On factorization of matrix of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials
Let $\mathcal{H} = \mathcal{H}(W,S)$ be the Hecke algebra of the Coxeter system $(W,S)$ over $\mathbb{Z}[q^{\pm1}]$, where $W$ is the Weyl group of a symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebra. In this paper, we show that the matrix of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials of $\mathcal{H}$ factorizes into a product of $|S|$ many matrices, each of which has entries as polynomials in $q$ with nonnegative coefficients. To achieve this goal, we use hybrid basis $TC^J$ for $J\subseteq S$ of $\mathcal{H}$, defined by Grojnowski-Haiman. The intermediate matrices in the aforementioned factorization turn out to be the transition matrices from $TC^J$-basis to $TC^I$-basis for $I\subset J$. Equivalently, these coefficients can be computed using a natural restriction map from $\mathcal{H}$ to the parabolic Hecke algebra $\mathcal{H}_J$. Moreover, following the ideas from Grojnowski-Haiman, we also give a geometric proof of the positivity of these coefficients.

Explicit construction of spherical $5$- and $7$-designs
Published • View Publication • BIB
This paper develops an explicit and implementable framework for constructing spherical designs by lifting point sets from tight fusion frames. By combining existing ingredients, we obtain, in every dimension, explicit spherical $5$-designs with $|X|=\mathcal{O}(d^3)$. As a core component of the method, we give an explicit construction of simplex $3$-designs realized as orbits of the symmetric group. Using these simplex designs as input, we further construct spherical $7$-designs in arbitrary even dimensions; more precisely, for every even integer $d\ge 6$ we obtain spherical $7$-designs in dimension $d$, and if $\frac{d}{2}-1$ is a prime power then the number of points is $\mathcal{O}(d^6)$.

Relevant maps and the algebraic skeleton of simplicial toric prevarieties
Morphisms between schemes arising from multigraded rings are essential for understanding geometric relationships in algebraic geometry, yet a systematic theory for such maps has been lacking. In this paper, we develop a comprehensive framework for rational maps between multigraded Proj schemes by introducing several notions of maps between their underlying multigraded rings. A key challenge is that to induce actual morphisms (rather than just rational maps), the ring homomorphism $\varphi\colon R \to S$ must hit every relevant element in $S$. To address this, we introduce the use of relevant subsets $B \subseteq S_+$ (where $S_+$ is the ideal generated by all relevant elements), $B \unlhd S$, which allow us to control this condition more flexibly. As an application, we show that multigraded noetherian polynomial rings naturally encode combinatorial data, giving rise to systems of fans and thus to toric prevarieties. By leveraging our notion of rational maps with those relevant subsets, we prove that the category of triples $(D, S, B)$ - where $D$ is a finitely generated abelian group, $S$ is a $D$-graded noetherian polynomial ring, and $B \unlhd S$ is a subset of $S_+$ - together with rational maps of conical rings, is anti-equivalent to the category of simplicial toric prevarieties.

New bounds for (weak) sequenceability in $\mathbb{Z}_k$
A famous conjecture of Graham asserts that every set $A \subseteq \mathbb{Z}_p \setminus \{0\}$ can be ordered so that all partial sums are distinct. Although this conjecture was recently proved for sufficiently large primes by Pham and Sauermann in [16], it remains open for general abelian groups, even in the cyclic case $\mathbb{Z}_k$. For cyclic groups, the best known result is due to Bedert and Kravitz in [4], who proved - using a rectification and a two-step probabilistic approach - that the conjecture holds for any subset $A \subseteq \mathbb{Z}_k \setminus \{0\}$ such that $$ |A| \le \exp\!\big(c(\log p)^{1/4}\big), $$ for some constant $c>0$, where $p$ denotes the least prime divisor of $k$. In this paper, we improve their bound using a rectification argument again, followed by a one-shot probabilistic approach, showing that the conjecture holds whenever $$|A| \le \exp\!\big(c(\log p)^{1/3}\big), $$ thus improving the exponent $1/4$ from [4]. Moreover, the same one-shot approach adapts to the $t$-weak setting: by imposing all local constraints at once and applying the Lovász Local Lemma, we obtain the existence of a $t$-weak sequencing whenever $$ t \le \exp\!\big(c(\log p)^{1/4}\big). $$

