Parametrization of positroid cells by Dubrovin-Natanzon Cartier divisors on maximal Mumford curves
We prove that each totally positive Schubert cell is a real component of Jacobian of the maximal Mumford ($\mathtt{MM}$) curve corresponding to the Le-graph of such cell. At this aim we construct a bijection between the points of this positroid cell and Dubrovin-Natanzon Cartier divisors on the $\mathtt{MM}$-curve.
The $E_6$ Restricted Hyperplane Arrangement and its $E_7$ Shadow: Weyl Transport on a Minuscule Bruhat Poset
We study the restricted fan cut inside the dual fundamental Weyl chamber by the weights of a $27$-dimensional minuscule representation of $E_6$; the two such representations are dual and give the same arrangement.
Only $11$ of the $27$ weights have kernels meeting its interior, and we prove that they determine the entire fan. It has exactly $14$ chambers and $18$ extreme rays, every chamber is a six-dimensional simplicial cone, and we determine all facets, rays, and incidence relations. The chamber count was previously obtained by Diaconescu and Entin; the simplicial structure, extreme rays, and incidence data are new. The geometry of the $27$ lines on a cubic surface then explains and organizes the resulting chamber architecture. We also enumerate all faces, compute both characteristic polynomials---the arrangement is not supersolvable---together with lattice indices and projective chamber volumes, and describe the oriented matroid.
Our main result is representation-theoretic. A distinguished $14$-element visible subposet of the minuscule $\mathbf{56}$ of $E_7$, defined entirely inside $E_7$, has Hasse diagram equal to the chamber adjacency graph of the $E_6$ arrangement. Three canonical $7+7$ splittings of it, of types $A_7$, $D_7$, and $E_7$, are the visible traces of Levi-center $\mathfrak{u}(1)$-charge decompositions of the $\mathbf{56}$ and reproduce the three level-$8$ decompositions on the $E_6$ side. More strongly, the simple-root labels on its covers, transported by minimal-length coset representatives, recover chamber by chamber all six facets and, globally, the $11$ active weight hyperplanes and the boundary walls of the dual Weyl chamber. Thus the $E_7$ shadow records not merely the chamber graph but, once matched with the independent $E_6$ classification, the full local wall architecture of $I(E_6,\mathbf{27})$.
Long range divided differences, clusters, and Graham-positivity
We study torus-orbit closures in the type $A$ complete flag variety naturally associated to cones in the positive cluster fan, together with their left $S_n$-translates. The torus-equivariant degree maps can be computed via composites of long-range divided difference operations encoded by noncrossing alternating forests, and we give combinatorial algorithms to expand the torus-equivariant homology classes into Graham-positive combinations of Schubert cycles. As applications we obtain combinatorial Graham-positive Schubert cycle expansions for all torus-invariant curves (generalizing the AJS-Billey formula for torus-fixed points), generic torus-orbit closures, and Richardson varieties for Bruhat intervals $[w,wc']$ where $c'\le s_{n-1}s_{n-2}\cdots s_1$. Projecting to Grassmannians we also obtain Graham-positive Grassmannian Schubert cycle decompositions of torus-orbit closures associated to lattice path matroids on permuted ground sets.
Matchings and Clusters on Plabic Fences
Fix two positive braid words $β_+,β_-$, and let $\text{Conf}(β_+,β_-)$ be the corresponding (type A) double Bott-Samelson variety. Let $β$ be a double braid word containing $β_+,β_-$ as the top, bottom words. We consider the open cluster torus $T(C_β)$ associated to a triangulation $C_β$ in $\text{Conf}(β_+,β_-)$ from arXiv:1904.07992, and we identify these with weighted plabic fences, where the usual local moves on planar bipartite graphs naturally correspond to change of torus coordinates in double Bott-Samelson variety. Moreover, $T(C_β)$ can be parametrized explicitly by certain matrix products, and also has monomial coordinates given by the cluster variables, which are matrix minors. We interpret these minors as a generalized notion of perfect matchings on weighted plabic fences, which may not be reduced plabic graphs. Using this interpretation, we show that the cluster variables are given by "generalized minimal matchings", extending the minimal matchings from arXiv:1606.08383. Lastly, we derive a Chamber Ansatz formula for double Bott-Samelson varieties via face alternating products from dimer theory. In general, plabic fences are not reduced plabic graphs, yet we are able to extend and apply the standard tools such as local moves on plabic graphs, trips, and minimal matchings to them.
