In this article, we investigate symmetric $(v,k,λ)$ designs $\mathcal{D}$ with $λ$ prime admitting flag-transitive and point-primitive automorphism groups $G$. We prove that if $G$ is an almost simple group with socle a finite simple group of Lie type, then $\mathcal{D}$ is either the point-hyperplane design of a projective space $\mathrm{PG}_{n-1}(q)$, or it is of parameters $(7,4,2)$, $(11,5,2)$, $(11,6,2)$ or $(45,12,3)$.

This paper is devoted to the classification of flag-transitive 2-(v,k,2) designs. We show that apart from two known symmetric 2-(16,6,2) designs, every flag-transitive subgroup G of the automorphism group of a nontrivial 2-(v,k,2) design is primitive of affine or almost simple type. Moreover, we classify the 2-(v,k,2) designs admitting a flag transitive almost simple group G with socle PSL(n,q) for some n \geq 3. Alongside this analysis, we give a construction for a flag-transitive 2-(v,k-1,k-2) design from a given flag-transitive 2-(v,k,1) design which induces a 2-transitive action on a line. Taking the design of points and lines of the projective space PG(n-1,3) as input to this construction yields a G-flag-transitive 2-(v,3,2) design where G has socle PSL(n,3) and v=(3^n-1)/2. Apart from these designs, our PSL-classification yields exactly one other example, namely the complement of the Fano plane.

We study to which extent the family of pairs of subspaces of a vector space related to each other via intersection properties determines the vector space. In another language, we study to which extent the family of vertices of the building of a projective space related to each other via several natural respective conditions involving the Weyl distance and incidence determines the building. These results can be seen as generalizations of and variations on the Fundamental Theorem of Projective Geometry.
Projective Embeddings of $\overline{M}_{0,n}$ and Parking Functions
The moduli space $\overline{M}_{0,n}$ may be embedded into the product of projective spaces $\mathbb{P}^1\times \mathbb{P}^2\times \cdots \times \mathbb{P}^{n-3}$, using a combination of the Kapranov map $|ψ_n|:\overline{M}_{0,n}\to \mathbb{P}^{n-3}$ and the forgetful maps $π_i:\overline{M}_{0,i}\to \overline{M}_{0,i-1}$. We give an explicit combinatorial formula for the multidegree of this embedding in terms of certain parking functions of height $n-3$. We use this combinatorial interpretation to show that the total degree of the embedding (thought of as the projectivization of its cone in $\mathbb{A}^2\times \mathbb{A}^3\cdots \times \mathbb{A}^{n-2}$) is equal to $(2(n-3)-1)!!=(2n-7)(2n-9) \cdots(5)(3)(1)$. As a consequence, we also obtain a new combinatorial interpretation for the odd double factorial.

For $d\in\{5,6\}$, we classify arrangements of $d + 2$ points in $\mathbf{RP}^{d-1}$ for which the minimum distance is as large as possible. To do so, we leverage ideas from matrix and convex analysis to determine the best possible codes that contain equiangular lines, and we introduce a notion of approximate Positivstellensatz certificates that promotes numerical approximations of Stengle's Positivstellensatz certificates to honest certificates.

In this article, we investigate $2$-$(v,k,λ)$ designs with $\gcd(r,λ)=1$ admitting flag-transitive automorphism groups $G$. We prove that if $G$ is an almost simple group, then such a design belongs to one of the seven infinite families of $2$-designs or it is one of the eleven well-known examples. We describe all these examples of designs. We, in particular, prove that if $\mathcal{D}$ is a symmetric $(v,k,λ)$ design with $\gcd(k,λ)=1$ admitting a flag-transitive automorphism group $G$, then either $G\leq AΓL_{1}(q)$ for some odd prime power $q$, or $\mathcal{D}$ is a projective space or the unique Hadamard design with parameters $(11,5,2)$.

A generalization of the scattering equations on $X(2,n)$, the configuration space of $n$ points on $\mathbb{CP}^1$, to higher dimensional projective spaces was recently introduced by Early, Guevara, Mizera, and one of the authors. One of the new features in $X(k,n)$ with $k>2$ is the presence of both regular and singular solutions in a soft limit. In this work we study soft limits in $X(3,7)$, $X(4,7)$, $X(3,8)$ and $X(5,8)$, find all singular solutions, and show their geometrical configurations. More explicitly, for $X(3,7)$ and $X(4,7)$ we find $180$ and $120$ singular solutions which when added to the known number of regular solutions both give rise to $1\, 272$ solutions as it is expected since $X(3,7)\sim X(4,7)$. Likewise, for $X(3,8)$ and $X(5,8)$ we find $59\, 640$ and $58\, 800$ singular solutions which when added to the regular solutions both give rise to $188\, 112$ solutions. We also propose a classification of all configurations that can support singular solutions for general $X(k,n)$ and comment on their contribution to soft expansions of generalized biadjoint amplitudes.
The Lattice Structure of Linear Subspace Codes
The projective space $\mathbb{P}_q(n)$, i.e. the set of all subspaces of the vector space $\mathbb{F}_q^n$, is a metric space endowed with the subspace distance metric. Braun, Etzion and Vardy argued that codes in a projective space are analogous to binary block codes in $\mathbb{F}_2^n$ using a framework of lattices. They defined linear codes in $\mathbb{P}_q(n)$ by mimicking key features of linear codes in the Hamming space $\mathbb{F}_2^n$. In this paper, we prove that a linear code in a projective space forms a sublattice of the corresponding projective lattice if and only if the code is closed under intersection. The sublattice thus formed is geometric distributive. We also present an application of this lattice-theoretic characterization.
A Leray model for the Orlik-Solomon algebra

