Unimodality of Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomials of sparse paving matroids
We prove that the Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomial of a loopless sparse paving matroid is unimodal. When the rank is at least five and the corank is positive, we show that the coefficient sequence is strictly unimodal except for three explicitly determined parameter triples, each giving two equal maximal coefficients. We also determine the modes and classify the degenerate loopless sparse paving matroids of positive rank and corank.

The last distribution-equivalence class of mesh patterns of length 2
We prove the remaining conjectural distribution-equivalence of mesh patterns of length 2 from 2019. This completes the classification of distribution-equivalence and Wilf-equivalence classes for mesh patterns of length 2. Consequently the numbers of such classes are 105 and 46, respectively. We approach this by constructing a marked occurrence bijection, in the spirit of the cluster method for consecutive patterns.

On a question about pattern avoidance of cyclic permutations
Recently, Archer et al.\ studied cyclic permutations that avoid the decreasing pattern $δ_k=k(k-1)\cdots21$ in one-line notation and avoid another pattern $τ$ of length $4$ in all their cycle forms. There are three cases in total to consider, namely, $τ=1324, 1342$ and $1432$. They determined two of them, leaving the case $τ=1432$ as an open question. In this paper, we resolve this case by deriving explicit formulas based on an analysis of the structure of cycle forms and an application of Dilworth's theorem.

A proof of the only mode of a unimodal sequence
In study the generalized Jacobsthal and Jaco-Lucas polynomials, Sun introduced the interesting numerical triangle Jaco-Lucas sequence $\{JL_{n,k}\}_{n\geq k\geq0}$. In this paper, we proved this sequence is log-concave with the only mode by computer algebra.

On the log-concavity of $n$-th root of a sequence
Published • View Publication • BIB
In recent years, the log-concavity of $\{\sqrt[n]{S_n}\}_{n\geq 1}$ have been received a lot of attention. Very recently, Sun posed the following conjecture in his new book: the sequences $\{\sqrt[n]{a_n}\}_{n\geq 2}$ and $\{ \sqrt[n]{b_n}\}_{n\geq 1}$ are log-concave, where \[ a_n:= \frac{1}{n}\sum_{k=0}^{n-1} \frac{{n-1\choose k}^2{n+k\choose k}^2 }{4k^2-1} \] and \[ b_n:= \frac{1}{n^3}\sum_{k=0}^{n-1} (3k^2+3k+1){n-1\choose k}^2 {n+k\choose k}^2. \] In this paper, two methods, semi-automatic and analytic methods, are used to confirm Sun's conjecture. The semi-automatic method relies on a criterion on the log-concavity of $\{\sqrt[n]{S_n}\}_{n\geq 1}$ given by us and a mathematica package due to Hou and Zhang, while the analytic method relies on a result due to Xia.

Asymptotic $r$-log-convexity and P-recursive sequences
Published • View Publication • BIB
A sequence $\{ a_n \}_{n \ge 0}$ is said to be asymptotically $r$-log-convex if it is $r$-log-convex for $n$ sufficiently large. We present a criterion on the asymptotical $r$-log-convexity based on the asymptotic behavior of $a_n a_{n+2}/a_{n+1}^2$. As an application, we show that most P-recursive sequences are asymptotic $r$-log-convexity for any integer $r$ once they are log-convex. Moreover, for a concrete integer $r$, we present a systematic method to find the explicit integer $N$ such that a P-recursive sequence $\{a_n\}_{n \ge N}$ is $r$-log-convex. This enable us to prove the $r$-log-convexity of some combinatorial sequences.