Kneser- and Jin-type inverse theorems in discrete abelian groups
We characterize the pairs of sets $A, B$ in an arbitrary (countable or uncountable) discrete abelian group $Γ$ satisfying $\tilde{m}(A+B)<\tilde{m}(A)+\tilde{m}(B)$, where $\tilde{m}$ is an arbitrary finitely additive translation-invariant probability measure on $Γ$, extending M.~Kneser's theorem on Haar measure in compact abelian groups. We then characterize, for an arbitrary Følner sequence or Følner net $\mathbf F=(F_{i})_{i\in I}$ on $Γ$, those $A$, $B$ satisfying $\underline{d}_{\mathbf F}(A+B)<\underline{d}_{\mathbf F}(A)+\underline{d}_{\mathbf F}(B)$, where $\underline{d}_{\mathbf F}(C):=\liminf_{i\in I} |C\cap F_{i}|/|F_{i}|$. This extends Kneser's theorem on lower asymptotic density in $\mathbb N$. We also generalize theorems of Prerna Bihani and Renling Jin by characterizing pairs $A$, $B$ satisfying $d^{*}(A+B)<d^{*}(A)+d^{*}(B)$, where $d^{*}$ is upper Banach density on $Γ$.

Structure of sets with small product sets in torsion-free groups, cyclic groups of prime orders and abelian groups
Let $\ell$ and $m$ be positive integers with $\ell \leq m$, and let $\mathcal{A} = (A_1, \ldots, A_m)$ be a finite sequence of finite subsets of a group $G$ (not necessarily abelian), written multiplicatively. The {\it generalized product set} $Π^{\ell}(\mathcal{A})$ is the set of all elements of $G$ which can be represented as a product of exactly $\ell$ elements from $\ell$ distinct sets from $\mathcal{A}$ taken in any order. DeVos, Goddyn and Mohar obtained the nontrivial lower bound for the size of this product set when $G$ is abelian. The DeVos-Goddyn-Mohar Theorem is a fundamental result in additive combinatorics which unifies various results from zero-sum combinatorics and has connections with subsequence sums and sumsets. In this paper, we obtain an optimal lower bound for the size of generalized product set $Π^{\ell}(\mathcal{A})$ in torsion-free groups (not necessarily abelian), and characterize the structure of underlying sets in the sequence $\mathcal{A} = (A_1, \ldots, A_m)$ for which $Π^{\ell}(\mathcal{A})$ achieves the optimal lower bound. By slightly modifying the arguments of the proofs in the case of torsion-free groups, we derive such inverse theorems in cyclic groups of prime orders also. Our proof of these result also yields a new proof of DeVos-Goddyn-Mohar Theorem in $\mathbb{Z}_p$. Moreover, we extend these inverse results to arbitrary abelian groups. Furthermore, as an application, we generalize a theorem for subsequence sums due to Hamidoune in torsion-free groups, and obtain several other results for subsequence sums in arbitrary groups.

Discrete homotopy hypothesis for n-types
We show that discrete and classical homotopy theories are equivalent after localizing at n-equivalences for any non-negative integer n. By constructing an explicit homotopy inverse to the graph nerve functor associating an n-fibrant cubical set to a graph, we are also able to give explicit computations of several previously unknown discrete homotopy groups of boundaries of cubes and suspensions of cycles.
Constructions of two-dimensional optical orthogonal codes of weight three
The study of optical orthogonal codes has been motivated by an application in an optical code-division multiple access system. This paper focuses on optimal two-dimensional optical orthogonal codes with autocorrelation and cross-correlation both equal to $1$. By examining the structures of $n$-cyclic group divisible packings and semi-cyclic incomplete holey group divisible designs, we present new combinatorial constructions for two-dimensional $(m\times n,k,1)$-optical orthogonal codes. As a consequence, the exact number of codewords of an optimal two-dimensional $(m\times n,3,1)$-optical orthogonal code is determined for any positive integers $m$ and $n$.