The Vámos Matroid Has No Second Symmetric Power
Symmetric powers of matroids were introduced by Lovász and Mason. The subject has recently attracted renewed interest through its connection with the realizability of tropical linear spaces by tropical ideals. Anderson proved that the tropical linear space associated with a matroid $M$ is the variety of a tropical ideal if and only if $M$ has a $d$th symmetric power for every positive integer $d$. He also asked whether the Vámos matroid $V_8$ has a second symmetric power. We answer this question in the negative by proving that $V_8$ has no second symmetric power. By Anderson's characterization, the associated tropical linear space cannot be realized as the variety of a tropical ideal.
Catalan-many tropical morphisms to trees; Part II: A space and a count
In their work on Brill-Noether theory, Eisenbud and Harris established the geometry of the universal parameter space of linear series over curves, proving that for even genus $g$ and degree $d = g/2 + 1$, the projection to the moduli space of curves is a finite cover of degree equal to the Catalan number $C_{g/2} = \frac{1}{g/2+1}\binom{g}{g/2}$. In this paper, we construct the tropical counterpart of this universal family: a polyhedral cone complex $\mathcal{G}_{g \to 0, d}^{\mathrm{trop}}$ parametrizing degree-$d$ tropical morphisms from genus-$g$ metric graphs to metric trees. For even $g$ and $d = g/2 + 1$, we prove that the forgetful projection $Π\colon \mathcal{G}_{g \to 0, d}^{\mathrm{trop}} \to \mathcal{M}_{g}^{\mathrm{trop}}$ is a branched cover of degree $C_{g/2}$ equipped with natural determinantal multiplicities. We compute this degree by showing that on caterpillars of loops the morphisms are in bijection with ballot sequences, and we establish its global invariance across $\mathcal{M}_{g}^{\mathrm{trop}}$ via a tropical balancing condition across codimension-$1$ walls. Via deformation and path lifting, this yields an effective method to construct Catalan-many gonality-witnessing maps for any generic metric graph, establishing that the tree gonality of any genus-$g$ metric graph is at most $\lceil g/2 \rceil + 1$.
Permutation Representations on Cohomology of Toric Varieties
Let $G$ be a finite group acting properly by lattice automorphisms on a complete simplicial fan $Σ$. An open question due to Stanley asked whether the (ungraded) representation carried by the cohomology $H^*(X_Σ)$ of the associated toric variety $X_Σ$ is isomorphic to a permutation representation of $G$. We prove that Stanley's question has an affirmative answer for all smooth projective toric varieties without the properness assumption on the action. The proof is inspired by toric mirror symmetry.
A hereditary theorem for rigid and pseudorigid components of Lusztig's nilpotent varieties in type $A$
For irreducible components $C_σ$ of Lusztig's nilpotent varieties of type $A$ with graded dimension $(1,2,\dots,n,n-1,\dots,1)$ arising from permutations $σ\in S_n$, we characterize the property that $C_σ\oplus C_σ$ is an irreducible component combinatorially in terms of $σ$. The permutations that occur, which we call \emph{pseudosmooth}, are described by a recursion on direct sums and deleting suitable corners, whose terminal cases are the permutations obtained from \[ 3412,\quad 4231,\quad 35142,\quad 42513,\quad 45312,\quad 426153,\quad 463152,\quad 526413 \] by inflating the entries into consecutive decreasing blocks. The main new input is a hereditary property valid for decompositions of multisegments with disjoint extreme points.
