Period collapse of Markov triangles
Cristofaro-Gardiner and Kleinman showed the complete period collapse of the Ehrhart quasipolynomial of Fibonacci triangles and their irrational limits, by studying the Fourier-Dedekind sums involved in the Ehrhart function of right-angled rational triangles. We generalize this result using integral affine geometrical methods to all Markov triangles, as defined by Vianna. In particular, we show new occurrences of strong period collapse, namely by constructing for each Markov number $p$ a two-sided sequence of rational triangles and two irrational limits with quasipolynomial Ehrhart function of period $p$.
Characteristic quasi-polynomials of deletions of Shi arrangements of type C and type D
Characteristic quasi-polynomials enumerate the number of points in the complement of hyperplane arrangements modulo positive integers. In this paper, we compute the characteristic quasi-polynomials of the restrictions of the Shi arrangements of type C and type D by one given hyperplane, respectively. The case of type C is established by extending the method developed in our previous work on type B (\cite{HN2024}), while the case of type D is deduced through a direct connection with the results on type B. As a corollary, we determine whether period collapse occurs in the characteristic quasi-polynomials of the deletions of the Shi arrangements of type C and type D.
Characteristic quasi-polynomials of deletions of Shi arrangements of type B and their period collapse
Characteristic quasi-polynomials are the enumerative functions counting the number of elements in the complement of hyperplane arrangements modulo positive integers. A notable phenomenon in this context is period collapse, where the quasi-polynomial reduces to a polynomial or has a smaller period than the lcm period. In this paper, we compute the characteristic quasi-polynomials of the restriction of the Shi arrangement of type B by one given hyperplane. As a corollary, we completely determine whether period collapse occurs in the characteristic quasi-polynomial of the deletion of the Shi arrangement of type B. This implies the solution for the conjecture posed by Higashitani, Tran and Yoshinaga in this case.
Restricted Chain-Order Polytopes via Combinatorial Mutations

We study restricted chain-order polytopes associated to Young diagrams using combinatorial mutations. These polytopes are obtained by intersecting chain-order polytopes with certain hyperplanes. The family of chain-order polytopes associated to a poset interpolate between the order and chain polytopes of the poset. Each such polytope retains properties of the order and chain polytope; for example its Ehrhart polynomial. For a fixed Young diagram, we show that all restricted chain-order polytopes are related by a sequence of combinatorial mutations. Since the property of giving rise to the period collapse phenomenon is invariant under combinatorial mutations, we provide a large class of rational polytopes that give rise to period collapse.

We study piecewise-linear and birational lifts of Schützenberger promotion, evacuation, and the RSK correspondence defined in terms of toggles. Using this perspective, we prove that certain chain statistics in rectangles shift predictably under the action of these maps. We then use this to construct piecewise-linear and birational versions of Rubey's bijections between fillings of equivalent moon polyominoes that preserve these chain statistics, and we show that these maps form a commuting diagram. We also discuss how these results imply Ehrhart equivalence and Ehrhart quasi-polynomial period collapse of certain analogues of chain polytopes for moon polyominoes.

We show that the polytopes obtained from the Birkhoff polytope by imposing additional inequalities restricting the "longest increasing subsequence" have Ehrhart quasi-polynomials which are honest polynomials, even though they are just rational polytopes in general. We do this by defining a continuous, piecewise-linear bijection to a certain Gelfand-Tsetlin polytope. This bijection is not an integral equivalence but it respects lattice points in the appropriate way to imply that the two polytopes have the same Ehrhart (quasi-)polynomials. In fact, the bijection is essentially the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence.
Period collapse in characteristic quasi-polynomials of hyperplane arrangements

Given an integral hyperplane arrangement, Kamiya-Takemura-Terao (2008 & 2011) introduced the notion of characteristic quasi-polynomial, which enumerates the cardinality of the complement of the arrangement modulo a positive integer. The most popular candidate for period of the characteristic quasi-polynomials is the lcm period. In this paper, we initiate a study of period collapse in characteristic quasi-polynomials stemming from the concept of period collapse in the theory of Ehrhart quasi-polynomials. We say that period collapse occurs in a characteristic quasi-polynomial when the minimum period is strictly less than the lcm period. Our first main result is that in the non-central case, with regard to period collapse anything is possible: period collapse occurs in any dimension $\ge 1$, occurs for any value of the lcm period $\ge 2$, and the minimum period when it is not the lcm period can be any proper divisor of the lcm period. Our second main result states that in the central case, however, no period collapse is possible in any dimension, that is, the lcm period is always the minimum period.
On the period collapse of a family of Ehrhart quasi-polynomials
A graph whose nodes have degree 1 or 3 is called a $\{1,3\}$-graph. Liu and Osserman associated a polytope to each $\{1,3\}$-graph and studied the Ehrhart quasi-polynomials of these polytopes. They showed that the vertices of these polytopes have coordinates in the set $\{0,\frac14,\frac12,1\}$, which implies that the period of their Ehrhart quasi-polynomials is either 1, 2, or 4. We show that the period of the Ehrhart quasi-polynomial of these polytopes is at most 2 if the graph is a tree or a cubic graph, and it is equal to 4 otherwise.
In the process of proving this theorem, several interesting combinatorial and geometric properties of these polytopes were uncovered, arising from the structure of their associated graphs. The tools developed here may find other applications in the study of Ehrhart quasi-polynomials and enumeration problems for other polytopes that arise from graphs. Additionally, we have identified some interesting connections with triangulations of 3-manifolds.
New irrational polygons with Ehrhart-theoretic period collapse
In a recent paper, Cristofaro-Gardiner--Li--Stanley [CGLS15] constructed examples of irrational triangles whose Ehrhart functions (i.e. lattice-point count) are polynomials when restricted to positive integer dilation factors. This is very surprising because the Ehrhart functions of rational polygons are usually only quasi-polynomials. We demonstrate that most of their triangles can also be obtained by a simple cut-and-paste procedure that allows us to build new examples with more sides. Our examples might potentially have applications in the theory of symplectic embeddings.
New examples of period collapse
"Period collapse" refers to any situation where the period of the Ehrhart function of a polytope is less than the denominator of that polytope. We study several interesting situations where this occurs, primarily involving triangles. For example: 1) we determine exactly when the Ehrhart function of a right triangle with legs on the axes and slant edge with irrational slope is a polynomial; 2) we find triangles with periods given by any even-index k-Fibonacci number, and larger denominators; 3) we construct several higher dimensional examples. Several related issues are also discussed, including connections with symplectic geometry.

McDuff and Schlenk determined when a four-dimensional ellipsoid can be symplectically embedded into a ball, and found that part of the answer is given by an infinite "Fibonacci staircase." Similarly, Frenkel and Müller determined when a four-dimensional ellipsoid can be symplectically embedded into the ellipsoid E(1,2) and found that part of the answer is given by a "Pell staircase." ECH capacities give an obstruction to symplectically embedding one four-dimensional ellipsoid into another, and McDuff showed that this obstruction is sharp. We use this result to give new proofs of the staircases of McDuff-Schlenk and Frenkel-Müller, and we prove that another infinite staircase arises for embeddings into the ellipsoid E(1,3/2). Our proofs relate these staircases to a combinatorial phenomenon of independent interest called "period collapse" of the Ehrhart quasipolynomial.
In the appendix, we use McDuff's theorem to show that for a >= 6, the only obstruction to embedding an ellipsoid E(1,a) into a scaling of E(1,3/2) is the volume, and we also give new proofs of similar results for embeddings into scalings of E(1,1) and E(1,2).
