We derive asymptotic formulas for central extended binomial coefficients, which are generalizations of binomial coefficients. To do so, we relate the exact distribution of the sum of independent discrete uniform random variables to the asymptotic distribution, obtained from the Central Limit Theorem and a local limit variant.

The q-binomial coefficients are the polynomial cousins of the traditional binomial coefficients, and a number of identities for binomial coefficients can be translated into this polynomial setting. For instance, the familiar vanishing of the alternating sum across row n of Pascal's triangle is captured by the so-called Gaussian Formula. In this paper, we find a q-binomial congruence which synthesizes this result and Fleck's congruence for binomial coefficients.
Polynomial Triangles Revisited
A polynomial triangle is an array whose inputs are the coefficients in integral powers of a polynomial. Although polynomial coefficients have appeared in several works, there is no systematic treatise on this topic. In this paper we plan to fill this gap. We describe some aspects of these arrays, which generalize similar properties of the binomial coefficients. Some combinatorial models enumerated by polynomial coefficients, including lattice paths model, spin chain model and scores in a drawing game, are introduced. Several known binomial identities are then extended. In addition, we calculate recursively generating functions of column sequences. Interesting corollaries follow from these recurrence relations such as new formulae for the Fibonacci numbers and Hermite polynomials in terms of trinomial coefficients. Finally, properties of the entropy density function that characterizes polynomial coefficients in the thermodynamical limit are studied in details.

A symmetrical q-Eulerian identity
We find a $q$-analog of the following symmetrical identity involving binomial coefficients $\binom{n}{m}$ and Eulerian numbers $A_{n,m}$, due to Chung, Graham and Knuth [{\it J. Comb.}, {\bf 1} (2010), 29--38]: {equation*} \sum_{k\geq 0}\binom{a+b}{k}A_{k,a-1}=\sum_{k\geq 0}\binom{a+b}{k}A_{k,b-1}. {equation*} We give two proofs, using generating function and bijections, respectively.

We study random lozenge tilings of a certain shape in the plane called the Novak half-hexagon, and compute the correlation functions for this process. This model was introduced by Nordenstam and Young (2011) and has many intriguing similarities with a more well-studied model, domino tilings of the Aztec diamond. The most difficult step in the present paper is to compute the inverse of the matrix whose (i,j) entry is the binomial coefficient C(A, B_j - i) for indeterminate variables A and B_1, ..., B_n.
Enumeration of k-Exceedance Lattice Paths with an Application to Comparing Chains of Order Statistics
We enumerate the number of monotonic lattice paths starting at $(0,0)$ and terminating at $(m,n)$ in which $l$ of the first $k$ steps lie below the line $y=x\ (0\leq k\leq m\leq n)$. These closed formulas consist of terms which are a product Catalan numbers, ballot numbers and binomial coefficients. We then apply the combinatorial formulas to failure analysis by deriving a probability distribution that compares the performance of a $k$-out-of-$m$ system to a $k$-out-of-$n$ system of continuous, independent, and identically distributed random variables. Lastly, we provide asymptotics in a few special cases of $k,m,n$ and leave others as conjecture.

In this paper, we study the homology of the coloring complex and the cyclic coloring complex of a complete $k$-uniform hypergraph. We show that the coloring complex of a complete $k$-uniform hypergraph is shellable, and we determine the rank of its unique nontrivial homology group in terms of its chromatic polynomial. We also show that the dimension of the $(n-k-1)^{st}$ homology group of the cyclic coloring complex of a complete $k$-uniform hypergraph is given by a binomial coefficient. Further, we discuss a complex whose $r$-faces consist of all ordered set partitions $[B_1, \hdots, B_{r+2}]$ where none of the $B_i$ contain a hyperedge of the complete $k$-uniform hypergraph $H$ and where $1 \in B_1$. It is shown that the dimensions of the homology groups of this complex are given by binomial coefficients. As a consequence, this result gives the dimensions of the multilinear parts of the cyclic homology groups of $\C[x_1, \hdots, x_n]/ \{x_{i_1} \hdots x_{i_k} \mid i_{1} \hdots i_{k}$ is a hyperedge of $H \}$.

In this article, we give upper bounds for cyclotomic numbers of order e over a finite field with q elements, where e is a divisor of q-1. In particular, we show that under certain assumptions, cyclotomic numbers are at most $\lceil\frac{k}{2}\rceil$, and the cyclotomic number (0,0) is at most $\lceil\frac{k}{2}\rceil-1$, where k=(q-1)/e. These results are obtained by using a known formula for the determinant of a matrix whose entries are binomial coefficients.

