Enumerations and Bijections for Stanley Polyominoes
Stanley polyominoes are a subclass of parallelogram polyominoes in which each row begins strictly to the right of the beginning of the previous row and ends strictly to the right of the end of the previous row. In this paper, we derive generating functions for Stanley polyominoes based on the numbers of columns and rows, area, semiperimeter, and numbers of interior points and edges. We also establish combinatorial connections through bijections with other combinatorial structures such as Dyck paths, skew Ferrer diagrams, and peakless Motzkin paths. As a byproduct, we answer the open question of finding a bijection between parallelogram polyominoes of area $n$ and coin fountains with $n$ coins in the even-numbered rows and $n-k$ coins in the odd-numbered rows.

Tiered tree, Parking function and Postnikov-Shapiro algebra
Tiered trees were introduced as a combinatorial object for counting absolutely indecomposable representation of certain quivers and torus orbit of certain homogeneous variety. In this paper, we define a bijection between the set of parallelogram polyominoes and graphical parking functions. Moreover, we defined the space $\mathcal{S}_{G}$ for complete tiered graphs and described tiered graphs in terms of Whitney's operations.

A bijection between rooted planar maps and generalized fighting fish
Published • View Publication • BIB
The class of fighting fish is a recently introduced model of branching surfaces generalizing parallelogram polyominoes. We can alternatively see them as gluings of cells, walks on the square lattice confined to the quadrant or shuffle of Dyck words. With these different points of view, we introduce a natural extension of fighting fish that we call \emph{generalized fighting fish}. We show that generalized fighting fish are exactly the Mullin codes of rooted planar maps endowed with their unique rightmost depth-first search spanning tree, also known as Lehman-Lenormand code. In particular, this correspondence gives a bijection between fighting fish and nonseparable rooted planar maps, enriching the garden of bijections between classes of objects enumerated by the sequence $\frac{2}{(n+1)(2n+1)} \binom{3n}{n}$.
Hilbert series of Parallelogram Polyominoes
Published • View Publication • BIB
We present a conjecture about the reduced Hilbert series of the coordinate ring of a simple polyomino in terms of particular arrangements of non-attacking rooks that can be placed on the polyomino. By using a computational approach, we prove that the above conjecture holds for all simple polyominoes up to rank $11$. In addition, we prove that the conjecture holds true for the class of parallelogram polyominoes, by looking at those as simple planar distributive lattices. Finally, we give a combinatorial interpretation of the Gorensteinnes of parallelogram polyominoes.

Three families of $q$-Lommel polynomials
Three $q$-versions of Lommel polynomials are studied. Included are explicit representations, recurrences, continued fractions, and connections to associated Askey--Wilson polynomials. Combinatorial results are emphasized, including a general theorem when $R_I$ moments coincide with orthogonal polynomial moments. The combinatorial results use weighted Motzkin paths, Schröder paths, and parallelogram polyominoes.
Enumeration of parallelogram polycubes
Published • View Publication • BIB
In this paper, we enumerate parallelogram polycubes according to several parameters. After establishing a relation between Multiple Zeta Function and the Dirichlet generating function of parallelogram polyominoes, we generalize it to the case of parallelogram polycubes. We also give an explicit formula and an ordinary generating function of parallelogram polycubes according to the width, length and depth, by characterizing its projections. Then, these results are generalized to polyhypercubes.

Bounded Dyck paths, bounded alternating sequences, orthogonal polynomials, and reciprocity
Published in Europ. J. Combin. 121 (2024), 103840 • View Publication • BIB
The theme of this article is a "reciprocity" between bounded up-down paths and bounded alternating sequences. Roughly speaking, this ``reciprocity" manifests itself by the fact that the extension of the sequence of numbers of paths of length $n$, consisting of diagonal up- and down-steps and being confined to a strip of bounded width, to negative $n$ produces numbers of alternating sequences of integers that are bounded from below and from above. We show that this reciprocity extends to families of non-intersecting bounded up-down paths and certain arrays of alternating sequences which we call alternating tableaux. We provide as well weighted versions of these results. Our proofs are based on Viennot's theory of heaps of pieces and on the combinatorics of non-intersecting lattice paths. An unexpected application leads to a refinement of a result of Bousquet-Mélou and Viennot on the width-height-area generating function of parallelogram polyominoes. Finally, we exhibit the relation of the arising alternating tableaux to plane partitions of strip shapes.
Decorated Dyck paths, polyominoes, and the Delta conjecture
Published • View Publication • BIB
We discuss the combinatorics of decorated Dyck paths and decorated parallelogram polyominoes, extending to the decorated case the main results of both [Haglund 2004] and [Aval et al. 2014]. This settles in particular the cases $\langle\cdot,e_{n-d}h_d\rangle$ and $\langle\cdot,h_{n-d}h_d\rangle$ of the Delta conjecture of Haglund, Remmel and Wilson (2018). Along the way, we introduce some new statistics, formulate some new conjectures, prove some new identities of symmetric functions, and answer a few open problems in the literature (e.g. from [Haglund et al. 2018], [Zabrocki 2016], [Aval et al. 2015]). The main technical tool is a new identity in the theory of Macdonald polynomials that extends a theorem of Haglund in [Haglund 2004]. This is an edited merge of arXiv:1712.08787 and arXiv:1709.08736