The Weighted Walks in Quadrant with Finite Groups: an Algebro-Geometric Approach
We classify weighted small-step lattice walks in the quadrant whose associated birational group is finite. Using an algebro-geometric description of the kernel curves and Cayley-type finite-order conditions, we relate the group $G_W$ of a walk to the family of groups $Γ_t$ acting on its kernel curves. Together with the uniform upper bound on the order of $G_W$, this allows us to analyse all possible finite orders. We obtain explicit necessary and sufficient conditions for the group to have order 4, 6, 8, or 10, and prove that no weighted walk in the quadrant has a group of order 12. This yields a complete classification of weighted quadrant walks with finite groups.
Airy limit for the Jack process and topological expansion
For every $β>0$, we establish multi-time soft-edge moment convergence for the Jack--Plancherel process, a discrete $β$-analogue of Dyson Brownian motion. The limiting moments admit an absolutely convergent expansion in terms of nonnegative Brownian bridges decorated by pairs of equal and opposite jumps. At equal times, we identify this limit with the joint Laplace statistics of the Airy$_β$ process for $β\geq1$. The same Brownian expansion yields an asymptotic $β$-topological expansion of the marginal $b$-conjecture and, at $β=2$, an explicit nonnegative formula for the Witten--Kontsevich intersection numbers.
A note on bounded ratios
We prove that the set of bounded ratios $\BR(X)$ on a semialgebraic set $X\subset\R^n_{>0}$ is the convex cone of linear forms that are nonnegative on the tropicalization $\trop(X)$. In particular, it is a rational polyhedral convex cone. For $X$ the set of Lorentzian polynomials with fixed M-convex support, it is the dual to the set of M-convex functions. We record an explicit counterexample to a conjecture of Huang--Huh--Soskin--Wang on the bounded ratios on Lorentzian polynomials. The bounded ratio in the counterexample corresponds to the non-hypermetric clique-web facet $\mathrm{CW}^1_7(1,1,1,1,1,-1,-1)$ of the cut cone on seven vertices.
An obstruction to the maximal singularity of the Hilbert scheme of points on threefolds
We prove a necessary condition conjecture ([27, Conjecture B]) for the maximal singularity of the Hilbert scheme of points in 3D for a large class of degrees, which in particular implies the 1978 Briançon-Iarrobino Conjecture for a tetrahedral degree, and vastly generalises the result in [19]. The novelty lies in introducing a new upper bound on the dimensions of the tangent spaces of the claimed non-maximally singular ideals, constructing canonical ideals that satisfy the claimed maximal singularity condition, providing a lower bound on the dimension of their tangent spaces, and finally comparing the two cases.
Log-concavity and unimodality of Hodge numbers of Hilbert schemes of points over a surface
Let \(S\) be a smooth projective complex surface with irregularity \(q=h^{1,0}(S)\) and geometric genus \(g=h^{2,0}(S)\), and let \(S^{[n]}\) denote its Hilbert scheme of \(n\) points. We prove that, for every \(n\ge0\), the sequence \[ \left(h^{p,0}\bigl(S^{[n]}\bigr)\right)_{p=0}^{2n} \] is log-concave if and only if \(g\le\binom{q+1}{2}\). Moreover, log-concavity of all these sequences is already equivalent to log-concavity of the sequence for \(n=2\). We also prove that these sequences are unimodal for every \(n\ge0\) if and only if \(q\ge1\) or \(g=0\), and that this condition is already detected by the sequence for \(n=1\).
Artin-Schreier geproci configurations in projective spaces of arbitrary dimension
We construct finite geproci sets in every projective dimension and in every positive characteristic by introducing $\mathbb{F}_N$-Artin-Schreier configurations. In $\mathbb{P}^3$, we characterize exactly when such configurations are geproci: an $\mathbb{F}_N$-Artin-Schreier configuration on $q$ lines spanning $\mathbb{P}^3$ is $(q,N)$-geproci if and only if $q\leq N$. We then develop a lifting construction which produces geproci sets in $\mathbb{P}^n$ for every $n\geq 3$.
