Series-parallel extensions and Ehrhart positivity
We prove Ehrhart positivity for series-parallel matroids and extend this result to all series-parallel extensions of multi-path matroids. A formula for the Ehrhart coefficients of series-parallel matroids is derived and used to prove strict positivity. An extension criterion based on weighted lattice-point counts is established. Recursive formulas for lattice-point counts are derived, and the recursion is shown to preserve a class of polynomials with nonnegative coefficients. We finally construct a connected transversal matroid with a negative Ehrhart coefficient, disproving the conjecture of Ferroni, Morales, and Panova that every connected matroid whose base polytope admits a subdivision into series-parallel matroid base polytopes is Ehrhart positive.

We decompose the indicator function of each $(a, b)$-Catalan matroid polytope as a weighted sum of indicator function of matroid polytopes that correspond to direct sums of uniform matroids. Catalan matroids lie in the interior of the convex hull of direct sums of uniform matroids in the polytope of all matroids introduced by Ferroni and Fink. Moreover, we describe combinatorially the coefficients of the convex combination of direct sums of uniform matroid corresponding to an $(a,b)$-Catalan matroid. In particular, this allows us to derive explicit formulas for arbitrary valuative invariants of $(a, b)$-Catalan matroids. Among other applications, we prove that $(a,b)$-Catalan matroids are Ehrhart positive, and we find formulas for the Kazhdan--Lusztig invariants of these matroids.

In this paper, we give a formula for the number of lattice points in the dilations of Schubert matroid polytopes. As applications, we obtain the Ehrhart polynomials of uniform and minimal matroids as special cases, and give a recursive formula for the Ehrhart polynomials of $(a,b)$-Catalan matroids. Ferroni showed that uniform and minimal matroids are Ehrhart positive. We show that all sparse paving Schubert matroids are Ehrhart positive and their Ehrhart polynomials are coefficient-wisely bounded by those of minimal and uniform matroids. This confirms a conjecture of Ferroni for the case of sparse paving Schubert matroids. Furthermore, we introduce notched rectangle matroids, which include minimal matroids, sparse paving Schubert matroids and panhandle matroids. We show that three subfamilies of notched rectangle matroids are Ehrhart positive, and conjecture that all notched rectangle matroids are Ehrhart positive.