On A. V. Anisimov's problem for finding a polynomial algorithm checking inclusion of context-free languages in group languages
Published in Filomat, 2024, Volume 38, Issue 12, Pages: 4157-4166 • View Publication • BIB
The work investigates the problem of whether a context-free language is a subset of a group language. A.~V. Anisimov has shown that the problem of determining the unambiguity of finite automata is a special case of this problem. Then the question of finding polynomial algorithm verifying the inclusion of context-free languages in group languages naturally arises. The article focuses on this open problem. For the purpose, the paper describes an unconventional method of description of context-free languages, namely a representation with the help of a finite digraph whose arcs are labelled with a specially defined monoid $\mathcal{U}$. Also, we define a semiring $\mathcal{S}_\mathcal{U}$ whose elements are the set $2^\mathcal{U}$ of all subsets of $\mathcal{U}$ and with operations - product and union of the elements of $2^\mathcal{U}$. The described algorithm executes no more than $O(n^3)$ operations in $\mathcal{S}_\mathcal{U}$.

Polytopes of alternating sign matrices with dihedral-subgroup symmetry
We investigate the convex hulls of the eight dihedral symmetry classes of $n \times n$ alternating sign matrices, i.e., ASMs invariant under a subgroup of the symmetry group of the square. Extending the prefix-sum description of the ASM polytope, we develop a uniform core--assembly framework: each symmetry class is encoded by a set of core positions and an affine assembly map that reconstructs the full matrix from its core. This reduction transfers polyhedral questions to lower-dimensional core polytopes, which are better suited to the tool set of polyhedral combinatorics, while retaining complete information about the original symmetry class. For the vertical, vertical--horizontal, half-turn, diagonal, diagonal--antidiagonal, and total symmetry classes, we give explicit polynomial-size linear inequality descriptions of the associated polytopes. In these cases, we also determine the dimension and provide facet descriptions. The quarter-turn symmetry class behaves differently: the natural relaxation admits fractional vertices, and we need to extend the system with a structured family of parity-type Chvátal--Gomory inequalities to obtain the quarter-turn symmetric ASM polytope. Our framework leads to efficient algorithms for computing minimum-cost ASMs in each symmetry class and provides a direct link between the combinatorics of symmetric ASMs and tools from polyhedral combinatorics and combinatorial optimization.

The Sandpile Group of a Cone Over a Bi-Coconut Tree
The sandpile group of a connected graph is a finite abelian group whose cardinality is the number of spanning trees in the graph. We compute the spanning tree number and sandpile group structure for the cone over a bi-coconut tree, generalizing work of Reiner and Smith on the cone over a coconut tree. We also answer one of their questions, by exhibiting a family of trees whose sandpile groups are all cyclic but their number of leaves grows without bound.

Enumeration of Nilpotent Loops by Orbit Counting
We study central extensions of nilpotent loops by elementary abelian $p$-groups using normalized cocycles. By introducing an affine automorphism group acting on the full cocycle space, we obtain a direct correspondence between affine orbits and isomorphism classes of central extensions. This framework yields an efficient orbit-counting method for enumerating nilpotent loops. We reproduce the known results for orders less than 24, and enumerate the nilpotent loops of order 24 with center of size at least 3.

On Toric Ideals Arising from the Chip-Firing Game
We study certain groups and ideals arising from the chip-firing game on a generalisation of graphs called pargraphs. Several well-known families of toric ideals, including those defining rational normal curves and binomial edge ideals of complete graphs, arise as toppling ideals of pargraphs. We provide sufficient conditions under which the toppling ideal of a pargraph to be toric. In addition, we construct a Gröbner basis for the toppling ideal, a minimal cellular free resolution for a distinguished initial ideal known as the $G$-parking function ideal, and establish Cohen-Macaulay property for these ideals. We also study the Picard group of a pargraph and provide sufficient conditions ensuring its freeness.
On generating functions and automata associated to reflections in Coxeter systems
In this article, we study two combinatorial problems concerning the set of reflections of a Coxeter system. The first problem asks whether the language of palindromic reduced words for reflections is regular, and the second is about finding formulas for the Poincaré series of reflections, namely the generating function of reflection lengths. These two problems were inspired by a conjecture of Stembridge stating that the Poincaré series of reflections is rational and by the solution provided by de Man. To address the first problem, we introduce reflection-prefixes, arising naturally from palindromic reduced words. We study their connections with the root poset, dominance order on roots, and dihedral reflection subgroups. Using $m$-canonical automata associated with $m$-Shi arrangements, we prove that the language of reduced words for reflection-prefixes is regular. For the second problem, we focus on affine Coxeter groups. In this case, we derive a simple formula for the Poincaré series using symmetries of the Hasse diagram of the root poset.