Nef Cones of Hilbert Schemes of Orthogonal Grassmannians
We show the number of connected components of the Hilbert scheme of orthogonal Grassmannians under certain condition, and use this result to describe the geometry of the Hilbert scheme. Subsequently, we determine the Nef cone of the Hilbert scheme by identifying curves dual to the generators of its Neron-Severi group. Our results generalize those of ordinary Grassmannians by Seong, and our approach adapts his proof technique alongside relevant Schubert calculus.
Most $(0,1)$-polytopes are not normal
We prove that the proportion of $0/1$-equivalence classes of $d$-dimensional $(0,1)$-polytopes that are normal tends to zero at least at a double exponential rate as $d\to\infty$. As a consequence, the same holds for any of the following classes given by the type of triangulation possible: (a) quadratic, (b) flag unimodular, (c) regular unimodular, or (d) unimodular, among others.
We classify the $0/1$-equivalence classes of $d$-dimensional $(0,1)$-polytopes for $d\leq5$ according to whether they admit a unimodular, flag unimodular, or quadratic triangulation. In dimension five, exactly $175$ out of $1{,}226{,}525$ classes have a flag unimodular triangulation, but no quadratic triangulation. Among them, there are polytopes whose toric rings are not Koszul; thus, we find the first polytopes that have a flag unimodular triangulation, but whose toric ring is not Koszul. In contrast with the matroid case, we exhibit a delta-matroid polytope that is not normal.
Singularities of star cluster algebras
We introduce the class of star cluster algebras and classify their singularities. Then we focus on the combinatorial structure of the desingularization by determining the number of irreducible centers that are blown up.
Resultant of an equivariant polynomial system with respect to a direct product of $r$ symmetric groups
In this paper we study the resultant of systems of homogeneous multivariate polynomials which are equivariant under the action of a direct product of symmetric groups. We first treat, in detail, the case of a product of two symmetric groups, and establish a decomposition formula for the resultant of such systems. We then show that this decomposition, together with the underlying combinatorics, extends to an arbitrary (finite) direct product of $r$ symmetric groups. Thanks to these decomposition formulas, we prove that the discriminant of a multivariate homogeneous polynomial invariant under a direct product of $r$ symmetric groups splits into a product of resultants of smaller size that are easier to compute.
Subleading Collinear Limits of Yang-Mills Amplitudes from Gravity
We show that the subleading collinear sector of Yang-Mills (YM) amplitudes is controlled by ordinary Einstein-Yang-Mills (EYM) amplitudes and their higher-derivative corrections. The complete set of strict subleading collinear limits associated with an equal-helicity collinear pair can be extracted from open-closed string disk amplitudes. The latter generate $\frac12 (n-3)!$ BCJ-like relations with non-linear kinematic coefficients, reducing the $(n-3)!$ collinear data to a basis of dimension $\frac12 (n-3)!$. This reduced basis can be represented by gravitational amplitudes in EYM theories and by their higher-derivative open-string corrections. At multiplicity $n$ this gravitational basis consists of the $(n-4)!$ independent EYM subamplitudes together with $\frac12 (n-5)(n-4)!$ higher-order corrections involving one graviton and $n-2$ gluons. The resulting decomposition is governed by unsigned Stirling numbers of the first kind: the ordinary EYM amplitudes correspond to the sector $\left[{n-3\atop 1}\right]$, the higher-order BCJ-like relations to even sectors $\left[{n-3\atop 2j}\right]$, and the higher-derivative EYM corrections to odd sectors $\left[{n-3\atop 2j+1}\right]$ with $j\geq 1$.
Compactification of $\operatorname{SL}(3,\mathbb{C})$-Character Varieties of Surfaces via Skein Algebras
We investigate the filtration structure of the skein algebra induced by the (quantum) trace map. Utilizing the structure, we prove that relative $\operatorname{SL}(3, \mathbb{C})$ character varieties of punctured surfaces admit log Calabi-Yau compactifications and prove the (weak) geometric P=W conjecture.