We construct a combinatorial generalization of the Leray models for hyperplane arrangement complements. Given a matroid and some combinatorial blowup data, we give a presentation for a bigraded (commutative) differential-graded algebra. If the matroid is realizable over $\mathbb{C}$, this is the familiar Morgan model for a hyperplane arrangement complement, embedded in a blowup of projective space. In general, we obtain a cdga that interpolates between the Chow ring of a matroid and the Orlik-Solomon algebra. Our construction can also be expressed in terms of sheaves on combinatorial blowups of geometric lattices. As a key technical device, we construct a monomial basis via a Gröbner basis for the ideal of relations. Combining these ingredients, we show that our algebra is quasi-isomorphic to the classical Orlik-Solomon algebra of the matroid.

We construct a family of PL triangulations of the $d$-dimensional real projective space $\mathbb{R}P^d$ on $Θ((\frac{1+\sqrt{5}}{2})^{d+1})$ vertices for every $d\geq 1$. This improves a construction due to Kühnel on $2^{d+1}-1$ vertices.

We define two generalizations of the totally nonnegative Grassmannian and determine their topology in the case of real projective space. We find the spaces to be PL manifolds with boundary which are homotopy equivalent to another real projective space of smaller dimension. One generalization makes use of sign variation while the other uses boundary measurement. Spaces arising from boundary measurement are shown to admit Cohen-Macaulay triangulations.

Let $\mathrm{PG}(3,q)$ be the projective space of dimension three over the finite field with $q$ elements. Consider a twisted cubic in $\mathrm{PG}(3,q)$. The structure of the point-plane incidence matrix in $\mathrm{PG}(3,q)$ with respect to the orbits of points and planes under the action of the stabilizer group of the twisted cubic is described. This information is used to view generalized doubly-extended Reed-Solomon codes of codimension four as asymptotically optimal multiple covering codes.

This is an expository article detailing results concerning large arcs in finite projective spaces, which attempts to cover the most relevant results on arcs, simplifying and unifying proofs of known old and more recent theorems. The article is mostly self-contained and includes a proof of the most general form of Segre's lemma of tangents and a short proof of the MDS conjecture over prime fields based on this lemma.

The {\it linear representation} of a subset of a finite projective space is an incidence system of affine points and lines determined by the subset. In this paper we use character theory to show that the rank of the incidence matrix has a direct geometric interpretation in terms of certain hyperplanes. We consider the LDPC codes defined by taking the incidence matrix and its transpose as parity-check matrices, and in the former case prove a conjecture of Vandendriessche that the code is generated by words of minimum weight called plane words. In the latter case we compute the minimum weight in several cases and provide explicit constructions of minimum weight codewords.
Optimal measures for p-frame energies on spheres

We provide new answers about the placement of mass on spheres so as to minimize energies of pairwise interactions. We find optimal measures for the $p$-frame energies, i.e. energies with the kernel given by the absolute value of the inner product raised to a positive power $p$. Application of linear programming methods in the setting of projective spaces allows for describing the minimizing measures in full in several cases: we show optimality of tight designs and of the $600$-cell for several ranges of $p$ in different dimensions. Our methods apply to a much broader class of potential functions, those which are absolutely monotonic up to a particular order as functions of the cosine of the geodesic distance. In addition, a preliminary numerical study is presented which suggests optimality of several other highly symmetric configurations and weighted designs in low dimensions. In one case we improve the best known lower bounds on a minimal sized weighted design in $\mathbb{CP}^4$. All these results point to the discreteness of minimizing measures for the $p$-frame energy with $p$ not an even integer.

For any finite poset P we introduce a homogeneous space as a quotient of the general linear group with the incidence group of P. When P is a chain this quotient is a flag variety; for the trivial poset our construction gives a variety recently introduced in [20]. Moreover we provide decompositions for any set in a projective space, induced by the action of the incidence group of a suitable poset. In the classical cases of Grassmannians and flag varieties we recover, depending on the choice of the poset, the partition into Schubert cells and the matroid strata. Our general framework produces, for the homogeneous spaces corresponding to the trivial posets, a stratification by parking functions.

