measure on distinct parts partitions of $n$ and prove that, as $n \to \infty$, the sum of reciprocal parts is distributed away from its mean like a random harmonic sum.

This paper gives new, efficient algorithms for approximate uniform sampling of contingency tables and integer partitions. The algorithms use the Burnside process, a general algorithm for sampling a uniform orbit of a finite group acting on a finite set. We show that a technique called `lumping' can be used to derive efficient implementations of the Burnside process. For both contingency tables and partitions, the lumped processes have far lower per step complexity than the original Markov chains. We also define a second Markov chain for partitions called the reflected Burnside process. The reflected Burnside process maintains the computational advantages of the lumped process but empirically converges to the uniform distribution much more rapidly. By using the reflected Burnside process we can easily sample uniform partitions of size $10^{10}$.
Statistics for random representations of Lie algebras
In this paper we investigate how a typical, large-dimensional representation looks for a complex Lie algebra. In particular, we study the family $\mathfrak{sl}_{r+1}(\mathbb{C})$ of Lie algebras for $r \geq 2$ and derive asymptotic probability distributions for the multiplicity of small irreducible representations, as well as the largest dimension, the largest height, and the total number of irreducible representations appearing in the decomposition of a representation sampled uniformly from all representations with the same dimension. This provides a natural generalization to the similar statistical studies of integer partitions, which forms the case $r=1$ of our considerations and where one has a rich toolkit ranging from combinatorial methods to approaches utilizing the theory of modular forms. We perform our analysis by extending the statistical mechanics inspired approaches in the case of partitions to the infinite family here.

We show that the spherical integral of the Circular Unitary Ensemble converges in expectation to Euler's generating function for integer partitions, and that subleading corrections to this high-dimensional limit are quasimodular forms.
"Overpartitionized" Rogers--Ramanujan type identities
Many classical $q$-series identities, such as the Rogers--Ramanujan identities, yield combinatorial interpretations in terms of integer partitions. Here we consider algebraically manipulating some of the classical $q$-series to yield natural combinatorial interpretations in terms of overpartitions. Bijective proofs are supplied as well.
Quasi-immanants

For an integer partition $ λ$ of $n$ and an $n \times n$ matrix $A$, consider the expansion of the immanant $\text{Imm}^λ(A)$ as a sum indexed by permutations $σ$ of order $n$, with coefficients given by the irreducible characters $χ^λ(\text{ctype}(σ))$ of the symmetric group $S_{n}$, for the cycle type $\text{ctype}(σ) \vdash n$ of $σ$. Skandera et al. have introduced combinatorial interpretations of a generalization of immanants given by replacing the coefficient $χ^λ(\text{ctype}(σ))$ with preimages with respect to the Frobenius morphism of elements among the distinguished bases of the algebra $\textsf{Sym}$ of symmetric functions. Since $ \textsf{Sym}$ is contained in the algebra $\textsf{QSym}$ of quasisymmetric functions, this leads us to further generalize immanants with the use of quasisymmetric functions. Since bases of $ \textsf{QSym}$ are indexed by integer compositions, we make use of cycle compositions in place of cycle types to define the family of quasi-immanants introduced in this paper. This is achieved through the use of the quasisymmetric power sum bases due to Ballantine et al., and we prove a combinatorial formula for the coefficients arising in an analogue, given by a special case of quasi-immanants associated with quasisymmetric Schur functions, of second immanants.

Berlekamp proposed a class of impartial combinatorial games based on the moves of chess pieces on rectangular boards. We generalize impartial chess games by playing them on Young diagrams and obtain results about winning and losing positions and Sprague-Grundy values for all chess pieces. We classify these games, and their restrictions to sets of partitions known as rectangles, staircases, and general staircases, according to the approach of Conway, later extended by Gurvich and Ho. The games $\rm {R\small OOK}$ and $\rm{Q\small UEEN}$ restricted to rectangles are known to have the same game tree as $2$-pile $\rm N{\small IM}$ and $\rm W{\small YTHOFF}$, respectively, so our work generalizes these well-known games.