Parallelogram polyominoes and rectangular EW-tableaux: correspondences through the sandpile model
Published • View Publication • BIB
This paper establishes connections between EW-tableaux and parallelogram polyominoes by using recent research regarding the sandpile model on the complete bipartite graph. This paper presents and proves a direct bijection between rectangular EW-tableaux and labelled ribbon parallelogram polyominoes. The significance of this is that allows one to move between these objects without the need for `recurrent configurations', the central object which previously tied this work together. It introduces the notion of a marked rectangular EW-tableaux that exactly encode all recurrent configurations of the sandpile model on the complete bipartite graph. This shows how non-cornersupport entries that featured in previous work can be utilized in a simple but important way in relation to EW-tableaux. It lifts the bijection between rectangular EW-tableaux and labelled ribbon parallelogram polyominoes to a bijection between marked rectangular EW-tableaux and labelled parallelogram polyominoes. This bijection helps us to fully understand the aspects of these very different objects that are, in a sense, different sides of the same coin.

Generalized Path Pairs and Fuss-Catalan Triangles
Path pairs are a modification of parallelogram polyominoes that provide yet another combinatorial interpretation of the Catalan numbers. More generally, the number of path pairs of length $n$ and distance $δ$ corresponds to the $(n-1,δ-1)$ entry of Shapiro's so-called Catalan triangle. In this paper, we widen the notion of path pairs $(γ_1,γ_2)$ to the situation where $γ_1$ and $γ_2$ may have different lengths, and then enforce divisibility conditions on runs of vertical steps in $γ_2$. This creates a two-parameter family of integer triangles that generalize the Catalan triangle and qualify as proper Riordan arrays for many choices of parameters. In particular, we use generalized path pairs to provide a new combinatorial interpretation for all entries in every proper Riordan array $\mathcal{R}(d(t),h(t))$ of the form $d(t) = C_k(t)^i$, $h(t) = t \kern+1pt C_k(t)^k$, where $1 \leq i \leq k$ and $C_k(t)$ is the generating function for some sequence of Fuss-Catalan numbers (some $k \geq 2$). Closed formulas are then provided for the number of generalized path pairs across an even broader range of parameters, as well as for the number of weak path pairs with a fixed number of non-initial intersections.
The Schröder case of the generalized Delta conjecture
Published • View Publication • BIB
We prove the Schröder case, i.e. the case $\langle \cdot,e_{n-d}h_d \rangle$, of the conjecture of Haglund, Remmel and Wilson (Haglund et al. 2018) for $Δ_{h_m}Δ_{e_{n-k-1}}'e_n$ in terms of decorated partially labelled Dyck paths, which we call \emph{generalized Delta conjecture}. This result extends the Schröder case of the Delta conjecture proved in (D'Adderio, Vanden Wyngaerd 2017), which in turn generalized the $q,t$-Schröder of Haglund (Haglund 2004). The proof gives a recursion for these polynomials that extends the ones known for the aforementioned special cases. Also, we give another combinatorial interpretation of the same polynomial in terms of a new bounce statistic. Moreover, we give two more interpretations of the same polynomial in terms of doubly decorated parallelogram polyominoes, extending some of the results in (D'Adderio, Iraci 2017), which in turn extended results in (Aval et al. 2014). Also, we provide combinatorial bijections explaining some of the equivalences among these interpretations.

Parallelogram polyominoes, partially labelled Dyck paths, and the Delta conjecture (FULL VERSION)
We introduce area, bounce and dinv statistics on decorated parallelogram polyominoes, and prove that some of their q,t-enumerators match $\langle Δ_{h_m} e_{n+1},s_{k+1,1^{n-k}}\rangle$, extending in this way the work in (Aval et al. 2014). Also, we provide a bijective connection between decorated parallelogram polyominoes and decorated labelled Dyck paths, which allows us to prove the combinatorial interpretation of the coefficient $\langle Δ_{e_{m+n-k-1}}'e_{m+n},h_m h_n\rangle$ predicted by the Delta conjecture in (Haglund et al. 2015). Finally, we define a statistic pmaj on partially labelled Dyck paths, which provides another conjectural combinatorial interpretation of $Δ_{h_{\ell}}Δ_{e_{n-k-1}}'e_n$, cf. (Haglund et al. 2015). This is the full version of (D'Adderio, Iraci 2017) arXiv:1711.03923.