Multidimensional convolution matrices and perfect colorings of subspace hypergraphs applied for bent functions and related designs
The main aim of the present paper is to introduce new methods for the study of combinatorial designs related to bent functions. They are based on interpretations of convolution on finite abelian groups as multiplication by a multidimensional matrix and designs as perfect colorings of subspace hypergraphs of $\mathbb{F}_2^n$. We establish a correspondence between eigenfunctions of convolution matrices and perfect colorings of subspace hypergraphs, show that perfect colorings of subspace hypergraphs admit a characterization in terms of convolution and that two-valued eigenfunctions of subspace hypergraphs correspond to perfect colorings. As applications, we represent partial difference sets, bent and plateaued Boolean functions, spreads, and strong bent partitions of $\mathbb{F}_2^n$ as eigenfunctions of convolution matrices and as perfect colorings of subspace hypergraphs. We also find some eigenvalues of convolution matrices over $\mathbb{F}_2^n$ and $\mathbb{F}_3^n$.

Classification of abelian Schur groups I
A finite group $G$ is called a Schur group if every $S$-ring over $G$ is schurian, i.e. associated in a natural way with a subgroup of $Sym(G)$ that contains all right translations of $G$. The list of all possible abelian Schur groups was obtained by Evdokimov, Kovács, and Ponomarenko in 2016. In two papers, we finish a classification of abelian Schur groups. In the present paper, we study schurity of several groups from the list. Namely, we prove that a direct product of the elementary abelian group of order 4 and a cyclic group, whose order is an odd prime power or a product of two distinct odd primes, is a Schur group and establish nonschurity of some other groups from the list.

On stable patterns and properties on permutations of multisets
Published • View Publication • BIB
In this paper, we study properties and patterns on permutations of multisets whose multivariate generating functions are symmetric. We interpret this phenomenon through the lens of group actions and define such a property or pattern as stable. We provide a complete characterization of stable classical patterns, showing that the only such patterns are those of length one or two. For consecutive patterns, we establish the stability of all monotone patterns and also identify a large class of unstable patterns. We conjecture that monotone patterns are the only stable consecutive patterns. All stability results in this paper are proven via explicit bijections, which provide new combinatorial interpretations of the symmetry of the generating functions. As an application, we use stability to derive recurrence relations for the ascent distribution on permutations of multisets, resulting in a generalization of Eulerian numbers.

Expanding groups with large diameter
We study how the spectral gap and diameter of Cayley graphs depend strongly on the choice of generating set. We answer a question of Pyber and Szabó (2013) by exhibiting a sequence of finite groups $G_n$ with $|G_n| \to \infty$ admitting bounded generating sets $X_n,Y_n$ such that $\operatorname{Cay}(G_n,X_n)$ is an expander while $\operatorname{Cay}(G_n,Y_n)$ has super-polylogarithmic diameter. The construction uses the semidirect product $G_n = C_p^{n-1} \rtimes S_n$ with $p$ exponentially large in $n$, and the analysis reduces to bounding some exponential sums of permutational type.

Metric Dimension of Difference Graph of Finite Groups
The Difference graph $\mathcal{D}(G)$ of a finite group $G$ is the difference of the enhanced power graph $\mathcal{P}_{E}(G)$ and the power graph $\mathcal{P}(G)$ with all the isolated vertices removed. In this paper, we characterize the vertex set of the difference graph of finite nilpotent groups and obtain its cardinality. Consequently, we obtain the metric dimension of the difference graph of finite nilpotent groups. Moreover, this paper determines the metric dimension of the difference graphs of certain non-nilpotent groups, namely: dihedral groups, the generalized quaternion groups, and the semi-dihedral groups.

Bases of Permutation Groups and Boolean Representable Simplicial Complexes
A base of a permutation group (X,G) is a subset B of X such that its pointwise stabilizer is the trivial group. A list (x1,x2, ... ,xk) of elements of X is irredundant if each element is not in the pointwise stabilizer of its predecessors. We define a Boolean representable simplicial complex B(X,G) such that a subset Y of X is independent if and only if some enumeration of its elements is irredundant. In addition Y is a base if and only if its closure is X. We give a number of examples and close with a conjecture whose solution leads to a new proof of the Feit-Thompson Theorem.