We study the enumeration problem of higher dimensional partitions, a natural generalisation of classical integer partitions. We show that their counting problem is equivalent to the enumeration of simpler classes of higher dimensional partitions, satisfying suitable constraints on their embedding dimension and socle type. We provide exact formulas for the generating functions of several infinite families of such partitions, and design a procedure enumerating them in the general case. As a proof of concept, we determine the number of partitions of size up to 30 in any dimension.
Partition-theoretic model of prime distribution

We make an application of ideas from partition theory to a problem in multiplicative number theory. We propose a deterministic model of prime number distribution, from first principles related to properties of integer partitions, that naturally predicts the prime number theorem as well as the twin prime conjecture. The model posits that, for $n\geq 2$, $$p_{n}\ =\ 1\ +\ 2\sum_{j=1}^{n-1}\left\lceil \frac{d(j)}{2}\right\rceil\ +\ \varepsilon(n),$$
where $p_k$ is the $k$th prime number, $d(k)$ is the divisor function, and $\varepsilon(k)$ is an explicit error term that is negligible asymptotically; both the main term and error term represent enumerative functions in our conceptual model. We refine the error term to give numerical estimates of $π(n)$ similar to those provided by the logarithmic integral, and much more accurate than $\operatorname{li}(n)$ up to $n=10{,}000$ where the estimates are {\it almost exact}.
We then perform computational tests of unusual predictions of the model, finding limited evidence of predictable variations in prime gaps.

We prove that meromorphic differentials $ω^{(0)}_n(z_1,...,z_n)$ which are recursively generated by an involution identity are symmetric in all their arguments $z_1,...,z_n$. The proof involves an intriguing combinatorial identity between integer partitions into given number of parts.

Inspired by the study of the minimal excludant in integer partitions by G.E. Andrews and D. Newman, we introduce a pair of new partition statistics, sqrank and rerank. They are related to a polynomial bosonic form of statistical configuration sums for an integrable cellular automaton. For all nonnegative integers $n$, we prove that the partitions of $n$ on which sqrank or rerank takes on a particular value, say $r$, are equinumerous with the partitions of $n$ on which the odd/even minimal exclutant takes on the corresponding value, $2r+1$ or $2r+2$.
A note on Diagonal sequences of integer partitions
Let \(\mathcal{P}(n)\) be the set of partitions of the positive integer \(n\). For \(α=(α_1,...,α_t) \in \mathcal{P}(n)\) define the diagonal sequence \(δ(α)=(d_k(α))_{k \geq 1}\) via \( d_k(α) = \big\lvert \{ i \, \rvert \, 1 \leq i \leq k \mbox{ and } α_i + i- 1\geq k \} \big\rvert.\) We show that the set of all partitions in \(\mathcal{P}(n)\) with the same diagonal sequence is a partially ordered set under majorization with unique maximal and minimal elements and we give an explicit formula for the number of partitions with the same diagonal sequence.

Given a digraph $H$, we say a digraph $H^\prime$ is an $H$-subdivision if $H^\prime$ is obtained from $H$ by replacing one or more arcs from $H$ with internally vertex-disjoint path(s). In this paper, we prove that for any digraph $H$ with $h$ arcs and no isolated vertices, there is a constant $C_0>0$ such that the following hold.
$(1)$ For any integer $C\geq C_0$ and every digraph $D$ on $n\geq Ch$ vertices, if the minimum in- and out-degree of $D$ is at least $n/2$, then it contains an $H$-subdivision covering all vertices of $D$.
$(2)$ For any integer partition $n=n_1+\cdots+n_m$ such that the sum of the $n_i$ less than $αn$ is no more than $βn$, if a digraph $D$ has the order $n\geq Cm$ and the minimum in- and out-degree at least $\sum_{i=1}^m\lceil\frac{n_i}{2}\rceil$, then it contains $m$ disjoint $H$-subdivisions, where the order of these $H$-subdivisions is $n_1, \ldots, n_m$, respectively.
The result of $(1)$ settles the conjecture raised by Pavez-Signé \cite{Pavez} in a stronger form, and ameliorate the result of Lee \cite{Lee}. Also, the conclusion of $(2)$ partly answers of the conjecture of Lee \cite{Lee1} and generalizes the recent work of Lee \cite{Lee1}.
Algebra of overpartitions
In a 2022 paper, Dawsey, Just and the present author prove that the set of integer partitions, taken as a monoid under a partition multiplication operation I defined in my Ph.D. work, is isomorphic to the positive integers as a monoid under integer multiplication. In this note, I extend partition multiplication to the set of overpartitions, which are of much interest in partition theory. I prove the overpartitions form an Abelian group under partition multiplication. Moreover, the overpartitions and the positive rational numbers are isomorphic as multiplicative groups. I then prove further overpartition isomorphisms and discuss approaches to a ring theory of overpartitions.
Elementary symmetric partitions