321-avoiding affine permutations and their many heaps
Published • View Publication • BIB
We study $321$-avoiding affine permutations, and prove a formula for their enumeration with respect to the inversion number by using a combinatorial approach. This is done in two different ways, both related to Viennot's theory of heaps. First, we encode these permutations using certain heaps of monomers and dimers. This method specializes to the case of affine involutions. For the second proof, we introduce periodic parallelogram polyominoes, which are new combinatorial objects of independent interest. We enumerate them by extending the approach of Bousquet-Mélou and Viennot used for classical parallelogram polyominoes. We finally establish a connection between these new objects and $321$-avoiding affine permutations.
Generating series of Periodic Parallelogram polyominoes
The aim of this work is the study of the class of periodic parallelogram polyominoes, and two of its variantes. These objets are related to 321-avoiding affine permutations. We first provide a bijection with the set of triangles under Dyck paths. We then prove the ultimate periodicity of the generating series of our objects, and introduced a notion of primitive polyominoes, which we enumerate. We conclude by an asymptotic analysis.

Periodic Parallelogram Polyominoes
Published • View Publication • BIB
A periodic parallelogram polyomino is a parallelogram polyomino such that we glue the first and the last column. In this work we extend a bijection between ordered trees and parallelogram polyominoes in order to compute the generating function of periodic parallelogram polyominoes with respect to the height, the width and the intrinsic thickness, a new statistic unrelated to the existing statistics on parallelogram polyominoes. Moreover we define a rotation over periodic parallelogram polyominoes, which induces a partitioning in equivalent classes called strips. We also compute the generating function of strips using the theory of Pólya.
Slicings of parallelogram polyominoes: Catalan, Schröder, Baxter, and other sequences
Published • View Publication • BIB
We provide a new succession rule (i.e. generating tree) associated with Schröder numbers, that interpolates between the known succession rules for Catalan and Baxter numbers. We define Schröder and Baxter generalizations of parallelogram polyominoes, called slicings, which grow according to these succession rules. In passing, we also exhibit Schröder subclasses of Baxter classes, namely a Schröder subset of triples of non-intersecting lattice paths, a new Schröder subset of Baxter permutations, and a new Schröder subset of mosaic floorplans. Finally, we define two families of subclasses of Baxter slicings: the $m$-skinny slicings and the $m$-row-restricted slicings, for $m \in \mathbb{N}$. Using functional equations and the kernel method, their generating functions are computed in some special cases, and we conjecture that they are algebraic for any $m$.
The number of directed k-convex polyominoes
Published • View Publication • BIB
We present a new method to obtain the generating functions for directed convex polyominoes according to several different statistics including: width, height, size of last column/row and number of corners. This method can be used to study different families of directed convex polyominoes: symmetric polyominoes, parallelogram polyominoes. In this paper, we apply our method to determine the generating function for directed k-convex polyominoes. We show it is a rational function and we study its asymptotic behavior.

Enumeration of polyominoes defined in terms of pattern avoidance or convexity constraints
In this thesis, we consider the problem of characterizing and enumerating sets of polyominoes described in terms of some constraints, defined either by convexity or by pattern containment. We are interested in a well known subclass of convex polyominoes, the k-convex polyominoes for which the enumeration according to the semi-perimeter is known only for k=1,2. We obtain, from a recursive decomposition, the generating function of the class of k-convex parallelogram polyominoes, which turns out to be rational. Noting that this generating function can be expressed in terms of the Fibonacci polynomials, we describe a bijection between the class of k-parallelogram polyominoes and the class of planted planar trees having height less than k+3. In the second part of the thesis we examine the notion of pattern avoidance, which has been extensively studied for permutations. We introduce the concept of pattern avoidance in the context of matrices, more precisely permutation matrices and polyomino matrices. We present definitions analogous to those given for permutations and in particular we define polyomino classes, i.e. sets downward closed with respect to the containment relation. So, the study of the old and new properties of the redefined sets of objects has not only become interesting, but it has also suggested the study of the associated poset. In both approaches our results can be used to treat open problems related to polyominoes as well as other combinatorial objects.
Combinatorics of non-ambiguous trees
Published • View Publication • BIB
This article investigates combinatorial properties of non-ambiguous trees. These objects we define may be seen either as binary trees drawn on a grid with some constraints, or as a subset of the tree-like tableaux previously defined by Aval, Boussicault and Nadeau. The enumeration of non-ambiguous trees satisfying some additional constraints allows us to give elegant combinatorial proofs of identities due to Carlitz, and to Ehrenborg and Steingrímsson. We also provide a hook formula to count the number of non-ambiguous trees with a given underlying tree. Finally, we use non-ambiguous trees to describe a very natural bijection between parallelogram polyominoes and binary trees.