Let PG$(\mathbb{F}_q^v)$ be the $(v-1)$-dimensional projective space over $\mathbb{F}_q$ and let $Γ$ be a simple graph of order ${q^k-1\over q-1}$ for some $k$. A 2$-(v,Γ,λ)$ design over $\mathbb{F}_q$ is a collection $\cal B$ of graphs (\textit{blocks}) isomorphic to $Γ$ with the following properties: the vertex set of every block is a subspace of PG$(\mathbb{F}_q^v)$; every two distinct points of PG$(\mathbb{F}_q^v)$ are adjacent in exactly $λ$ blocks. This new definition covers, in particular, the well known concept of a 2$-(v,k,λ)$ design over $\mathbb{F}_q$ corresponding to the case that $Γ$ is complete.
In this work of a foundational nature we illustrate how difference methods allow us to get concrete non-trivial examples of $Γ$-decompositions over $\mathbb{F}_2$ or $\mathbb{F}_3$ for which $Γ$ is a cycle, a path, a prism, a generalized Petersen graph, or a Moebius ladder. In particular, we will discuss in detail the special and very hard case that $Γ$ is complete and $λ=1$, i.e., the Steiner 2-designs over a finite field. Also, we briefly touch the new topic of near resolvable 2-$(v,2,1)$ designs over $\mathbb{F}_q$.
This study has led us to some (probably new) collateral problems concerning difference sets. Supported by multiple examples, we conjecture the existence of infinite families of $Γ$-decompositions over a finite field that can be obtained by suitably labeling the vertices of $Γ$ with the elements of a Singer difference set.
A formula on Stirling numbers of the second kind and its application to the unstable $K$-theory of stunted complex projective spaces
A formula on Stirling numbers of the second kind $S(n, k)$ is proved. As a corollary, for odd $n$ and even $k$, it is shown that $k!S(n, k)$ is a positive multiple of the greatest common divisor of $j!S(n, j)$ for $k+1\leq j\leq n$. Also, as an application to algebraic topology, some isomorphisms of unstable $K^1$-groups of stunted complex projective spaces are deduced.

Let $C_{n-1}(n,q)$ be the code arising from the incidence of points and hyperplanes in the Desarguesian projective space PG($n,q$). Recently, Polverino and Zullo proved that within this code, all non-zero code words of weight at most $2q^{n-1}$ are scalar multiples of either the incidence vector of one hyperplane, or the difference of the incidence vectors of two distinct hyperplanes. We improve this result, proving that when $q>17$ and $q\notin\{25,27,29,31,32,49,121\}$, all code words of weight at most $(4q-\sqrt{8q}-\frac{33}{2})q^{n-2}$ are linear combinations of incidence vectors of hyperplanes through a fixed $(n-3)$-space. Depending on the omitted value for $q$, we can lower the bound on the weight of $c$ to obtain the same results.
Arcs and tensors
To an arc $\mathcal{A}$ of $\mathrm{PG}(k-1,q)$ of size $q+k-1-t$ we associate a tensor in $\langle ν_{k,t}(\mathcal{A})\rangle^{\otimes k-1}$, where $ν_{k,t}$ denotes the Veronese map of degree $t$ defined on $\mathrm{PG}(k-1,q)$. As a corollary we prove that for each arc $\mathcal{A}$ in $\mathrm{PG}(k-1,q)$ of size $q+k-1-t$, which is not contained in a hypersurface of degree $t$, there exists a polynomial $F(Y_1,\ldots,Y_{k-1})$ (in $k(k-1)$ variables) where $Y_j=(X_{j1},\ldots,X_{jk})$, which is homogeneous of degree $t$ in each of the $k$-tuples of variables $Y_j$, which upon evaluation at any $(k-2)$-subset $S$ of the arc $\mathcal{A}$ gives a form of degree $t$ on $\mathrm{PG}(k-1,q)$ whose zero locus is the tangent hypersurface of $\mathcal{A}$ at $S$, i.e. the union of the tangent hyperplanes of $\mathcal{A}$ at $S$. This generalises the equivalent result for planar arcs ($k=3$), proven in \cite{BaLa2018}, to arcs in projective spaces of arbitrary dimension. A slightly weaker result is obtained for arcs in $\mathrm{PG}(k-1,q)$ of size $q+k-1-t$ which are contained in a hypersurface of degree $t$. We also include a new proof of the Segre-Blokhuis-Bruen-Thas hypersurface associated to an arc of hyperplanes in $\mathrm{PG}(k-1,q)$.