Let e_k(x_1,...,x_l) be an elementary symmetric polynomial and let mu = (mu_1,...,mu_l) be an integer partition. Define pre_k(mu) to be the partition whose parts are the summands in the evaluation e_k(mu_1,...,mu_l). The study of such partitions was initiated by Ballantine, Beck, and Merca who showed (among other things) that pre_2 is injective as a map on binary partitions of n. In the present work we derive a host of identities involving the sequences which count the number of parts of a given value in the image of pre_2. These include generating functions, explicit expressions, and formulas for forward differences. We generalize some of these to d-ary partitions and explore connections with color partitions. Our techniques include the use of generating functions and bijections on rooted partitions. We end with a list of conjectures and a direction for future research.
A Generalized Burge Correspondence and $k$-measure of Partitions
Let $P$ be the set of integer partitions and $D$ the subset of those with distinct parts. We extend a correspondence of Burge between partitions and binary words to give encodings of both $D$ and $D$ as words over a $k$-ary alphabet, for any fixed $k\geq 2$. These are used to prove refinements of two partition identities involving $k$-measure that were recently derived algebraically by Andrews, Chern and Li. The relationship between our encoding of $D$ and minimum gap-size partition identities (e.g. Schur's Theorem) is also briefly discussed.
$s$-Modular, $s$-congruent and $s$-duplicate partitions

In this paper, we investigate the combinatorial properties of three classes of integer partitions: (1) $s$-modular partitions, a class consisting of partitions into parts with a number of occurrences (i.e., multiplicity) congruent to $0$ or $1$ modulo $s$, (2) $s$-congruent partitions, which generalize Sellers' partitions into parts not congruent to $2$ modulo $4$, and (3) $s$-duplicate partitions, of which the partitions having distinct odd parts and enumerated by the function $\mypod(n)$ are a special case. In this vein, we generalize Alladi's series expansion for the product generating function of $\mypod(n)$ and show that Andrews' generalization of Göllnitz-Gordon identities coincides with the number of partitions into parts simultaneously $s$-congruent and $t$-distinct (parts appearing fewer than $t$ times).
Realizability of hypergraphs and high-dimensional contingency tables with random degrees and marginals

A result of Deza, Levin, Meesum, and Onn shows that the problem of deciding if a given sequence is the degree sequence of a 3-uniform hypergraph is NP complete. We tackle this problem in the random case and show that a random integer partition can be realized as the degree sequence of a $3$-uniform hypergraph with high probability. These results are in stark contrast with the case of graphs, where a classical result of Erdős and Gallai provides an efficient algorithm for checking if a sequence is a degree sequence of a graph and a result of Pittel shows that with high probability a random partition is not the degree sequence of a graph.
By the same method, we address analogous realizability problems about high-dimensional binary contingency tables. We prove that if $(λ,μ,ν)$ are three independent random partitions then with high probability one can construct a three-dimensional binary contingency table with marginals $(λ,μ,ν)$. Conversely, if one insists that the contingency table forms a pyramid shape, then we show that with high probability one cannot construct such a contingency table. These two results confirm two conjectures of Pak and Panova.