In this paper we study the number of humps (peaks) in Dyck, Motzkin and Schröder paths. Recently A. Regev noticed that the number of peaks in all Dyck paths of order $n$ is one half of the number of super Dyck paths of order $n$. He also computed the number of humps in Motzkin paths and found a similar relation, and asked for bijective proofs. We give a bijection and prove these results. Using this bijection we also give a new proof that the number of Dyck paths of order $n$ with $k$ peaks is the Narayana number. By double counting super Schröder paths, we also get an identity involving products of binomial coefficients.
The Fibonacci partition triangles

In two previous papers we have presented partition formulae for the Fibonacci numbers motivated by the appearance of the Fibonacci numbers in the representation theory of the 3-Kronecker quiver and its universal cover, the 3-regular tree. Here we show that the basic information can be rearranged in two triangles. They are quite similar to the Pascal triangle of the binomial coefficients, but in contrast to the additivity rule for the Pascal triangle, we now deal with additivity along hooks, or, equivalently, with additive functions for valued translation quivers. As for the Pascal triangle, we see that the numbers in these Fibonacci partition triangles are given by evaluating polynomials. We show that the two triangles can be obtained from each other by looking at differences of numbers, it is sufficient to take differences along arrows and knight's moves.
Some nice Hankel determinants
I study Hankel determinants of a class of sequences which can be interpreted as generalizations of the Catalan numbers and the central binomial coefficients. They follow a modular pattern with a frequent appearance of zeroes, so that the theory of orthogonal polynomials is not applicable. Even so our theorems and conjectures show some similarity with the relations between Catalan numbers and Fibonacci polynomials or between central binomial coefficients and Lucas polynomials.
On a Generalization of Bernoulli and Euler Numbers
We introduce a series of numbers which serve as a generalization of Bernoulli, Euler numbers and binomial coefficients. Their properties are applied to solve a probability problem and suggest a statistical test for independence and identical distribution of random variables.

This paper introduces the concept of necklace binomial coefficients motivated by the enumeration of a special type of sequences. Several properties of these coefficients are described, including a connection between their roots and an elliptic curve. Further links are given to a physical model from quantum mechanical supersymmetry as well as properties of alkane molecules in chemistry.

In this paper, we study the homology of the cyclic coloring complex of three different types of $k$-uniform hypergraphs. For the case of a complete $k$-uniform hypergraph, we show that the dimension of the $(n-k-1)^{st}$ homology group is given by a binomial coefficient. Further, we discuss a complex whose $r$-faces consist of all ordered set partitions $[B_1, ..., B_{r+2}]$ where none of the $B_i$ contain a hyperedge of the complete $k$-uniform hypergraph $H$ and where $1 \in B_1$. It is shown that the dimensions of the homology groups of this complex are given by binomial coefficients. As a consequence, this result gives the dimensions of the multilinear parts of the cyclic homology groups of $\C[x_1,...,x_n]/ \{x_{i_1}...x_{i_k} \mid i_{1}...i_{k}$ is a hyperedge of $H \}$. For the other two types of hypergraphs, star hypergraphs and diagonal hypergraphs, we show that the dimensions of the homology groups of their cyclic coloring complexes are given by binomial coefficients as well.
The Binomial Coefficient for Negative Arguments
The definition of the binomial coefficient in terms of gamma functions also allows non-integer arguments. For nonnegative integer arguments the gamma functions reduce to factorials, leading to the well-known Pascal triangle. Using a symmetry formula for the gamma function, this definition is extended to negative integer arguments, making the symmetry identity for binomial coefficients valid for all integer arguments. The agreement of this definition with some other identities and with the binomial theorem is investigated.
Some conjectures on congruences
Let $p$ be an odd prime. In the paper we collect the author's various conjectures on congruences modulo $p$ or $p^2$, which are concerned with sums of binomial coefficients, Lucas sequences, power residues and special binary quadratic forms.
Some Combinatorial Identities some of which involving Harmonic Numbers
A product difference equation is proved and used for derivation by elementary methods of four combinatorial identities, eight combinatorial identities involving generalized harmonic numbers and eight combinatorial identities involving classical harmonic numbers. For the binomial coefficients the definition with gamma functions is used, thus also allowing non-integer arguments in the identities. The generalized harmonic numbers in this case are harmonic numbers with a complex offset, where the classical harmonic numbers are a special case with offset zero.

We obtain new lower bounds for the independence number of $K_r$-free graphs and linear $k$-uniform hypergraphs in terms of the degree sequence. This answers some old questions raised by Caro and Tuza \cite{CT91}. Our proof technique is an extension of a method of Caro and Wei \cite{CA79, WE79}, and we also give a new short proof of the main result of \cite{CT91} using this approach. As byproducts, we also obtain some non-trivial identities involving binomial coefficients.
Note on Ward-Horadam H(x) - binomials' recurrences and related interpretations, II
We deliver here second new $\textit{H(x)}-binomials'$ recurrence formula, were $H(x)-binomials' $ array is appointed by $Ward-Horadam$ sequence of functions which in predominantly considered cases where chosen to be polynomials . Secondly, we supply a review of selected related combinatorial interpretations of generalized binomial coefficients. We then propose also a kind of transfer of interpretation of $p,q-binomial $ coefficients onto $q-binomial$ coefficients interpretations thus bringing us back to $Gy{ö}rgy Pólya $ and Donald Ervin Knuth relevant investigation decades ago.
